Welcome to thread 10 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we’ve successfully navigated Easter and head towards Summer Holiday Season. Stop here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W25 D1 and on my second 7.5mg pen

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 9lbs
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 44lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

Morning jabbers. Is anyone else feeling like they have a new wardrobe to choose from? I can now wear tops tucked into jeans, summer tops without worrying about my 2 bellies (because i only have 1 now) and can't wait to break out the summer dresses!

The scales are still stubbornly stuck but when the weather is this nice and I feel good in just a pair of jeans and a basic white tshirt, I'm not going to let it bother me! Hurrah for flip flop weather!

God love you. You are not shit. Are you using the app or a web browser? I only use a web browser as it is easier to follow (for me anyway) I tried to fill up the old thread to avoid anyone posting on it who might want a bit of support but then had my account temporarily stopped 😞

Sorry to hear you have been unwell but congratulations on losing 4 stone! Awesome result.

Obviously your GP said no - doesn't mean you stop there, can you go back to the consultant and ask him to prescribe? Or ask the practice head to review the clinical decision? Consultant advice in general does trump a GP's?

In fairness the GP said he absolutely wanted to prescribe but the criteria he has been given is -

BMI of over 40 (tick)

and unbelievably 4 co-morbidities (I have 2 that count, again they are very strictly defined)

im sorry but that criteria is probably someone who is literally at death’s door

i can afford to pay for it and my chemist has started prescribing so I can purchase there and be monitored by GP but I suppose my point is that several hospital consultants across 4 specialities all agree that I should have it but my GP can’t prescribe it.

it absolutely is a two tier system, them that can afford can have it, and my GP agrees that it is so very wrong. This is a life saving drug we are talking about, if the same prescribing parameters were applied to a diabetic drug for example then the public would be up in arms

Oh I hear you! Such a fab feeling! I've been invited to a lunch on a fancy boat at the end of the month - usually I would break out in a sweat wondering what to wear as it is fair to say the other wives are 'trophy' variety. This year I am thinking I don't need ANY shape wear and I MIGHT get my arms out.....

I'm looking at lymphatic drainage massages currently. Officially I am supposed to be trying to find a new accountant 😂

Have you checked the NICE guidelines? You only have the GP's word that those are the criteria.

@Bilbette

This is what I found. One comorbidity and a BMI of 35?

https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ta1026/chapter/1-Recommendations

i think these are local health authority guidelines rather than NICE

might even be across the whole NHS?

Edit - I’ve just checked notes on the NHS app from my GP visit, it says these are NHSE rules?

Mounjaropen · 30/04/2025 11:20

@Bilbette It's up to you but I'd always challenge (but I'm like that anyway..!)

So far the NHS has stated the reason they can't prescribe is because they don't have enough weight loss coaches/counsellors available. And herein lies the problem. The NHS knows it works and doesn't consider the cost/benefit analysis of sending resource to this area now in order to save cost in the long run. So yes, it is a travesty that plenty of people are missing out on something because they cannot afford a private prescription.

That's so rotten @bilbette and you're so right that if this was for a different chronic condition, there would be a lot more noise. Hopefully as more evidence emerges on how life changing mj is and the massive impact it can have on heart disease and diabetes, it will become more widely available. Doesn't help you right now though. If you have it in you keep fighting!

SerenePeer · 30/04/2025 11:51

Bilbette · 30/04/2025 11:01

Got it!

it’s on page 7

BMI over 40 and 4 co-morbidities

https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/PRN01879-interim-commissioning-guidance-implementation-of-the-nice-technology-appraisal-ta1026-and-the-NICE-fu.pdf

the GP wasn’t bullshitting, literally nobody is getting it in the first few years

Edited

With NHS England being scrapped, this might actually change...it will give local health authorities a bit more wiggle room to actually follow NICE and align their own local ICB guidelines to NiCE.

Ooooh lunch on a fancy boat! 😍 How fabulous!!! And yes, it's an absolute dream not having to build an outfit around shapewear. Do share your outfit choices so we can all live vicariously!

I feel a bit stuck and like the last half a stone will need some willpower and diet planning. Feeling annoyed I’m stuck at the very top of healthy bmi - if I put on 1lb I’m over weight so basically start each day healthy but by bed in “fat” again. Urgh. Eating has become disordered so I’m not eating enough in the day and binging at night (although binges are smaller so not gaining weight).

Gently this is really disordered thinking- you are just as healthy at night as you are in the morning. Either side of an arbitrary BMI line doesn't really mean anything. (Arguably everyone goes to bed with a higher BMI anyway as we lose height over the day due to gravity squashing our spine!)

Can you think about what you can do to nourish your body & be kind to it/yourself? Can you do some things that make you appreciate your body - walk somewhere beautiful that can only be reached on foot or lift some heavy weights 💪

(I appreciate that we are at very different stages as just being "overweight" still feels like a pipe dream to me so I hope I haven't spoken out of turn💐)

Even at my lightest, running a half marathon in 2 hours I felt “fat” so I can’t trust my eyes so I use bmi as a tool because that does work for me.

However I look at it, my weight hasn’t budged all month… it’s gone up 2lb, so I’m stuck in my mental danger zone. Having a grumpy day.

Well it's good you are recognising that your thinking is disordered. So that's the first positive. Secondly you only have 7lbs to go. Awesome!

weighing or measuring yourself at both the start or end of the day serves no purpose except to torment yourself. It is self-sabotage. You have worked really hard to get here so celebrate that.

The last amount to lose will always be the hardest. It does sound as if you are not eating enough protein early enough in your day to actually satiate your appetite and settle your insulin levels in order to prevent spikes which present as hunger and translate into your bingeing. I know you have a lot going on at home so try and be kind to yourself. Change things up. Start the day with eggs or similar and then make lunch lean protein and salad/greens. Drink plenty of water. Remove tempting crap from reach. Prep nice veggies/fruit so you grab those rather than a snickers/crisps. Make yourself some nice protein balls which feel like a treat such as these....

I'm sorry it's such a hard day @TeenLifeMum I have so much to lose you would imagine it would drop off me but I've had a month when I lost nothing at all & I've gained this week despite being firmly in deficit which I know is because I'm not sleeping/I'm very stressed. Bodies are bloody weird so I'm just trying to keep going. I hope you come out of your funk & can appreciate all you've achieved 💐

Thank you @Arglefraster it’s actually reassuring as every post is about continual losses and I feel like an outlier. I’m definitely tired and stressed. Df is having radiotherapy on his brain tumour today and dd1 (17) is in a wobbly place at the moment and I’m worrying about her. And dh snored last night so I slept on the sofa in a rage (sofa is actually super comfy).

Thank you - beautifully summarised and yes, I was eating breakfast but it slipped and I’m not sure why or when.

Eating veggie soup for lunch and avoiding the M&S food shop at work (and costa) then out for a walk around the park by the hospital. Onwards.

With NHS England being scrapped, this might actually change...it will give local health authorities a bit more wiggle room to actually follow NICE and align their own local ICB guidelines to NiCE.

They would still need to have funding for it in the short term to be able to prescribe it. The annual NHS prescribing budget will be fully committed for each trust and as this is a new drug it won’t be included unless they reduce levels of something else. What they should be campaigning for is additional funding for the first few years to bridge the gap between MJ now and the health benefits it will bring later down the line.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 30/04/2025 16:09

I suspect the government is deliberately dragging its feet over additional funding because they want to push as many people as possible into funding it privately before they have to cough up for it properly on a national scale. In a way, everyone on this thread funding it privately is doing their bit towards making the eventual NHS bill smaller. Still not fair, though!

It’s ICBs that decide commissioning already so nhs England going won’t make a difference (and regional nhs England will still exist with mostly the same people but be called department of health and social care regional team). It’s a rebrand with job cuts so Labour have something tangible to call their nhs change.

Arglefraster · 30/04/2025 16:59

Yeah @TeenLifeMumthat's a gigantic sandwich generation portion of stress.💐 You're doing nothing wrong your body just wants to hang onto its energy stores in case the stress is due to famine - it's trying to protect you. (Annoyingly!!)

I dug out my old bras recently and found that they are still a bit lacking in the cup size. And they were a 32I… 🙈

very envious of your bra size. I was only a 32f because of weight gain. I'm probably more of a b cup now. will updaate after my shopping trip on Friday. I probably should do a big online shop with different sizes to get a good fit. I've beenwearing some basic crop top things in the meantime, which don't give a lot of shape but are so comfortable.
