Hi everyone!

I started MJ around this time last year, but due to costs and unforeseen family circumstances, I fell of the band wagon and took about 6 months off. I’m now a stone heavier than I was. I am back and ready to go again. First pen, back to 2.5mg, arriving tomorrow or Friday.

I found the last thread I was on very supportive so wondered if there’s a few people around who want to join me!

@Dellabella83 your private GP perhaps needs to read the instructions…. Because you attach a new needle each time you inject, the priming is to check that the needle is attached correctly and also not defective. The priming process, as described in the instructions, is after you’ve attached the needle to turn the pen two clicks (shown by two of the marker lines), and then press the end down until the pen returns to the 0 position. You should get a small bead of liquid coming out, sometimes a bit more. If nothing comes out you repeat the priming process. If it still doesn’t produce any liquid, you change the needle and try again.

I think I’ve read the instructions wrong then. 🫣 I thought it said to turn the pen until it reached 1 in the window. Does the priming happen before this step? Did I miss a step? Oh well, nothing I can do now.
So next week, for injection 2, I attach new needle, turn pen two clicks then return to O then turn to 1, is that correct? I need to reread and watch the video linked above I think.
I’ve had a previous pulmonary embolism after giving birth so I’m higher risk I think. 🙄

Sorry to be dumb: So last night I took my first one and twisted it from zero to 1 and then pushed in my leg. Next week, will I twist it to one again? And then I need to push down a bit before putting it in my leg, is that right? Should I have pushed down a little last night before injecting?
I did read the instructions but obviously missed that bit.

You do an initial twisting (think its two clicks past the zero) and press the plunger, usually expelling a bit of medicine out and returning the reading back to 0. This is the priming. It is only after this is done that you twist to 1 and inject into your body.

There is a link to a video kindly posted, which hopefully does help.

Dellabella83 · 08/06/2025 10:13

The private gp I’m doing this through went through a thorough demo and stated it only needs to be primed on the first jab of each new pen

I'm no expert, but I think that's wrong. The reason you have to prime is to stop air bubbles being injected into the body and so it is surely important to do this every time you inject. If an air bubble enters the body it can cause an embolism which is very serious so please check this out again with your GP.

SilenceInside · 08/06/2025 10:31

@ThisNeedsToWork don’t worry, priming is just to check that the needle is properly attached and working. If you injected without problems then your needle was attached and working. Priming just means that you find out any issues with the needle before you try to inject.

The paper instructions that came in the box with your medication take you through it step by step, including the priming process. You just follow the same instructions each time.

SilenceInside · 08/06/2025 10:34

@Nerdippy the risk of an air embolism from a subcutaneous injection is exceptionally low, as you aren’t injecting into a vein. Hence people being allowed to self inject subcutaneously at home without needing any medical training. A small air bubble in a subcutaneous site might cause a bit of pain or irritation, but nothing else. So it’s a good idea to remove any small air bubbles to avoid that, but it isn’t a massive risk if you don’t.

Thank you for that - it sets my mind at rest knowing that it's not as risky as I thought!

Thank you so much everyone!
@SilenceInside , you have massively put my mind at rest, so special thanks to you!
I’ve been up since 7.10 and only had a cup of tea. No hunger whatsoever. Blimey! This is very unusual for me. Wondering if it’s psychosomatic! 🤷‍♀️

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 08/06/2025 10:58

I’m starting W1D3 today. It’s all very subtle but impressed with how it makes you view food as fuel again rather than constantly thinking about food as a reward / treats / stress release. It’s making eating be a simple process - eating like animals do for necessity - rather than being bombarded by the complexities of eating in our modern society where v clever humans have made food something it was never supposed to be in order to make money from it.

averythinline · 08/06/2025 11:02

Hi just joining took my 1st jab on 31 May ..so have done 2 now
. I have 5 stone to loose..
Think i noticed more immediate suppression with the 1st..but not really expecting much on the intro dose..
Heartburn a bit if i have more tgan 2 glasses if wine..
I'm trying to concentrate on keeping fluid intake high and portion control... Its going to take ages so i want to really calibrate my brain to what is the right amount of food ...
Going to join ny local gym and try and get unto that habit as well..,

Sarebear1984 · 08/06/2025 12:26

How's everyone's weight loss going?
I'm starting my first dose next week and i'm so excited to get back to the old me!
My starting stats are:
SW: 244lbs (111kg, 17st 6lbs)
GW:180lbs (53kg, 12st 12lbs)

Nerdippy · 08/06/2025 14:06

@Sarebear1984 I took my first dose yesterday - not noticed anything yet as I still ate my breakfast this morning (granola/milk/fresh fruit and coffee plus a couple of glasses water) with my normal gusto!

Good luck with your journey, but if it makes you feel any better your GW will be 81.6kg not 53kg!

Hi all, after some advice. I have just done my second 2.5 injection. Followed the instructions once again, primed the pen etc, needle in counted to 10 instead of 5 just to be on the safe side again. Once I took it out a little bit was running down my stomach. Has anyone had this or would it have been the little bit on the tip that they same is normal that's just ran down? Thanks 😊

Emas82 · 08/06/2025 14:27

Joining in, I've just filled out my first order, will await the next instructions. I've got about 5st to lose! Excited but apprehensive ☺️

Hi @Sunshin80, I did my second jab on Thursday and found a fair trickle came out if the needle afterwards rather than the single drop I seemed to have on the first jab. A couple of others on the thread found the same.

BrilliantineStickInsect · 08/06/2025 14:48

Joining this thread, I’ve got 2.5 stone to lose (probably 3 tbh but the 2.5 somehow feels less intimidating! 🤣). Just did my first injection at 12pm today, all went very well with following the instructions in the leaflet and watching the wee video I was sent. (I got mine from Asda Online Doctor). Feeling nervous about the side effects but just need to wait and see! 😬

polkadotpixie · 08/06/2025 14:54

W2D7 for me today and I’m injecting again later. I lost 4lbs this week which I’m really pleased with!

SW: 11st 3lbs
CW: 10st 12lbs
TW: 9st 3lbs

Total loss: 5lbs

Don't worry I was exactly the same as you! Week 2 on the jab now and really happy!

So it’s 3pm and I still haven’t eaten! First injection last night. This is so weird! I’m genuinely not hungry but my tummy is starting to rumble. Should I eat now even though I’m not at all hungry or just wait until I feel hungry? Part of me is terrified to eat in case it ‘breaks the spell’ sort of thing and all the food noise starts again. Any advice? Thanks

I would say try and eat something as it helps mitigate side effects. A few days ago I had hardly anything to eat, took the dog out and felt a bit lightheaded and queasy but had a small snack and felt fine again.

I’d eat now, don’t be tempted to starve yourself (tempting as it is). Part of this journey is eating a healthy diet 😊

ThisNeedsToWork · 08/06/2025 15:15

Thank you @IndigoBabble and @maddiemookins16mum. I will have some protein yoghurt and granola and keep my fingers crossed that I don’t break the magic!

It’ll be fine! I am on day 7 week one and this is the first day I have felt hungry! Looking forward to injecting my second dose tomorrow x

Definitely eat something. Need to see food as fuel, your body still needs food to survive, even without the hunger cues.
