Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Hi, I’ve just had my first prescription dispensed. It’s arriving tomorrow. I think I’m going to take my first dose on Friday so if I feel sick, it should have worn off by the time I’m back at work on Monday.
Currently 117kg and my first aim is to get below 100.

Maybe then I could set a target of 70 or 80.

Just the same as me! Mine is also scheduled to arrive tomorrow and I use it on Friday, so any side effects will be over the weekend.

Louise071 · 09/04/2025 19:29

Just done my first weigh in and second dose - I have lost 5lb this first week so I'm reasonably happy with that!

I'm feeling hungry today so I'm glad that it's day 7 and I could do my second injection. I've got a healthy Tesco food shop on the way and ready for another good week ahead Smile

It's been lovely being able to pop on here every now and again to see how everyone else is doing at the same stage of their journey as me!

Ok, well having just said I’ll start Friday evening, I read some more posts and decided ‘bollocks to that, why am I waiting, really?’ I think the more I anticipate it the more I’ll worry about side effects. So I just did it 🤣
Very easy and painless. Week 1 is go for launch!

Same here - just did mine instead of waiting until bedtime!

Im tracking using my FitnessPal. Seems I'm averaging about 1300 per day and trying to hit 90g of protein but only managing about 70g. Im having a protein shake every morning but just not managing much at lunch which is affecting the total. I had a protein yoghurt (20g for the pot) but only managed to eat about half the pot because I just didn't want to eat it anymore. I'll definitely need to be more focused on meal planning next week to make sure that what I'm eating is protein heavy.
How is your suppression now on Day 5? Mine is starting to wane now.

70g is good! I only get to 70g on a good day. Am trying to find ways to up it. I've never been keen on protein shakes BUT, have discovered unflavoured collagen powder (possibly also good for dealing with loose skin). It literally has no taste, so have been stirring into soups, ratatouille, even coffee, to give a little boost.

I'm due my next jab Friday afternoon. Appetite is returning slightly, although could be pms. Also had some wine over the weekend. Didn't take me over on calories, but wonder if it's peaked my appetite a bit? So hard to tell. Either way, may jab early tomorrow...

BadSpellaSpellaSpella · 09/04/2025 20:30

My first Jan is due tomorrow, I've a similarish bmi to @Pepperwaggytail (27.8) but have very high cholesterol which is why I was approved.

@Raffles134in your position I’d buy the 5mg and use it as you feel. I did 6 weeks on 2.5, then 5 weeks on 3.75mg and then up to 5mg. I’m in maintained now and I’ve dropped to 2.5mg this week and it seems fine so far 🤞

When you decided to move up to 3.75 & then 5 was it because you felt the effects were lessening?

How far in advance do we need to order our next pens, is a week or so sufficient?

@Lundier How are you feeling? Really hope the sickness is starting to improve.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 09/04/2025 21:06

@Raffles134yes, when I noticed a fall off in weight loss and an increase in appetite and/or food noise. But I didn’t need to go beyond 5mg as I was losing well on that when I reached target. I lost 3 stone 5lb in 16 weeks and I’ve been maintaining for 2 weeks now. I’ve lost 24% body weight and have gone from obese to healthy BMI category now, albeit near the top end. I joined this group too as I know I found it useful having people further ahead on the weight loss programme to ask questions 😀

It’s never taken more than a week for me even in the run up to Xmas, but i still like to order with 1 dose left in the pen as I’m cautious

Raffles134 · 09/04/2025 21:13

RhaenysRocks · 09/04/2025 17:24

@Raffles134 that's very similar to me. I'm on day 1 of week 2 and having had the grand total of a yoghurt, a small satsuma, a tuna sandwich on brown bread and a protein bar am not remotely fussed about dinner. I think I'll probably do the same as you..order a 5mg but maybe do smaller doses for as long as they still work. It does allow flexibility and is more economical too I guess!

Think I will definitely order the 5 and hopefully will be able to stay on 2.5 longer and get a bit more from the pen!
Im only a couple of days behind you.
If I went by my appetite I would probably only eat once a day! I’d like to get to the point where I am eating enough to be prepared for when I come off it. Also worried that being too low on calories can cause hair loss 😱
Today I had a brunch of a scrambled egg with spinach & avocado then dinner at 5pm was a slice of frittata made with veggies & some chicken.

5lb is great well done.

I jab on Friday mornings so coming to the end of my first week. I’m feeling nervous for tomorrow in case I’m feeling more hungry…

JMSA · 09/04/2025 21:27

Hi everyone. I’ve just had my second dose of 2.5. I’m going on holiday tomorrow so hopefully there won’t be any side effects!
I guess I should turn my head to ordering my second pen, or will do as soon as I get back from the holiday anyway. I’m definitely going to go up to 5mg, as I could do with some extra suppression I think.
I’ve had a look on the site that compares all the prices. Wow, it’s really variable! It blows my mind that Boots would charge so much more than everywhere else.
Does anyone know if all the pharmacies on there are fully registered and legit? I’ve never heard of many, but then I don’t suppose I would have prior to now.
It’s tempting to be lazy and stick with Mounjaro but I also fancy a deal!

SquishyGloopyBum · 09/04/2025 21:28

Eeek, joining in after finally deciding to take the plunge.

5ft5 13st2. BMI 31 but I wanted a reset as my weight has been creeping up plus I have a dodgy knee so I’m wanting to help that. Think I’m peri too (41). Ideally would like to get to 11stone or 10st7 but we shall see.

I am scared but then have been lifted tonight by all the posts on here.

My pen arrives tomorrow and I’m going to have it as soon as I can so I don’t talk myself out of it. I have been really good ever since I applied on Sunday -trying to get into the healthy mindset as well. Feel good for it.

im just worried about side effects but I have a quiet few days coming up.

JMSA · 09/04/2025 21:32

Oh and when I did my jab tonight, the needle was bent on coming out. Hopefully that’s normal. The dose did seem to go in perfectly fine. I think next time I’ll stand up though, as the angle is better for administering it!

Potato1234 · 09/04/2025 21:32

Day 4 today and my stomach hasn’t rumbled. I’ve been so busy with my 3 month old that I forgot to eat until about 4pm! Had a snack of boiled eggs and a yoghurt. Then had tea which was a small stir fry with prawns which was around 400 calories but I was still hungry so had a spoonful of houmous and a cracker and I felt so sick with being full I couldn’t even have another cracker. I reckon this is starting to work a bit but need to start eating at least two meals a day! How many calories is everyone eating? Ive calorie counted in the past eating no more than 1,500 and I never lose much so unsure if I should be counting at all.

mjaronewbie · 09/04/2025 21:38

I'm on day 5 of week 2 and to be honest I've been hungry today and ate quite a lot. 2 pears, 2 bananas, packet of prawns , packet of raspberries, some stilton and hallumi kebabs. I could eat more. Not sure what sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe not drinking enough water. A bit worried this isn't going to work. You all seem to have no appetite but I still do. Hmmm....

mjaronewbie · 09/04/2025 21:45

Thanks. Ive tried to be healthy but im feeling very hungry at the moment - good job I only did a healthy shop. Worrying this may not work for me or I am doing something wrong.

Not sure what position you started from, but what you ate today calorie-wise, wouldn't have been much for me at all pre WLI. Basically fruit and prawns, which don't have a lot of calories at all, and one meal. If you were anything like me, you might be eating a lot less than you otherwise would have and not feel it. Try not to compare yourself to other people on WLI, especially not on 2.5 "starter dose" x

That’s not a huge amount of food, but mostly also not filling food. Protein and fats are the most filling, I like to snack on grilled chicken, ham.nuts and seeds, full fat yoghurt or a babybel cheese. Complex carbs like wild rice is also good. Legumes like beans, lentils etc and eggs are fabulous super foods. Fruit is ok but less nutritious than veg, maybe slices of pepper and cucumber with hummus might be good too. Try to eat how you plan to eat for the rest of your life, so healthy and nutritious and balanced, tasty and a bit of what you fancy as an occasional treat

Ive calorie counted in the past eating no more than 1,500 and I never lose much so unsure if I should be counting at all.

I've been calorie counting out of interest, and I'm coming in quite consistently at 1,500, just eating healthy things, when I'm hungry. Am trying to change my attitude towards food too, so not doing any of my usual diet-mode thinking, of trying to eat just that bit less, or go that bit longer. Because it never works, and leads to binging!

I started at 16 stone, so 1,500 is well under what I would need to maintain weight anyway 🤷‍♀️

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 09/04/2025 22:05

Offering an example of what I’m eating on an average day. I’m mostly having 2 meals a day. Brunch is typically either full fat plain yogurt and mixed nuts and seeds, or something savoury like grilled chicken breast and salad jn a wrap.

Evening meal of green veg with a bit of butter to help absorb the nutrients, lean meat or fish, a few baby potatoes or some rice.

If I’m feeling like it I may have a snack of a babybel and a plum or apple. Or at the end of the day I may want a treat and have some chocolate coated almonds, 7 = 100 calories so about right for a treat. I drink lots of fluids, tea, camomile tea and water.

But most weeks we have a takeaway, but share a portion of fish and chips. That way we get to enjoy the less healthy food but not eat too much of it. I don’t want to make any food band, as that makes it more desirable, so any food is allowed, just with portion control for treats. For other food stuff eat according to appetite, and try to get a variety of foods to make sure you’re getting enough protein and vitamins and minerals. I did tend to count calories at the beginning using MyFitnessPal until I had a good idea of what calories were in what. It can be helpful when comparing to your weight changes

Potato1234 · 09/04/2025 22:05

@QS90 I think 1,500 seems to be a good amount. Diet-mode thinking - that is a good phrase, and something I need to not do as it never, ever works! My starting weight on the weekend was 119.7kg! I spent my whole pregnancy last year on steroids so I put on a huge amount of weight. I’m looking forward to the increased dose next month to see if I truly notice a difference
