@Lidlbitofmonica on Dulcolax, yes it needs to be planned. I had a busy weekend so didn't take it, paying for that today!

I had gone up to 2 tablets when needed, but have had to go back to 1, because it can be a bit brutal. Last time I had 2 I had to have a hot water bottle for the stomach cramps.

It is a useful tool, but also no-nonsense!

ymemanresu · 30/06/2025 10:26

Hi i @Lidlbitofmonicai take a large peppermint oil capsule from holland and barrett every morning and night, you burp peppermint instead, really helps. Im suffering bad with my blockage again @Coventreethe bio kult isn’t working anymore, did it for you? . So uncomfortable

i made the mistake of reading this thread the other day and I’m really not fancying the idea of taking it now 😂www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4621791-to-think-dulcolax-are-the-work-of-the-devil

Think I need to start on the peppermint, thank you. I’ve generally had it under control with prunes and fybogel but have obviously lost control just now! Been a bit sick and feel better for it now.

Hawkmoth · 30/06/2025 11:07

Just a heads up, peppermint oil capsules do give me a minty heartburn. I don't much like taking them, but it's better than the other kind of burps.

That thread is very funny. One tablet really is much more civilised!

@wendywoopywoo222 I know what you mean about sweet things. I have had a Galaxy bar in the cupboard which DH bought me for 2 MONTHS! This is unheard of for me, hopefully choosing fruit as a treat will become a habit that will help in maintenance.

@Lidlbitofmonica I second ymemanresu recommendation of peppermint, I found even mint tea reduces inflammation and moves things in the right direction to reduce sulfur burps, and it helps with the taste of them.

Well done for all losses, and empathy to my fellow plodders, I lost 1 lb this week but I do feel a difference overall and perhaps next week scales will reflect the loss.

Feeling good, having a community, and sticking with this is something I feel is different to my previous weight loss attempts. I havent ever felt this positive before, and I think it will make all the difference.

I’m with you on the feeling positive front, weight loss definitely feels different this time round. I’ve cancelled my gym class tonight as I feel rubbish, and I’m actually disappointed - this is not like me!
Really hope I can keep it going once I cone off the jabs though.

Oh my god, that thread’s hilarious @Lidlbitofmonica! I found myself nodding away. 2 dulcolax are indeed the work of the devil…but nothing else comes close to the results and the relief afterwards! I’m in horrified awe of those that have tried 3. That’s one little pill too far for me, but I salute their bravery as they prepare to perish on the porcelain throne 🚽.

I don’t feel that the Bio Kult have done anything to help @ymemanresu, although I haven’t managed the full 4 a day. I take a fibre capsule and a Bio Kult every morning, add a chopped up dried fig to either lunch or dinner plus another Bio Kult and a multivitamin, have oranges and grapes every day, an apple most days, and drink around 3l of water a day. I’d usually take a dulcolax when needed, increasing to 2 if no result, but Morrisons swapped it for senna tablets in my order, so have been having 2 of those at night and took an extra 2 yesterday as it had been a few days over a week 😱. I did have a gentle but effective clear out finally this morning 🎉 and then tried a suppository for good measure, but there’s been no further evacuations since.

But in a bizarre way, I missed the feeling of knowing my intestines had been wrung out and sucked dry 🤣🤣🤣. Will try some more senna later, although those fruit and fibre cubes linked in the article look interesting so I’ll have a read of the reviews!

Coventree · 30/06/2025 14:17

Ordered some of the fruit and fibre cubes…will report back!

Please do, I was intrigued as well!

PoisonIvy89 · 30/06/2025 17:07

@Ricoletti oh yes please to being cool and floaty!

@wendywoopywoo222 off sweet things here too, I even had to reduce the sweetener in my coffee, everything tastes far too sweet now. not a fan of carbs anymore either.

well done @PeachSnail @dozywelshbird @Coffeeandallthebooks and anyone else I missed

I took am interested!

The experimental gut research you are taking on our behalf is amazing. It's a shame its because we really it!

There is a company called The Gut Stuff which do bars with 10g of fibre, I've found them useful when you have high suppression and can't manage to eat enough veg and fruit.

dozywelshbird · 30/06/2025 19:11

Hi all, quick query....

I have managed to get 0.80 out of my 5mg pen (golden dose) does anyone know how to work out what dose this equates to please? I've had a quick Google search but can't find much 🤷‍♀️

Cheers to anyone who can help 😁

dozywelshbird · 30/06/2025 19:15

I found this calculation.... Just need someone more knowledgeable to reassure me 😁

Dose (mg) = (volume (ml)/standard volume(ml)) x standard pen dose (mg)

Golden dose = (0.80/0.60) x 5 = 6.66 mg

Sheldon4k · 30/06/2025 19:25

@dozywelshbird I would agree.
.20 is a third of a dose... so 5/3 = 1.66
Plus the .60 full dose of 5
Total 6.66

wlinewbie0425 · 30/06/2025 19:33

@dozywelshbirdis bang on. Always the volume or clicks you actually take divided by 0.6 or 60 that gives you the ratio to then multiply by the normal dose in mg of the pen. Works exact same calculation for all pens.

dozywelshbird · 30/06/2025 21:19

Thanks @wlinewbie0425 and @Sheldon4k , that's very reassuring.

I was thinking about moving up to 7.5mg so this 6.6mg golden dose will be a good bridge to that. Fingers crossed not horrible SE but lots of suppression 😁

Zebracat · 30/06/2025 23:49

We had a birthday here today. Ate too much dinner and pudding and cake. I feel disgusting, over sugared and dehydrated. Even tho it was 5 hours ago, I’m sure I won’t sleep. Maybe I needed this to remind me that MJ gets its own back if you don’t take it seriously. Gaviscon needed.

dozywelshbird · 01/07/2025 06:25

Oh dear @Zebracat hope you managed to sleep okay in the end?

StartingApril2025 · 01/07/2025 06:37

Having read all the constipation posts over last few weeks I am now finding myself in the same boat! We are on holiday at the min and for the first time in the 9 weeks I am constipated whereas I usually have the looser side of normal, mainly due to three days at a theme park where my diet was French fries, some bread and an apple a day! Oh and not near enough water! Now onto the next part of holiday and will get to a shop today get supplies ( and prunes!)

Zebracat · 01/07/2025 11:16

Thank you @dozywelshbird . I did sleep, I took a gaviscon. Put on a kilo overnight. Never doing that again. We’ve got loads of this very rich cake left, going nowhere near it. Bleurgh. We had to have our little dog put to sleep today, so don’t think anyone will want cake😔

Coffeeandallthebooks · 01/07/2025 11:57

Oh @Zebracat I'm so sorry. It's such a hard thing to have to do. Thinking of you x

dozywelshbird · 01/07/2025 15:51

oh I'm so sorry to hear that @Zebracat its heart-breaking to have to make that decision but they need us to do that final thing for them. Be kind to yourself today 😭

dozywelshbird · 01/07/2025 15:52

....and pass the cake on to the neighbours 😁

Hawkmoth · 01/07/2025 16:32

Sorry for your loss @Zebracat. So tough for the whole family.
