Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Evening all, so im thinking ahead quite a bit at the moment but just wondering what others are planning to do as I’ve seen some discussion about holidays. This may be a question for those who have joined but have started ahead of most of us.

So im due to go on holiday in May to Las Vegas (lots of temptation there) - this is my aim for me to feel a bit more comfortable in myself before I go. So by then I should be on my last does of 5mg (and to be fair probably won’t really know the answer to this until I’m on the 5mg and see how it is for me) I go away on the Monday so should have had 3rd dose of 5mg the Friday before and then will still be away for another 4/5 days after my next and last 5mg does is due.

what would anyone else plan to do?? I’ve heard of people splitting doses to spread them out over the week for better coverage - would you do this?? Or would you plan to just jab when home?? Or just do the 5mg while away - if planning to jab while away are we allowed to travel with out pens and equipment?? could it go into my hold luggage or would they pull it up??

WinterOnItsWayOut · 09/04/2025 22:21

Just popping on before my 2nd jab tomorrow (will report on stats then 😄).

I did my first jab in my tummy and it bruised a fair bit - needle went in and out fine so not sure why. Wondering whether to try my thigh tomorrow?

where has everyone else jabbed and anyone else had bruising?

TIA!

@QS90 I think 1,500 seems to be a good amount. Diet-mode thinking - that is a good phrase, and something I need to not do as it never, ever works! My starting weight on the weekend was 119.7kg! I spent my whole pregnancy last year on steroids so I put on a huge amount of weight. I’m looking forward to the increased dose next month to see if I truly notice a difference

There was a book mentioned by another poster in one of the much earlier pages, recommending a book called "The Easy Way - How to Stop Emotional Eating" by Allen Car. I've been listening to it on Audible, and it's been really helpful. Very odd, not like anything I've "read" before, but very insightful and looks at overeating from a totally different view point. I want to break my bad habits, as well as physically lose the weight, so it doesn't all go back on again at some point!

Lostfirsttimebuyer · 09/04/2025 22:23

My first pen and Juniper kit just arrived today! I'm excited and nervous! Thinking I'll start tomorrow evening.

Did you rub or massage the area after sometimes this can cause bruising - I have a small bruise from my 2nd and I remember touching/rubbing it really quickly so may have been that for me

Hi everyone. I’ve just had my second dose of 2.5. I’m going on holiday tomorrow so hopefully there won’t be any side effects!
I guess I should turn my head to ordering my second pen, or will do as soon as I get back from the holiday anyway. I’m definitely going to go up to 5mg, as I could do with some extra suppression I think.
I’ve had a look on the site that compares all the prices. Wow, it’s really variable! It blows my mind that Boots would charge so much more than everywhere else.
Does anyone know if all the pharmacies on there are fully registered and legit? I’ve never heard of many, but then I don’t suppose I would have prior to now.
It’s tempting to be lazy and stick with Mounjaro but I also fancy a deal!

Hi, if you mean the monj.co.uk website then yes, all the pharmacies on there are legit and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) so they have to uphold strict standards.

WinterOnItsWayOut · 09/04/2025 22:59

@TC4I don’t think I rubbed it but may have done against my jeans waistband.

I think I’ll do it in my thigh tomorrow…..

@Pandimoanymum (love your username 😂)
Thanks very much re Monj - that’s helpful to know.

I did my first jab in my thigh earlier today. No bruising and practically painless. Maybe you just jabbed a bit too hard? Or maybe the stomach area bruises more easily. I used to have to inject myself with IVF drugs in that area with a similar needle and I often bruised, even if I did it as gently as possible.

I've not fully caught up with the thread yet but wanted to respond to you about pharmacies. I've not had my pen yet as ive only just had my request approved but I've used ZAVA medical. They're the company that Asda pharmacy use to do the weight loss injections but they're cheaper if you go directly to them (£179 from Asda Vs £139 from Zava directly).

If you want to try ZAVA then let me know and I've got a 25% discount code (makes it just under £105). Full disclosure I do get 25% my next order too if you do use the code but absolutely no pressure at all. Just wanted to share the opportunity for savings.

Same goes to anyone else of course..let me know 🩷

P.s. I'm so impatient to get started. Why couldn't the post just appear in the click of a finger 🙄

SausageRoll90 · 10/04/2025 01:18

@TC4 with regards to travel I don't know the specifics for this particular medication but injections in general that are a medication are fine to travel with if you have a drs note or a prescription. These are ethe rules for people carrying insulin for example.
I'd imagine you'd need to ask your GP to do a note that states you need to take the injection and needle/sharps onto the flight in your hand luggage. Do not put the injection pen into your main bag as it's too cold in the hold and will likely freeze the medication and render it useless.

It might also be worth checking with the airline to see what guidelines they have for this stuff. There are usually guidance on their websites.
Xx

I'm on day 5 of week 2 and to be honest I've been hungry today and ate quite a lot. 2 pears, 2 bananas, packet of prawns , packet of raspberries, some stilton and hallumi kebabs. I could eat more. Not sure what sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe not drinking enough water. A bit worried this isn't going to work. You all seem to have no appetite but I still do. Hmmm....

That’s not a lot at all. Protein and fruit is good.

@wordywitch I am better - thank you. Eating something close to meals now - although small ones - and no longer feeling ill. Just one really wobbly moment after I'd eaten. I ate half a chicken breast and half an apple and about 30 minutes later felt very hot and dizzy (during a meeting oh dear!).

I'm hoping everything will level out. The support from Juniper has actually been very good, with lots of helpful contact and advice while I felt so poorly, so that was a good decision in the end. I have been reassured by the oversight.

SW 86.9kg CW 84kg . Still within normal fluctuation. I have been weighing (Juniper sends you digital scales that connect to their app) because of being ill, just to make sure nothing drastic was happening, but as it calms down I will stop this part.

MissCreative · 10/04/2025 07:48

Yesterday was week 1 and I lost 6 1/2lbs!!!!!!!! Has my 2nd injection yesterday and felt extremely tired and slept for two hours in the day - very unlike me. Not sure if it was mounjaro but feel fine this morning

Really glad to hear that you’re feeling better, I felt so bad for you! Are you worried about doing the next injection, have Juniper given you advice on that?

wordywitch · 10/04/2025 08:09

I am W2D1 and did my official weigh in this morning. Technically I lost 2.5kg from my starting weight but I was on my period so if I was going from my weight just before my period, two days before I started MJ, I lost 1.2kg. Either way I’m happy with that as I am in this for the slow and steady losses and not big ones. I lost 22kg in 5 months in 2021 and ended up putting it all back on (and more) so I want to take it slowly this time.

You are allowed to take your pen with you. But personally I shifted my days gradually so that I injected the day before I went on holiday and then waited until I got home for the next dose. I was all inclusive and ate and drank what I wanted but put on only 2lb and that was gone in 2 days after getting home. It actually seemed to help my weight loss as I then loss 4lb the next week and hit my target

Lundier · 10/04/2025 08:13

@wordywitch They were adamant I shouldn't do a half dose - they phoned me about it - but said to delay my dose instead. I'm going to push it back 2 days, and then likely the next one as well. Essentially the idea is to spread it out over 5 weeks instead of 4, which is within treatment guidelines.

I'm going to follow their advice this time and hope the next shot doesn't fell me again. If it does, I'm definitely going to a half dose no matter what they say!

wordywitch · 10/04/2025 08:16

@LundierThat seems like a sensible plan. Fingers crossed your body reacts better this time!

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 10/04/2025 08:21

Just weighed myself. On day 14. Lost 10lbs! Delighted as I was very bloated last weekend and wasn’t sure if I was losing anything.

have upped my walking, weights and water and can now see a shift. Relieved it’s working! Hope everyone else is seeing positive changes.

diian · 10/04/2025 08:24

@TC4 @SausageRoll90 I went to Dubai last year and put my MJ pen in my hold luggage with no problem. I wrapped it up in clothing in the middle of my case and transferred it to the room fridge on arrival.

If you are worried you can buy an insulated travel pen case really cheaply. We have these for school epi-pens.

My work colleague is missing two weeks when she goes in holiday to Spain in a couple of weeks, she's been on it since January and has a while to go before hitting goal weight. She didn't want to worry about it while on holiday and I think she's also curious to see what happens to her appetite etc when she has a break.

Anyway I'll report back how she got on!

ValliBec · 10/04/2025 09:26

Morning all! Wow, hadn’t checked this for two days and there were 170 new messages! 😀Glad we’ve got this community.
week 1 done for me - due to take my second dose this evening.
I’m down 3lb which I know is a good weekly amount to lose but a part of me was hoping for more 🫤 I lost 2lb by Sunday so my weight loss has slowed as the week has gone on. I know I’ve got to take it slow and steady but it’s hard when you’ve got 3 stone to lose and the summer is looming!

Newmum110 · 10/04/2025 09:35

Took my first dose last night, very straight forward & nothing to report today. Don't feel any difference but will see how the week goes. Hoping to lose at least 2lbs a week otherwise I really don't think it's worth it financially.

SquishyGloopyBum · 10/04/2025 10:08

Just taken my first dose. Was simple and didn’t hurt (injected into stomach flab).

just hope it works! 🤞
