Hi everyone!

I started MJ around this time last year, but due to costs and unforeseen family circumstances, I fell of the band wagon and took about 6 months off. I’m now a stone heavier than I was. I am back and ready to go again. First pen, back to 2.5mg, arriving tomorrow or Friday.

I found the last thread I was on very supportive so wondered if there’s a few people around who want to join me!

W1D5. I was very nervous starting but, thankfully, have only experienced some mild nausea.

I'm down 5lb so far. I'm only 5' 3" so my current weight looks a lot on me.

Starting weight: 11st 11
Current weight: 11st 6
Target weight: 10st

Morning!
w1d2 (or d3 if you count the evening I jabbed) and…I don’t think it’s having any effect.
poss feeling fuller for longer but not super obviously and nothing much else.
i ate 1200 cals of food yesterday which is my target but i think that was due to post jab motivation rather than actual medication effects.
then I went out with friends & happily drank 3 glasses of wine. Stopped then because that’s my known limit before things get messy, but I could have easily had more if I’d chosen too, no suppression, no sickness at the idea of alcohol.

RomanFruit · 07/06/2025 08:12

Morning! Just weighed myself at the end of week 1 - down 5lbs. 🎉 Feeling a bit of hunger, so looking forward to jab 2 this evening.

Really pleased with this week - understanding how hunger cues present/feel on the jab has been a bit of a learning curve, but no major side effects to speak of. I’d been worried about constipation, as a sufferer of IBS-C, but good old fibogel (as well as plenty of fruit/veg/water) seems to be working.

Does anyone know if week 2 is likely to be the same as week 1, or different because of a cumulative effect of earlier jabs?

maddiemookins16mum · 07/06/2025 08:15

Hi all, so after thinking I’d only lost a 1lb, turns out I’m 4lbs 2 ounces down since my first jab. Yay.

I am the same - jabbed on Wednesday afternoon so W1D4 and not sure how much is placebo effect - any effects are very subtle. But either way, it is helping me be much more controlled and detached in my attitude to food.

Xmasfairy86 · 07/06/2025 09:20

W1D7 - due 2nd jab tonight
Down 1.6kg (3.5lbs) - with a Chinese last night!
don’t know what I was expecting but that’ll do, if it can continue like that I’d be buzzing but I expect it will slow down at some point? No clue what pattern the weight loss goes in

Shwingbada · 07/06/2025 09:22

So far I have just been having smaller portions/fewer carbs/reduced snacks but I'm not sure how to tell if I'm in a calorie deficit. I am a bit mystified by how to count calories if just having food cooked at home (rather than a ready meal etc) or eating out in a cafe that's not a chain; how are you all doing it? Are you weighing everything? Any recommendations for apps to help with this would be great.
Thanks very much

BadgerFace · 07/06/2025 09:25

That’s good @maddiemookins16mum!

@Shwingbada I am tracking via My Fitness Pal and for home cooked foods I’m just guesstimating from entries on there. I might weigh for lunch at home just so I understand roughly what 30g/50g of houmous or cheese etc looks like.

Mynewusersame · 07/06/2025 09:31

I saw nutracheck recommended on another thread and have been really enjoying using it this week. You get 7 days free so you can try it out. Finding it much more intuitive than MyFitnessPal (it has pictures rather than just long lists of food) and the barcode reader works really well.

Shwingbada · 07/06/2025 09:32

Thanks @BadgerFace. I need to start doing that - I'm kind of working it out as I go along but would be useful to have a clearer idea of how much I eat and how to adjust it for a deficit. I have 2 stone to lose and I want to try to establish healthier habits/new lifestyle rather than see it as a diet as such.

dietstartstmoz · 07/06/2025 09:37

W1 D7
SW 16st 4lb
CW 15st 12lb
First weigh in for me and I have lost 6lbs. I'm really pleased with that. 2nd jab this evening.
I had very little appetite at the start of the week and struggled to eat for the first couple of days. The food noise, some hunger and urge to snack was coming back on days 5 & 6 so I did eat more on those days but tried to stay around 1500 cals. I have never ever lost 6lbs on any diet ever in a week. I actually think this is going to help me so much.

Shwingbada · 07/06/2025 09:38

I will have a look at Nutracheck too - thanks @Mynewusersame

ShesRunningOutTheDoor · 07/06/2025 09:41

W1D2 (jabbed Thursday Eve)
Still feeling hungry for meals but can’t eat much but weirdly then feel unsatisfied afterwards but don’t fancy eating anything. I was really good with my protein yesterday so going to try and keep that up
Again, effects subtle and could be placebo!

Eze · 07/06/2025 09:58

I’ve done my first jab this morning. My blood sugars are far too high so I’m hoping to get this more under control as well as lose weight. I have to achieve both each month to keep my prescription. I hope it works!

moremoremores · 07/06/2025 10:07

I'm coming to the end of wk 2. Had a much better diet vs wk 1 when I was due on eg no sugar cravings this week. Haven't managed much more than 1400 calories most days and have forced myself to eat some of that.

I've not weighed myself but have definitely lost some weight. I have had some mild headaches & weird knee pain in bed.

I'm a fellow crisp fiend and have had 1 packet in 2 wks. What's amazing is I can have 1 biscuit and feel completely satisfied and not fancy anymore.

moremoremores · 07/06/2025 10:09

I am using nutracheck. What electrolytes are people using?

I have bought some Freja bone broth as good collagen apparently.

Nerdippy · 07/06/2025 10:23

Can I please join this thread?

I have looked at this Mountjaro wonder drug for many months and finally plucked up the courage to go for it. My GP approved it as I am in the 'Obese' category although not got a massive amount to lose.

I have been going to Slimming World and have lost just over a stone, but have plateaued now for around six months so still have some way to go.

My first package is arriving today! Little bit worried about side effects to be honest.

However, reading the post from @UglyBastardFace (quoted below) is the reason I want to lose weight:

  1. I haven't lost weight so far in the 5 years I've been clinically obese, so any help is good.
  2. I asked my GP about possible side effects of WLI and he said "the actual side effects of obesity are far worse."
  3. if I remain obese I will almost certainly need medication for associated complications that carry their very own risk.

Ultimately I am trying to prolong my own life so I don't get diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease (all of which I am at risk of). These diseases are killers and if this injection helps, I will give it a go.

I'm 5' 2", BMI 30.7

SW 12 stone 13 lb
CW 11 stone 10 lb
GW 9 stone 10 lb

Best of luck to each and every one of us on this journey!

YourPerfectCousin · 07/06/2025 10:46

Second jab this morning - I was 8.5 lbs down from this time last week. Unbelievable.

I started HRT patches on the same day so I can't tell if sleeping for 11 hours solid is that or MJ. I've been using Fybrogel and chia seeds and according to MFP am 100% on the fibre but I might need to up it.

I worked out that I need to eat 1200 a day to be in a calorie deficit at the moment. I use the NHS weightloss app to log each meal. I can work out the calories in most meals by googling and even asking Alexa how many calories in a small banana etc. 1200 is quite low and I did struggle some days last week leading up to jab day. But last weekend I managed 3 days on less than 1200.

Shwingbada · 07/06/2025 11:09

I've been looking at myfitnesspal and Nutracheck - are they both always free unless you opt for a premium account? I'll probably go with MFP as it can link with my Garmin watch.

I had started to try to do intermittent fasting before starting MJ, but struggled with hunger. Wondering if it's worth doing now that hunger is suppressed, as presumably the benefits would still stand (although I do love breakfast). Is anyone else trying it?

RoryIslaNanny · 07/06/2025 11:14

Hello everyone. I did my second jab last night. Weighed myself this morning and I have lost 6 lb! I’m so happy.

I have only had mild side effects so far, which was a relief as I was concerned how bad they would be. I feel so optimistic about losing the weight now as the food noise has gone and my appetite is reduced.
good luck to you all - we can do this 💜

Tippgal · 07/06/2025 13:12

I’ve just ordered my first month…..I go on holiday on 18th…..should I wait to start when I return?

BadgerFace · 07/06/2025 13:36

@Shwingbada I’m mainly intermittent fasting. As I’m no longer snacking after dinner at 7pm and am not fussed about breakfast it’s been much easier than previous attempts! I can’t done it every day as some days I fancy a few nuts mid-morning but it’s definitely achievable.

I'd be tempted to wait if I'm honest.

RomanFruit · 07/06/2025 13:58

@Tippgal Is trying new restaurants / local cuisine a big part of holidays for you? If so, I'd probably wait - the jabs dull the joy of food and drinks for me!
