New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

im type 2 aswell, my bloods have changed drastically im no longer injecting 4 times a day long and fast acting also my hab1c has dropped from 90 to 60 within the month of starting, it's made the world of difference im a chest infections this week so bloods really high using sick day rules, so back to jabbing abit more this week, cant wait tomorrow is first day off antibiotics and steroids x

DabOfPistachio · 25/07/2025 17:46

Just checking in and marking my place. I started first jabs on Wed night. I was a bit nervous about side effects but don't think I've had any.
I haven't been as hungry and had a very odd moment of going to the supermarket not having had lunch and picking out healthy foods without craving the junk.
I'm also drinking far more water instead of snacking.
I am questioning myself and wondering if its the placebo affect but I don't think so. Time will tell!

VordLoldemort · 25/07/2025 19:33

Checking in and place marking, didn’t realise we was on thread 2 already!
im on w4 d5, I’ve been much hungrier this week and thought it possibly wasn’t working as well, but period arrived today which makes me ravenous in the days before anyway. So I think still working and have eaten what my body has craved, but still been quite good.

speakingofart · 25/07/2025 20:07

Suffering today - took my first 5mg dose yesterday morning and have had really bad rolling nausea all day. Really hoping I continue to lose weight so it’s at least worth it but scales have stood still for a week or so…

Radioundermypillow · 25/07/2025 20:13

W1 d6 (wegovy)

Suppression more or less worn off but im sticking to small portions and no snacking.

I feel really good. I had loads of energy on Wednesday and Thursday! Bit more tired today.

I have ADHD, and I swear my brain feels a lot calmer.

Also I take Nexium quite often for acid stomach and I haven't had to at all this week.

I have hardly drunk any coffee or had any caffeine. I'm normally a 4 mug of coffee a day plus an energy drink twice a week.

Also, no alcohol!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 25/07/2025 20:24

Made the mistake of eating a big dinner tonight and I'm really regretting it. Every Friday we go to the chip shop, I normally have an enormous portion but the last couple weeks since starting I've cut it down (and weighed my portion to be able to count the calories). Last week I was fine, this week I weighed out the same amount but couldn't eat it all. My mistake was trying to push through and eat a bit more as I didn't want to waste any, feeling very uncomfortable now. For reference, the full meal was only about 750 cals so not overly excessive for a treat but I guess the jabs really are working!

PourUsAGlass · 25/07/2025 20:31

Also checking in and placemarking. I'm on week 5, and have had my first 5mg jab tonight. I'm really hoping I dont have any bad side effects. I was unsure whether to go up to 5mg, but my suppression was none existent last week when I ordered, so I ordered a 5mg and period arrived the day after. Suppression has been good again this week, so my snacking urges were definitely period related 🙄 x

W4 Day 7
SW 13st 2lb
CW 12st 3lb
GW 10st 7lb
I have stayed on the 2.5mg as I have decent suppression and I’m still losing. Still struggling with my water and have been out for a meal today (and yesterday) for my birthday so calories maxed so I’ll see what effect it has next week!
Going to Greece next Friday so need to take my pen with me. Is there a travel case that people particularly recommend?

CarelessWhisper1966 · 25/07/2025 20:55

W5D1 - took 5gm last night and have felt weird all day today. Have been burping and suffering waves of nausea and light-headedness. Since dinner this evening feeling much better thank goodness. Wondering whether I jumped up to quickly.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 26/07/2025 07:14

Weigh day today and I've lost another 1.9kg!!! That's 5.7kg in two weeks 😮

(As context, I have about 65kg to lose, so big losses are probably easier for me than for people with less to lose, and it will almost certainly slow down soon as my TDEE drops but still, very happy for now!)

Radioundermypillow · 26/07/2025 07:38

I have a question!

Are w2 side effects (same dose) the same as w1? Ie for me that would be 2 rough days then 5 where I felt fine.

Radioundermypillow · 26/07/2025 08:25

I've weighed today- jab tonight. I've lost around 3lb. If that is the same next week I'll be delighted- I often lose 2 or 3 lbs in the first week of a new diet, so it doesn't seem that impressive. But the consistency would be new.

I'm on week 4 and I think SE are random!
The MJ builds in your system week on week as the life span of each jab is 30 days. I was thinking of moving up to 5mg but I've got a busy week ahead and the early morning nausea of the last couple of days has made me decide to stick with 2.5mg this week.

CarbyB · 26/07/2025 13:51

Hey everyone, how is your progress? Today is the end of week 4 for me, I will take my 5th jab (golden dose) tonight. I have lost 9lbs in total! Very happy with that as slow and steady is what I want.

SW: 13st 2lbs
CW: 12st 7lbs
GW: 10st 7lbs

👏

I've lost 7lbs since I started 4 weeks ago but nothing this week
Bit disappointed. Going up to 5mg tomorrow

AirborneElephant · 26/07/2025 14:29

I’m doing well. Lost 7.9kg so far in a shade under 5 weeks 😀. So almost a third of the way there (I need to lose 24kg).

If anyone else is using protein drinks, I just tries the mojito flavour clear protein drink - absolutely gorgeous 😛

EnglishGirlApproximately · 26/07/2025 15:02

I'm coming towards the end of week 3 and have the dreaded constipation. Any recommendations to help get me moving without it potentially moving too much iyswim? Have a long drive tomorrow so don't want to be needing to stop off every half an hour. Have used psyllium husk tablets, getting plenty of fibre etc.

Warmcupoftea · 26/07/2025 15:06

@EnglishGirlApproximately Fresh figs have always been good for me, one a day is plenty! Dried figs are ok but fresh have more potency

3 litres water as an absolute minimum every day (more if having lots of fibre)

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 26/07/2025 15:36

Day 5 feeling like I can’t be bothered with food and not really hungry!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 26/07/2025 15:41

Thanks @WarmcupofteaI can definitely try that, I've had dates but not tried figs.
@LakeFlyPieI do drink a lot of water as I don't like any other cold drink. I don't measure but I'd be surprised if it's less than 3l a day. I'll try to increase it and see if it helps, although the need to pee constantly is definitely a down side.

Well done! 👏 I’ve also hit a bit of a plateau this week - only lost 1lb but don’t be disheartened, our weights naturally fluctuate anyway you’ll probably have a week where you lose a few pounds soon!

Oh bloody wow! This is very impressive, I’m so happy it’s working so well for you! You only have yourself to thank though because you have obviously but doing the right things 💪

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 26/07/2025 18:59

W3D1 and the effects are really kicking in. I had the same salad for lunch that I've had all week but for the first time I couldn't finish it. I normally then get hungry around 4.30/5ish but today I had a cup of tea at around 3 and that filled me up/made me feel a bit sick and now it's past when I would normally eat and although I'm starting to feel hungry I also feel a bit nauseous and can't face cooking.

Thank you so much. It’s been fantastic for me, well beyond my expectations. I’ve always eaten reasonably well and done lots of exercise so I think I’m lucky to have a fairly high BMR plus I average around 650 active calories a day. My issue was huge portions plus cravings for snacks and alcohol, and a really bad emotional reaction when I’m denied. The Mounjaro has completely eliminated that. I’m still hungry, still enjoying food and having to use willpower, but I can eat smaller healthy meals and feel satisfied and I’m not upset I’m not allowed chocolate after.

i have lost 1kg of muscle mass according to my scales. Not ideal, but it’s almost impossible to lose weight without losing some muscle. I have the protein drinks on my lifting days and I’m eating low carb to get enough protein and veg so don’t think there’s much more I can do. I’ll focus on losing the weight first and then build the muscle back up.
