Mounjaro? Is it worth it?

I’ve been thinking of giving Mounjaro a go, have done a lot of research and not sure who to go with? Any recommendations?

It’s any weight loss, however the method, not the medication itself. It can happen on any calorie restricted diet. You can try to avoid it by keeping weight loss to 1 to 2 pounds a week, although there’s no guarantee it will prevent it. But it is usually temporary and short lived, if it happens.

Allseeingallknowing · 06/05/2025 16:51

I’m considering cancelling my order. I can’t go through hair loss.

Sounds like a plan if hair loss is a make or break issue for you, and you really don't want to take the chance of it happening.

Allseeingallknowing · 06/05/2025 17:12

I’ve messaged the online doctor about it. It is a dealbreaker for me!

I have lost more weight in the past than I did on MJ and have never lost hair. Whilst on MJ I lost an average of 1.3lbs per week for 4 months, so not rapid weight loss at all. More and more people are complaining of significant hair loss and not much weight loss, so there has to be some basis for thinking the MJ contributes to that. It does disrupt hormones, so it would make sense.

Rockdaylia44 · 08/05/2025 09:17

I'm having hair loss since started MJ I'm probably going to stop it as now have a bald patch starting

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 11/05/2025 20:33

Can you still drink alcohol?
Does it effect the contraceptive pill?
Been considering MJ for a couple of months now

SilenceInside · 11/05/2025 20:50

@NeedthatFridayfeeling yes you can still drink alcohol but you might find that you don’t want to. Yes it can interfere with the contraceptive pill as it slows digestion.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 11/05/2025 20:59

Ah ok thank you that’s good to know, I’ll do some research on that, don’t want the pill failing.

It is brilliant, but sadly I lost more hair than weight, so I stopped!

Oh no. Was thinking bout trying this but my hairs thinning already post menopause. Was it a lot of hair you lost? I can’t really afford to loose much more hair 😞

Rockdaylia44 · 11/05/2025 21:42

My hair is falling out on Mounjaro had such high hopes but only few llb Loss in 10 wks not worth the high cost

PrivateMum222 · 11/05/2025 21:44

Well worth it for me… lost over 4 stone. No more food noise is the biggest win!! Now at 9st 7Ibs and feel AMAZING! What I pay for in prescription, I save on food tbh.

Roundbale · 12/05/2025 16:06

My friend used the other injection, cheaper. I think on reflection as long as they switch off food noise and appetite the dual action of mountjaro and constipation my issue. But hands down don't hesitate. I was so worried about. Dying!!. I had cold hands, tired, and they resolved week 2. Ongoing slow transition bowel and have to use bowel stimulants 2 times a week .can't say it's changed my drinking when out. Binge still and eat crap after and during but keeping this to once every month and hope less. Now my face is wrinkly so I had my first time aged 51 one filler and 2 areas Botox as sagging face skin as lost 20 pounds in 10 weeks so don't go for the strongest needle injection drug as it needs to be slow to mind your face

Roundbale · 12/05/2025 16:09

Use IQ doctor after numan . Shop around and change suppliers

TheMumEdit · 12/05/2025 16:11

I tried but my BMI wasn’t high enough. They are quite strict with checking. So I’m fat but not fat enough!

Definately save overall or at least break even. Been on since Feb and only had one take away since then as hubby wanted it and barely ate anything lol.

I’m sorry, I’ve only just seen your question. I probably lost 40-50% of my hair. I was lucky as I had a lot to start with so it’s not been noticeable to anyone except me, but it’s definitely the medication and the fact I’m still losing it now, 8 months on from stopping (albeit not as much) is just rubbish.

Bertha393 · 01/06/2025 19:36

can u guarantee no hair Loss? can you guarantee no sickly side effects?

No, of course not. Hair loss is a risk from any weight loss programme and about 1 in 10 get nausea or similar on Mounjaro.

Wowzel · 01/06/2025 20:22

I've lost quite a lot of hair now too, I really hope it grows back.

What happens when/if BMI drops below 30?

Personally, I’ll have a small celebration and feel totally thrilled for a fair while. I’m very nearly there.

The point of the medication is to get you to a healthy weight, so you continue to take it until you get to a healthy weight (BMI under 25, or lower depending on ethnicity). With Mounjaro, you can continue taking the medication indefinitely if you need to, to maintain your healthy weight. Or you can choose to stop if you’re able to maintain your weight without it. Depends on the individual and their prescriber.

OrlandointheWilderness · 01/06/2025 23:00

I started October and I’m nearly 6 stone down. I cannot put into words the effect it has had on me- it’s saved me. Be warned it isn’t always an easy ride and for me the nausea is pretty unpleasant but bloody worth it!
