Thought I'd kick start a new thread for this oh so supportive little group, as the last thread was reaching it's limit.

Yes, I remember how I felt when the MJ kicked in for the first time.

Not being able to finish a plate of food was a great surprise. I couldn't believe the medication was actually working.

I was really lucky with side-effects, too - I had very few, and they were early on. Now I'm on the 15mg and have been for a while, and I don't get any at all. Well, maybe a bit of heartburn occasionally, but I had that anyway.

Potato1234 · 18/05/2025 10:12

@eibbed999 yes everything you say is true. I’m doing this for my health - my GP report last year stated I was at a 40% risk of cardiovascular disease. I’m doing something for my health and this is the only thing that works. I hope in the not too distant future the negative views lessen and WLI will be the norm. I need to stop myself from reading all the negativity as I’m clearly just getting annoyed/anxious!

Potato1234 · 18/05/2025 10:14

@GnomeDePlume sorry to hear that - dementia is such a cruel disease. Sending hugs

TragicMuse · 18/05/2025 10:26

I’ve told a few family members. I don’t think I’m going to tell anyone who asks what I’m doing, or strangers, but equally I’m not going to lie. So I suppose if someone says ‘are you on jabs?’ I’d probably say ’yup’. But I’m not volunteering it.

My diabetes nurse said she would have prescribed it for me if my diabetes was less controlled, so although I’m paying, it’s in the knowledge that I have the full support of my nurse. Anyone who objects to my taking a medication for my condition can kiss my ever-decreasing arse!

GnomeDePlume · 18/05/2025 12:01

My family all know and both DDs are also on mounjaro anyway. It's nice to have someone to talk to about it.

I altered three tops yesterday so that they now look a lot less bouffant. I could probably have altered them more than I did but I will save that for another day.

Doggymummar · 18/05/2025 12:19

I told my oh, I was so ill and obviously losing weight I threw up everyday for about four months he thought I had cancer or something so I had to confess. The tablets ,I started on Rybelsus were in plain sight on the kitchen side but he's not very observant .

TorturedParentsDepartment · 18/05/2025 12:35

I'm quite open about it - best reaction had to be from my big senior boss who is Danish (this is relevant) and her hometown is the base of the company that developed Ozempic (so they've had a massive economic boom based on that) thanking me for my contribution to her hometown economy! I love that woman's "no shit" approach to anything!

I also work with a lot of nurses - all of whom have been nothing but supportive and interested as fuck about how I'm getting on with it. My Shotsy graph has been analysed around the entire office!

BagQueenBee · 18/05/2025 14:33

SW 28st 1lb
CW 23st 12lb
GW 10st - goodness knows what I will look like at that!
5ft 5in
End week 24….

2lb loss for me this week, so really pleased with that, still feeling good on 5mg pen (just started my 5th 5mg pen).

Collegue said this week…. Wow you have lost some weight, what you been doing, said she noticed a week ago but didn’t want to ask in front of others…. I was a little taken back so just said oh I am just watching what I eat and have started swimming…. She said well you look great it’s working.

She is the first person to mention it, my daughter, husband and even myself can really see a difference, but I understand people don’t like to ask.

I am not explaining about WLJ because I just don’t feel I should have to, only hubby and daughter know.

Lovely to read everyone’s updates and chat… have a great week everyone x

Iwouldratherbesinging · 18/05/2025 14:45

My family know and SiL but that’s it. I haven’t completely lied as no-one has asked. I told friends that I had properly re-started 5:2 fasting diet and that’s true. Work colleagues have said how well I’m doing and I said the same to them but I did drop into the conversation that I was considering WLI just to see what the reaction was and shockingly it was quite positive, so if anyone asks later I might say that I’ve now started them. I’m not very good with any sort of confrontation/judgement, I tend to just shut down. I’m definitely doing this 100% for me, no one else.
I don’t really have extra close friends, we moved so much, hubby is ex-forces so we’ve all sort of drifted apart over the years which is a bit sad thinking about it.

Today I seem to have boundless energy, I’ve washed all the walls in the house, cleaned out all the plugs holes, washed and de-dusted the radiators, washed all the kitchen units and floors, just stopped for a drink and I’m contemplating what to do next! Normally Sunday would consist of cooking a roast and settling down in front of the tv before another work week - not sure what’s happened 😃

Potato1234 · 18/05/2025 18:59

@Iwouldratherbesinging come to my house!

GnomeDePlume · 19/05/2025 06:47

One thing I am still finding difficult is getting DH to not plate up so much for me. I think he is not wanting to make assumptions but I do end up leaving a fair bit.

On the plus side the dog is now my bestest friend in all the world as he knows I am good for leftovers!

TheZingyFish · 19/05/2025 09:00

Week 6 Lost 3lbs
SW 24st 9lbs
CW 23st 3lbs
Total lost 1st 6lbs

Feeling really pleased, have felt freer with eating this week, have felt I can trust myself to know what to eat moment.

Had some really sticky moments at work, where was mad busy and had to be very reactive in a pressurised environment and ordinarily I would have reached for the three CS, coke, carbs and chocolate, but didn’t feel the need. Feels empowering as these were the moments I was most worried about as are usually my downfall whenever I’ve tried to lose weight in the past.

Is still a long journey ahead, but feel I’m getting better at the journey instead of flagging.

TragicMuse · 19/05/2025 09:02

Well done Zingy! That’s brilliant on all fronts!

GnomeDePlume · 19/05/2025 09:20

To avoid some of the more judgemental comments DD says she is on Tirzepatide. Most people don't realise that is the actual medical name for Mounjaro.

She is on this for diabetes but some people do think they have a right to comment.

Potato1234 · 19/05/2025 09:48

NSV today, my fitted size 18 tops actually fit and not tight! And my stretchy size 16 dresses I could actually get away with wearing! I have a wedding to attend in August and I’ll be in a lot of photos, I would love to be able to not buy my usual style of elasticated waist, I daren’t buy anything yet though

TragicMuse · 19/05/2025 12:48

I’m pleased that my Saturday WI has held steady - there’s always that fear that when it’s a tiny boundary of the 13.75lbs variety it will somehow erode or not be true!

Onto the coming week. I had a mentally- busy weekend doing coursework for my MA, so food was very far from my mind. Now my coursework is completed, I can relax.

Downwards, losers. Downwards all the way!!

Toddlerteaplease · 19/05/2025 14:52

my first pen arrived tomorrow. Im
odf sick from work this week. So hopefully any side effects should t be to much of an issue.

SeaStoat · 19/05/2025 18:30

Good to read everyone's updates and welcome to our newcomers.

@GnomeDePlume sorry to read about the family history of dementia. It's another factor for me as I felt I was starting to lose words etc. Not been checked out.

Here's that New England Journal of Medicine paper reporting that tirzepatide (Mounjaro) is superior to semaglutide (Ozempic) for weight loss and waist reduction.

"A total of 19.7% of the participants in the tirzepatide group had a reduction in body weight of at least 30% (an exploratory end point) as compared with 6.9% of those in the semaglutide group, which indicated that the likelihood of meeting this weight-reduction target with tirzepatide was 2.8 times as high as that with semaglutide (Table 2). In both trial-treatment groups, the weight reduction was approximately 6% greater among women than among men."

Change in waist circumference from baseline to week 72 was 18.4 cm down (7 inches) with tirzepatide and 13.0 cm down with semaglutide (5 inches).

archived - doesn't have the graphs https://archive.ph/gpOMF

If I shed 30%, that'll be 93lbs, and I'll be 15 stone 7lbs. My waist will be 37 inches (currently 44 inches) if down 7 inches in line with the research findings. That seems to be size 20-22 - and I'd like to be size 14-16. So a bit confusing. When I did a vlcd, I got to 14 stone and wore mostly size 16s, a few 14s and some 18s. I felt great. I didn't have bad lipoedema then - so I'm guessing I'll carry more weight in lower legs than I did then.

So I would like to get that 100lbs within 18 months, if all continues to go well, and my skin retracts. I'm shedding slowly so think it'll be longer than that.

My first pen arrives tomorrow too - the start of a weight loss journey. Feeling nervous/excited. I don't think I'm going to take mine until Thurs, though, so I only have one day at work to get through if I feel rubbish. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Elle771 · 19/05/2025 20:42

Are those who have managed to shed a large amount finding lots of loose skin?

I would love to believe my flabby bingo wings can once again be the toned biceps of my youth (aka 20s ha!) But surely there's no way that much skin will retract?! Will I ever be able to wear strappy tops with confidence again basically... 😬😬

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 19/05/2025 20:57

@Elle771 I've lost over 7st and although the skin everywhere is looser, it's starting to tone up a bit, and I'm going to wear sleeveless tops.

I'm nearly 70 and I thought during winter that I'd still want to cover my arms up, but they don't really look too bad now.

Doggymummar · 19/05/2025 21:05

I've lost 85lbs and I am 55. My arms are ok actually, it's not so much loose skin, like I have seen on the Tiktoks of people who have lost weight quickly, and the photos people have posted ed on the Oushk FB site. I do have bingo wings though. My skin on my thighs is a bit wrinkly like it's lost it's tone. But noone sees those. Tummy and bum no looseness at all. I think it will be very specific to each person to be honest. There's nothing I feel needs fixing or would be embarrassed to show.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 19/05/2025 22:13

Im 57 and have lost just under 67lbs since starting MJ, the very top of my arms are a bit flappy and I have loose skin at the top of my thighs, I’m not too worried about it, my neck seems to be improving with all the lotions and potions, I think my stomach might be the worst I’ll have to deal with. I started Wellgard collagen powder today to see if that helps with elasticity, I’ll try it for a couple of months. Loose skin is easier to hide than fat and at my age I’m not too bothered (at the moment).

Iwouldratherbesinging · 19/05/2025 22:15

Good luck with your journeys @Toddlerteaplease and @Quitepossibly ☺️
