We’ve filled another thread already, with fantastic support as most of us reach week 3 or 4 and think about pen 2! Thread 3 now as we enjoy the unexpected early summer and move into our second month of Mounjaro, lighter in both scales and mood.

To be honest it’s not just lack of body confidence that holds me back from swimming… I just find it really awkward to be quite undressed and all wet and disheveled around loads of strangers. And I get cold easily so am usually shivering and blue within 10 mins 🤣

Lidlbitofmonica · 25/05/2025 16:25

I’ve never been a swimming pool fan, although really love a cold water dip - I find it a really body positive group of folk, plus it burns lots of energy just being in the water, and is a good de-stresser, would really recommend it.
I’ve joined a chain gym after a period doing some community classes, still trying to find my groove of when to go and what to do there, as it can be busy so makes anxious about what I’m doing abd where. Tried a couple of new classes this week though and trying a women’s lifting session this week, hopefully that helps!

PoisonIvy89 · 25/05/2025 16:47

well done @bridgetreilly @Crunchymum @Sallycinnamum

@violetmondays I've been looking at reformer pilates recently, is there a lot of on your knees stuff? the rest of the stuff looks good but I can't do anything with kneeling.

@Ricoletti yes this! even if I was slim and looked amazing in a swimsuit, I do not want to be near naked in public and it's all so awkward, the changing rooms, the showers, trying to peel off the wet swimsuit, dropping your clothes on the very gross floor with all the foot fungus and having to go commando for the rest of the day because there is absolutely no way I am putting on the underwear that has touched that floor 😂

toobusytoclean · 25/05/2025 19:22

Suggestions please. I’m meeting my eldest daughter for coffee tomorrow and she doesn’t know I’m jabbing. Last time we met I was only on 2.5mg, had a cappuccino and a pastry (summer social) and it made my blood sugars go weird so I felt dizzy and nauseous afterwards. How do I manage what I eat this time without appearing odd? I will get some water with the coffee straight away. However now I’m on 5mg I’m struggling to finish my usual morning tea, let alone a fancy coffee 😢
maybe a plain croissant rather than something filled with custard?

violetmondays · 25/05/2025 19:41

@toobusytoclean could you have breakfast before you go and then just have a coffee maybe? I would just have a protein yoghurt or something beforehand and maybe skip the croissant or if you really fancy one then maybe a plain one wouldn’t be sugary.

I just wouldn’t have anything to eat, just the coffee/herbal tea and tell her you’re trying to lose weight and get healthier. I bet she’ll be really proud of you!

Ricoletti · 25/05/2025 20:09

@toobusytoclean how about a macchiato? It’s like a flat while but much smaller, with a less milk/more espresso ratio. It’s my new ‘fancy coffee’ of choice as it’s not too big so I can manage a whole one without feeling like I’m sloshing my way out of the coffee shop 🤣

They might have flapjack or something that’s a bit less sugary to choose, if you feel you need a pastry/cake for appearances. You could explain that you have already eaten breakfast and take half of it home or share it?

I have been at my parents this weekend and my mam defo got suspicious that I didn’t tuck into the Prosecco and crisps as readily as I usually do. I just said I’m eating more healthily and trying to enjoy the things I like in moderation.

This was actually the first time I’ve eaten crisps (my beloved… my nemesis!!) since starting MJ. It felt weird being able to eat a few and not go rooting around for another bag !

cutthegraa · 25/05/2025 20:59

I'm pleased to say that the god awful affects from my first 5mg (Thursday) have eased. I woke up today feeling so so much better. But if I feel like this again after the next 5mg I'll have to consider what to do as this isn't sustainable!

Has anyone any ideas of programmes to follow to work on shifting your mindset around food as that's my worry when I do come off it. I already exercised etc but it's the food noise that's my enemy

Scousebloke · 25/05/2025 21:28

So i had my first 5mg jab last night after 5 shots at 2.5 mg. Now im not complaining because i know people have side effects much worse but wow these burps are something else. Ive had them the next day after every jab but double the dose has been double the extremity. Hope they feck right off soon.

TheSilentSister · 25/05/2025 23:19

@Scousebloke - same for me. It was horrible but glad to say it's worn off now.
@Crunchymum - Have you tried chair pilates? Very low impact exercise you can do at home after watching a few YouTube videos. I have a weak ankle from a previous fracture so can't do running/gym. Even walking too far/or too long causes me pain. I enjoy the YT videos, a lot out there.

Sunshineandpool · 26/05/2025 07:30

Good morning, gang!

Hope you are all doing ok? I have been on Mounjaro for a month! Feels like it has changed my life already!

Does anyone take Nutrition Geeks Collagen Glow up powder? Or something similar? What do you put it in? I put mine in coffee yesterday but it was so bitter I couldn't drink it!

Morning, Ihave it, I put it in my tea and honestly cant taste it.
Husband has started having it in his tea or coffee and he said no taste in his either.

Silly question but did you weigh it when putting it in. I ask because I remember reading that a lot of people were putting too much, ie using 2 tablespoons but the amount varied from use of spoon/heaped etc. (Wouldn't know if that would change the taste though).

I weighed mine out a few times and definitely would have put too much if I hadn't have checked as 1 tablespoon was almost the full amount.

Sheldon4k · 26/05/2025 07:53

@BonnieClydeSW15@PoisonIvy89@Ricoletti thanks for the input regarding my sons comments. I am sticking to my guns with the healthier stance. I have definitely been serving myself less than normal, I think occasionally the husband forgets and maybe adds a few mouthfuls too much on there for me.
Its not like im leaving half a plate or anything, its usually just a few bites which probably is what has caught his attention.

He has also started going to the gym and there have been a lot of conversations about eating the right foods etc, so along with that he does seem satisfied with my answer. If he asks or comments much more, like he is worried then I will be honest with him but I know he would start investigating and likely find the horror stories, not the good ones and then worry about the WLI itself.

GoGoGovy · 26/05/2025 10:49

Hello all.

I’ve kept a low profile over the last week as I was getting quite demoralised with the slow progress - I was actually putting on weight during week 3! No idea how, as I track my calories on nutracheck and I’ve definitely been calorie deficient.

So, anyway…I took the 0.5mg (Wegovy) jab for my 4th jab. I did check the pharmacy q&a’s and although they don’t recommend it, they did say you could take the higher dose a week earlier. So far, the side effects have been ok. The worst se is acid reflux and burping. The scales have finally started to move and I have now lost 5lbs in 3.5 weeks. Still slow progress, but at least it’s something. I think my wegovy journey is going to be slightly different from your Mounjaro one. Still undecided on whether to swap.

BTW. I don’t suggest anyone should up their dose prematurely or without the pharmacists consent. I just wanted to give you an update on my (slow) progress.

Now to read up on the pages I have missed. It sounds like you are all doing really well👍

Coventree · 26/05/2025 11:12

@Sunshineandpool I have the ancient + brave true collagen and add a tsp to my overnight oats or Greek yoghurt and fruit etc. Not tried it direct in coffee…not sure why but the thought of it doesn’t really appeal! I also have their hot chocolate with collagen but haven’t fancied that recently.

@Sheldon4k I definitely think smaller portions of healthy food is the way to go - for me and for my kids to see what that looks like (they know I’m taking medication in the form of injections to help me be more healthy but haven’t asked much more about it, aged 13 and 9). I can see my daughter’s going to follow in my build, although she’s very active now, so the more I can model good food behaviour, I hope it will help her in the long run. Last night we all had lamb koftas, salad leaves, tomato and mozzarella, then they had some veg rice and a couple of pieces of garlic bread, which feels a good way to approach it…but appreciate every family set up is different.

@GoGoGovy glad to hear things are moving in the right direction now - I upped my last 2 weeks of my first pen as zero effects, but it wasn’t until I went to the next full dose up last week that anything kicked in.

GoGoGovy · 26/05/2025 11:17

@Coventree that gives me hope. Thanks

Coventree · 26/05/2025 11:21

@Crunchymum I haven’t actually done any of the exercises yet 😬 so this isn’t a recommendation as such, but I’ve downloaded an app called LazyFit (awful name which very nearly put me off), which looks to have a number of stretching and movement exercises you can do from a chair. I’ve got an issue with my knee and an MRI has shown tears and fluid in the joint (seeing a specialist in 2 weeks time) so a lot of ‘normal’ exercise isn’t advised at the moment, and we don’t have a swimming pool that’s easily accessible/affordable. Might it be worth looking at something like that app for your circumstances?

Crunchymum · 26/05/2025 11:35

Much appreciate all the exercise recommendations. Will check them all out.

I don't seem to be losing at a rapid rate (mores the pity) but I'm definitely looking to add some exercise in sooner rather than later.

Sorry to hear there are others like myself who have mobility / illness / injuries that prevent conventional exercise.

Am off to a family party later, not even managed breakfast yet but hoping I don't get tempted by yummy party foods!

Brunocatmon · 26/05/2025 11:49

Good morning campers. Hope youre having a lovely bank holiday. I'm at work until 6, yay.

I've been working the weekend so I haven't read all the recent posts but massive congratulations to all the losses, nsv and clothes fitting better. Go us.

Wk5 day1 today I've stayed on 2.5 for the next month, the suppression is working so no need to mess about with it imo.

I lost 2lb last week. Since the 16th may, I've lost 5lb 5. I have a very active job, I train ( classes and boxing 3 times a week ) and I'm on 1000 cals a day. I struggle to eat that if I'm honest, the need or desire for food is just not there.

I have very low energy today, what can I eat? What's everyone doing for an energy boost?

Ricoletti · 26/05/2025 11:57

Happy bank holiday all.

took my second 5ml last night. Bit of a headache today but think I need to drink more, am on it!

scales say I’ve gained 1lb overnight 🤷🏻‍♀️… but I did have 2 glasses Prosecco and some crisps at weekend , and am due my period so maybe the combo = water retention?

still at 1 stone loss, but feel my body is getting slimmer… I don’t measure (intentionally) so just going my how clothes feel etc.

5ml is working fine, appetite isn’t as suppressed as in first 3 weeks of MJ but this is a good thing as I was barely able to eat. Now I feel hungry for meals and am able to enjoy a small portion of food, and still wanting to make good choices/ no food noise or snacking.

No unmanageable effects to speak of.. constipation is now easing and I’m in the groove of how to keep this in check.

Todays exercise will be heavy duty housework/spring cleaning 🥳

Zebracat · 26/05/2025 12:08

The scales are bouncing around for me right now. I’m trying to eat a bit more as a gout prevention method, drinking lots more and very constipated, so I really don’t know how it’s going. I felt really hungry this morning and thought here we go, sliding down the slippery slope. But then I remembered I had a modest roast dinner at lunchtime yesterday, and also pudding, but didnt eat again, so of course I was hungry by 9 am.

I used my measuring spoons and did 2 flat tablespoons like it said on the pack. So you're only putting one tablespoon in your coffee?

I go to David Lloyds - it has revolutionised my swimming experience. Not crowded, nice and warm, nice showers and changing room. Can sit by the outdoor pool or go in the spa after a swim dependant on the weather.

5lbs in 3.5 weeks is really good - well done! There is much more to weight loss than calories in/calories out so a calorie deficit isn't the be all and end all like some would make you think. Our weight is affected by hormones and water and minerals and much more. If you wanted to try a different method - I use the plate model. I try to have 50% lean protein, 30% non-starchy vegetables, 20% high fibre carbohydrates and a small amount of healthy fats.
