Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Two questions for everyone this morning:
Is anyone considering taking small doses of creatine? I'ver read some positive things about it for people on GLP-1s and also for perimenopausal women in
general.
What are some favourite high protein meals/snacks that you are enjoying? Looking for some suggestions before my weekly shop 😁

I take 5 mg of creatine per day, I do a lot of strength training. Creatine is probably one of the most researched supplements out there, it has some good benefits not just for strength and muscle but others things. Just make sure you drink plenty of water/fluids and you will be fab.

wordywitch · 09/04/2025 09:40

I am W1D7 and last night was the first night I didn’t want or finish my dinner, strangely. It might have just been that I didn’t fancy what my husband made as my stomach did rumble a bit later but never felt enough hunger to make me want to get up and go get something. Second injection tomorrow so will do my official weigh in then.

The only supplements I take are magnesium glycinate and Vitamin D+K.

Minuethippo · 09/04/2025 09:41

I started on Friday and it’s my first week. All I’ve done during the night (and day) is wee! It’s driving me nuts…is it my body getting rid of water weight? Please tell me it stops !

SausageRoll90 · 09/04/2025 09:52

@fourapples for snacks I don't know about the protein amounts but my list for healthy snacks is below. I had gestational diabetes in my pregnancy and these are the type of snacks I'd choose so I thought that similar snacks would be suitable here too.

  • apple with peanut butter/cheese
  • rice cake/oat cake with hummus
  • veg sticks with hummus
  • celery with primula light cheese
  • mixed nuts and fruit
  • hard boiled eggs
I would probably have cold meats and stuff too for protein but the above options are all veggie.
Crikeyalmighty · 09/04/2025 10:00

@Minuethippo yes probably, but are you also drinking a lot more water? I know for me it ramps up the minute I drink a lot more water

Definitely yes but I stop myself 5-6 hours before bedtime so I’m surprised at the amount I’m having to get up. Maybe it’ll settle soon

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 09/04/2025 10:49

@Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer I found that I naturally moved to 2 meals a day. Brunch, which can be breakfasty or lunchy depending on how I feel, and an evening meal.

If I tried for 3 full meals I struggle to eat and enjoy the food. I carry a protein based snack in case I get hungry.

So I've just eaten full fat yoghurt and nuts and seeds granola, and feel very satisfied 😊 it's normally later but I had an early start today.

Don't feel you have to force food in, ultimately we're trying to reduce what we eat and get to a sustainable way of eating that keeps us at the weight/size/shaoe/health we want to be.

@fourapples So do I! I take 3-5mg creatine every day dissolved in water and have now , since MJ started having unsweetened protein powder with a tablespoon of Naturya cacao powder in skimmed milk every morning for breakfast - I'm 55 and do cardio/ and strength workouts 3-4 times per week , just for fitness/ strength , not for body building!

SausageRoll90 · 09/04/2025 11:22

I've just been approved for the injections!!! Let's hope it's dispatched soon so I can start on the weekend. Otherwise it'll be Monday or Tuesday before it gets here and I didn't really want to start it on a work day just incase 🤞🏻

Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer · 09/04/2025 12:00

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow this is sort of what I’ve been doing but even that is a stretch, I’m worried a few days I’m not even managing 1,000cals and I do run/weights most days so I’m conscious I need to make sure I am at least fuelling myself.
My issue is I’m not massively arsed about food but because I’m busy I eat on the go a lot of the time so I end up picking up pre packed sandwiches and wraps which is where a lot of my weight gain has come from. MJ has basically helped me never be hungry but I need to be better at actually eating some balanced meals rather than protein yogs and snacks.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 09/04/2025 12:11

@Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer that makes sense. I like to have some prepared chicken or other lean meat to snack on, so when I grill some for dinner I'll
Make extra for the next day. I'm also a fan of a babybel as a protein based snack.
Mixed bean salad now the weathers getting better?

MrsCastle · 09/04/2025 13:12

Just got my pen! At last

but the expiry date is August..which feels a bit concerning

TheFunkyDuckling · 09/04/2025 13:25

@MrsCastle should be fine with that expiry on. Once you take your first injection you'll be done within 4 weeks so we'll before August x x

Stepfordian · 09/04/2025 13:56

I’m on day 7 and I’d say it has worn off around lunchtime today, I’ve suddenly started feeling hungry and craving snacks. I’ll jab again later tonight.

I'd start. Presumably if you're ordering WLI, it's because you want the appetite suppression x

Pandimoanymum · 09/04/2025 15:41

Hi, please may I join?
I received my first delivery today, aiming to start Friday evening. I'm 57, 5'2" and 17stone 4lb. Wasn't overweight till had gall bladder removal in mid-thirties, then IVF treatment and pregnancy and the weight started going on as exercise slacked off. I think menopause exacerbated it, and now I just find it impossible to shift anything unless I'm practically starving myself. I can't bear being hungry, so my portions are too big-that's my downfall. Have tried slimming world, weight loss shakes and GP prescribed Orlistat which was working a bit-but the side effects could be embarrassing and unpredictable!
I'm at the point now where my joints hurt, I lack energy-everything is an effort. I'm on medication for BP and cholesterol. have a CPAP machine because I've developed Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. A day out somewhere walking around absolutely exhausts me, and that cannot be normal at my age. I asked my GP about weight loss injections and she's referred me to weight loss clinic, but the wait could be months. My aim is to lose about three stone (initially) because I remember when I was three stone lighter, I found it much easier to exercise, and I'm hoping that if I can exercise more it will be easier to keep the weight from coming back.

Raffles134 · 09/04/2025 17:04

W1 D6 and all still going well!

Thinking ahead to when I order my 2nd pen.
What has everyone done?
or planning to do?

Stick with 2,5?
Go up to 5?

I am having good suppression on 2.5 so would like to stick with it if I can but worry if I order another 2.5 then find by week 4 it’s not enough, I don’t want to regret not having the higher dose.

Thinking maybe get the 5 and if I still only need 2.5 I can just use 30 clicks but have the option to go a bit higher if needed.

Would love to know what everyone plans to do!

Thanks! 🥰

Thank you! I was just a bit - hey don’t sell me the older medication!

RhaenysRocks · 09/04/2025 17:24

@Raffles134 that's very similar to me. I'm on day 1 of week 2 and having had the grand total of a yoghurt, a small satsuma, a tuna sandwich on brown bread and a protein bar am not remotely fussed about dinner. I think I'll probably do the same as you..order a 5mg but maybe do smaller doses for as long as they still work. It does allow flexibility and is more economical too I guess!

Pandimoanymum · 09/04/2025 17:34

Ok, well having just said I’ll start Friday evening, I read some more posts and decided ‘bollocks to that, why am I waiting, really?’ I think the more I anticipate it the more I’ll worry about side effects. So I just did it 🤣
Very easy and painless. Week 1 is go for launch!

2.5 and 5 are the same price.

My understanding is that 2.5 isnt a therapeutic dose - just to get your body acclimatised.

You will probably be able to make a better decision by the end of the 4th week.

NotsosunnyShropshire · 09/04/2025 18:15

Hi, I’ve just had my first prescription dispensed. It’s arriving tomorrow. I think I’m going to take my first dose on Friday so if I feel sick, it should have worn off by the time I’m back at work on Monday.
Currently 117kg and my first aim is to get below 100.

Maybe then I could set a target of 70 or 80.

Same price but if I'm using a smaller dose than intended it will last longer. I'm getting good suppression with 2.5 at the moment so we'll see. Don't want to leave a gap though so will probably order pen 2 in week 3 in case of any delays.

Pepperwaggytail · 09/04/2025 18:38

Please may I join the thread? I’m catching up by reading December-March threads and loving the support and positive updates.
Ive just started week 3 (on the 2.5 dose) and thankfully having great appetite suppression and no nasty side effects so far.
My BMI was just over 30 when I started and I’ve lost around 5lb so far which is fine, I’m menopausal and on HRT so despite doing loads of exercise and careful eating NOTHING was shifting those pounds!
I’m planning on staying on 2.5 as long as I’m losing, and have already been sent a 5mg pen which is sitting in the fridge until I’m ready to increase my dose or carry on with the 2.5 dose hopefully!
