Just starting up a new thread!

OP posts:
MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 19/06/2025 07:19

@frogpigdonkey we are still tracking very similar aren't we? I'm now at 40lb loss too. I think I'm going for 5 stone total loss and then will see what I decide.

@JunoRoma wow!! That's incredible. Go you. I feel so much better at nearly three stone off, so can't imagine what 5 stone must feel like!

@Goinghome25 so close for you now! :)

I know we're one of the quieter groups (because who picks to start dieting before Christmas Day) but I'm so glad I did, I was in free fall in December and to be half way through the year and feeling like this is incredible. I think it will take me at least another 6 months to get down the 5 stone total loss, but for me I've expected to stay on MJ for life, so I'm ok with however long it's takes.

JunoRoma · 19/06/2025 13:09

@MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals I'm hoping to stay on it for at least a couple of years, if not longer.

ShrankLastWinter · 19/06/2025 13:20

Yeah, me too. The anti-inflammatory benefits would be enough for me, even without the miraculous slim.

Goinghome25 · 19/06/2025 15:28

Same. I never want to go back to yoyo gain and loss and everything feels much more balanced for me hormonally.

I like our little group and also glad we started before Christmas feasting.. it worked straight away for me and even losing that first stone made such a difference for me.

My friend has overtaken me as she went up doses monthly but I am in no rush. On 10mg and no plans to increase now. As long as it all stays off I will be more than happy from here on in!

ShrankLastWinter · 19/06/2025 15:36

I actually enjoyed Christmas more because I wasn't worrying about overeating. I've always been so hungry, never full, so keen on calorific foods. This medicine feels like liberation. I get hungry, I enjoy what I eat, but then I'm full and satisfied.

Goinghome25 · 19/06/2025 15:46

Liberation is a great way of describing it!

Having stable blood sugar has taken all my anxiety around food and eating away.

Its good stuff.

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 19/06/2025 16:19

Liberation is a great way of looking at it.

other wins for me: it's levelled my hormones out. I no longer am a wannabe serial killer one week a month. Back ache/leg ache has gone away completely.
headaches are gone (although possibly by default of drinking more water).

I'm not perfect on these meds. I've never calorie counted. Some days I eat as little as 500 cals. And I rely way too much on protein milkshakes to get the protein in. And I'm not exercising after I pulled my arm about 10 weeks ago and it's still not healed.

Yeah it definately evens out the hormones. I have come off my HRT!
Sorry to hear you pulled your arm.
Hope it heals well.

Hello @everyone and apologies for the long silence!

Life completely took over with work, family and a few other ongoing issues, then prepping for a family holiday... I’ve caught up on the posts I’ve missed and I’ve loved reading everyone’s updates, NSVs and the amazing support we all share as part of the December 2024 starters group.

I have had a few NSVs myself recently:

  • I can now get out of the car driver’s seat using just the strength in my legs, no more pushing up with my arms!
  • On holiday, the seatbelt had a bit of room left, and for the first time in a long time, I didn’t feel awkward sitting next to a stranger.
  • I’m giving away clothes that are now too big (especially trousers) and rediscovering old favourites from years ago. I’ve only bought a couple of new jeggings but for now, I’m enjoying the nostalgia. If you see someone walking to work looking like it’s 2003, that’ll be me! 😂
  • My knee pain has almost completely gone, and I’ve also come off prescribed PPIs (omeprazole) after years of being on them daily. I only need one maybe every couple of weeks now, and I honestly think long-term use contributed to a lot of my issues.

@TrinityWaves and @mrsmaybe — hello fellow MJ triplets! I’m also now squeezing into my favourite size 14 jeggings, though I’m mostly wearing 16s. I’m 5’8” (used to be 5’9”, but gravity and weight caught up with me 😅). I always used to be the tall/giant one out of my friends, but lately I’ve felt short compared to so many younger really tall women — anyone else noticed that?

@shrinkingfi when I lost a lot of weight in the early 2000s, I had noticeable hair loss too. My hair’s always been on the finer side, so I’m being extra careful now. I take several supplements that help, including marine collagen, zinc picolinate, vitamin D, B12, biotin, and omega-3s. I also use inositol for PCOS, which may help with hormonal hair loss too. If you’ve got bloods coming up, it’s worth asking your GP to check ferritin (aim for >70 for hair), vitamin D, B12/folate, zinc, and thyroid function (TSH + ideally FT3/FT4).

@WittyLimeBiscuit so sorry to hear about the kidney stones. I’ve had quite a history with them myself, multiple stents, laser surgeries and an episode of sepsis. Luckily nothing serious in recent years (touch wood). I completely get the challenge with oxalates as trying to balance healthy eating with stone prevention isn’t easy. Wishing you a smooth recovery!

I am currently week 29, on 9mg.

After 28 weeks

• Height: 5’8” (173 cm)
• Starting Weight (SW): 260lbs (18st 8lbs / 118kg), BMI 40.3
• Current Weight (CW): 207.4lbs (14st 11.4lbs / 94.1kg), BMI 31.5
• Total Loss in 28 Weeks: -52.6lbs (-23.9kg), of which 55.5% fat loss and 44.5% lean mass loss

• Weeks 1–4: -12.0 lbs (-5.5 kg), of which fat loss: 6 lbs (50%) and lean mass loss: 6 lbs (50%)

• Weeks 5–8: -7.6 lbs (-3.4 kg), of which fat loss: 3.3 lbs (43%) and lean mass loss: 4.3 lbs (57%)

• Weeks 9–12: -8.2 lbs (-3.7 kg), of which fat loss: 5.0 lbs (61%) and lean mass loss: 3.2 lbs (39%)

• Weeks 13–16: -7.4 lbs (-3.4 kg), of which fat loss: 4.7 lbs (60%) and lean mass loss: 3.1 lbs (40%)

• Weeks 17–20: -8.6 lbs (-3.9 kg), of which fat loss: 5.2 lbs (60%) and lean mass loss: 3.4 lbs (40%)

• Weeks 21-24: -5.4 lbs (-2.4 kg), of which fat loss: 3.4 lbs (63%) and lean mass loss: 2 lbs (37%)

• Weeks 25-28: -3.0lbs (-1.36kg), of which fat loss: 1.7lbs (56.7%) and lean mass loss: 1.3 lbs (43.3%) – all-inclusive holiday in that period where I gained 4.6lbs in 9 days despite eating fairly healthy, but much more compared to what i eat at home.

JunoRoma · 20/06/2025 22:28

@LC4life that's great progress and I'm loving the NSVs.

WittyLimeBiscuit · 21/06/2025 08:39

JunoRoma · 20/06/2025 22:28

@LC4life that's great progress and I'm loving the NSVs.

Thanks @LC4life am now stone and stent free — after what sounds like a very similar experience to you. Have final appointment with consultant next week, so am hoping to get the thumbs up to resume jabs.
Between the boredom, inability to exercise, need for comfort and not having had a jab since the week before Easter, I have put on about 6lbs — but I know I will soon lose that if I get the go-head to resume. And if not, the almost 2stone I am down from my starting weight will be an incentive to do try to keep it off old school.
I also hear what you say about shrinking. I was 5'7" and am now 5'6". A combination of old age and wear and tear. The CT scans for the kidney stuff showed age-related compression/erosion of some lower discs — another incentive to lose weight.
But, on the plus side, I have noticed that heels (nothing crazy) are more comfortable now, presumably because there is less weight going through to the balls of my feet.

TrinityWaves · 21/06/2025 17:54

@LC4life - ah, welcome back - you're doing brilliantly.
I'm shorter than you - I'm 166cm which is just over 5'5". I'm currently mostly a size 16 now at 13½ stone. At this 'average' size I'm having so many NSV.
However, I seem to be a big of a magnet for making short friends in the range of 4'11" - 5'3" so I feel tall around them 😂

JunoRoma · 21/06/2025 18:27

I thought I was 165cm and have been using that height for BMI measurements throughout.

It turns out that I'm actually 166cm (measured by the practice nurse in March) but I'm not adjusting it now. It'll allow for a bit of menopausal shrinkage.

Slimwannabe · 22/06/2025 12:23

Returning after two weeks and some holiday and I've lost a measly 0.5lb - still better than a gain, but between my period and the heat atm I feel so bloated and heavy! Was loosely tracking cals while away and walking loads so hoping for a better loss than I had, but c'est la vie.

Getting back on a stricter plan of calorie logging this week and wishing for that feeling of deflation post-period (right in the thick of it right now and feeling grim!)

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 22/06/2025 17:16

Jab day for me. Week god knows what.

Scales showed 11.10.9 this morning. Getting closer to the 11.09 and the 3 stone weight loss.

I went out on Friday with an old team. Loads haven't seen me in 6-12 months. The comments on my weight loss were amazing. And I went out wearing shorts, short shorts too, that I haven't done except on holidays in years. :)

LC4life · 22/06/2025 17:21

Thank you so much for the kind welcome backs! I just realised today that I lied in my previous post, I am just about fitting in jeggings size 16, not 14, must have been wishful thinking 😂 @TrinityWaves I've always been a magnet for shorter (and thin!) friends 😄 i'd keep the extra cm under wraps @JunoRoma as it would lower your bmi a tiny bit if you disclose it to your mj supplier 😂

LC4life · 22/06/2025 17:27

@WittyLimeBiscuit really glad to hear you are stent and stone free, and the worse has passed! You've done really well only putting on 6lbs since before Easter considering your health issues and no MJ for support! Hoping you get the go ahead to resume it soon!

Lindy0070 · 22/06/2025 20:51

Evening all, it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve checked in. Latest stats are as follows:

Jab 29 10mg
SW 213lbs
CW 184.8lbs
TW 161lbs

Total lost: 28.2 pounds!!

So I’m over halfway and smashed through the 2 stone barrier at last!!! 23 pounds or thereabouts to go.
I’ve been busy this weekend altering some work clothes. I’m a seamstress anyway so I begrudge buying new if I can help it. Also, when your husband says your arse looks like a sack of spuds in a pair of trousers, that’s the push I needed to sort them out 😂😂. Honestly, I took 2 inches from the crotch area to get rid of the saggy bottom and I still had to take in an inch down the side seams. NSV 🙌🏻🙌🏻.
I've been reading comments from a number of you that have similar health issues to me. I’ve been taking 5mg Ramipril for a few years now for high blood pressure. I’m not due an annual check up for a few months but was wondering if I should book an appointment to have a check. I’ve also not seen any doctor since I’ve started on MJ 👀. I’m hoping that I can reduce the dosage at least 🤔
I’ve mentioned this before but I have very fine hair and I’ve been taking Biotin for a few months now and I’ve also started washing my hair with Routine Wellness anti-thinning shampoo. I’ve definitely noticed I’ve got more “new” baby hair coming through which is more wispy. Thin hair is hereditary on my mother’s side so any help is great!!
Have a great week everyone, you’re all doing amazing 🙌🏻🙌🏻🎉😁

Edited

Rest your arm on their head - that's what I do 😄
We're MJ twinning a lot then as same clothing size and BMI is the same too.
I'm hoping to be a size 12 ish at goal. I better be as I've got a few bits in this size already as motivators 😂

frogpigdonkey · 23/06/2025 07:06

Week 29
SW 15 stone
CW 12 stone 1
TW 9 stone
total loss 41 lbs

another 1 lb off but not quite at my milestone yet! @MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimalsyou are my weight loss twin I think! Maybe we will hit the three stone mark together next week 😁

still having a little nausea at 12.5 and definitely not going up any time soon. Otherwise feeling good and very grateful to be able to wear smaller and thinner clothes in the heat 😁😁

Youre right! That is a nsv for me this weekend.

its much easier to cope with the heatwave when youre lighter isnt it!?

I really do not miss the sweaty underboob and chafing thighs!

frogpigdonkey · 23/06/2025 11:25

@Goinghome25totally! While I’m nowhere near target it’s definitely enough to make a difference in the heat. And to add to the NSVs I have dug out all my old summer clothes and was delighted to find that most of them fit and some were even too big!

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 23/06/2025 21:13

@frogpigdonkey you are indeed my weight loss twin. In both how much (40lbs loss for me) and we both started at a similar weight (14s 9lb for me). Let's get this three stone asap.

I've got another 2 stone to go, want to get to 9stone 9 and see what I decide after that.

TrinityWaves · 24/06/2025 08:28

W30D07
Loss this week: -0.2 lb (so really STS!)
SW: 263.4 lb (BMI43)
CW: 188.8 lb
TL: 74.6 lb
TW: 11st (BMI25)
Current dose: 10mg

ShrankLastWinter · 24/06/2025 09:14

CW 76.2kg. I've only lost 0.3kg in the last fortnight, which is my slowest ever, but my curve had been quite steep for two or three weeks before, so I suppose this is just evening that out. Weird, this whole process. Only 2.6kg to goal of 30 kg loss now.
