Mounjaro Feb 2025 starters (thread 5!)

Welcome to the latest thread, all WL warriors welcome as always.

Congrats to us all for our achievements and NSVs so far. And props for all the support, encouragement and kindnesses throughout.

Feel we’re breaking the back of this now! Base camp is firmly in our rear view and we’re climbing on … will some start to see the summit in the distance, over the course of this thread? That is pretty darn exciting!

No matter what your pace, and if you’ve lost a microwave, a tin of paint or 192,000 bees: well done!

xx

Thanks @SpiralSister I think that’s the problem, I’ve always been the bigger one, always. Physically I’m taller than both of them and I’ve always been the fat one. Now I’m not and my mother especially can’t stand it.

I haven’t told anyone else and I won’t be telling anyone else. I’m 105 days in and I’ve only lost 20lb so it’s very slow weight loss for me. But that probably works in my favour in terms of not raising eyebrows with super quick losses.

Mounjaronewbie25 · 01/06/2025 14:26

@MynameisJune my family are really on it today. Have had to leave the room. None of them know I’m on Mounjaro. But the constant talk of diets and people’s weights and opinions on what they think I should and shouldn’t be eating are driving me mad!

I also have always been the ‘fat’ one. They’ve never had a problem with their weight but talk about it all the time.

Ke11 · 01/06/2025 14:38

@Mounjaronewbie25 I get how you feel. Someone in my family said to me yesterday that they stopped eating tomatoes because they were "bad" and sweetcorn because of the sugar content. Couldn't tell me what was so bad about the tomato though. I assume it's something they've read on Facebook.

Weird question but does anyone else not have a proper mental idea of how big/small they are now? What I mean is, when I'm out and about I'll look at a gap e.g between cars in a car park or people in a busy area, and know I'm too big to fit. Now I fit through smaller gaps but in my brain I hasn't learnt what that is yet. It's lead to a couple of interesting situations where I've thought people walking towards me were going to bump into me but missed completely. I know my stomach and butt have shrunk quite a bit but to my brain I still feel the same size.

Mounjaronewbie25 · 01/06/2025 14:45

@Ke11 it definitely takes the brain a while to catch up! I keep going to lift the size 20 clothes in the shop thinking the 16 and 18s won’t fit, but in reality the 20s are far too big and baggy.

A relative of mine today was holding my son and talking to him in that voice people use for babies. What they said was along the lines of "And your mummy’s lost lots of weight hasn’t she? But she had all that pregnancy fat to lose didn’t she?”

It’s like they can’t give a compliment without cutting you down a bit in the same sentence 🙄

Lola50 · 01/06/2025 14:47

@MynameisJune People are dreadful, but it’s all their own issues. My mother - no longer alive - talked endlessly about weight/food/diets. What I learned from that was wholly negative and, truly, only just starting to be undone with MJ.
You’re doing what is good for you - keep that at the forefront. All the naysayers are just noise

@Mounjaronewbie25 WOW! Awful experience. What a thoroughly unpleasant woman. When people behave like that, I always think about how dreadful they must be to live with. Takes a lot of energy to be that unlikeable. Sounds like she is smashing it.

skyscrapersinging · 01/06/2025 15:14

Oh wow. That’s so mean. I’m astonished at the stuff that comes out of people’s mouths about weight and food.

Mounjaronewbie25 · 01/06/2025 15:15

@Lola50 ahh yes she’s in her 80s and no filter lol. Forever comes out with stuff like that. Once on holiday a woman walked past us and relative said (rather loudly) "Newbie at least you’re not as obese as her" 🤦🏽‍♀️

Was just lurking on the January thread and they are talking about how soft their elbows are. Apparently it's a common Mounjaro side effect. My elbows are also softer.

And forgive me for sounding anal but I wish we saw the threads through to 1000.

Soft elbows? Like the bone has gone soft?

Zibb · 01/06/2025 19:55

I've never thought about the softness of my elbows before... But they are indeed very soft! Strange. Must quiz people about my elbows pre-mj.

No, the skin 😁

MynameisJune · 01/06/2025 19:58

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 01/06/2025 19:57

No, the skin 😁

Oh!! I’ve always had quite soft skin on my elbows anyway so can’t feel any difference there. What a weird side effect 😂

Crikeyalmighty · 01/06/2025 20:00

I don’t think all the softer skin bits including elbows are MJ - my suspicion is because people are drinking an awful lot more water . Lots of people actually didn’t drink any . I found the same when ilost2 stone without MJ

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 01/06/2025 20:03

I have always drunk a lot of water so that couldn't have caused the difference for me.

I'm looking forward to June goals. I should say goodbye to the 7x kgs, hello to the 15x lbs and should have less than a stone to go to goal. Hitting all the different weight measurements there...

strongermummy · 02/06/2025 11:57

Softer elbows??!! What a wonderful side effect. Surely must be to do with extra hydration ?!

Seventyandcounting · 02/06/2025 15:40

Hi all, I’m due 13th jab tomorrow and kind of dreading it. I reduced dose last week to 3.75 from 5mg last week in the hopes of reducing nausea and exhaustion which I get for 3 days every week but it hasn’t made any difference. I have tried seasickness tablets and rennie but have great difficulty keeping meds down as they come straight back up. Some of the medications are quite expensive so has anyone tried anything with good results. I am also going on holiday in a few weeks and don’t want to feel bad when I’m away, any suggestions?

Sorry to read this. I tbink this is why many have come off the medication. People like the author Stephen fry could not deal with the side effects beyond a certain point

worth discussing with your prescriber. As I know some get anti sickness meds to help them. Not sure what else is available

Best of luck

mumandgran24 · 04/06/2025 07:11

Is it worth trying a different injection site. For me changing to injecting in my thigh reduced my nausea to either nothing or a tiny bit now and again on the first day. I went back to the stomach once to retry and the nausea was back. I did not have it as bad as you describe though.

Crikeyalmighty · 29/05/2025 11:11

@ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret I genuinely believe those who will keep the weight off without having to use MJ ad infinitum will be those who have allowed themselves to still feel hunger at plenty of points and genuinely changed habits and exercise and learnt to lean on willpower ‘at some points. ‘ My biggest change will be to weigh myself a couple of times a week so that half a stone can be nipped in the bud by stringent calorie and portion control and 20 minutes proper excercise a day , it’s a damn sight easier than trying to lose 4 stone etc .

In the past I found intermittent fasting to be a good tool for weight loss, but I reached a plateau where things didn’t change for a couple of months and I came off for a holiday and never restarted it. So I am thinking I may use that once at target. I found fasting somehow is easier that sticking to small portions. Just having a small late lunch and evening meal, low carb and high protein.

so my plan is once at target to tail off the dosage then try one or two fast days a week to keep on top of my days when the cravings get the best of me. Also keeping up with exercise. I have also been looking at my portion sizes currently even photos of them so I can aim for same portions after I come off.

finally if I have to I will go back to MJ for short periods. But I think with watching my weight and acting straight away if it starts to creep up again I can keep on top of it. As other posters have said easier to get rid of half a stone than 5 or 6

Febnewbie · 04/06/2025 08:19

I think the research is increasingly suggesting that to keep the weight off the biggest thing will be just staying on the medication.

It definitely is easier to maintain weight than lose it some of us may manage that. I think for me a big factor in weight gain was stretchy clothes in lockdown and I think going back to caring more about what I wear and wearing more tailored clothing will help with it.

But while I will try titrating down and stopping, I do think realistically I may need to accept being on MJ for life and I am kinda ok with that.

Crikeyalmighty · 04/06/2025 10:34

@mumandgran24 yep I’m off MJ at the moment as to be honest my willpower is good and I don’t need suppression - it did give me a good kickstart though for 6 weeks - what I always needed was consistency - I managed 2 stone 5 in 7 months a couple of years ago so I can do the same I think - as you rightly say I think a big thing is actually keeping a close eye on it - low carb high protein works for me as does IF and a couple of excercise classes a week - something I hadn’t done before - I’m still losing ok without MJ - I honestly think a lot of this is a very individual thing - if you aren’t a snacker and have good willpower I think consistency over a longer term period is key and I know myself that’s what I lacked -
