We’ve filled another thread already, with fantastic support as most of us reach week 3 or 4 and think about pen 2! Thread 3 now as we enjoy the unexpected early summer and move into our second month of Mounjaro, lighter in both scales and mood.

@Sheldon4k Kids are quite perceptive when we don’t want them to be! But it’s a good thing to be honest if you can and it is the truth that you are stopping eating when you are full because you’re trying to be more healthy. If you are confident in what you say then your kids will accept that and see what you are doing as positive even if they don’t know the full story. You are getting healthier for you and for them!
For everyone who is worried about what happens when you go up to 5mg - don’t! We will all have different experiences, good and bad, and just being able to talk about them here makes them easier to cope with! 😁💪

PoisonIvy89 · 24/05/2025 20:42

@Sheldon4k Your explanation of trying to be mindful of stopping when you are full was good, that might be enough for them. It's sweet that they've noticed but of course you don't want them to be worried about you. I think I would maybe put less on your plate so the leftovers are less noticeable and just explain that you are trying to lose weight and that means smaller portions and more exercise, use the opportunity to discuss nutrition and healthy choices

@ellieinfrance I use collagen powder from protein works, per serving it's 54 calories 13g protein, I like the fruit flavours but there is also an unflavoured one, they do a collagen coffee too but I haven't tried that yet. I also use vegan protein powder. For electrolytes I use Vidrate. For supplements I take Iron Bisgycinate, Triple Magnesium, Vit B Complex, Vit D3 + K2. I have purchased but not started yet, super greens powder and biotin - I bought that one before realising there's already biotin in the B complex. I think that's everything.

5mg jab Wednesday night. Felt really tired and queasy Thursday and Friday, but slightly better today and managed a small portion of spaghetti Bol for dinner. A bit of indigestion now but ok to go to bed. It makes sense for the body to react to a doubled dose and I feel like I’m past the worst of it now. Hopefully reaction will be less when I jab again this Wednesday. I’m a teacher and it’s half term so I’m ok if I do feel a little off again.
Definitely back to good suppression and no food noise, unlike the final 10 days of 2.5mg
im not very clued up when it comes to supplements- what is the collagen for?

TheSilentSister · 24/05/2025 22:40

Took my first 5mg dose today. 7lbs off over the last month. Like @Crunchymum I haven't been doing my measurements but will start now.
My stomach has definitely shrunk. I got 2 pre-cooked chicken legs earlier and sat in the car to eat them as felt really hungry. I ate one and felt satisfied. Tried the second and just couldn't eat it. Before I could have ate a whole chicken, lol.
Looking forward to this 2nd month and continued weight loss.

On reflection, I'm glad I'm not having big losses, as I'm older (57) and my skin wouldn't recover.

PoisonIvy89 · 24/05/2025 22:54

@toobusytoclean It's a type of protein, it's good for things like skin, hair, nails, joint pain. When your natural collagen declines as you age it causes things like wrinkles and sagging and skin loses elasticity so you'll see a lot of people in the weight loss community taking it in the hope that it helps the loose skin issues, it's also popular with women of menopause age as it can help with bone density

W4D3 and I have now officially lost my first stone! 15.5 pounds, in fact.

Can’t quite believe it, tbh, except that all my clothes fit better now (well, apart from the ones which are too big!)

Scousebloke · 25/05/2025 08:25

@bridgetreilly congrats on the weight loss. Brilliant.

StartingApril2025 · 25/05/2025 08:38

Well done to everyone on losses over last few days , Great to hear at the progress ! I regret staying on 2.5mg, injected on Friday and so hungry all day yesterday and woke up this morning very hungry too-first real hunger feeling in a month! As I get my dose through a gp I don’t think I can get another before the month is up. I’m now contemplating ordering syringes/needles and getting the extra out of the pen Iv just finished and trying to get a 3.75 dose,( could I just top myself up for this week?!) not sure basically if what’s lift in last months pen plus this months 2.5mg doses with added end bit would be enough for 3 x3.75mg doses? Anyone any idea of how to work it out?!

Crunchymum · 25/05/2025 08:58

@bridgetreilly welcome to the 1st club.

Hope to join you guys at some point (I'm 10.5lbs down so hopefully in a few weeks 🙏)

I'm still in denial this is actually going to work for me.... and I've got quite a bit to lose but I want to look at some strength training as I don't want to lose weight and end up with another problem (saggy skin)

I have an autoimmune arthritis though so I'm very limited in my ability to exercise and I'm way too ashamed to go swimming.

Scousebloke · 25/05/2025 10:01

@Crunchymum it WILL work for you. You got this.

Seahawk80 · 25/05/2025 10:06

@Crunchymumplease don’t be ashamed! When I go running I always feel like I’m so slow and loads of skinny people overtake me but I’m doing my best. Can you go swimming on a weekday? I used to go when pregnant on a Thursday when my oldest was at school around 10am and it was very quiet with people of all shapes and sizes, this was my local pool rather than a gym.

I know that nobody really cares about seeing me in a swimming cossie but all 3 of my kids swim at the local pool and have done for years (at different times with different teachers) so I feel like I "know" everyone there iyswim? So much easier to not give a shite when you don't know anyone.

I definitely need to do something though.

I will post on my arthritis group chat to see if anyone can recommend some suitable things I can do at home. Currently I'm well but I can and have been very poorly and immobile 😪 so have to find something I can actually manage.

Crunchymum · 25/05/2025 10:15

Anyway sorry for the moan and self pity!!

If I'm 10.5lbs down and feeling like MJ isn't really working then I'll be flying (hopefully) when I do find the dose that works 😀

Ricoletti · 25/05/2025 10:20

@Sheldon4k I’ve got 2 older teens and I have told them I’m jabbing, only wife knows.

Ive been putting less in my plate so I’m not leaving loads, so I think that helps with the curiosity.
I’ve told son (17) that I’m trying to eat more protein and eat well for my health , he gets it as is also doing same.

daughter (15) has noticed I’m not eating crisps/junk with her, and I’ve said I’m trying to eat more healthily and she’s up for that. I makes fruit platters as well as still getting her some sweets (Fridays are great days in our house) and she’s happy with that, as she loves fruit.

made me realise that my own eating habits really affect them, and I have been giving them junk because I want it!

Sallycinnamum · 25/05/2025 10:21

Morning all.

W5D2 and I am 2lbs off my first stone. Current weight is 10 stone 11lbs so I think if I continue for another 7 weeks I should get into the lower 10s.

I've just realised that I've not been priming my last few jabs! Must've completely forgotten but not sure if it makes much difference so will remember that on Friday when I usually inject.

I said to DH yesterday that I wasn't sure 2.5mg is working still but it clearly is although I am making wise food choices. So I haven't touched booze since I started because of the empty calories.

I am eating lightly and do feel full quite quickly but I am in the 'zone' now and haven't spend the last 8yrs trying to shift this bloody weight I am determined not to fuck it up!

Meant HAVE NOT told my teens 🙃

Ricoletti · 25/05/2025 10:38

@Crunchymum I totally hear you on the swimming ! I can’t imagine anything worse than me waddling around the side of a pool, cold and half naked in a skintight , crotch strangling one piece 🫣

Ive gone to ladies only sessions once or twice over the years, but they are hard to find and I’ve come to the conclusion that apart from the actual ‘swimming’ bit (as long as the water is warm), I hate everything about ‘going swimming’ so have given up trying !

I like a nice gentle walk and am considering some beginners yoga in a friendly local class (for women of all ages and abilities)

Zebracat · 25/05/2025 11:29

I feel sad that people feel too self conscious to swim. I have swum regularly despite being obese, but I’ve really ramped it up since starting mounjaro, I go most days to laned swims, sometimes to women only, and nobody cares what size you are.One woman goes daily and she’s lost 10 stone. She has very severe arthritis but the swimming has kept her out of a wheelchair. Get a good swimsuit in the right size, wear easy clothes and build up gradually. It’s really good for my body,( even at 17 stone, I was quite toned), but the main benefits are to my mental health. I feel calm, refreshed and centred. Starting exercise can lead to injury, but in the water, our bodies are supported.

Seahawk80 · 25/05/2025 13:38

@Crunchymum ah yes I can imagine it feels different if you know everyone! Nothing worse than
someone stopping for a chat while you are dashing from the changing rooms to the pool! I’m going swimming tomorrow but with DS 7 and 3 so don’t think I I’ll get to do much myself. Just all the bad parts x 3 ha ha!

Realised I am eating out every day this BH weekend so trying to make healthy choices! Yesterday I had chicken skewer with Greek salad and tzatziki and left some bread which is unheard of for me! Pre MJ I also would have got some chips for the table as well!

toobusytoclean · 25/05/2025 13:52

@Crunchymum are there any Aqua Fit/Aqua Aerobics classes at you local pool? I do these classes 3 x a week and they are really popular with women (and the occasional man) or all ages and shapes.
they are fun, and I can do so much more in water than I can on land due to my arthritis in my foot and hip. Since starting MJ I have also taken up yoga, just the really gentle Yin Yoga but is helping with gentle body weight strength exercise as well as relaxation.
@bridgetreilly that was a really interesting article and makes so much sense that MJ is changing how our bodies use fat, not just the gut slowing and reduced food noise. Motivates me to keep exercising 😊

violetmondays · 25/05/2025 14:17

So the food festival…. It was fun, there was loads of lovely food on offer but I actually didn’t want any of it. Normally I would be tempted by the cakes and pastries (fresh pastel de nata!) and the bbq stalls but as predicted, there was nothing healthy at all really so I had a few mouthfuls of my daughter’s bbq meat and chips and then my banana and left it at that - I actually felt pretty satisfied after that and didn’t even get tempted by the ice cream that my family all ate afterwards. Then I had a proper dinner in the evening. I felt like I was winning.

Regarding exercise - I recently started doing Reformer Pilates for strength and it’s so hard but feel so good. The nice thing is I don’t feel like a big sweaty mess when I come out but my muscles really feel tired so I know it’s working. I also do ballet and tap dancing once a week and I’m planning to bring in some home weights sessions as well.

@Crunchymum I feel the same about swimming. Thankfully, both my children are old enough for me not to have to get in the pool these days and the only time I will wear swimwear is on holiday or a rare spa day.

How are people getting on with the 5mg? I feel ok on 3mg this week so far (day 3), a little tired but not thinking about food too much so will probably still just go up to 3.75 next jab as planned.

I didn't prime the first pen at all. So x4 jabs of 2.5mg.

I just completely missed that part of the instruction manual.

No dire consequences, although I didn't feel much on 2.5mg at all (week 3 was the worst, I felt hungry and deprived all week!)

Edited to congratulate you on your loss so far.

Sallycinnamum · 25/05/2025 14:53

Yeah I don't know how essential the priming is but at least I know now!

Can thoroughly recommend yoga. I go to a restore yoga class every Saturday at my local sports centre and for the first time in 5 years I have very little back pain and I feel wonderful after every session.

It's a gentle form of yoga rather than power yoga where you really have to work at it and contort yourself into different poses!

Ricoletti · 25/05/2025 15:26

@toobusytoclean good tip re aqua fit! I might see if there is a ladies aqua fit session at a pool near me… brave the costume 🙌🏻
