Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

I decided to take mine in the mornings @Schoolsec as I’d read that some people experience insomnia after taking them in the evening and I didn’t want to chance that. I’m no good without my sleep!

Schoolsec · 08/04/2025 18:12

Is it better to take injection in the evening? Any thoughts? Side effects ( if any) seem to vary on when they arrive. Will be starting on 2.5mg on Good Friday. Holiday first!

I went for morning as I knew once I had taken it I would eat healthily.
i was worried about taking it in the evening if I had eaten rubbish and also if it kept me awake.
I would rather have dealt with any side effects during the day.
Luckily I didn’t have any other than a headache, slight nausea and feeling cold.
The suppression kicked in for me within a couple of hours!
I’m on day 5 and so far it’s been amazing. I’m so happy I started. Good luck!

Hi, I’d like to join you please!

I took my first jab on Sunday. I’m only just over the 30 BMI threshold so not got as much to lose as some but I was on an upward trajectory, getting bigger and bigger over the last couple of years and finding it harder and harder to shift. Am 43 and definitely think peri-menopausal, so I wanted to do something before it got even worse.

Anyway, I’m astounded by the amount of suppression I’m feeling, struggling to get my head around it! Having to force myself to eat anything and when I do eat I’m eating very slowly, such a change from before when I would scoff food down! Is anyone else feeling kind of creeped out by how different it feels?!

Not really had any side effects so far other than feeling really tired and having to have a nap when I got home from work yesterday!

Not creeped out as such, just think it’s such a strange feeling to not be bothered about food!
But a great feeling & very freeing!
I started on Friday so on day 5. Excited for the journey ahead & keeping everything crossed the suppression continues!

QS90 · 08/04/2025 19:40

I'm tracking what I'm eating, mainly for macros (how hard is it to get enough protein??). I'm averaging about 1,500 calories per day, by just eating until I'm full, and eating good food rather than rubbish. Also not much range, so only between 1300 & 1600.

Is anyone else tracking? Has your body naturally readjusted to a particular number of calories per day?

TheDutchHouse · 08/04/2025 19:49

Can i join too ?
ordered and awaiting delivery of Wegovy.
pre diabetic, 11.7st and 5ft tall .
I am very nervous of the side effects as I work full time in a public setting.

NovemberNovemberNovember · 08/04/2025 19:55

I've had my first full day and it's been good but weird. So I still hadn't had anything to eat by one o'clock because I was so busy. Normally this would have me stuffing my face with everything in my path. But today, I knew I was hungry and I had a bowl of lentil soup. And then I wasn't hungry anymore. I took my kids and their friends down for an ice cream and for once I didn't care about having one. First time in my life. Then at dinner I had some roast beef and veg and now I'm stuffed. There's no way I would eat anything else today.
It's good that I still felt hungry at the right times, and amazing that I'm eating normal amounts of food. I was falling into the trap of almost eating a whole dinner while preparing the family dinner each night. So two dinners for me really. But not tonight! Long may this continue. People in the know- does this continue?

Djfjrjc2022 · 08/04/2025 20:13

I hope you don't mind me joining!
I took my first pen on Friday night in the stomach. Felt nothing Saturday. Sunday morning felt like I'd pulled a muscle in my ribs but didn't last long. Had a big roast as normal - yesterday had really bad sulphur burps and tummy pain all day, plus a really bad belly. I barely ate all day and slept quite a bit, almost felt like I had a bug!
Ate a small tea which I brought all of back up and had a bad belly a few more times. Today feel absolutely fine! I was 100% convinced yesterday I wouldn't do this again as I felt so ill but now I'm wavering. Those who had similar, did it also happen week 2? And if I jab in the thigh, will the effects likely be less?

Schoolsec · 08/04/2025 20:28

Thank you! Very useful. I naturally would go for the morning so I think I’ll stick with that. Can’t wait to get started now!

Has anoyone read through the other threads - just wondering what we have ahead of us....

RhaenysRocks · 08/04/2025 20:45

It's so variable that I think it's hard to know. I just did my second jab but I'm away from home. I can't weigh and I can't cook for myself so I'm just buying snack, high protein type things. Not ideal and not cheap but the food provided is all carb. I'm not counting calories or macros, just trying to make good choices and enjoying the not hungry feeling.

Alipetals · 08/04/2025 21:03

Hi, I've just taken my first dose tonight after seeing a couple of friends do really well. I'm 55, 5ft 5in and just over 16st! I am starting to resemble a Weeble (they wobble but they don't fall down - sorry, if you're under 45 you won't have a clue what I'm babbling on about and will need to consult the oracle [Google]). I've been on every diet known to man (and woman) and, with the wonderful addition of the Menopause, I feel like it's now or never.

Be nice to hold my first grandchild in September without feeling like a big, sweaty blob!

As Robbie said "No Regrets", if it works, I'll be elated (and thinner) and if it doesn't, I'll still be fat and also skint!

Keeping everything crossed, fingers, toes and both my chins!

Ali 😃

I so get the weeble quote lol
did you find it easy to do injection?

Potato1234 · 09/04/2025 01:00

I’m officially past the 3 day mark and still unsure if it’s working or a placebo. I’m constantly thinking about food but not actually eating a lot. I haven’t eaten a proper meal since starting - just been having snacks such as hard boiled eggs, tuna, yoghurt, fruit, nuts. I made a sandwich and only ate a quarter of it - but my stomach was still rumbling but I had no interest in it? I don’t know if this is how you’re supposed to feel?

That's how I felt the first week. Not sure if I was just talking myself into it. Week 2 is different in that I'm definitely feeling physical effects and it's not just in my mind. Keep going...

Im tracking using my FitnessPal. Seems I'm averaging about 1300 per day and trying to hit 90g of protein but only managing about 70g. Im having a protein shake every morning but just not managing much at lunch which is affecting the total. I had a protein yoghurt (20g for the pot) but only managed to eat about half the pot because I just didn't want to eat it anymore. I'll definitely need to be more focused on meal planning next week to make sure that what I'm eating is protein heavy.
How is your suppression now on Day 5? Mine is starting to wane now.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 08/04/2025 11:04

@Crikeyalmighty you have to make your own judgement on what it right for you and how severe the side effects are, as they are very individual. The small positive I can give is that most people, most times have reduced negative side effects as they get used to the meds. For me the first week on each dose was a bit rough, usually day 3 the worst and then improving. But 2nd week rarely much negative impact apart from a loose poop on morning of day 3.

I found eating a small amount improved any nausea or burping, particularly ginger oat cakes.

Good luck I hope you feel improved

Good to hear that the second week was better. And ginger oatcakes are a good suggestion!

fourapples · 09/04/2025 07:14

Two questions for everyone this morning:
Is anyone considering taking small doses of creatine? I'ver read some positive things about it for people on GLP-1s and also for perimenopausal women in
general.
What are some favourite high protein meals/snacks that you are enjoying? Looking for some suggestions before my weekly shop 😁

Incognitoburrito88 · 09/04/2025 07:32

Hi Everyone, I’m so glad to see every new post. I haven’t told anyone I’ve taken MJ and it’s weird not talking to people in real life about what’s going on in my body. I’m day 5 today. I am still thinking about food a lot and it was definitely will power that stopped me having cake in a cafe yesterday rather than MJ but I guess it doesn’t matter as long as I didn’t eat it. I am still feeling some suppression I think but it’s definitely not life changing at this stage. Interested to see what week 2 brings. I will jab again on Friday morning. My period also started last night and I’m sore and bloated from that. Don’t feel like I’ve lost any weight but can’t weigh as I’m on holiday.

RhaenysRocks · 09/04/2025 07:39

@Incognitoburrito88 I wouldn't downplay the effect on willpower. Just beginning my second week now and I had a think back. Last week, had I not started this I would have had:
2 glasses of wine
At least three beers
2 bags of popcorn
Three meals involving pasta
Toast and butter every day
No fruit
Puddings after lunch at work
End of term chocolate and cakes
Late night cheese and biscuits X3

That's off the top of my head. I'm probably underestimating. But I had none of that and it wasn't hard to resist. The fact that you did when you wouldn't before is great and ultimately it doesn't matter why but if you've always "given in" before and didn't now, then that's great.

Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer · 09/04/2025 07:58

Morning! 2nd week done, just weighed in and only 1.5lbs off this week. I’m not really disheartened, the week after my period is the time my weight fluctuates more and I feel better in my skin again this week so I’ll take the NSV for now.

I am struggling to get the food in as I’m just not hungry so relying a lot of those bol type protein meals for breakfast to help me.

SW - 12st10
CW - 12st1.5
lost - 8.5lbs

just about to do jab3 and then I’ve got 6 hours of client meetings so I pray this isn’t the first week I get SE 😂

Incognitoburrito88 · 09/04/2025 08:03

@RhaenysRocks thanks for replying. That’s fab you’ve avoided all those things. There have definitely been times this week where I’ve just not been hungry but it’s just not been as life changing as I’m seeing others describe. I’ve dieted successfully in the past but it takes a huge amount of energy and mental strength as I’m definitely an emotional comfort eater. I’ve got a few things going on at home at the moment which mean I’m quite stressed and I recognise I’ve not got the bandwidth for a prolonged diet like I’ve done before. I was hoping the MJ would make me not mind missing out on the ‘treats’ and I don’t feel it’s doing that yet. But it’s early days - I will definitely persevere. I had decided I was going to be a super responder and I think I’m having to deal with the disappointment of this not being the case!!

Woah! Over half a stone in 2 weeks!! I’d take that! Well done and fingers crossed for no side effects!

@fourapples I’d be interested to hear more about creatinine - I’ve dismissed it as a bit of a fad unless you’re a weightlifter (which I’m not) but would like to know more…

I like the kvarg yogurts - usually have about 20g of protein. Interested to see what other recommendations you get - I’m struggling with protein as a veggie - when I’ve done low carb high protein before I’ve eaten a lot of bacon medallions and chicken but now I’ve given up meat it seems harder to get protein without a big volume of food.

Lundier · 09/04/2025 08:16

W1 D5

I feel ok today! Managed to do some WFH last night and back on it now. Thank goodness. The doctor is saying I should push my dose back a few days but then day 3 will be Wednesday, a busy work day, so I think I'll reduce instead.

I have "lost" 2.1kg, but I think that's within normal fluctuation, from what I'm reading. Managed to eat most of a banana last night for dinner and feel vastly improved. Able to drink tea and coffee again - and usually I drink about 10 cups a day so the caffeine withdrawals were fierce. So relieved to feel better. Off to catch my train!

Aldi do a really good range of protein puddings. Between 16-20g protein and really filling. They are big lots so I don't always finish it. About 75p to so much cheaper.

I am standing in an artisan coffee brunch place waiting for a take out coffee with genuinely delicious breakfast bagels, pastries etc in front of me and I'm just not fussed. It's so so liberating.
