June 2025 Starters - Mounjaro (title edited by MNHQ at request of the OP)

Hi everyone!

I started MJ around this time last year, but due to costs and unforeseen family circumstances, I fell of the band wagon and took about 6 months off. I’m now a stone heavier than I was. I am back and ready to go again. First pen, back to 2.5mg, arriving tomorrow or Friday.

I found the last thread I was on very supportive so wondered if there’s a few people around who want to join me!

I’ve reported to Mumsnet and asked that the Title be changed to include June starters so fingers crossed! I did my first jab about 1:30 this afternoon. Here’s to us all being healthier!

Oh that was quick thanks Mumsnet!

Ooh fab thank you. I’m starting Monday and I’m terrified as I have a phobia of vomiting 🫤

Fellow Emetephobe here 👋

If it helps I found this really difficult. From my experience of taking it last year, I only felt nauseous when I was too “hungry”. I didn’t feel hungry because of the MJ, but it was always when I realised I hadn’t had enough food throughout the day. A snack soon sorted me out and I was back to normal. Everyone is different though and not everyone gets that particular side effect :)

I've ordered from Asda and waiting for my order to be processed.

I'm shit scared, but I have high blood pressure and cholesterol. Aching joints too and I'm 60 in 18 months.

My mum died very unexpectedly last September of a heart attack. I need to start looking after my health.

I'd like to lose 3 stone minimum.

Mich57 · 29/05/2025 19:49

I'm on W1D5 and hardly any side affects 🙏🏼 following the basics of SW but upping my protein and water to 2-3 litres.

We've got this 🤜🏼🥰

SusanSHelit · 29/05/2025 20:07

My first pen arrived today. I'm more appreh than I thought I would be.

I have decided to have one last pig out today and order a takeaway. I've just finished a 12.5 hour shift and have another one tomorrow so I'm uncertain about actually taking my first dose today. Though I'm keen to get started I'm a little worried about side effects tomorrow so not sure whether to just take it after work tomorrow rather than tonight.

It looks exactly like an insulin pen

BadgerFace · 29/05/2025 20:19

@ArwenStewQueen I was a bit apprehensive as I don’t like needles, even though I’ve been through IVF and post-pregnancy blood thinner injections, and having done my first injection tonight it is completely fine! The needle is so thin and tiny you can’t feel it at all. You will be okay.

Now I’m trying to work out if you can start to feel side effects after 2 hours or if it’s just excitement at starting the journey… Hoping for a smooth ride for all of us June Bugs!

polkadotpixie · 29/05/2025 21:18

Can I join please? I did my first injection on Sunday
I’m 5’3 and my starting weight was 11st 3lbs with a BMI of 27.8. I have high cholesterol but no other weight related issues
I’ve definitely noticed a reduction in my appetite so far, no major side effects apart from some nausea if I don’t eat

I’m hoping to lose 2 stone

Potterson13 · 30/05/2025 09:36

How is everyone this morning?

I had a rough night with the kids and then woke up absolutely drenched in sweat! Wondering if that’s a side effect. Time will tell!

SusanSHelit · 30/05/2025 10:11

I decided to hold off on my first dose last night, very glad as my ward is crazy busy today and I don't know if I could have coped with any potential side effects.

I have a couple of days off with not much planned after today so I'm going to take it before bed tonight

Radiatorvalves · 30/05/2025 11:18

I’ve just had a text to say my first batch will be arriving today.

I have no idea what to expect. I think I need to go to Boots and get a sharps disposal box! Is it obvious how to inject?

Im normally quite active but have done very little for past 2 months after an operation. Walking distances isn’t easy at the moment. Plus I slipped on the stairs the other night and I’m incredibly stiff which isn’t helping. Excuses excuses. I’d rather not tell DH I’m going on MJ - he’s super fit and v slim, and I know he’ll think it’s a crazy idea. But I guess it may be obvious?

I’ve got 2 friends who’ve been really positive about their experience. One has lost 4 stone. Over about 6 months. I need or rather want to lose about 10kg. So I’m hoping that will be achievable in 2-3 months?

ArwenStewQueen · 30/05/2025 11:39

I’ve just received mine today and trying to decide whether to plunge all in or have one last day of ‘freedom’ 😂 although I guess that’s not a good mindset, as hopefully this weight loss WILL give me more freedom, body and mind.

How was your first day? Were the side effects immediate?

SusanSHelit · 30/05/2025 11:39

@Radiatorvalves mine came with a sharps box and quite detailed instructions on how to inject. It also came packed in ice and was still fridge cold when I opened the box

AlohaRose · 30/05/2025 11:43

Mine also came with a sharps box and packed in a wool surround and with a cool bag.

In terms of side-effects, I don't think I really had any for the first few days, apart from some dizziness. However, as I mentioned further up the thread, I had constipation and then diarrhoea on days four and five so that wasn't great! Today is day seven and so far so good although it tends to come on in the afternoon so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It does seem to vary between people though and sometimes it's difficult to distinguish what is a genuine side effect from what is actually psychosomatic.

ShakespearesSisters · 30/05/2025 11:46

I would like to join. I have taken the plunge and placed an order last night. Hopefully will arrive soon.

MountainsAndSheep · 30/05/2025 13:02

Mine also arrived with a sharps box. I found the instructions for injecting really easy to follow.

Day 2, and so far no side effects. Appetite suppression has been great so far.. I haven’t felt hungry, no food noise. Made myself eat a small dinner last night and was satisfied. Husband cooked himself some burgers which smelled amazing (thanks for being so supportive 🙄) but didn’t feel any sort of food envy or desire to have some.

just had a small bowl of soup for lunch and feel stuffed. I think it’s working!!

ArwenStewQueen · 30/05/2025 13:03

I’ve done it! I’m SUCH a needle phobe so even though it didn’t hurt a bit I was glad I was on my bed. Feel a bit woozy but I think that’s psychological rather than physical!

Very straightforward to inject, I’m on Juniper so they have a step by step video and all the equipment too.

Good luck everyone, and here we go!

Tinybirdie · 30/05/2025 13:37

Mine is arriving today. Yikes! I'm not mentally prepared - I thought it would be next Friday before I started. I want to start on a Friday to try to limit the side effects having an impact on my work. Well, nothing else for it but to go for it. Am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my postie.

Where has everyone chosen for the first injection site?

Did thigh the first time so I could be sure I could see everything (gulp!) Also, trying to avoid the stretchmarks on my belly is nigh impossible 🙄

Think next time I’ll do belly to mix it up (and try and find a clear spot! 😂)

Good luck! 🤞

MissFizzyPop · 30/05/2025 15:11

I went for the thigh for my first injection also!
W1d2 and I think I'm feeling some suppression (or it might be psychosomatic), what I've eaten today so far, I would normally have eaten by 10am!

Potterson13 · 30/05/2025 15:33

I’m definitely feeling the suppression already. Forcing myself to get my calories in as best as I can. I want to do this sustainably and as healthily as possible!

Tinybirdie · 30/05/2025 15:37

It arrived and I made hubby inject me in the stomach. Didn't feel anything at all!! I feel like I'm being hypervigilant to how my body is reacting. I need to chill out!

Well, here's to the start of the journey - glad we're all sailing together!!

Beeneatingsomemousse · 30/05/2025 15:43

Mine is on the way. I read an article in The Times and thought the two journalists sounded like sensible people.

I really hope that this is a good move.

SusanSHelit · 30/05/2025 16:03

Weighed myself in work today and was absolutely horrified to tip the scales at 100kg or 15st9! Which is far far too heavy for someone my height (4ft 10, I'm very very short). I'm aiming for 8st, maybe 9st.

It's going to be a long journey.

Looking forward to taking my first dose tonight now and really trying to kick this excess weight. I'm going for the thigh. I'm due my sayana press (at home contraceptive jab) today as well so I have to stab myself twice tonight when I get home from work. Not looking forward to that at all. At least now I have a sharps box I can put that into now instead of doing it in work I suppose....
