I’ve been thinking of giving Mounjaro a go, have done a lot of research and not sure who to go with? Any recommendations?

Oh gosh. Is that a side effect?

It can be a side effect from losing weight by any means, not specific to MJ. I’ve lost a lot of volume in my hair, but tbh it can grow back. I’m far better off not being obese than with a thick head of hair so it’s not put me off! However I did start with a very full head of hair and it’s not noticeable to anyone other than me when I put my hair in a pony tail and I can do an extra loop.

It is for a lot of people, yes. Not all though, you might be lucky and escape it. A lot of people say it’s down to the rapid weight loss, but there is increasing evidence to suggest it can also be attributed to the medication itself, which it definitely was in my case. I lost a stone and a half over 4 months, so very steadily. The hair loss started 2 months after I started and is only beginning to slow down now. I started in June 2024 and stopped taking it late September. The kind of hair loss is called Telogen Effluvium if you want to research it. Thankfully it’s temporary (in most cases) but it’s incredibly stressful to experience. If I had the chance again and knew how bad it would be, I’d never have taken MJ.

Started in mid Feb and have lost 1 stone 6lb and feel better than I have in years. Everyones experience of the side effects is different though some get almost nothing but most get some level of nausea in the first few weeks I found the first few weeks it was a bit uncomfortable the first day after my injection then I felt fine after that and now don't really get any side effects, but I am about to increase my dose so it may get worse again lol. Some people get bowel issues either constipation or diarrhoea but good advise is to make sure you eat plenty of fibre and protein whilst on the drug and lots and lots of water.

I would say to anyone if you are obese and have tried every diet going over the years and fight food noise and thinking about food constantly all day then this drug is worth a try it really is lifechanging. BUT be aware if any thyroid cancer runs in your family best to avoid as well as any history of gallstones as these are two of the rare side effects listed. TBH gallstones can be a risk of weight loss anyway.

You need to understand like any medication even diabetics taking insulin there is a risk. I weighed the risk of my age my weight and the fact I was clearly on a path the diabetes and heart problems like my Dad had and I looked at my kids and new grandchild and wanted a better future and more time with them.

Good luck whatever you decide and however you choose to get healthier.

Absolutely I’ve lost 64lbs since September 4 stone 8lbs, got another 4-5 stone to lose. Worth every penny. I bought a size 18 trousers yesterday, stretchy but still 🤩 I was at 26-28.

Notsurename · 13/04/2025 17:49

Don’t post codes on this topic. There is a separate thread for codes. Thank you.

Apologies 😢

KazzaV · 13/04/2025 19:08

Definitely have lost 3 stone since 2 Jan with virtually no side effects - bit if dry mouth but can live with that !!

lemmein · 13/04/2025 19:24

I’m on my 4th week and have lost nearly a stone and a half with very little effort. I eat mainly gousto 10 minute meals, still have breakfast and have an occasional protein pot/sandwich through the day if I’m hungry. I don’t count calories at all but am definitely snacking less and have had only one takeaway since I started (curry!) I work long hours so my downfall has always been snacking and last minute takeaways when I cba cooking but I just haven’t fancied takeouts at all so it’s not felt like a deprivation.

I haven’t had any side-effects at all, luckily, but I’m still on 2.5 so that might change. Overall it’s definitely been worth it so far - I’m really happy with it.

Definitely worth it - I feel so much better having lost 2.5 stones, started Parkrun and not any significant side effects - best decision I ever made. I use ZAVA - very happy with their service.

Depends.

I’ve lost weight on MJ slowly. About 1 lb a week. No miracles! I’ve Lost 20 lbs over 20 weeks. Still 20 lbs to go.

I perhaps could have lost 20 lbs on a traditional diet - at least I did that on Noom 2 years ago.

However I put it all back on - and at my age - 63 - I just can’t do another “diet”. Over the last 20 years I’ve done them all and I’ve gained and lost the same 2 - 3 stone several times.

I already ate healthily, and under 1500 calories, so I believe there is something not working in my metabolism. The only way to lose weight previously was to be obsessive and eat 1000 calories every day (which left me hungry).

If you can lose weight to healthfully without using MJ or other medication, then obviously that is better. But for those of us who have tried everything, this seems to be extremely helpful for some and at least somewhat helpful for others (like me).

Hi can I ask you where you buy your MJ from? I'm on 2.5mg and want to stay on it but I had a discount code for my first order and now its the full price.

WombTangClan · 28/04/2025 10:23

Yes. 7st down since August.

Daffodilpup · 28/04/2025 10:26

Wow. This is all amazing and very tempting (dependent on price) how do you get it prescribed from the doctor? Or is this not possible?

also when you’ve lost the weight and stopped the injections, does the weight stay off?

SilenceInside · 28/04/2025 10:41

@Daffodilpup

How do you get it prescribed from the doctor? Or is this not possible?

You don't get it prescribed from an NHS GP (at least, very very rarely and only for people who are morbidly obese with weight related health issues), it's a private prescription from an online pharmacy (you can see a list of regulated pharmacies at https://monj.co.uk ) You need to have a BMI of 30 or more, or a BMI of 27 or more with a weight related health condition, or a BMI of 27 or more whilst being one of a list of ethnicities where "obese" is classified as 27 or more.

Also when you’ve lost the weight and stopped the injections, does the weight stay off?

It's the same as any other weight loss approach, there's nothing medical that will prevent weight gain. If you revert to your previous overeating habits and lack of exercise levels, then you will gain weight again.

Do you have to go through the whole questionnaire, provide ID, video of you getting on scales and video consultation again though, if you swap pharmacy? Like starting from scratch?

Yes but to save £40/60 it’s worth it

tajes 5/10mins

Rockdaylia44 · 28/04/2025 14:52

I really wanted it to work but only lost a few llbs in 8 week's also bit worried as my hair is starting to fall out too 🥲🥲gutted

Crikeyalmighty · 28/04/2025 15:01

@Ohwowo I am just starting week 4 and whilst I am 7lbs down- I think I would be on a careful carb/ calorie control diet too - I also feel sick 3 days a week on it all day- I have been incredibly careful too on what I eat - so 1150 a day in the week , 1400 at weekends- so it’s not a miracle worker for everyone it seems- although I was 4 stone overweight , I also think I had very little water weight to lose as had already lost 2 stone18 months ago and my lower legs totally shrank at that time.

It is brilliant, but sadly I lost more hair than weight, so I stopped!

This is what is putting me off. My hair is thin enough as it is!

Is that the same with Ozempic etc ?

SilenceInside · 06/05/2025 16:35

Yep, it’s the weight loss not the medication.

To my knowledge it is a common consequence of all GLP1/Semaglutide medications. I don't know if some are worse than others.
