New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

Coming to the end of week three. The first two weeks I had very strong suppression and nausea but this week I’ve felt ok with it. I think I’ve been hungrier slightly but I can’t work out if I’m adjusting and this is how I’m suooosed to feel or if it’s not having the same effect it was. I wanted to stay at 2.5 because it’s been working well and I don’t feel so crap now but I don’t want to make the wrong choice. I think I’m concerned I no longer feel rubbish but also don’t want to make myself feel rubbish by increasing if I don’t need to 😂

Hi, all! Can I come and join you? Just did my first jab this evening and I’m feeling nervous and a bit unsure about what’s to come.

I’d been eating low carb for several years, and I lost 4 stones, but about half of it has gone back on again gradually, and I felt so depressed about the thought of starting again. Hoping this is a new and better start.

But now I’m not sure what to eat! I think I’d like to avoid refined carbs still as I feel better eating that way. But I’d imagine I’m going to need to go lower fat too. Do you all track calories or do you find you don’t need to? My head is spinning a bit.

Be careful with low fat foods though. When they take the fat out they put extra sugar in to make it taste of anything, and sugar is carbs. Do a comparison with a low fat and full fat food (i.e yoghurt) and you'll see what I mean. Besides, your body needs those good fats and they fill you up for longer

I’m managing not to weigh everything although I do weight protein (fish / meat) mainly to check getting enough protein. My diet is pretty low fat anyway and I’d guess I’m at approx 1,200 a day.

i’m eating
Fage 0% (225g) berries and 5g chia seeds and coffeee with akimmmed milk for breakfast

Massive green salad with protein eg tin tuna or equiv for lunch (5g of olive oil and balsamic and grainy mustard as a dressing)

Dinner is stir fry usually chicken but can use quorn or tofu with loads of veg and green curry paste

snacks, protein shake (mid afternoon), 1 square of Lindt 85% (I split into 4 and spread throughout day) and apple

i really don’t want to log everything, weighing protein and fat is enough.

I’m losing 1kg a week.

I'm feeling exactly the same and also coming to the end of week 3. I had some dreadful side effects in the first 2 weeks, but they've settled down now so do I want to push it up to 5mg with the chance that will all come back? I think I'm going to go up to 5mg to try it, but if I start feeling rubbish again I can cut back down to 2.5 by doing half a dose. You can even split the dose that way by doing half a dose twice a week to spread it out. Im going to try that anyway.

Sux2buthen · 25/07/2025 07:32

That does make sense. I’m going to have a think today and possibly do the same

EvelynSalt · 25/07/2025 07:55

Checking in!

W5D1 and feeling a bit peed off, weighed in this morning and no change from last week. I haven’t been eating any differently, if anything I thought I needed to eat a bit more! Hoping it’s just hormones / water retention and that next week sees a jump.

I have a new 2.5mg pen ready to go this evening and wondering now if I should have gone up to 5. However, I am getting good suppression on 2.5, or at least I think I am!

Depends what the low fat food is though! I have fage 0% and it’s only yogurt, fat removed nothing added. Hence you get more protein per 100 calories. Not convinced milk fat is a great fat source. Agree with processed food more generally.

Yeah, have a look on the back and see how much of the carb is "of which sugars", then compare it with the full fat and you'll see what I mean

CookieQueen1986 · 25/07/2025 10:56

Is anyone else struggling to get their second pen approved?
I originally ordered with Lloyds Pharmacy but given they are so expensive I thought I’d switch and give Zava a go as they were significantly cheaper.
I submitted my order yesterday and I’ve just had a notification saying my order has been cancelled. Apparently I don’t meet the weight requirements! I called them and they explained that my BMI was too low.
Im totally puzzled by this as of course my BMU has reduced - I’ve lost weight. Isn’t that the whole point?! I’m still overweight (currently 12 stone 9 lbs).
I guess now I have to stick with Lloyds which is gutting because it £180 for the 5mg 😭

just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Wildflowerblooms · 25/07/2025 11:19

W4 D5, I was approved by my gp yesterday to move up to the 5mg pen this month. I’m diabetic so hopefully this will help bring my sugar within target range, which I haven’t managed to stay in consistently in years even while taking 2000mg of Metformin a day. I’ll stay on the 5mg for a few months until my next blood sugar test, but can tell that it’s already made such a difference to the way my body feels. I’m less sluggish, less tired, and less shaky lately. That plus the lose of 3.5kg so far has me rather happy.

Was there a box to say you’re already on it? You should be able to change providers. Maybe try a different one?

Yes there was a box which said I’ve taken mounjaro in the last two weeks and what dosage I was taking.
Im panicking because of timing now, so I’ve reordered with Lloyds (still pending approval). Next month I won’t leave it so late to order the next pen. I feel like I need to give myself at least a couple of weeks

abitscaredarentI · 25/07/2025 12:57

@MeridaBrave what's the reason for splitting the doses?

Lucienandjean · 25/07/2025 13:18

Feeling really nauseous today (did first jab yesterday). Struggling to eat anything at all, but have managed a couple of rich tea biscuits and some tea. Is this likely to improve as the week goes on?

i was similar - first jab on Tuesday evening. Have found I need to eat little and often to stop feeling nauseous. Seems a bit better today but still need to have very small amounts regularly

Elvish · 25/07/2025 14:52

W4D5 here and I'm sitting at my desk thinking about food for the first time since my first injection.

I'm going up to 5mg next as my suppression is much lower on the last day or 2 of the week.

MeridaBrave · 25/07/2025 15:06

abitscaredarentI · 25/07/2025 12:57

To save money. I’m planning to use the 5mg pen for 10/11 doses of 2.5mg. Yes I know that means it will be after the 30 days but it will be kept in the fridge, won’t even let it come to room temp for the injections.

Yes I am not sure I’ll be able to change now as I’m also now under the limit after only 3.5 weeks (to be fair I was right on the limit when i started and I have lost 5kg. I’m with SheMed, it’s £160 a month.

Look on the Monj.co.uk website it tells you which suppliers will give you if under the limit but already been taking. There are a few options.

I have both here as DC eat the full fat version. Both have 3G of carbs, both have 3G “of which sugars”.

@Bunnie22 you said the same about milk. They do not take the fat out of skimmed milk and put sugar in. I'm not sure where you are getting this from.

I’m planning on doing this too, especially for maintenance. I’ll go up the doses as fast as they’ll let me, and then take my chosen dose each time. Will save me well over 50% overall.

Yes they do, and white paint otherwise it's almost clear. Don't you watch documentaries about how your foods made? Google it

Don’t be ridiculous. Skimmed milk has nothing added. It’s just milk with the fat removed.

OP posts:
AirborneElephant · 25/07/2025 16:54

Um, what? Are you seriously suggesting that skimmed milk has sugar and white PAINT added? Or is that a weird joke? If you are serious then you really need to get some mental health help.
