I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

If it helps, Chunky. I've read quite a few threads about the injections and nobody has ever said they've found it painful! Most people say they can't even feel it.

Chunkysewist · 22/04/2025 17:14

That's good to know! I'm ok with needles in general but I'm a bit squeamish at injecting myself 🙈 I just want this weight off and I'm really hoping mounjaro is the answer.

Honestly, it doesn’t even look/feel like a proper needle. It’s really short and very thin. I expected a little sting at the very least, but I honestly couldn’t feel it. I think it helps that you have to inject it into a squishy area 🤣

TheNinthLock · 22/04/2025 17:20

Hello, can i join? I started last Thursday, so am only on day 6. (or is it 5, do we count the day we injected?)

How is it so far?

Catherhino · 22/04/2025 17:29

Hello! I’ve just received my first pen today. Excited to start but want to make sure the timing is right. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about side effects, but trying to ignore!

YippeeAbsentmindedly · 22/04/2025 17:30

Ninth I injected at this time last night, I'm counting today as day 1.

Chunkysewist · 22/04/2025 17:34

I'm looking forward to sharing everyone's progress 😊 we can go through the highs and lows together 😁

Same here, there's a few scary stories out there but it seems largely positive.

I've had an email saying they want a video consultation so it's delayed. It can only be because I had my gall bladder out in 2017. Disappointed as id really worked myself up to start asap and they didn't have a slot until may 8th 😔

Lol I do have a few super squishy areas to choose from! 🙈😂

Oh no, that's disappointing, especially when you gear yourself up for it 😔

Apparently my friend lied about having hers out and her injection is on its way 😌 oh well I guess I can keep trying in the interim

It's probably best to have been honest. I suspect a friend of mine lied about having her gallbladder out too.

MsRicoletti · 22/04/2025 17:42

@Emotionalfuckwit I hope you get your delivery soon. It’s so annoying to have to wait , especially when you have geared up for it!

YippeeAbsentmindedly · 22/04/2025 17:44

I agree with Chunky. I have seen posts from people taking MJ who have had their gallbladder out so it doesn't stop you being able to take it, you may just have to have more monitoring or adjust your dose slightly. Better to be monitored, they ask for a reason!

Chunkysewist · 22/04/2025 17:46

Is anyone planning to do the 5th dose thing I keep hearing about? The "golden dose"?

Jackreacherstrousers · 22/04/2025 17:46

Hello, I'd like to join you all. I am expecting my first pen at the end of this week.
I'm 5ft 7 and 58 yrs old. I am currently the heaviest and most unfit I have ever been ( thank you hip osteoarthritis Confused) I am waiting on a date for a hip replacement but I know losing some weight beforehand will assist my recovery.

Ooh I know nothing of this… is this an extra dose as well as the regular weekly ones?

Well apparently after your four doses there is enough left in the pen for a 5th dose. Some people have been able to force the pen to do another jab but most use 1ml insulin needles to get it out. Apparently 0.6ml is the dose 🤷 I don't know yet if I'm brave enough to try but it does appeal to me.

Oh that’s interesting. I’m pretty sure I’m not brave enough to be messing about with extracting and extra needles. But, I might be tempted to fiddle with the pen to get an extra dose tho… that’s quite a saving if doing it longer term.

Apparently, after you do the 4th dose, there is still enough solution left in the pen for a further dose. Some people can get it out with the pen, others use insulin needles. It's often slightly more than the 0.6ml dose of 2.5mg, so a stepping stone as such before you go up to 5mg.

I will be trying it!

Keep us posted, this is a great hack!

Chunkysewist · 22/04/2025 18:18

Defo keep us updated! I've got the needles in my amazon basket ready 😁
Is everybody calorie counting etc during mounjaro? I plan to log on mfp just to make sure i don't under eat by too much....never imagined that would be a problem I could have 😂
