Thought I'd kick start a new thread for this oh so supportive little group, as the last thread was reaching it's limit.

If you're using the extra MJ (the golden dose) always remember that 0.6ml of the medication is a full dose of whatever strength pen you've got.

I've always used it, and have discovered that there's 0.8ml of MJ left after the first four doses have been administered. So there's more than one full dose available.

As an example - I'm now on the 15mg pen. If I inject 0.6ml of the remaining medication, that's another 15mg dose.

The last bit of 0.2ml is equivalent to 5mg MJ.
I always use this, too.

I don't understand people who discard so much expensive medication.

I’ve just drawn 0.6ml from my 15mg pen and was going to throw away the remaining 0.2ml that’s left in there but now I’m curious as to when you take the “extra/extra” 5mg dose? ☺️

When the next dose is due.

There won't be quite as much circulating MJ for a few days, but it hasn't bothered me, and it's only once every six weeks.

But not recommended on the prescribing label, naturally.............

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 27/05/2025 15:18

I mean the thing is, you can chuck it out, of course.
But it's worth about ten quid, from a pen which cost £170.

I hate wasting money.
🤣

Iwouldratherbesinging · 27/05/2025 15:34

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne you’ve got me thinking now (obviously I don’t endorse or recommend this), I could use that 0.2ml and top it up to 0.6ml with the next pen, then rinse (metaphorically) and repeat each time. I just used the whole 0.8ml on the lower doses but didn’t want to with the 15mg pens. Thanks for the idea!

Finally a loss ,4 lbs off this week
Taking me to over a 6 stone loss
Tomorrow is the first day of 15 mg
And ideally I'd like to loose another 6 stone ,but I'd settle for 4.
Sometimes I do get urges to absolutely stuff my face ,but I've managed to not give in.so that's 8 months of eating relatively normally.
I have lost a lot of weight before, and never managed to keep it of
So I am concerned about how I will manage to keep it of this time
Still got to actually get to a normal BMI before I worry about that

Cheffymcchef · 27/05/2025 15:53

CosmicCuppa · 04/05/2025 19:01

Can I join you please?

I started four weeks ago and have lost 9lb. I lost 2 and a bit stone beforehand.

SW: 24 stone 6
CW: 21 stone 6
GW: 14 stone

I’ll still be classed as overweight at 14 stone at 5ft9 but it’s a far cry from where I’ve been so right now that’s the big goal.

Wow! Are you dieting or just eating normally? I’m your starter weight now

You could consider maintenance. Quite a few companies are offering it now.

You've done so well!

TragicMuse · 27/05/2025 18:47

I just did my measurements! Totes NSV-tastic!!

Pre-March 2025
HB 44”
FB 50-51”

I don't know anything about how that works
Is there a certain BMI you have to ,or can you choose your own maintenance weight

Doggymummar · 27/05/2025 20:07

On Oushk for example I think they will let you maintain at BMI 19 and above. On monj.com maintenance section it tells you. Some are 23 and above.m

@Cheffymcchef I started MJ on 23rd March weighing 24st 9.5lbs. Today I’m 22st 6.5lbs. I’m on my third pen taking a 6.25mg dose from it. Very few side effects. I’m more energetic, not in pain and mostly feel hope for the future. You can do this, it’s different this time. I only wish I’d started sooner.

I can’t afford it/ could never afford it sadly due to outgoings and paying off debt, however am seeing an NHS Diatician. Unfortunately as I am not diabetic I believe I am not entitled to it on NHS.

CosmicCuppa · 27/05/2025 22:50

I’m now 10lb away from my first goal weight of 20 stone so hoping I can get that off in this next month. Just ordered another pen of 5mg as I’m still having a few days of side effects on it but suppression is good to hopefully doing another month on this dose.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 27/05/2025 23:06

1.5 lbs off for me this week, I’m tantalisingly close to a 5 stone loss, it’s just 1 lb away, this is just unheard of! And I’m out of the 200lb+ club, I’m 199 lbs 🥳

Doggymummar · 28/05/2025 07:43

Well done @Iwouldratherbesinging that's great. I was stuck at 202 for months but breaking 200 psychologically was huge.

Hearditonapodcast · 28/05/2025 08:56

Just dropping in to ask if anyone has stayed on 2.5? I know that's the initial dose, but I'm about to see the diabetes nurse to get pen 2 and I'm so happy on 2.5 that I don't know if I want to move up. I've lost 1st 4lb in total and my blood sugars are looking great. I've had no side effects saved a little bit of constipation which was easily resolved, and some heartburn but another medication I'm on means I've had heartburn for years anyway, so that's not new. We were on holiday last week and I still ate well even though we ate out every night, and managed to lose 4lb. My BMI is exactly 40 now, I'm just about drop into the obese category (40+ being morbidly obese of course!)

How quickly did others move up doses? Did anyone not move up at all?

I moved up every 4 weeks and have been on 15mg since December

You've done incredibly well on your 1st 4 weeks! I've lost 8lbs & I've just done my 3rd jab. I was hoping to stay on 2.5mg as similar mild SE to you & doing OK, but general advice seems to be that effects can start wearing off as your body gets used to it, & 2.5mg is really just the starting dose.

I'm wary of going up to 5mg, but at the moment, I'm planning on ordering 5mg next, but probably will take 3.75mg (by counting clicks) for at least the first 2 weeks. It's tricky to know what to do if responding well already, but i don't want to risk staying on 2.5mg & effectiveness reducing over time, would rather have the option to increase if needed with a 5mg pen.

First 3 pens I stayed on 2.5mgs, lost 34lbs in that time however started to feel quite hungry. Currently wk3 on 5mgs and all good. Won’t look to move up a dose unless I start feeling hungry with it again.

Tomorrow will be jab number 11 for me, all on 2.5mg. I've lost 34lb. It's just working for me, good suppression and no side effects. As I have so much to lose, I'll stay on the lowest dose I can as long as I can. I do have a 5mg pen though, and just use 30 clicks worth - at least then it's always on hand if the effect of the 2.5 starts to fade. I am terrified of going back to the way I was - not just because of weight gain, but because of the sense of liberation now my life is not dominated by my relationship with food - so I will move up as soon as my body and mind tell me it is time. You're doing great!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/05/2025 11:45

Hi @Hearditonapodcast I moved up every four weeks too.
I'm on 15mg and have been for months.

I just had my review and the DN said to stay on 2.5 for as long as possible, she has a patient who's been on 2.5 for a year and has lost 5 stone so I'm not too worried just yet. She said in her experience people who move up doses quickly plateau at the same rate as those staying on lower doses and then there's nowhere to go 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I've started to feel a little bit hungry occasionally on days 5 & 6, but it's at normal times when I should be eating and actually it's become a really good cue to eat, whereas the first few days after the jab I'm having to set alarms to remind me as I'm just forgetting!

I know I can call her at any point and request to be moved up, even if it's partway through a pen so I'm really happy with the plan. My BG numbers are looking good and really, that's the only reason MJ is NHS funded so that needs to be my most important consideration!

That's interesting info., thanks. I might review what I'd planned now! I've still got time to decide, would prefer to stay at 2.5mg, just didn't want to be stuck with it for 4 weeks if stopped working as well as now.
