New thread for all of us.
Thank you for allowing me to rant, share our ups and downs. Our group blows my mind of how we are so supportive of each other.

Some of us are now hitting the 12 week mark, some of us are nearly at their goal, some halfway and some still have a way to go, but we are all losing even if it’s half a pound a week. We have all come so far and are making a difference to our health.

@Amjam2025 off dairy yoghurt is the WORST. I'd be pretty certain it was that. I also suspect that slower emptying of the stomach due to MJ might make the puking more dramatic in this kind of situation. As more of the the dodgy stuff is still in there when otherwise it would have moved on, and your body just wants rid of it.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 16/05/2025 16:50

@seasidehunter I gained 1.5 St the year I started walking, I do at least 13k steps a day without going fir a walk, and walk up to 20 miles at weekends, with a couple of short walks in the week. People are clueless.

I’ve had so many people say to me ‘you don’t look like you could run a marathon’… I think that translates as ‘how are you chubby if you run marathons’ and/or ‘I assumed you were chubby because you’re unfit and like sitting on the sofa’ 🙄

Ingangoolie · 16/05/2025 17:09

@TheBossOfMe curious about having an electrolyte drink am before exercise when doing 16:8 or 18:6. Does this not break the fast and trigger the grelin/hunger hormone? I have done a less strict IF with Mounjaro but was also getting a bit lightheaded with exercise first thing so feel the need for at least milk in coffee now. In the past I religiously stuck to water, black coffee when fasting. I want to continue with exercise in the morning during fast. How do you see it going?

Ladies I have lost my shit on that thread.

This is what I wrote.

I can’t decide if you are a troll or an idiot.
I was a size 6-8 for many years I was the person that slipped back into their size 8 jeans a day after giving birth. I never had an issue with my weight.
I worked out, went for 10k runs for fun.
I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland, my Mum suddenly become ill, needing round the clock care, I was working full time, with a husband running his own business, 4 kids. I cared for my Mum in the evenings so my Dad got a break.
My MIL then died and 6 months later my Mum, then 2 of my children developed life changing illnesses. One was in hospital for 6 months. I was still working full time in a stressful job all through this, exercise really was not at the top of my list.
Then peri hit me, as well as anxiety and probably depression. I could not shift the weight and I mean I did everything the longer I stayed over weight the less I could actually do, nothing would shift the weight starving myself, exercise and guess what not did playing fucking golf.
Tell me where my use of Mounrajo is cheating, I was diagnosed with insulin resistance and it’s the only thing that is working for me now in my late 40’s.
I had over 40 years of being skinny and becoming fat was not a choice.
I suggest you cycle out of this thread with your bull 💩

Someone told me that it's a case of using logic and to choose an apple instead of chocolate...if only it was that easy 😂

I've just joined you on that thread @TheSpoonyNavyReader

@Ingangoolie - re triggering hunger, it doesn't for me, providing I take an unflavoured one (the only time I use sachet ones rather than the cheap tablet ones I take the rest of the time). And whilst technically it does break the fast from a science perspective, it doesn't seem to impact my weight loss at all. Probably because it gives me a tiny bit of fuel to then burn calories on a run.

Flamethrowers · 16/05/2025 17:40

Excellent response! You have a story that echoes with a fair few of us here - the shitstorm of middle age when you’re caring for/mourning parents whilst dealing with kids and jobs and life….and boom… perimenopause hits! We didn't choose it to work out this way!

Puddingpiper · 16/05/2025 17:52

@Amjam2025from that thread I saw a lot of confusion as to why when they went back to living their overweight life they went back to being overweight. I suppose it comes back to if you always do what you always did you will always get what you always had.

my partner is also on WLI and is currently driving me mad as he is still snacking on bread and butter, biscuits and shite but because he drinking protein shakes it is fine 🙈 he is still losing weight as he is just eating smaller amounts of junk and zero meals.

I already chipped in once but I had to go back.

She is a right piece of work.

TheBossOfMe · 16/05/2025 18:06

@Puddingpiper "when they went back to living their overweight life they went back to being overweight". Exactly that. Eating smaller amounts of shite is still eating shite.

@TheSpoonyNavyReader You nailed it about why some of us gain at certain life stages - as I said upthread, I had a perfect storm of difficult life circumstances.

Puddingpiper · 16/05/2025 18:10

@TheBossOfMeim trying to find ways to fill the void. My slim life was dictated by a sport I can’t do anymore which took up about 3 hours daily. Compounded by a love of cooking. One of the kids asked me last week about my hobbies the only one I could think of was mum taxi 🙈😂

Your comment of magical golf cracked me up.

That poster has no idea but I played golf to a high standard. I might just dust my clubs off as I have not played for 4 years after my Mum become ill and only died to years ago, and then both of my sons became ill.

TheBossOfMe · 16/05/2025 18:45

@Puddingpiper Yeah I know exactly what you mean on lots of fronts. I used to run a lot more than I'll ever be able to do again (too high a risk of triggering my injury again, which almost definitely won't be fixable a third time), so that's a lot of hours that used to be taken up by that, as well as all the conditioning I used to do to be able to run. I'm trying to replace some of those hours with lower impact things like Peloton, but it doesn't give me the same dopamine hit.

I love cooking - food is an actual hobby for me 😂Fortunately I can still really enjoy cooking great food, just eat a much smaller portion size, with a lot more protein and veg vs the carb heavy meals I used to do a lot of (I swear to god I have an Asian gene that makes me inhale rice!).

But now that DD is older and doesn't need quite as much of my time on ferrying her around, I need something else to fill that void as well. At the moment, I'm filling it with work, which isn't good.

@TheSpoonyNavyReader You sound like life has thrown a lot at you over the last few years. Kudos to you for dealing with it all.

This will be totally outing for anyone who knows this story, but many years ago I was lucky enough to get a golf lesson in La Manga with Seve Ballesteros as part of a work jolly. After a couple of futile hours on the driving range and practice holes, he told me golf wasn't my game! So we played tennis all afternoon instead 😂

Which does remind me that I used to love tennis. Maybe I should buy a racket and see if there's a local club around here (Central London so probably a stupidly spendy idea). Get those golf clubs dusted off, Spoony. My DP plays golf really well - I don't play with him, obvs, but I do love going round the course with him as a sort of caddy. Well, a caddy that knows nothing about golf, anyway!

Ingangoolie · 16/05/2025 19:06

@TheSpoonyNavyReader good to let off steam and might prompt some learning.

@TheBossOfMe thanks that makes sense, I’ll look for some unflavoured electrolytes.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 16/05/2025 20:58

Re maintainance , i started MJ with the intention of using it to get a kick start, for maybe 3 months. Financially, it's a stretch when every spare penny is heading to my solicitor (longest running divorce ever I think) I have my 3rd pen ready to start in a week. I was still on my first pen when I realised that I was going to carry on for as long as it takes. I'm saving money on MJ and it's made me realise that I need to prioritise myself and my health.

I have drastically overhauled my diet on MJ. I've barely touched chocolate, cake, biscuits, crisps. I've cut snacking out almost completely, when I do, it's nutritious. I've gone from a problematic wine habit (5 to 7 bottles a WEEK). to less than 1 a week.

I haven't yet started exercise proper but I am pretty active. I'm hoping that these new food habits will stick and I will feel SO much better that I'll have the discipline to maintain post MJ.

soupforbrains · 16/05/2025 21:02

I do worry about weight regain, but it’s not something I think is going to happen. In the sense that I am sure when I eventually come off I will gain a little but the weight I am carrying has not been a sudden or recent gain. I have spent more than 4 years stable at this weight, so I feel I know what to do to maintain a steady weight. It’s natural to gain a little when you stop any kind of ‘regime’ be it a diet, injections or other weight loss plan. But I am going to be continuing to weigh daily and given that I will be losing more than 8 stone if I was to put that al back on within a year it would have to be actual insanity.

and like @Flamethrowers
and @TheBossOfMei plan to taper my dosage once I am at goal.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 17/05/2025 08:37

Unwanted side effect. Bloody periods! (Parden the pun...) I hadn't had a period for 8 months before starting MJ. I had an endometrial ablation a few years ago, which could have stopped all periods but of course I was one of the lucky ones that didn't happen for. They have been tailing off though and I'd had none at all. Had a few days of light bleeding last month, and now an actual proper period. I'm not OK!

soupforbrains · 17/05/2025 09:19

Well… I guess I must have done ok with my food choices in all the eating out in the first half of the week! I think because it felt like I was eating loads because I ate to the point where it was uncomfortable fullness which I don’t general eat to these days.

week 11 weigh in
loss this week -3lb
SW: 19st 10lb
CW: 17st 7lb
GW: 11st 7lb

I’m very happy with the loss this week. I’d be super happy with a 3lb loss in any week tbh but in a week where I was away with work and eating out with others for all meals I’m even more happy.
also I am premenstrual currently and this is usually the stage in the month where I don’t lose at all or even gain a little!

Hope everyone has lovely weekend plans.

Aboutmeabouttime · 17/05/2025 09:26

Weigh in for me - 2lbs off and CW 11st 12!
Not seem 11st in many a year so feeling super happy about that! Sights set on 2st loss goal which is now 5lbs away 🎯

Happy weekend all! Hope every is feeling well.

TheBossOfMe · 17/05/2025 09:33

Morning lovely people, hope you're all looking forward to a lovely weekend.

@soupforbrains Same here re maintaining - if I look at MFP, all of my weight went on between Dec 22 and Nov 23. Since then, I've just bounced up and down 2 or 3 pounds until starting MJ, so I'm really confident that I know how to maintain once I get to goal. I'm going to pop a couple of pounds in the bank to allow for a small gain as I taper down, but that's OK.

Daily weighing needs to be another behavioural change - I stopped doing it in Dec 22, because I knew I was gaining (denial is easy when you don't see the numbers in front of you). And didn't start again until Nov 23 - that was a shock when I stood on the scales and realised just how much I'd put on in a little under a year. I need to make sure I don't hide from the truth again - some people think it's a little disordered to track weight obsessively, but I know that for me it's another important tool in the toolbox.

@Illbefinejustbloodyfine Long and very expensive divorce here as well! And ridiculous periods on MJ. Last one was weeks long, and I've just ovulated again, ahead of schedule. Grr.

I've realised that 7.5 is probably too high a dose for me. SEs are still minimal, but I feel uncomfortably full on it for a lot of the week, which isn't the goal for me, I want to still feel able to eat decent balanced meals, and to enjoy them. Today I feel like I feel after a huge blowout meal - I know that will taper off towards the end of the week, but it feels like I'm going to have to force food in for a bit, which isn't good. Plus doing exercise with this feeling is hard - like running on a full stomach, which I hate doing. So I think for my next jab I'm going to count clicks and go down to 6.25. Over suppression isn't what I want.

I'm away again tonight and tomorrow night - hotel stay this time, so again lots of eating out, but I'll be walking a lot as well, and I've looked at menus so think I'll be ok. It won't be the blowout of the last bank holiday weekend, so hopefully not another 1.5lb gain, especially since I've got a decent loss so far this week in the bank to mitigate some of this weekend. Maybe I should eat at Hakkasan more often, because it seems to have kickstarted weightloss again!

SW 10st 4.6lb/144.6lb BMI 25.7 (prescribed MJ because of diabetes risk and hideous waist measurement)
CW 9st 0.1blb/126.1lb BMI 22.3 - 18.5lb down, 81.9% of target achieved.
GW 8st 10lb/122lb (22.6lb total target loss, 4.1lb to go) BMI 21.6

Loss by week:
W1 (2.5) 5.5lb
W2 (2.5) 1.3lb
W3 (2.5) 0.7lb (ate out loads)
W4 (5) 3.3lb
W5 (5) 0.5lb gain (ate out loads)
W6 (5) 3.8lb (Post Easter weekend plus period)
W7 (5) 2.6lb
W8 (5) 1.5lb gain (BH weekend away, ate out loads)
W9 (7.5) 1.1lb
W10 (7.5) 2.2 lb so far

soupforbrains · 17/05/2025 09:43

Also. I know I’m a lot bigger than most in here. But this week my bmi has come below 40 for the first time in forever. So now the NHS classes me as being ‘obese’ instead of ‘morbidly obese’ so yay!

TheBossOfMe · 17/05/2025 09:54

@soupforbrains That is brilliant! Well done!
