Hi everyone!

I started MJ around this time last year, but due to costs and unforeseen family circumstances, I fell of the band wagon and took about 6 months off. I’m now a stone heavier than I was. I am back and ready to go again. First pen, back to 2.5mg, arriving tomorrow or Friday.

I found the last thread I was on very supportive so wondered if there’s a few people around who want to join me!

What's this emphasis on protein? I've read up on the weight loss pack and they talk about eating less but nothing specifically about protein? What has got people tracking protein in particular?

Protein also has an increased effect on thermogenesis- essentially, it takes your body more calories to simply digest it than say carbs or fats. Also it does help you maintain muscle mass which is essential in weight loss (especially hopefully fast weight loss!) to stop everything just going to jelly.

Basically, the more muscle you have, the more calories you essentially burn every day just for existing and the more toned you’ll look once all our extra weight has melted away 😊

This doesn’t mean everyone needs to start bulking and weightlifting, just walking helps build muscle and the increased protein should help you burn the fat and keep the muscle. That’s the theory anyway!

Oh - and I also learned that the body can only really absorb 10-20g protein at a time, so it’s best to spread it out through the day if you can 💪

moremoremores · 01/06/2025 21:30

@nexttonormal what fibre mix are you using?

@moremoremores I'm using good old fashioned fybogel. It's s big grim but I prefer soluble to gummies for fibre.

Foreveronaplane · 01/06/2025 22:23

Re Nutrition & Protein - I highly recommend Dr Jack Mosley new book ‘Food Noise’. Really easy to read full of information about WLI and why protein is really important.

May I join please? I am on my 3rd week of mounjaro.Hello everyone 👋

Hi and welcome. How is it going for you?
I'm week 2 day 3 and have decent suppression so far. I'm not counting calories yet as I get too obsessed about it all. Early days though.

dyzzidi · 01/06/2025 23:08

Tinybirdie · 01/06/2025 21:07

An hour a day!! I'd pass out! I'm so unfit it's not even funny. My job is very sedentary so I really need to up my steps every day

It adds up over the course of the day so a bit of a brisk short walk a few times a day and I’m hopeful to fit it in

Card1gan · 02/06/2025 00:50

Hi, can I join, please? I’ve been approved so expecting my pen to arrive within the next few days. However, I won’t be starting until next Monday (9th June) as I have an event at the weekend and I don’t want to be a party pooper, especially if I have any side effects.

I have only told my husband about my plans, no other family or friends. I am concerned about side effects, especially nausea, as this is how my body reacts to everything. I need to lose 3 stone but will be delighted with 2!

Let’s do this together, good luck everyone!

cigarsmokingwoman · 02/06/2025 06:21

w1d2 for me, woke up feeling like someone had inflated a balloon in me, a tight kind of feeling. I was also a bit sick during the night but fine now. Wondering what to have for breakfast or even if I should have breakfast!

HerFifthDecade · 02/06/2025 06:35

@Lifecircle its going ok.The first week I lost 4lb and the second week 4lb. I’m on 1200 calories per day and do a fit class 2-3 evenings a week.
I have been hungry though later in the day on the second week.My week starts on Sundays with it so it’s only week3 d2 here.
How are you finding it? If not counting calories how have you adapted?

Samilaa99 · 02/06/2025 06:37

Hope you feel better @cigarsmokingwoman W1D2 for me also. Jabbed yesterday am and wasn't hungry all day, but my calorie output was minimal so didn't burn hardly anything either. No SE so far except being up 4 or 5 times during night to wee. Hoping my body gets used to the increased water very quickly! Let's see what happens today...

Xmasfairy86 · 02/06/2025 06:53

W1D2 here. Yesterday was a good day food wise. No side effects to report. Not as many steps as I’d like but still north of 5k.

woke up feeling a bit nauseous but not sure if that is in my head 🤷🏼‍♀️ made breakfast of yogurt and fruit but it’s still sat next to me as I want to drink my coffee whilst it’s hot 😆 don’t usually eat breakfast but decided I should especially if I feel nauseous

happy Monday!

I'm finding the suppression and mild nausea means I'm not craving carbs so am eating a lot less and concentrating on lean protein with vegetables and salad. However I've spent many years yo yo dieting and am realistic enough to know that this may not last.
Mentally I'm fairly aware of calories in most foods that I eat so I'm just not logging every single calorie like I would have done in the past. Hope that makes sense.
I took a sneaky peak halfway through this week and have shed another 1lb. I'd be happy to lose 2lbs at the end of my 2nd week.
I just hope there won't be any delay in getting my 2nd pen.
Have you ordered your next pen yet?

SparklyFinch · 02/06/2025 07:44

So interesting that a few of you are going off Diet Coke, I have found that too and usually I have 3-4 cans a day!

I’m on W2D1 now. Will be taking my second jab this evening, but have just weighed myself.

SW 113.6kg
GW 70kg

CW 112.2kg

Little bit disappointed but, aside from the Diet Coke aversion, and being incredibly thirsty for water, I haven’t really felt any suppression or side effects. Fingers crossed it ramps up a bit!!

SusanSHelit · 02/06/2025 07:48

Good morning everyone!

Glad to see not too many of us with bad side effects

How is everyone feeling?

W1d3 here

I'm tired this morning, didn't sleep particularly well last night, dcat got into a rather loud fight with neighbour cat but appears unscathed

Yoghurt and mango for breakfast today as I'm pretty hungry, but that may just be the tiredness making me more hungry.

Plan on doing a food shop this afternoon, will have to resist the multiple greggs. It's about a mile and a half to the shops from me and I usually get a taxi but I might walk it today

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 02/06/2025 08:09

Just placemarking as I have been approved and am awaiting my first delivery from Juniper.

At the moment it feels overwhelming and I’m already stressed about sickness, nausea, diarrhoea, protein, fibre and electrolytes. Am hoping that once I have a couple of weeks under my belt it will all feel a lot easier to navigate.

I am terrible for fluid intake so am going to make a conscious effort to start that today and try to eat healthily ahead of any injecting just to try and avoid huge change. I’ve no idea if it will make the slightest difference of course.

Not weighed for a week or so but I’d say I am about 17st 3 at 5ft 7 and I’m hoping to lose about 4/5 stone. Been a dieter for decades so I’m trying not to be too over confident about any success.

Looking forward to seeing how you all get on.

KillerMounjaro · 02/06/2025 08:11

I did my first jab last night about 9pm. Went to bed at 11 and was still awake at 3am! I don’t sleep that well in general (which I’m really hoping will improve) but I’d actually been quite good the last few days, so I don’t know why that was.

I know it’s early anyway, but I don’t feel any different to normal otherwise so far!

Had some coffee for breakfast and I’ll see how I feel at lunchtime. I don’t usually eat breakfast anyway.

weegiemum · 02/06/2025 08:22

I’m waiting for my first pen to arrive in the next couple of days. I have a huge amount of weight to lose (10 stone +) so I’m hoping this will be a good thing to help.

Radiatorvalves · 02/06/2025 08:36

Wk 1 day 3 yesterday - had a bbq with friends. Usually I’d have had 2/3 drinks and grazed a lot. Had 1 aperol spritz and one sandwich. Stuffed. In the evening I had bbq lamb and small portion of veg. Really didn’t fancy a drink despite wine being open.

Feeling a bit thinner BUT the scales have broken. Need to get some new ones! Decided that I’m going to walk min of 10k steps a day (am recovering from foot op) and get out on bike.

ArwenStewQueen · 02/06/2025 09:16

Okay so W1D3 - no real side effects yet (phew!), some slight suppression but still hungry. Is anyone else feeling their hunger ramp up towards the evening?

Had a cheeky weigh in this morning and scales said I’ve lost 3lbs! But I think a lot of that will be water weight.

SW 17st 11
CW 17st 8
GW 11st
5’6

About to grab some breakfast and hope everything continues in this direction!

Any fellow Juniperees out there? How have you found it?

SusanSHelit · 02/06/2025 09:25

Feeling a bit nauseated after Greek yoghurt with mango and honey, will have a much smaller portion tomorrow if I have breakfast at all.

Wasn't great with hydration yesterday so going to try and concede a bit on that today.

Made the mistake of standing on the scales this morning and I seem to be 3kg down which absolutely must be mostly water weight but encouraging nonetheless at day 3

dietstartstmoz · 02/06/2025 09:39

Morning all,
W1 D2 for me. The appetite suppression is huge for me on 2.5mg. Almost to the point I am struggling to eat, not something I ever thought I would say!
Managed 1100 cals yesterday and 51g of protein. Today I have had branflakes with raisins for breakfast and half a protein shake. It's so strange I am not thinking about food at all. I knew I needed to eat yesterday when I felt a bit light headed and sick but absolutely no desire to snack at all. I have no side effects so far. So far so good 👍

OhMyEarsAndWhiskers · 02/06/2025 09:47

W1D3 for me. Still no real side effects. Got to 1100 calories the last two days and couldn't eat another thing. Occasionally I'll have an urge to snack, more out of habit than anything else, but then I remember I'm not actually hungry and it goes. It's such a relief not to be thinking about food all the time.

ArwenStewQueen · 02/06/2025 10:06

I’m definitely still waiting for the food noise to disappear! And still hungry on 1300kcal but let’s hope the continued jabs will sort that out 🤞

I’ve been so petrified I’m going one of those people who it just doesn’t work for! 🙈

IndigoBabble · 02/06/2025 10:07

I’ve just had my first dose! Was scared about injecting myself but did it in my thigh and couldn’t feel a thing!

I am 51 3/4
5’4”
Current weight is 11st 12lb

I used to be a size 8-10 pre children and menopause and around 9 stone.

The weight had just kept on creeping up and up and I haven’t managed to shift it by willpower alone.

I don’t think I overeat that much but do snack between meals and like my wine far too much so hoping this will also help me with that!

Feeling anxious about side effects but I need to get myself back to feeling like me again and not feeling fat, tired and unattractive.

Good luck all and it’s so nice to have people to share this journey with as I am not telling anyone apart from my husband.

We’ve got this xx

polkadotpixie · 02/06/2025 10:25

I’m on W2D2 now, injected yesterday

I only lost 1lb in my first week which was disappointing but I didn’t exercise or drink more water so must do better this week

SW: 11.3
CW: 11.2
TW: 9.3

I definitely felt suppression and a reduction in the food noise on days 2/3/4 last week but they were creeping back in on days 5/6/7

I’m struggling with what to eat tbh, I’m vegetarian and gluten free and I snack too much. I know I’m definitely not getting enough protein

Side effects wise, I’ve had some nausea and loads of really bizarre dreams but nothing that would put me off continuing
