I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

Jab 2 for me today, I’ve had no side effects so far so bit apprehensive after seeing some posts here, but had a really hard day on Wednesday where I was so hungry all day. Then strangely yesterday I felt iok!

4lbs down though so all good. This weekends challenge is a long standing arrangement to go for dinner tomorrow night, I thought it was a 5 course tasting menu but it’s actually ten - portions will obviously be small but will I make it through it all??

Lidlbitofmonica · 02/05/2025 07:33

Just saw the update, will copy my post over to thread 2!

Has anyone seen the news this morning that pharmacies may be able to prescribe weight loss jabs for the cost of a prescription - as long as they meet the criteria - might come too late for us.

Week 2 day 2 feeling good this morning, motivated and using my Pinch of Nom books for my recipes - can highly recommend the creamy garlic chicken (the cream comes from low fat cream cheese into the sauce at the end - delicious)

Just looked this up. Catchy headline but when you read it their source is “Daily Mail” claiming that gov considering possibility of striking a deal with one of the big pharmaceutical companies to provide OTC with consultation. The word speculative is also used - I think this may happen but will be years.

NHS may offer weight loss jabs over the counter at pharmacies

It's claimed drugs like Ozempic could be available after a short consultation at a cost of £9.90 - broadening access to these jabs considerably.

Ugh. So, took first dose Sunday afternoon. Felt great. Tues morning woke up early hours with a migraine (had before) and feeling sick, ended up throwing up for hours, sweating, shaking, panic attack. Eventually managed to get back in bed and slept. Ok since but not really eating, since just protein shakes.

I have suffered from panic attacks in the past, and being sick with it like this in the past. And I'm wondering if the migraine was brought on by caffeine withdrawal (which I did in case it made me sick! Then being sick from anxiety.

Before I was sick I completely overhauled my food, spent Sunday making food for the fridge and food wise I feel really in control.

Lost half stone this week, but that's also stress as dad was rushed into hospital on Tues daytime. He's home now. He's 84.

So...my question is, do you think the anxiety worrying about being sick (and then making myself then sick) is worth it? Should I just try and loose weight without mj?

I've still got 1 stone to loose so it's not a lot. I've high cholesterol with being overweight and BMI of 28 which is how I got mj.

Can I do it without? Then not think evey few hrs am I feeling sick??

Edited

Tough side effects here, i get panic attacks too so i understand. Maybe halve the dose the next time and see how you feel? You can lose a stone easily by yourself if you put your mind to it. Have you been able to before? I have but regained it going back to bad habits and stopped exercising.

If it wasn't for the high cholesterol I wouldn't have been able to get MJ.
The weight has crept up post menopausal.
Always have been 10.5-11 stone as adult, but started going up about 2 years ago (I'm 53)
I loose half stone, get complacent eat rubbish and put more back on.
I've got the Chronometer app which is brilliant! So much better than fitness pal. I think maybe at my age, post menopausal hormones etc I just need to calorie count/track and weigh daily. So I can make any adjustments quickly.
If I calorie track I can also macro check too to make sure I'm upping my protein and vits. That plan feels so much better than going round in circles wether I should MJ or not, will I be sick etc etc.
It's so tough!

@Mels2025 so sorry to hear this. I suffer from migraines and they make me vomit badly, perhaps the MJ and the migraine caused the sickness, as well as the stress of your dad, which I know all too well also! Get the electrolytes into you and next week monitor to see if it happens again, good luck x

Crikeyalmighty · 02/05/2025 09:20

@Brunocatmon I had horrendous indigestion and waves of nausea on weeks 1 and 2 and 3 for 3 days - eased on week 4 - I have lost ok but nothing I couldn’t do myself on 1100 a day cals - so I am doing 2 months as it’s put me in the right head space but doing it on willpower and herbal appetite suppressants after that -

That sounds like a good plan. Even just a week on mj has put me in the right headspace too

Plus a lot of weight gain can be affected by gut problems, being sick lot's must put a strain on the gut biome.

Even post MJ , everyone has to go it alone eventually with diet and exercise.

I'm using Chronometer for serious calories and nutrients tracking. Plus electrolytes and exercise and the proper amount of protein with 30g per meal.

Plus Renpho scales and app.

I think I'll have more control of my body this way rather than on tender hooks for any SE on MJ and all the added anxiety

Crikeyalmighty · 02/05/2025 11:16

@Mels2025 yep - I appreciate for those who have few side effects if any it’s a good solution albeit not a cheap one- but I’ve never been a food noise person and I have good will power on lowish calories- I just get bored at about 2 months - however this time I’ve mixed it up a lot and I think persistence will be key - I’ve lost a few stone before in around 8 months so can do it again- I’ve learnt as well I need to weigh myself a lot more , as it’s far easier and quicker to put on a stone than get it off . I really can’t be arsed with dreading each time I inject if I’m going to have 3 days of indigestion and nausea and mainlining rennies - I’m pleased for those who it has been amazing for and I guess I thought I might get lucky and it would just melt away fat with no noticeable quality of life side effects but it hasn’t been the case for me. So I’m as of next week on the herbal Berberin tablets which I can take as an aid, as and when - used before and did help keep appetite down but not stupidly so and I lost at a similar weight to now. I guess it’s a really individual thing -

I was thinking the same. I'm managing really well on 2.5ml but obviously it's only week one.

I've got full suppression so my concern is that if I don't ill just go back to bad habits.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/05/2025 14:56

@Brunocatmon yep for me personally I don’t want to ‘not eat’ because I feel sick or stuffed. I wanted to get myself in a headspace that I could stick on 1100 or 1200 , keep portions right down, chug down the water and up the excercise a little ( I walk a lot as I dont drive- but not much else) and I think I needed a kick start and it’s done that ok - but long term it wouldn’t work for me as an enjoyable way of living not to want/enjoy food- so at some point I was always going to have to stop - but given the fact I’m not losing quicker than I would anyway and with side effects on a very low dose , have decided it’s not for me -

TheSilentSister · 02/05/2025 15:00

Just done my 2nd jab.
SW - 12st 3lbs (i thought I was 12st as been stuck on that weight for months but when I weighed right b4 1st jab it had crept up). Diagnosed pre-diabetes.
CW - 11st 11lbs
WL - 6 lbs, which is amazing but I haven't really eaten much, which I suppose is the whole point, no appetite. This hot weather helps with the liquids, drinking tons of squash.
The biggest bonus is no joint pain but that came back yesterday, before 2nd dose. No really bad side affects either - yet.

So now W2D1.

Sorry to hear about people experiencing bad side affects. It's early days so hoping they settle eventually for you all.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/05/2025 15:55

@mels well I hesitate to recommend anything as lots would recommend Mounjaro but certainly herbal suppressants was a good ‘aid’ ‘for me ‘ when I lost a fair bit before - as I simply wasn’t as hungry and ate less. I do however have good willpower and can easily stick to 1100 or 1200 cals a day with or without them and I don’t graze or snack - when I did find them useful was meals out or holidays etc when it was tempting to go well over - it kept me in check - mine are around £38 for a months supply - there are lots of different brands.easy to find on Amazon - I only go for anything made in EU - I think the big thing is that mounjaro is very good at stopping food noise and most it seems just don’t feel much need to eat much - so it suits people for whom that’s the biggest issue . Grazing/snacking etc - and good luck to those who feel well on it and lose well - maybe if I had lost say a stone plus. in 1st month I might feel it’s worth gritting my teeth but I’ve lost more like 8lb - and think I can do that without it at far less cost .
