New thread as I am sure we will fill thread 2 up by the end of today!

Welcome back everyone and well done for all the losses. Some have 5-6 stone to lose, some have 2 stone and me I have put 4 stone but looking at the BMI chart I could lose 6 stone and still be in the healthy range.

Oh sorry I forgot to ask, is the ‘suppression’ you all mention the feeling of fullness? Or is it a different thing? Just so I can understand my own side effects and what to expect

It’s a mix of things for me

  1. fullness - for me I felt like I was 10 months pregnant first couple of days on 2.5 mg and again at 5mg for a day or two, Almost like being super bloated without bloat
  2. brain is not hungry - when suppression is at it strongest I can look in the cupboard/fridge but don’t actually feel like eating
  3. when you eat you are super full after a few bites almost like you had a massive Xmas dinner but actually only 2 pieces of chicken
  4. you feel like you want to eat healthy and snacking disappears completely , have some food aversions

i don’t think a day or two of very less k calories is hurting but I do make sure I drink plenty of water . I now also drink a protein shake in the morning so at least I got some calories and protein into me. When eating I focus on protein fiber and have prunes or dates with each meal which has so far kept me regular.

That’s interesting, I felt bloated but wasn’t, plus the nausea and feeling full, didn’t want to touch food but still thought about it. I’d like the brain to stop wanting bad food especially cakes, chocolate etc as I always eat healthy dinners. I’m glad to have had some reaction today 🙏🏼🤣 will have to see how I go as the week goes on.

I’ve got some chicken and sweet potato in the oven to have with some salad. I can normally easily go all day without eating, then I’ll have a normal dinner and end up binging late in the evening. The binging is the thing I want to stop 🙏🏼

Thanks for letting me know how you’re finding it ☺️

soupforbrains · 09/04/2025 20:20

Yes. Suppression is short for ‘appetite suppression’ one of the intended affects of this medication. For me it’s less about feeing full, that’s the other affect. And more about not feeling hungry, not thinking about food and not wanting to eat things.

for example, before I started on MJ I was a bit sceptical. Because I thought ‘sure it can make me feel full or can make me not feel hungry BUT, those aren’t the only times I eat’ I eat because I’m bored, or stressed, or sad or sometimes I eat because there is delicious food in my fridge and I just want those flavours in my mouth. Starting MJ I was blown away. Because yes it made me feel full after eating not much BUT more to the point it suppressed all thoughts of food. I wasn’t just not hungry, when out of habit I went to look in the kitchen for a snack and could see all my favourite cheeses, crisps and sweets I STILL just didn’t fancy them. My brain doesnt make me think about food - and honestly I don’t think I’d ever realised how much I DID think about food until suddenly I didn’t.

The not eating until dinner and then binging has been how I’ve eaten for the past 8 years. MJ has got rid of the inclination to binge on an evening. However because I’m not a breakfast or lunch person I’m having to make the effort to eat during the day to keep protein levels up. I completely forgot to eat on Monday - not a stealth boast as I felt shocking the next morning

Exactly what you just described is what I need and am hoping for 🙏🏼 not wanting to eat certain foods and hopefully not thinking about them also.

Ive struggled with BED for 12 years, my heaviest was 19 stone 4lbs. Over a few years I managed to slowly lose weight and got down to the low 16s/high 15s, I wasn’t trying, I think the binging wasn’t as bad during that period. But since 2022, I regained that weight and went back to 19 stone 3lbs 😭 I’m down to 18.4 at the moment but I need something long term to help me kick this awful addiction.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/04/2025 20:55

@CallMeStella tablets - herbal ones- you can get in Holland and Barrett- they do kind of have some similar effects on GP1 - but not as strong, so main side effect is just the feeling fuller but also are good on blood glucose. Tend to work better if you have good willpower anyway and are eating healthily but just want to cut right down in portion sizes etc - I lost 2st 6 just calorie counting 18 months ago in 8 months but then just ‘lost the will ‘ somewhat and put almost a stone back - still need to lose 3 stone.!! I was suprised how sick and awful mounjaro made me feel and I had low grade tummy ache for 3 days too - I’m going to persist ‘I’ve paid for it ‘ mentality - but if it’s the same next couple of weeks will switch

This is amazing to hear, well done! I’m trying to eat two meals a day now but I have this thing where I hate feeling full during the day, so the thought of eating 3 meals really puts me off. I’m trying protein yogurts and shakes now to make sure I’m getting the protein etc without having to ‘eat’ more.

It gives me hope to hear how you’re doing, I really hope MJ hopes us all manage our food issues one way or another 🙏🏼

Another NSV. I just bumped into a neighbour I haven’t seen in ages whilst dumping my recycling. She told me I looked so fresh and fit. I don’t know her very well but tonight she’s my favourite person in the world 😂

Am hoping this book (thanks whoever referenced Andrew Jenkinson on an earlier thread) will help me understand what my body is doing.

Evening all, just thinking ahead to when I finish my pen, what needles are people using to get the last bit out? I’ve been seeing lots of people sharing links to needles on Amazon 😬 I’m not buying dodgy syringes from there, I’m looking at online medical supply sites but honestly I’m not sure what I’m looking for at all! Any links/advice would be much appreciated!

I do feel ready to go up to 5mg as not feeling as much suppression, apart from stopping snacking.

I am also having some vivid and rather strange dreams, anyone else?

I think that’s the goal? To not snack or eat bad foods, if you’re managing meals I wouldn’t necessarily consider increasing the dose as you don’t want complete suppression where you don’t want to eat anything

Tormundsbeard · 10/04/2025 00:27

@CallMeStella you are right…. I guess I wanted more of a handhold as my weight loss has slowed down over the 4 weeks I have been on it.

i have had no bad side effects so I thought a bigger dose would be ‘more effective’ somehow.

But I am still eating small portions (with some willpower involved) and not snacking, or mindless grazing, which I think was my downfall, so it is working currently,

I originally thought that 2.5 was seen as a starter dose to get your body used to it.

I’ve been watching a Dr from the US on YouTube, he lost a lot of weight on MJ and has stuck to a dose around 3.6 I think it was. As long as you are losing 1-2lbs a week while controlling your eating, I think you’ve hit the jackpot. The goal is to be on the lowest dose possible and still seeing results. Dont rush your weight loss, its not good for your muscle mass and quick weight loss often results in loose skin.

popdepop · 10/04/2025 06:36

Morning, how do you do the 'hard twist' for the golden dose? does this also work or is it better to get some syringes?

I got a damp flannel and gripped the pen and plunger in separate hands and gave it a hard twist (like you would with a wet cloth and a jam jar lid). Took me 4 attempts for the mechanism to break and it was tough. I then tapped for bubbles and released a little before injecting.

Thanks. So where does it break? is it the top part where we would normally twist to measure the dose?

Similar for me Soupy. I didn’t know I thought about food until suddenly I didn’t. Although it’s not really thinking about food for me, it’s just being on autopilot/default to be eating. And then not!

@CallMeStella I don’t get any feelings of fullness. But I have been satisfied with whatever size portion I eat- I’m not left thinking “I need more!” This is a revelation :)

But having said that, now after six jabs of 2.5, I have got that food noise/ eating random stuff just because it’s there feeling back and I am so so hungry this morning on waking, which I haven’t been before. My stomach is growling at me :( Thinking I might do a 3.75 tomorrow night (Friday jabber!), then again next week by using the golden shot, to get me through until I can order 5mg.

springdays100 · 10/04/2025 08:17

Checking in for accountability. 4 weeks in and happy to have moved down to a weight starting with a 12! Have done a golden dose of 2.5 and have a 5 pen in the fridge for next week, but thinking will either stick at 2.5 or possibly 3.75 depending how the rest of this week goes!

SW 13st 12. BMI = 31.3
CW 12st 13.6 BMI = 29.3
TW 10st 0 BMI = 22.6

Wk 1: -6 lb, 2.5mg, -6lb total. 13 st 6
Wk 2: -3.5lb, 2.5mg. -9.5lb total. 13 st 2.5
Wk 3: -1.2lb , 2.5mg. -10.7lb total. 13st 1.3
Wk 4: -1.7lb, 2.5mg. -12.4lb total, 12st 13.6

Average weekly loss 3.1 lb

Beinthepresent · 10/04/2025 08:24

Start of week 4 weigh in.
1.2 kilo loss for me this week. Total of 4 kilos lost in 3 weeks. 8.8lbs. I'm very pleased. Planning on taking the extra dose next week and my new 2.5 pen is getting delivered today. I dont feel the need to up my dose yet as I still have good suppression and I'm so tired I really don't want to feel even more tired.

Choirgirl699 · 10/04/2025 08:57

popdepop · 10/04/2025 06:55

Thanks. So where does it break? is it the top part where we would normally twist to measure the dose?

It's inside where the plunger is, you know when you turn it, it feels like there's a spring inside? Once the pen has dispensed the 4 doses, it turns a little and then no further, the hard twist breaks the "spring" and then it continues to turn until the plunger is all the way out as it does with a regular dose and it says "1" in the window.

Choirgirl699 · 10/04/2025 08:59

Brought jab day forward by 2 days and increased dose to 3.3mg. hd to jab twice as using a 2.5mg pen. Managed to freak myself out and til feeling a slight panic. Unsure if it's 2 needles (which did hurt) or scared of going up after having little to no side effects. Hope this feeling passes!

If you don't eat all day, it will be impossible not to binge in the evening. MJ may allow you to do that, but it's not healthy. One of the first things any expert will tell you about binging is that it's the natural response to restricting. Start eating three balanced meals a day and you won't feel the need to binge in the evenings. If you put this into practice now while you're on MJ then it should be easier to carry on once you come off the medication.
