Thought I'd kick start a new thread for this oh so supportive little group, as the last thread was reaching it's limit.

@Doggymummar how long have you been on 15 mg? I have been on 12.5 mg for about 10 weeks now but definitely feel as though suppression is far less for me than it was.

It was February I think, I started in September so that would be about right. I don't notice any difference in suppression I don't think. But I didn't stay on the others long enough for it to wane. I never get hungry until the day before by jab is due but that was the same on each dose. I just went up because that's what the prescriber I was with did each month.

Weigh & jab day today. Week 5, and another 2lb off, 1st 8lb so far. Now I've dared let myself believe I can really do this, I've set myself a few mini targets. The first one being to get into the teens. I'm going to a concert in 5 weeks time, and would love to do it by then, but if not, I know I'll at least be much closer than I have been for a very long time

SW 22st 8lb
CW 21st
Interim TW 19st anything
GW no idea yet

I'm moving up from 2.5 today, and am dithering whether to do 3.75 or 5. I've been really lucky so far with absolutely no side effects, but the thought of doubling the dose is a bit daunting. What did everyone else do?

Doggymummar · 09/05/2025 08:33

Went to 5mg, for me (autism) it's important to follow directions to the letter. My brain won't let me deviate

BMI is pointless, even more pointless on the NHS calculator as they’ve stopped asking your sex, because of the gender identity stuff. I use the British Heart Foundation and on that mine has gone from 53 to 47.5 (I’m almost on their diagram!). Apparently my healthy weight is 7st 7 - 10st 4 which is so wrong it’s hilarious. The last time I was 10st anything I was about 24 and limited my food constantly. The last time I was 7st 7 I was probably around 7 🙄. I’m 5’4 and aiming for a size 16 and I think that will be around 11st 7 and that’s BMI 27.6 which would be absolutely fantastic from where I am now. I’d never given my boobs consideration - I have huge boobs, even when much slimmer - so if they try to ration my healthcare then I’ll suggest they weigh them separately, subtract from my weight and that’ll bring me to the normal weight range 😂

They are rationing healthcare already. I have osteoarthritis in most of my joints, severe in some and my GP apologised that she was unable to refer me to orthopaedics as they won’t accept referrals for anyone with a BMI over 35 I think it was. Not even for advice and maybe injections? No she said, they won’t accept the referral. This is in Lancashire. I understand why they wouldn’t want to operate on my knee at my current weight, but I really don’t understand why they can’t give advice, help, drugs, injections etc. Remarkably Mounjaro seems to have, not cured it, but reduced my pain by around 75%.

Edited

That makes me furious @Kay2000 - fat people pay taxes too! It's bad enough that literally everything that's wrong with us is put down to weight. 'Oh, your arm's fallen off, you say? Have you tried losing a few pounds?' But to be refused help because of it is outrageous. As you say, I can understand with surgery, but anything at all? Horrifying. Glad the MJ has helped though.

I just went for it last week 😊 I’ve had awful side effects anyway so thought it can’t get any worse. Do what you think is right for you x

eibbed999 · 09/05/2025 08:44

7th weigh in/8th jab for me today. Another 2lb off, and still effortless. God I love this drug. @LordJohnGrey @Billybingbong I have been on the 2.5mg for all of mine, so 8 so far including today. Everyone is different, but for me it is still working extremely well at 2.5mg - I don't want to lose more than 2lbs a week (well, the sensible part of me doesn't!) and that's what I'm currently at. No side effects, and so far the perfect level of suppression. I have got a 5mg pen though, just in case that changes, and I give myself a half dose. I have a long way to go so don't want to rush through the doses while it's working perfectly well here - but it is completely different for each of us, I suppose you have to listen to your body!

Hoping to sneak into the 'teens' next week...

1st weigh and 2nd jab day for me yesterday.
SW 18st 13lb
CW 18st 7lb
Height 5'6.
So I lost 6lb this week which is good I think?! I've luckily had no SE, apart from the day I went to Bills 🙄

I'm still feeling hungry, and I don't feel like the food noise has totally disappeared but I'm just not able to eat as much as I used to, so I guess it's working?!

Kay2000 · 09/05/2025 08:48

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 08/05/2025 17:11

'Sorry Mrs Miggins, we won't operate on your dodgy elbow because your BMI is 29'. Followed by some mumbling about 'outcomes'.

There is an element of that with some doctors, certainly.

I'm 68 now and I was referred for gastric ulcer surgery in 2019. The doctor told me I had to get down to 10st (I was over 20st at the time) before she'd consider me for a GA.

It goes without saying that I failed to do this, and then the pandemic came.

I felt so judged. It was horrible.

I think if that doctor saw me now, she wouldn't want me to get to 10st. I mean, my clothes are size 12 now, so I don't look overweight anymore.

That's just because of Mounjaro.

I just wanted to say that about the general anaesthetic. I had gynae issues, nothing life threatening, but I was still given a GA several times at 21st+ in 2018/19 (age 50). I remember asking the anaesthetist about my weight and it was dismissed as fine, they operate on larger bodies I was told. So it’s nonsense to say no operation due to being 20st as long as there are no other big risk factors.

eibbed999 · 09/05/2025 09:12

Last August, when I shattered my ankle, I needed an initial emergency surgery to have plates and pins fitted, and then a follow up surgery because the first one wasn't up to scratch. I was about 22 stone 7lbs at the time. My anaesthetist in both cases was very reassuring, and told me the only real danger is when people lie about their weight to make themselves sound smaller, because then it can throw off the calculations! In fairness, within the the emergency medicine arena and also with my physio since, nobody has blamed my weight - apart from me of course! It was having to get weighed for a dexa scan that really made me think 'come on now, this is getting silly...' That all said, even though I was super-duper obese, I was also pretty active and had good BP etc.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 09/05/2025 10:11

I’m now on 15mg @Motnight had my 2nd dose today, I had two 12.5mg pens, so 10 weeks on 12.5 before moving up, it’s definitely a different beast, to the point I’d forgotten it was jab day today!

@LordJohnGrey its really hard to judge if you need to move up or not because of ordering in advance. I went with the recommendations at the time and moved up as advised until I got to 7.5mg, then ordered a second 7.5mg and instantly regretted it so ended up doing the extra clicks to make it up to 10mg. I had two 12.5 mg pens and am now on 15 and will stay on this dose for the foreseeable future. The studies show that people consistently lost on 15mg so I’m not worried when I read the ‘there’s no where to go after 15mg’ on social media. I should add that I’ve had no issues with side effects apart from constipation.

@Billybingbong I just went for it and straight to 5mg, I was the same as you, no side effects- good luck!

AlicesMum2025 · 09/05/2025 10:31

Hi everyone, just did my 2nd jab last night. Few SEs so far and lost 3.3kg/~7lbs week 1. I know this loss rate won't continue but it is a motivational boost.

I would like more suppression as I felt hungry days 4-5, although less so days 6-7. I have been feeling fuller more quickly so that's great. I'm not a big snacker generally so can't comment on that; portion size is my main problem.

I'm not comfortable sharing my SW yet but overall I need to lose 50% of my body weight. For now though, 10% is the target and I've made a debt in that so I'm happy.

peppercornrent · 09/05/2025 11:33

Today is the first anniversary of my first dose of mounjaro.

It is also the day that I've reached the total loss of 100lbs.

I now 'only' have 46lbs to go until I hit my target weight of 'overweight' bmi.

It actually feels achievable for the first time in forever!

Helpingabit · 09/05/2025 11:42

Thanks for the new thread…. I have been about since the first thread started but I have changed names a few times….

next mini goal is 250lbs ready for my holiday . I have 14 weeks so should be doable!

just started my 7mg pen this last week and it’s made a good difference- 3lb loss this week which was much needed .

keep going everyone

No you haven't misread. I presume most of it is water weight but those are the weights. Same scales. Same clothes. Different weights.

I also lost a stone in my first week.

It was such a lovely feeling! Even though I knew it was water weight.

KLAXON

The scales FINALLY start with 12.

I'm now 12st 13lb.

Total loss in 16 months is 7st 3lb.

Too many messages on thread two and here to catch up on everyone this am! Welcome to all the newbies and well done to all - slow and fast. And thank you for sharing childhood and life experiences. I am, of course, jealous of @Billybingbong for shedding so much in 5 weeks - a stone and a half! Excellent progress.

I'd hoped for a stone a month that I achieved on vlcds but comfort myself with the hope that my ageing skin will retract well going slower. What nonsense I am writing - as "going slower" is still an average of 2lbs a week!

It's been three weeks since I last posted. Net 4.8lbs off - a bit up and down. I'm 30lbs in 15 weeks from a similar starting weight to you, Billy. But I am happy with that. I'm a daily weigher, and at last am consistently below 20 stone every morning, having shed just over two stone - 9.75% of my starting weight.

I want to shed another 6 stone to 14 stone (my lowest since the mid 80s, which I got to 6 or 7 years ago again on Alizonne (now called Alevere), an expensive VLCD with regular blood tests, contouring ultrasound to target fat and another treatment to tighten skin. Alizonne/Alevere was tough but good - but I couldn't sustain the eating to stay at target - what I now would call food noise was overwhelming. I think having started Mounjaro, I could actually get to 11 or 12 stone. I was 12 stone at university - size 16 in those days (I think it would be size 12 in 2025). I thought I was fat.....

I still have an acid stomach - so use Gaviscon most days. I have occasional loose bowels. I'm not sure why as my diet is pretty consistent so not due to eating a higher fat meal. In fact I general eat higher fat higher protein and lower carbs than most people do. I don't fret about the loose bowels - maybe every 2 or 3 weeks or so. There may be some connection with a small whoosh. I wonder if there are nasties locked up in the fat I'm shedding that result diarrhoea.

@Hearditonapodcast - you are just on the starter dose, so quietening the food noise should come in the next few weeks or when you titrate up. I'm wondering how the weight loss happened. Maybe you have some quietening that you haven't noticed?

I'm still on 5mg, and happy with that. I've been on 5mg since month 2 - and it's still working well for me. I'm on SheMed which is an annual contract & so cheaper but means the dose decision is taken by the prescriber. I'm OK with that - and think about the aggressive response from the big panjandrums on the Reddit Mounjaro UK thread when I posted abt signing up with SheMed. They were extraordinarily angry, schooled me about the SheMed ownership (which I knew - I had checked them out) and decided I was employed by SheMed. Bizarre. It's saved me money, and save time & stress shopping around for more expensive prescribers, and I see that people it didn't suit have ended their contracts with agreement with SheMed. Obviously, it would not be a good choice for people who may not be able to make the monthly payment as it is an annual contract. SheMed requires a monthly online check-in with your weighing scales using their app. Sometimes on the SheMed weigh in, I've called them on the app late in the day - so not a consistent time. The call handlers are probably Phillippinas, some with strong accents, but it's quick and easy to do. My weigh in of record for my own use - is my own - first thing post ablutions. It's not been a straight line.

I'm still in size 24 jeans. The waist is loose. I'm using one of those elasticated no buckle belts that attaches to the front loops and goes round the back, as the waist is too loose in the rear. I have regular and short SimplyBe Kim jeans - and find the short jeans aren't as loose in the waist. I hadn't realised they were cut differently at the waist. I didn't mean to get short jeans - and error buying on Vinted. I'm 5ft 6 - so they are just about OK length wise when I wear crocs (ie most of the time). Last time I shed a lot of weight I used George jeans to track down the sizes. Clothing varies so much across the brands that I find using one brand and style and moving down the sizes really encourages me. I no longer have an Asda nearby so I am using second hand Kim jeans - and have already sizes 22 and 20 ready. I'm wondering if they'll fit in the leg as I have swollen lower legs - lipoedema. I don't think they will slim in line with my hips and thighs. I think I may have to switch styles to wide leg trews for the rest of my life. I am going to start sewing again, so I will be able to make my own trousers. I just don't want to start sewing and then have to remake smaller. I think I'll start sewing again with a dressing robe and swimming cover up, as they'll be quick and easy to remake when they are too large.

I see a difference in my face - it's looking good. I am ageing so I have already been noticing those soft old age lines that I adored in the elders when I was a child. I have two chins now, not three and am good with the progress. I started MJ when Mr SeaStoat was ill so didn't tell him. I still haven't and am waiting for him to notice! My experience is that it takes 3 to 4 stone for others to notice. We live a pretty isolated life - most of my friends live hours away, and I mostly see my women's rights friends online. I am going to the Women's Festival in Derby on Saturday so I wonder if any will notice the change. I hope so! I only have one friend I see every month or so who knows. She's a lovely slim GP - and is very supportive about it.

I decided I needed to be wearing nice clothes - so have got rid of some old well worn tatty clothing & bought 5 new Land's End vest tops in a range of blue colours size 24-26 2X at a great price when I started. I've been wearing them with one of two fleece jackets - one green and one turquoise. Now the tops are loose - so I have bought two new vest tops 20-22 1X and two fleece jackets - navy blue and bright red. They are summer weights, compared tomy existing tops/jackets. The 20-22 tops fit well, and I am tucking them into my jeans, rather than having them over the top. The 20-22 fleece jackets are OK - but will fit better on the arms when I have lost a bit more. I quite like having the loose fit from the 2 bigger fleeces so still wear them too. I think I will keep my lovely blue vests and take them in an inch or two on the sides rather than buy a few more. I realise how few clothes I actually need.

I bought a longer shirt & a Next duster coat on Vinted. I need to change the buttons on one, and think I'll wear the duster coat if it fits when I go to the Women's Festival on Saturday.

I have a couple of big dinners in June and July - and will probably hire evening dresses if I don't see a lovely dress on Vinted, as there's no point buying a dress I'll only wear twice. I think I'll be 20-22. I like my arms covered and they are likely to be plumper than an average woman so I may need to size up to a 24. Any recommendations on dress hire sites for plus sizes?

I am a little sad that I don't feel like wearing maxi dresses this summer as my calves/ankle are so visible in a maxi or a knee length dress - and I don't like how the lipoedema looks. I used to love a maxi skirt and dress. I'm wondering what I'll wear if it gets very hot. Linen wide leg trews I think. I was going to buy a pair from M&S ... but they had been hacked so the moment passed, and I now I think I'll wait.

I had my colours done years ago and was a spring. I am thinking of going back to see how they will change as I'm going grey, and no longer highlight my hair. Do colours change as you age?

I'll also need advice when I change shape on what will be flattering. What will be my new slim style? When I was last 14 stone, I was mostly size 16. I had short jackets, and some lovely belts, and felt very svelte. I can't wait!! And as this long screed shows, I am aiming to enjoy my clothes as I get there.

Exercise? Not really. I do a daily shortish walk. I did say I'd start swimming again. I haven't yet. I hope next time I post I will be telling you I am swimming regularly, and have started Pilates to get me moving with ease again. If you read this far, thank you! I'm not a daily mumsnetter, so see you again in a few days.

SeaStoat · 09/05/2025 12:12

@peppercornrent Congratulations on your first anniversary. Really encouraging to see your results. How is your skin doing? I know I don't want surgery but am worried about having a skin flap on my tummy as I shed more weight. I'm not vain - so not so worried about arms and thighs - more about infection and managing an apron. I'm in my late 60s so I am worried it won't retract as well as it did before.

Fffreeeeezing · 09/05/2025 12:31

Weigh day for me as well today and it's my 8 week anniversary! Total loss as of today is 2st1lb, and I look absolutely no different (or feel any different either) but I'm guessing I'll need another few stone before that happens 🤷🏻‍♀️ Started my second 5mg pen today but might go up to 7.5 next time. 5mg has been very consistent for me, I've lost exactly 3lb every week for the last 5 weeks, weird eh?! Makes for a lovely smooth graph so I hope this pen will continue the same 😁.

Don't think health wise it would be good for me to lose any more per week than I am currently so I should probably just carry on doing what I'm doing.........

GnomeDePlume · 09/05/2025 13:27

@seastoat that was lovely to read your thinking around what to wear as shape changes.

I think for so many of us we have been overweight for a long time, I know I have. I have no idea what will suit slimmer me. I know I like simple, unfussy clothes but I have no idea if they suit me.

Good God! I have just been struck by the awful thought that I might suit things I hate.
