Hello @everyone and apologies for the long silence!
Life completely took over with work, family and a few other ongoing issues, then prepping for a family holiday... I’ve caught up on the posts I’ve missed and I’ve loved reading everyone’s updates, NSVs and the amazing support we all share as part of the December 2024 starters group.
I have had a few NSVs myself recently:
- I can now get out of the car driver’s seat using just the strength in my legs, no more pushing up with my arms!
- On holiday, the seatbelt had a bit of room left, and for the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel awkward sitting next to a stranger.
- I’m giving away clothes that are now too big (especially trousers) and rediscovering old favourites from years ago. I’ve only bought a couple of new jeggings but for now, I’m enjoying the nostalgia. If you see someone walking to work looking like it’s 2003, that’ll be me! 😂
- My knee pain has almost completely gone, and I’ve also come off prescribed PPIs (omeprazole) after years of being on them daily. I only need one maybe every couple of weeks now, and I honestly think long-term use contributed to a lot of my issues.
@TrinityWaves and @mrsmaybe — hello fellow MJ triplets! I’m also now squeezing into my favourite size 14 jeggings, though I’m mostly wearing 16s. I’m 5’8” (used to be 5’9”, but gravity and weight caught up with me 😅). I always used to be the tall/giant one out of my friends, but lately I’ve felt short compared to so many younger really tall women — anyone else noticed that?
@shrinkingfi when I lost a lot of weight in the early 2000s, I had noticeable hair loss too. My hair’s always been on the finer side, so I’m being extra careful now. I take several supplements that help, including marine collagen, zinc picolinate, vitamin D, B12, biotin, and omega-3s. I also use inositol for PCOS, which may help with hormonal hair loss too. If you’ve got bloods coming up, it’s worth asking your GP to check ferritin (aim for >70 for hair), vitamin D, B12/folate, zinc, and thyroid function (TSH + ideally FT3/FT4).
@WittyLimeBiscuit so sorry to hear about the kidney stones. I’ve had quite a history with them myself, multiple stents, laser surgeries and an episode of sepsis. Luckily nothing serious in recent years (touch wood). I completely get the challenge with oxalates as trying to balance healthy eating with stone prevention isn’t easy. Wishing you a smooth recovery!
I am currently week 29, on 9mg.
