I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

@ymemanresu this has been huge for me too. I did same when I had lunch with DH and had to ask for a glass of ice to water it down. No desire for a second glass. I’ve had less wine in the last week than I would have in a typical day (and that was most days if I’m honest since this is anonymous) before Mounjaro. I have no doubt that more studies will come out in the next few years and confirm this as a treatment for alcoholism and other additions as I’ve read so much anecdotal evidence around this already.

I’m reading about this too, i hope it will be a breakthrough and help the millions who struggle with alcohol and drug addiction. I’ve wanted to cut back for so long, totally sick of alcohol and want to be healthier

Gabby10 · 01/05/2025 08:23

I’m sure it’s more of a ‘in my head’ as it’s only about 15/16 hours since taking my first dose but it took me about 40 mins to drink my 2nd cup of coffee this morning- as someone who can normally have my morning 2 in about 20 minutes it felt weird. I didn’t feel sick or anything just a bit ‘oh yeah it’s here so I’ll finish it’ type feeling. And yes I know that drinking a 40 min old cold coffee shows that I now have no appreciation of coffee because the me before a child would never dream of drinking a coffee even warm never mind cold 🤣.

@SelttanIf it helps at all, I had to check the needle was actually in as I didn’t feel it 🤦🏼‍♀️ Good luck!!

Might not be all in your head Gabby10, as i had super strong suppression within 10 hours and could barely manage anything other than water. Wasn’t feeling sick, just no desire to eat. or even drink the beloved morning coffees.

I think for some this kicks in really hard and fast, and for some it takes a stronger dose to build up to this point.

Gabby10 · 01/05/2025 08:27

@ymemanresuI would imagine it works alongside all the hormones that alcohol does. My ex is in recovery and he was on medication at one point and the main side effect with that (bar not wanting to drink) was appetite suppression. He ended up having to come off them as he’s type 1 diabetic and couldn’t control his sugars as he couldn’t eat. It wouldn’t surprise me if some of the ingredients in that medication are what are also in MJ.

Gabby10 · 01/05/2025 08:29

@MsRicolettiFingers crossed then! Although I’ll be honest I think I’m more likely to eat better just thinking I have suppression if that makes sense. I could probably inject water and think the same- maybe I should have tried that first, saved myself some money 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

Very interesting, did the cravings come back or has he managed to control it another way?

lastditchattempt50 · 01/05/2025 08:41

W1D4 for me and no want of wine/alcohol here either and I even declined going to the pub after our dog walk yesterday, its very strange but I like it, I feel so in control.

I'm hoping I can get to a point I used to be at where I can enjoy a nice glass of wine without going overboard

Ate a bit more yesterday, had a big Subway salad for lunch (nothing for breakfast) and was surprised I ate it all as heard people saying they are full after a few mouthfuls / small plate of food. I didn't want anything else rest of the day and made myself have a protein bagel about 9pm as my total calories since Monday was only around 2900 (normally eaten more than that in one day before MJ!)

Keep reading that day 5 is the hardest so bracing myself for tomorrow, doesn't help that it falls on a Friday which would ordinarily be lots of wine and takeaway day - eek - I need to stay strong 🤔

Gabby10 · 01/05/2025 08:43

@ymemanresuThey did but took longer than I expected. He could go weeks without but then drink that much in a few days he’d be in hospital. It averaged every 6 weeks. I think he was on the medication around 2 months and then went another 3 months off the medication before having a drink so it did help at the time.

@Flowerchild547I took second dose yesterday and have also woken feeling extremely nauseous, to the point of retching (sorry tmi) for the first time. I know it’s expected so hoping I can work through it today and get some calories in even though I don’t want anything. Can’t even face my usual morning coffee.

I took my second dose last night. Also woke up feeling nauseous this morning (didnt after the first jab), and that mild headache I had after the first jab. However I did feel a little nauseous yesterday prejab so im not sure if the heat is having an effect alongside mj. Im not usually affected by the heat but I have noticed a strange increase in smell since having mj also so it seems to having some strange effects all round.
Im hoping this nausea will wear off as the day goes on, hope it does for you too.

MsRicoletti · 01/05/2025 08:50

I’ve been wondering and musing about day 5 /6 / 7 appetite increase …

I barely ate in my first week until about day 6 and 7… so my body was in quite severe calorie deficit for about 5 days. and I did get hungry day 6 and 7, with low energy and general feelings of floppiness and meh.

im wondering if I am more able to get loads of protein in and eat more calories spread over this week before I get to the few days before my next jab, if that will be different?

So, im experimenting this week, having protein shakes and focusing on protein goals , to see if this helps with hunger in final few days of week 2.

im thinking about how calories and protein consumed over a week might affect my general hunger levels and feelings of low blood sugar/ floppiness / energy levels toward the end of the week as opposed to what I eat daily.

its not a very controlled experiment obvs, as my levels of the drug are higher given the build unit MJ and half life… but I wondered if anyone has any thoughts on this?

ymemanresu · 01/05/2025 08:56

Is anyone else finding that the weight loss is quicker when drinking a lot more water?

AdotHam · 01/05/2025 08:57

Hi everybody!
Wondering if anyone else has had tricky nighttime stuff? I have had almost panic attack symptoms of racing heart and insomnia the last couple of nights. I’m W2 D4 and been quite lucky with side effect up till now but this was a bit scary.

I’ve had health anxiety for years so not sure if my that is contributing and adding adrenalin to the situation and making things worse. Feeling pretty low this morning since I definitely can’t keep going if this is going to be a long term effect… I’m so tired 😪

Yes i did the first night of taking this drug, bad panic and racing heart all night. I stupidly had drunk that day too, had you? First week i had one bad nightmare and vivid dreams, nothing like this on the second week. Good luck, panic attacks are so frightening.

Sorry you’re feeling rough @wlinewbie0425- hope this improves quickly.

I’m W2D1 today - just jabbed for the second time and the plunger was easier (I guess I was more ready for it this time). I was still a little nervous, but not shaking today! Haha.

SW 12st 7.5
CW 12st 3.1
GW 8st 10 (this is what Juniper suggested, I will review if I begin to look scrawny - was always a good weight for me but I’m a bit older now)
F60 (61 at the weekend) 5’3”

Fist week was not too bad at all. No noticeable side effects. Worked well (I think) days 1 - 4, increasing willpower needed 5 - 7, but manageable as less food noise.

I’m off on holiday tomorrow, for two weeks. I will continue this journey on holiday!

Bon courage à tous 💪

@AbundanceofKatherines I have the same stats and only a couple of days out. I am also going on holidays in a few weeks so I will watching out for your posts.

Does anyone know if you can get MJ in the Canary Islands, presume you would need a prescription too but would it be cheaper?

Thanks for replying 🙏, glad to know I'm not the only one. I hadn't drunk yesterday but wondering if the heat meant I didn't have enough regular fluids? Yes really frightening, just hoping they'll pass.

I find deep breathing and a few drops of lavender oil helps.

Hi AdotHam, I’ve had one bad night similar to this … scary dreams and frequent panicked waking up with racing heart, restless all night.
I worked out that I hadn’t drank nearly enough water that day… I was defo dehydrated as (sorry TMI) my wee was super strong and I also had a headache.

Ive started drinking electrolytes twice a day, and this has resolved. I think dehydration has been a big part of this for me.

Paranta · 01/05/2025 09:12

Has anyone felt much more thirsty on WLI? I never was a big drinker, but now I seem to be wanting water much more often. Don't know if now that my hunger is a bit suppressed (still in week 1) my body is recognising thirst, which it never seemed to do before.

Catherhino · 01/05/2025 09:13

Hi all, I’ve had a busy few days so I’ve not been able to keep up with posts on here!
Today is my 2nd injection, so I’ve completed a week. I’ve lost 2.5lb. I’m pleased with that, given my eating habits haven’t changed much at all - still eaten 3 meals a day, some snacking but tried to be more mindful about eating healthily and not over-eating. Wondering if suppression will kick in a bit more with dose 2 or if it won’t kick in until I go up to 5ml? No side effects though which is good!
Also, I realised I accidentally locked my sharps bin last week!! I thought to myself oh I must make sure I close this lid firmly for safely - I didn’t realise that was locking it and now I can’t reopen it to dispose of my 2nd needle!!! What should I do?! I’ve wrapped it in a sheet of kitchen paper and stuffed it into a zip lock bag for now, but eeeek!! Why would that obstruction be in small print on the box?!

Nearlyhadenough · 01/05/2025 09:13

First jab was Monday. I’m finding my head is fighting my stomach!

I’ve just eaten a protein porridge pot and half way through wondered why I was continuing to eat. All good. BUT my head says not to waste food and eat it all. Which I did and now feel full and bloated….

Really need to re-educate myself.

Thanks so much @MsRicoletti . I'll definitely try this, are there any particular electrolytes that you would suggest? In the meantime, more water it is!

wlinewbie0425 · 01/05/2025 09:21

@Catherhino I did exactly the same with the sharps box as have never used a needle before and had no idea. I’ve put my used needles wrapped in the wrapper from the wipe in a zip lock back too so far but ordered a new sharps bin from UKmedi with my extra syringes for golden dose.

They really need to put that in big letters in the instruction email at least for newbies! Must be so many wasted locked empty sharps bins!

I agree about addiction.

I had my last cigarette on Sunday and I've not bought another pack. It's only a few days but fingers crossed it continues!
