Anyone microdosing mounjaro?

Fluffypiece · 06/06/2025 07:43

I am! W1 D3. Doing 0.5 for 2 weeks moving to 1.0 for the next 2 weeks and then will review with dr

so far mild effects but a reduction in hip pain that has plagued me for years - don’t know if that’s just psychological. No SE

(I know some people feel strongly anti re microdosing - I’m doing it with a dr and I’m happy with my choice - not advocating it for anyone else just would like to connect with anyone doing the same)

Your pen will time out won't it? You can only use for 30 days once opened.

Ahrightsoted · 06/06/2025 07:50

@Doggymummar can I ask you what u mean by pen timing out at 30 days. I do my dh's weekly injection and he changed from ozempic which had no issues. But since he's been on monjoro I can never get the last dose out. I just can't get it to turn around and thought maybe I was using it wrong. But u saying about 30 days has got me thinking...

hedgerunner · 06/06/2025 07:51

I’m not micro dosing, but someone I follow in insta is and is having great results. How do you it as I thought pens can’t be used after 30 days.

stillavid · 06/06/2025 07:52

@Doggymummar each pen has four doses - the final one you are trying to get is known as the 'golden dose' but is the leftover liquid.

Up to you if you want to try and get it out - opinions divided as to whether people should or not. Theoretically the pen contains 4 doses and should be used within 30 days.

Ahrightsoted · 06/06/2025 07:55

@stillavid I'm only getting 3 doses out his pens and then it stops turning if that makes sense, never had this problem with ozempic. A while back he brought one to his diabetic nurse appt and she got it out with a needle

TheNinthLock · 06/06/2025 08:16

You should be able to get 4 full doses (60 clicks / turning until you see the 1 in the window) out of your pen.
If you are only getting 3 doses, then you are miscounting the number of doses somewhere along the line?

Edited to add: After those 4 full doses, there is a bonus amount left over in the pen (it is put in there to use when priming the needle). Some people extract this with an insulin syringe.

But you should get 4 full doses out of a new pen if using it as prescribed.

The instructions leaflets in the box explain.

They instruct that USED pens, or pens out of fridge temperatures (USED or UNUSED) should be discarded after 30 days.

Lots of other information in the leaflets worth your dh reading as there are some differences between Ozempic and mounjaro.

When you say "last dose" do you mean the 5th dose. It is not accessible using the pen normally as officially it is not meant to be used, officially the pen delivers 4 doses only.

@Fluffypiece I’m interested to know why you are microdosing, is it for general health benefits ? I watched an interesting video which talked about many health benefits with microdosing but it did not go into what microdosing meant, the amounts or how often they could/should be taken.
I believe it’s a much more common thing in the USA.

YouWillFindMeInTheGarden · 06/06/2025 08:49

Are they supposed to be used in this way? What ‘doctor’ is advocating misuse of a pen?

and why are you putting it all over the internet?

wobblybrain · 06/06/2025 08:50

What kind of a Doctor are you seeing for this?

Gosh I'm being thick here but does this mean the pen doesn't need to (or shouldn't!) be in the fridge once you start using it?

Yes, it doesn’t need to be kept in the fridge after you start using it, but it can be. Personal choice.

BerfyTigot · 06/06/2025 09:14

@Fluffypiece some of us are!

Good info about how to do this from 2 doctors on YouTube.

Dr Emma Anders
Dr Kevin Joseph

Good luck!

It’s anecdotal but I know someone who’s been told by her GP husband that the 30 day time limit is bollocks if it’s kept in the fridge (which makes sense - why would it degrade at exactly the same rate as keeping it at room temperature). I’ve also seen similar anecdotes on Reddit. Obviously the manufacturer is never going to say it’s okay though but it’s a personal choice.

I’ve name changed for this as I’m sure a bun fight will follow.
Ive been microdosing for 3 months from a 15mg pen. My prescriber knows and although she can’t advocate it for professional reasons she has directed me to lots of information on microdosing.
This wonder drug does so much more than just weight loss as trials coming through will soon show and it will benefit people in many ways that are just starting to be discovered.
as for throwing it away after 30 days, as long as you are using sterile needles and alcohol wipes the chance of infection is very low.

My guess would about the 30 day limit is that once you’ve done your first injection, you have pierced the pens seal so it’s no longer sterile, so the sooner it’s used the better, and likely becoming more unsterile after each use over the 30 days, so using it for longer than that is not a good idea.

PearlsPearl · 06/06/2025 09:43

0, 7, 14, 21, 28.

That's 5 doses within the 30 day period, so I can't see any problem with people using the 'golden dose'. Which you'll need to extract with a needle.

I have started on 1.25mg, my own assessed risk. I've had good experiences so far with my first 2 weeks. I'm not rushing to go up and I've lost 6lb and don't feel hungry. When I eventually go up to 2.5 I'll stay on that as long as possible. Then I'll go to 3.75 for as long as possible, etc.

Maybe but I can’t see why it makes no difference whether it’s kept cold or not. Surely bacteria multiply far faster at room temperature. I suspect that the risk of it infecting you is pretty low and it obviously suits the pharma companies to say you can’t use it for longer seeing as they do various strengths and if they said it was okay, nobody would buy the 2.5mg anymore.

Which is what I said. The op is using tiny doses so her pen will time out, expire, go bad whatever you want to call it. It shouldn't be used beyond 30 days. It's 4 jabs if whatever dose you are on, 15mg in my cade

Five potential jabs surely - day 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29

I started on the usual 2.5g and did that for 2 weeks but I’ve had indigestion in the form of a sensation that I have something stuck in my throat. So instead of taking the next two 2.5g doses I’ve essentially split the remainder into three 1.67 doses. I’ll still use the pen in the 30 days but just a slightly lower dose to try to get the side effects more manageable. I’ve found my side effects improving slowly so I’ll probably keep at this lower dose for the time being. I’m perfectly happy with the suppression I’ve been having. I’m on W3D5 and I’ve lost 5.3kg/11.5lbs so far. It has been slower losses this week but as long as it’s moving in the right direction I’m happy.

Loveautumnhatewinter · 06/06/2025 11:17

I read something somewhere yesterday that the ‘golden dose’ people are referring to has been linked to deaths. And that it wasn’t intended to be used. Don’t know the legitimacy of what I’d read, just thought I’d flag it.
