New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

injection 4, wk3 total loss so far 4.9kg and that's with antibiotics and steroids for chest infection this week, increased water intake again this week(most over last 2days).

still having to make myself eat a meal, no snacking at all, too

AirborneElephant · 26/07/2025 19:26

Thank you so much. It’s been fantastic for me, well beyond my expectations. I’ve always eaten reasonably well and done lots of exercise so I think I’m lucky to have a fairly high BMR plus I average around 650 active calories a day. My issue was huge portions plus cravings for snacks and alcohol, and a really bad emotional reaction when I’m denied. The Mounjaro has completely eliminated that. I’m still hungry, still enjoying food and having to use willpower, but I can eat smaller healthy meals and feel satisfied and I’m not upset I’m not allowed chocolate after.

i have lost 1kg of muscle mass according to my scales. Not ideal, but it’s almost impossible to lose weight without losing some muscle. I have the protein drinks on my lifting days and I’m eating low carb to get enough protein and veg so don’t think there’s much more I can do. I’ll focus on losing the weight first and then build the muscle back up.

I think at the start you lose a kg or so of “muscle”
but it’s actually water weight as eating less carbs. Just watch it going forward..

Placemarking.
Week 4: absolutely no weight loss, no suppression and no SE of any kind - no nausea or constipation which I previously had on Wegovy.
Am going to try and find the info about how to do 3.75 mg from a 5 mg pen as don't want to launch into 5 mg and be hit by the dreaded nausea full on again. Does anyone have the instructions handy for how to do 3.75 please

Kittkats · 27/07/2025 10:37

It’s 45 clicks from a 5mg pen.

CookieQueen1986 · 27/07/2025 13:12

Unfortunately the 2.5mg pen is not strong enough to get rid of the period chocolate cravings. However, it’s nowhere near as strong as it was pre-mounjaro when I could have easily smashed through a family sized bar of galaxy in one hit 😂

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 27/07/2025 13:44

I'm having a bad day. My period is due on Tuesday and I feel flabby. I had a tummy tuck in 2017 and I'm terrified/paranoid that I'm going to ruin it (my starting weight is about 1st over my surgery weight so not huge difference).

I can't stop checking my skin and feeling like it's so loose and flabby. But then I googled it and apparently subtle fluid retention can make skin in tummy feel flabby/loose.

Dug out photos of how my tummy looked before the tuck and realised that even if the skin is a little loose (my waist is 29.5 inches around my belly button) then it will still look a million times better than it did pre surgery).

Still feeling flabby but less teary.

🤣. Well, you can’t expect miracles,

Weigh in day for me yesterday at the end of week 2. I lost 2.5lb which I was very happy with, which takes me to 5.25lb in two weeks

I've ordered a new 2.5 pen ready for next month as I’d rather go v v slowly up. I know some people titrate up monthly but I’ve decided that slow and steady would be better for me.

Wow, well done! Such a great start

W2 jabbed last night. Not much suppression today, hoping it improves!

Doireallywanttodothis · 27/07/2025 22:31

W3D1 Third jab this evening. Was meant to be this morning but we’re abroad and were having a meal with family and didn’t want awkward questions over how little I could eat. Also took a sneaky opportunity to weight myself in their bedroom and I’ve now lost eight pounds - six last week, two this week. Given that I’ve been having a few drinks in the evening on holiday I’m very pleased with that. Onwards and downwards to all of us!

Doireallywanttodothis · 27/07/2025 22:32

Correction. Their bathroom - just saw the scales there and thought I’d have a look. I wasn’t sneaking into their bedroom to weight myself 😆.

WhereIsSpot · 27/07/2025 22:59

In the same boat as onegreyhair, week 4 and no suppression or SE. I am away at a fedtival camping this weekend so I'm half afraid to go up to 5mg. I don't think i could cope with having a dodgy stomach and portaloos the only option. The needles and syringes arrived so I'll do the golden dose of 2.5mg this week and move up to 5mg when I am close to home comforts.

Well done to all those losing. I'm nearly 4kg down. Slow as only 1.7kg over last 3 weeks, but it has been a boozy few weekends.

Definitely hold off on 5mg until you’re close to home. I had SEs like I did when I started and the nausea was worse (couldn’t even think of food without wanting to throw up).

daisydreamies · 28/07/2025 02:37

I’m on W1D5 of 5mg (W5D5 overall). The suppression is a lot stronger now. I went to a friend’s for a bbq yesterday and I only managed to eat a few things (I sadly had to decline a burger as I knew I wouldn’t finish it, I’m gutted).

I do have a NSV, my husband looked at me and said “you have lost weight” out of nowhere. Made me feel happy because something is working. I used to cry after several weeks of dieting and see that I’d only lost 1-2lbs, especially if my husband was dieting alongside me and he’d have lost a fair amount by that point. It’s so nice that something is working decently (it’s hard to stay on a diet when the weight loss is non-existent or extremely slow).

W4 D1 - injection day

SW 98.5 k
CW 94.1 k
GW 70 k

Injection day today, last one at 2.5 mg. Suppression is definitely much less than when I started so I'm going to risk going up as next week I can work from home if need be. That said, I'm over the moon with how easy this has been so far. Side effects have just been a day of burps and a couple of days of constipation.

The last time I got to this weight it was after 6 months of weighing literally everything I ate, down to the milk in my tea. I've decided not to weigh food this time as I want to teach myself good balance, so instead I'm focusing on the nutritional value of meals (the Voy app has made this easy tbf). I'm eating really well just in small portions, my family are enjoying the food as it's very much not what they perceive to be diet food. It's wins all around so feeling very positive!

Rallentanda · 28/07/2025 09:52

Found you all! I am now w3 d5 and this week have barely lost any weight. Had a couple of days where I thought I was thinking a lot about food, but then, actually I didn't act on it, or overeat at all. Bit of a dinner-with-friends, wine weekend and I was totally in control. I am very happy. No way would I have managed the weekend I've just had without putting 2kg straight back on and feeling shit about it. And it was no good saying 'just don't eat that much', if it was that easy none of us would be here.

Saying that I am 4.2kg (9.2 lbs) down from when I decided to do this at the beginning of July. I inexplicably 'lost' 1.3kg in the week before starting MJ. What was unachievable for me before was keeping weight loss steady and reliable. I've had a few days on MJ where I've gone up half a pound or so, but the trend is downwards, I can see it.

Starting to feel it too, in clothes that feel like they fit a little better. I'm doing weights as well, which is changing my body shape a bit, especially round my middle. Highly recommend that, it feels great. (I lift heavy for me, but that is not saying a lot!)

Radioundermypillow · 28/07/2025 10:02

Can anyone recommend a simple, but effective, at home dumbells workout for a 58 year old beginner (actually lifted a lot 5 years ago) but injury and age put a stop to it.

I have asked ChatGPT to create a beginners and progressive programme for me (I used to do some lifting before so I know the theory - just need to get back into it - I would worry about injuries if you didn't mention doing it previously)

Yes. But start with lighter weights?

The sculpted vegan is better for beginners not sure what can be accessed for free.

W5 d1

sw - 13st 9
cw - 12st 7
gw - 11st ?

No side effects really and still enough suppression to be able to make good choices. I've stopped calorie counting and just eat sensible - lots of home cooked chicken and salad and protein thins.

I was due to start my second pen today (2.5 again as is going fine) and thought I'd see if I could just twist it a bit harder and voila - shot number five now in my steadily decreasing belly :)

Hang in there folks - you're all superstars and every day is a chance to move forwards. x

Another 1.5lb off this week. How is everyone else doing weight wise?
Hoping to get 2lb off to make the first stone but we do have a couple of days away.

Stayed on 2.5mg using 30 clicks from a 5mg pen as don't want any nasty SE whilst I am away.

CleanShirt · 28/07/2025 13:27

Hello! Can I join?

First 2.5 jab 24 hours ago, starting weight 93.4kg.

I didn't think I'd feel the appetite suppression this quickly but I've just had to force myself to eat half a salad (prioritised the chicken).

I've had a bad belly today and also feeling really sicky - please assure me it passes!
