Thought I'd kick start a new thread for this oh so supportive little group, as the last thread was reaching it's limit.

This Is Us is the best series I have ever watched. And yes so many of the storylines around Kates weight I so related to.

Yes it is wonderful. I don't usually like super emotional shows/films (I prefer a zombie apocalypse!), but This Is Us was something very special indeed. Reading interviews with the actress as well was always so interesting, starting Weight Watchers at 11, being shamed, eating her feelings. We all know the abuse and judgement we have faced being obese in everyday life, for her it was magnified because of her fame. I love the way both she and Kate refused to hide themselves away.

Another ‘This is us’ fan ❤️. I’m usually a zombie apocalypse type fan too but this was another level and so emotional/relatable. When I got to the last episode I think it took me a couple of weeks before I could watch it as I just didn’t want it to end. The music was a bonus!

Lds1 · 17/05/2025 07:35

I've not watched this is us, sounds like I should give it a try

My family were amazed that I was watching it - I usually don't enjoy anything that doesn't have sub-machines guns or blood in it! But as you say, next level. Funny, relatable, and just such incredibly real characters. The writing and acting was incredible. The scenes with Rebecca on the train making her way back to Jack...just perfect!

It's amazing! And such a good portrayal of a fat woman, how she got that way, how people treat her, but maybe more importantly her life outside it - she's not just about her weight. Give it a couple of episodes and it will grab you.

Doggymummar · 17/05/2025 08:06

I'm welling up just at the comments here about This is Us. I didn't get through a single episode without crying. I used to watch on my lunch break and OH would like, why do you do this to yourself! Exquisite torture

Quitepossibly · 17/05/2025 08:16

eibbed999 · 17/05/2025 06:28

We all felt the same @Quitepossibly - just view it as the last time you will ever be as heavy as that!

Yes, that's a really good way of looking at it. The photos were certainly a wake-up call.

Very cathartic!

Start weight / BMI: 19st 9lbs / 44.4 (obese class 3)
Current weight / BMI: 17st 3lbs / 38.9 (obese class 2)

Wks 1-4 (2.5mg): -17lbs
Wks 5-8 (2.5mg): -6lbs
Wks 9-12 (2.5mg): -11lbs
Wk13 - 0lb
Total loss: 34lbs

Wk13 weigh in today… zero loss, still 17st 3lbs. Can help but be disappointed given it’s been week of it being able to keep anything down/in (sorry TMI).

Moved up to 5mgs having been on 2.5mgs previous 12 weeks…D1/2 fine, day 3-6 💣💩

Food noise/thoughts have been more prominent than when I was on 2.5mgs but it’s early days I guess.

I’m not noticing a reduction in size physically but clothes sizing is definitely reducing. I don’t think I’ll ever be rid of my below belly button pouch…2 caesarean and an emergency op have left quite a pronounced pouch. 30 odd days until we embark on an AI cruise so a clothing shop is definitely needed but will wait til nearer departure. Then sensible choices for the week away are all down to me!

Goal 1: 10% of starting weight (27.5lbs loss) ✅
Goal 2: 10% of wk11 weight (22.4lbs loss, total 49.9 loss)
End Goal: healthy BMI (between 18.5 and 24.9 for my height)

Quitepossibly · 17/05/2025 08:34

I'm a complete newbie to this. Have just had my first order confirmed and am feeling a mix of excitement and trepidation/nerves. Hoping it will be delivered later this week and I can start taking it then, so I'm trying to plan ahead a little. I'm looking at some things I've got in the fridge and thinking 'hmm, chances are I won't want/be able to eat that when I start'. Also craving a takeaway curry so I think I might have to have one beforehand... it feels a bit like the last supper!

Any suggestions for supplements to take? (I currently take Vit D, a Vit B Complex, Glucosamine/Chondroitin and a multi- complex Collagen tablet.) I'm wondering if I should add a more general multivitamin too?

Also. I'm aware my food 'wants' are likely to change as soon as I start taking MJ. Any specific food suggestions that got you through in the early days? (I'm thinking yogurt, lots of fruit/smoothies, veg, brown rice, chicken, eggs, veg (though not a huge fan of many veg), etc. I love cheese but am thinking I might not be able to tolerate it... one thing I'll really miss.

Apologies for the very long post!

I’ve got goosebumps just thinking about it! I think I need to re watch them all. Just had a flashback to when Kate was a child and the kids passed the note to say they didn’t want to play with her as she was a ‘pig’ 😭

Iwouldratherbesinging · 17/05/2025 08:57

@Quitepossibly welcome to the gang! The foods you listed sound very much like the foods I made sure were in the fridge, I only take vitamin D but am toying with collagen powder for my skin rather than tablets, I’m not young so anything that can help with elasticity is a bonus.
you’ll probably find that your tastes for certain things completely change, it’s bizarre.
I love cheese too, babybels are my go to and I’ve developed a love for the laughing cow light triangles! My favourite is a good Brie but I don’t trust myself to have more than I should so it’s banned!
I eat cherry tomatoes like they are sweets, chopped apples with a sprinkle of cinnamon is good. Hard boiled eggs as well.
my cooking habits haven't changed as we were eating healthily, it’s my portion sizes that have drastically reduced, that takes some working out in the early days. I think I was cooking enough for the whole street rather than just the two of us! I dish up onto a much smaller plate or use a bowl now.
good luck!

TragicMuse · 17/05/2025 09:31

Oh that’s good @GnomeDePlume - I also have a zip nemesis! I did one which was great, mostly they’re a bit shonky!

TragicMuse · 17/05/2025 09:34

Week 12, 5mg (2nd 5mg pen)

SW 19st 4lbs (Jan 2025, pre-MJ)
SW on MJ 18st 8lbs (1 Mar 2025)
CW 16st 13.75lbs
Loss this week 4lb!!
Total loss 32.25lbs

Interim GW (set by Nutracheck!) 15st 8lbs

That sees my third goal of 2 stone/20%

And

I’M IN THE SIXTEENS!!

It’s been a week!

Quitepossibly · 17/05/2025 09:52

@Iwouldratherbesinging some good food suggestions there - thank you. I'd forgotten about cheese triangles and will make sure I add them to my shopping list.

Potato1234 · 17/05/2025 10:48

@Quitepossibly have your curry - but this is nothing like a diet. So don’t feel like you’re going to be missing out! You won’t feel constant deprivation and waiting for a cheat day like every other diet. Stock up on protein - what do you like? I’m pescatarian so make sure I have lots of fish in the fridge! Also protein yoghurts, nuts, hard boiled eggs ready to snack on. I usually eat one proper meal in the evening which is more protein and veg focused but still have some carbs 😊 your tastebuds may change so maybe just play it by ear and go shopping once you’ve done your first injection

Potato1234 · 17/05/2025 10:52

It’s been 6 weeks since I started and my official weigh-in today:

SW 18 stone 11 lbs
CW 16 stone 13 lbs

Total loss of 26 lbs 🥳 I asked my husband if he can tell the difference and without hesitation he said “no” 😆 OH WELL maybe a couple more stones and people will notice… have a great weekend everyone and congrats on all the losses!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 17/05/2025 11:42

Hello and welcome @Quitepossibly

I haven't really changed what I've eaten at all.

I'm 16 months down the line and I've lost 7st 3lb. I'm still in the Obese category of BMI though, but not by much.

I just eat exactly what I ate before, but less of it.

I don't take any supplements either. I've taken Vitamin D for years, so still taking that.

Very good luck to you. MJ changes lives.

Pecano · 17/05/2025 12:07

Hi all, I’ve just started MJ, took my second jab this morning

SW: 20st 9lb
CW: 19st 11lb
GW: 10st

10 stone is what I’m told will get me out of the “overweight” category but I’m aiming more for 12st I think and then see how I feel.

i’m so happy with the really big loss in the first week, although I’m not expecting that to continue long term at all!
is anyone else with SheMed? I’m not sure how I feel about the weekly check-ins. At the moment it’s quite motivating for me as I (stupidly) don’t want the random person on the app to judge me if I don’t lose, even though I’m sure they do not give a toss!

Elle771 · 17/05/2025 12:12

Joining pls... set myself an 8stone off target but to get into "normal" BMI it needs to be closer to 10stone off 😬 which all feels quite intimidating!!

First jab done few days ago..

SW 19st12
GW 12st at the moment but really should be 10st!!

Elle771 · 17/05/2025 12:20

@pecano just read your post we are same for goals! :)

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 17/05/2025 12:41

@Pecano WOw that's a huge first week loss! It does seem that some people get a huge first one with their body adjusting but it does tend to even out to the recommended 1-2lb a week it seems for most of us. (sometimes more/sometimes less)

I'm 18 weeks into Shemed and I've found them brilliant. The call handler is literally a call handler and wont care at all -its all just numbers. Think about it - they could be doing 10 an hour... They wont even be looking at if you have lost or not - their job is to read their spiel and record a weight and see the med box to ensure you are taking the right dosage.

I do like it - I have wondered if Shemed are going to be angling for an NHS contract in the future as their clincians make the prescribing decisions (informed by what you say) and they have been hot all along on seeing people's weight not just going on what people say even before the gov tightened up the guidelines.

However - for those of us on the 99 study we HAVE to check in everyweek (or at least 3/4). If you are more recent you're on the 159 programme and actually the online checkins are only compulsory at the start of each pen - you could do it manually yourself if you wanted. I quite like them now weirdly as its all part of my friday morning routine!! It seems quite a few of us keep a "naked" weight as well as the shemed one (I use renpho and shotsy to record these).

Overall, especially with a lot to lose, it will be about the general direction of the journey (ie down!) and I've found there are ups and downs and sometimes a few pounds more/staying the same (periods/after a carby or salty meal) and sometimes bigger losses but it truly isn't linear. I have twice had 3 weeks of almost staying the same and wondering if it worked - followed by quite big drops - so my overal average is 1.1kg a week which is fab even with these "mini stalls"!

Good luck with it all - this thread has been a saving grace for me with all my wobbles, especially early on.

(I seem to be having a nausea and sulphur burp day today - grr. I have had a peppermint oil capsule so they're not so bad but the nausea is still here. This hasn't been a big problem much so its a shame its come back! At least its saturday.)

Pecano · 17/05/2025 13:06

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I’m on the 159 and didn’t realise the check-ins were optional to be honest! I figured they probably didn’t even register to them but at the moment it’s working for me so will keep doing it! I went with SheMed as it seemed like they took it more seriously, with the having to show your scales, blood test etc so it would make sense if they are angling to get in with the NHS.

I also had some sulphur burps this week, not terrible though so hopefully they don’t get worse!

Pecano · 17/05/2025 13:08

@Elle771I agree, 10 stone just seems crazy to me, I can’t even imagine it. I’m hoping that as I lose weight it will start to feel a bit more realistic!
