Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

@Lundier that sounds awful 😔 I remember one person in the December group that was similar and ended up moving to 1.25mg for the next dose. It looks like you're a super responder and may need a more gentle start. It's a very powerful medication and some of us react more than others.

I responded strongly but not as strongly as you. I found going up in smaller steps was important. I did 2.5, 3.75 and then 5 and I'm glad I did it slowly as each step change was a bit uncomfortable.

It's hard to eat when you feel awful, but small amount of carbs may help (plain rice, dry toast, crackers).

I hope you feel better soon

wordywitch · 08/04/2025 10:12

@LundierThat sounds awful, I’m so sorry you’re feeling so unwell and have been impacted so severely. Have you been able to keep any fluids down? If so be sure to add some electrolytes to keep you from becoming too dehydrated and depleted. Does anything at all sound appealing to eat, even if it’s not ‘good’? I hope you are feeling better soon.

Bells3032 · 08/04/2025 10:20

Hi,

Can I join in? I started last Wedsnesday night. starting weight 16st 3lbs (only 5'3 too) and a T2 diabetic which developed in my first pregnancy at 32. I'm now 36 and have become incredibly insulin resistant and on high doses of insulin so have been prescribed it on the NHS. I am a massive binge eater.

Since starting i am amazed. I haven't had as much appetite supression as soon but i've found my need for binge and eating junk food is totally gone. I haven't touched chocolate since i started.

I've lost 5lbs in 5 days!

And most of all my sugars are super well controlled. I have pretty much cut out my fast acting insulin and cut my slow acting in half.

This is an amazing drug!

Lundier · 08/04/2025 10:28

Oh that's a good idea about asking about 1.25, @HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow . I will text the doctor.

@wordywitch I'm sipping water and diarolyte, but that's it really. Nothing at all sounds appealing to eat, though I've been trying to anyway because humans do need food. At first I found this really intriguing. Over the weekend I was just sort of fascinated! Then yesterday felt like I'd really gone wrong and waking up this morning still feeling rotten. But even now I'm improving a bit, I think.

If I could reduce these side effects I would keep going. I mean, I can't afford to just pack in my job, so I have to reduce them somehow.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/04/2025 10:38

@NovemberNovemberNovember I have felt sick all week - now on day 6 - it’s worse in an evening but last 2 nights a bit better - probably as it’s wearing off - kind of dreading jabbing tommorrow. If im like this on 2.5 I think I am only going to do these 4 doses as to be honest I can shift it on willpower in my case - hope it declines for you

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 08/04/2025 11:04

@Crikeyalmighty you have to make your own judgement on what it right for you and how severe the side effects are, as they are very individual. The small positive I can give is that most people, most times have reduced negative side effects as they get used to the meds. For me the first week on each dose was a bit rough, usually day 3 the worst and then improving. But 2nd week rarely much negative impact apart from a loose poop on morning of day 3.

I found eating a small amount improved any nausea or burping, particularly ginger oat cakes.

Good luck I hope you feel improved

TC4 · 08/04/2025 11:31

Another 0.4kg drop on the scale this morning, happy with that but won’t be taking my actual loss amount until Friday as I’m sure it will go up and down!!

this morning I didn’t have anything in for breakfast no milk, no yogurt (shopping here I come lol) so thought oh il try a piece of toast (before this pure comfort for me a white slice of toast with melted butter) I had that as “a treat” it just didn’t hit right it tasted strange and just did not feel the same!! And then of course had a rush moment 💩🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ we live and learn I guess

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 08/04/2025 11:40

W1 D4

weighed myself with low hopes (NOTHING usually works for me with Hashimotos Hypothyroidism and peri menopause) and 4lbs loss!!!!!!!!

WRT the nausea, I find the best cure is to eat something, especially carbs, so a banana and some nuts for protein, or a slice of bread and peanut butter, an oatcake and cheese.

wordywitch · 08/04/2025 11:52

@LundierI think texting the doctor is a good idea, as is considering going down a bit on the dose. Let us know how you get on. Fingers crossed for some relief soon.

Incognitoburrito88 · 08/04/2025 07:43

@SausageCatYellow that doesn’t sound like a lot of food at all! For context yesterday I had:

Greek yogurt (full fat) with pineapple, strawberries, grapes and a few nuts
3 egg omelette with a slice of smoked cheese, cherry tomatoes and cucumber
homemade veggie lasagne with salad and 2 slices of garlic bread

I’m on W1 day 5 today and I’m lying in bed daydreaming about my breakfast! I’m not sure how things are going. I’m on holiday for two weeks so not weighing until I get home. I would normally have snacked and had pudding on top of what I ate yesterday but I’m certainly not getting the have to force myself to eat or forgetting to eat that some people are describing. I don’t jab again until Friday so feel I’ve got a long way to go before things possibly improve.

Reading all your posts is definitely helping but I’m feeling super jealous of all the people with strong responses when I’m not sure anything is really happening for me!

@Incognitoburrito88 I am right where you are! Sort of eating less but not sure if it's true appetite suppression or just making healthier choices because it's at the forefront of my mind. Still , it is very early days and I am thankful that side effects so far have been minimal - a muzzy headache and slightly achy on day 2. Let's both hope we can see some rewards soon!

Crikeyalmighty · 08/04/2025 11:57

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow oh I totally agree- which is why I’m taking all 4 doses and then seeing how I feel - my willpower is good I know - as I lost 2st 6 18 months ago in 9 months-so for me it was more about kickstarting it again as it had crept up a bit since. Unlike others I’ve never been a ‘food noise’ person - so the suppression aspect isn’t really something I need. I basically plonked a lot of weight on at one point in life. I’ve found the minute I feel sick having a mint tea and 2 oatcakes keeps anything away - unlike many others though I’ve been regular still in the pooping dept with no issues. I am down by 1 kg this morning on day 6- strange really as no loss to speak of in first 5 days and suddenly jumped down - hallelujah!! My friend is actually on the pill version of wegovy and they are working similar for her with a bit less dancing around- so I may go for that too - I can see though for others why it would work very well as certainly I’ve wanted to eat less as didn’t feel 100% well - so anyone that really needs appetite suppression - job done!!!

I’m hoping to start soon, just waiting on thyroid scan and blood test results before I do.

im in the same boat as you hashimotos and perimenopause and everyone keeps saying to go gluten free, dairy free, sugar free and soy free. Have you tried this prior to mounjaro?

StrikeForever · 08/04/2025 12:09

Damn it. I know we’ve all struggled losing weight, or we wouldn’t be here, but I’m so pissed off. I have been ill with a virus and bronchitis for weeks and have had very little appetite. I had a gastric bypass 5 years ago. It’s been fabulous. I lost over 7 stone, but the final 2.5 just stuck. Since then, I have regained half a stone. This is normal as we begin to eat more normally. I am not gaining any more, but I want to lose some more. Anyway, this is a long way around to explain that my meals are always small. Also we eat healthy, vegetarian food. My problem is snacking between meals. The illness means I have been eating even smaller meals over the past several weeks, going all day with no food, occasionally having a few rich tea biscuits because that’s all I could manage. All this and I haven’t lost even a smidge of weight. How is that possible and does it mean I won’t lose any on MJ? 😡🤬

Peasinthefreezer · 08/04/2025 12:30

Did 2nd jab this morning. Had a good first week, slightly nauseous occasionally but nothing serious. The suppression seemed to last pretty much the whole week, maybe wore off a bit yesterday. Had a meal out - Japanese, so was easy to eat healthily did have a glass of wine which I couldn’t finish, would have normally had at a couple of glasses. I did enjoy the wine so when out happily have 1 glass with dinner.

Weighed myself and lost 6lbs so very happy with that. Good first week for me.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 08/04/2025 12:41

@Selttan I'm also hashimotos and menopausal. Everything that used to help lose weight didn't work this time, even very low calorie diet. But Mounjaro has, and very quickly. 3 stone 5lb off in 16 weeks, I've started maintaining now. I've had to reduce my Levothyroxine dose as Mounjaro seemed to kick start my thyroid and I was over medicated quite quickly. I was at TSH just over 1 when I started and was <0.05 after 8 weeks on MJ. I'm now waiting for my next blood test but feel it's all about right now.

I've been low sugar, avoiding gluten most of the time for a few years. But I do have soya milk in my tea (dairy milk just tastes too sweet). I still eat a small amount of cheese. I don't have the stomach issues that seem to go with coeliac.

My DS has hashimotos and is coeliac, and went dairy free until his gut recovered following diagnosis. There is a strong genetic link. Just can tell even if he's just had contamination, really strong symptoms almost before finishing eating

Schoolsec · 08/04/2025 14:36

Good to hear about experiences with Hashimotos. I was diagnosed with this two years ago ( think I had it a good while before though). Looking forward to starting but apprehensive too! Been dieting for most of my life, so anything that makes it easier must be a bonus. Just hoping no side effects 🙏

So glad it’s working for you. There must be more to MJ than reducing appetite and keeping the stomach full longer if you didn’t lose weight on a very low calorie diet, but you have on MJ.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 08/04/2025 15:19

@StrikeForever yes there is a forum collecting other benefits people have experienced. A number have reported benefits with immunity conditions such as hashimotos, psoriasis etc but it appears to have positives associated with various hormones that drive the body, not just insulin

Galadali · 08/04/2025 15:35

W2 D2 and I'm definitely feeling it rather than just imagining it! Had my "breakfast" (Greek yogurt, tbsp granola, handful of blueberries and a garnish of toasted coconut😁) at 1pm and I am painfully stuffed 2 and a half hours later. Normally at this time I'm thinking about my tea or grabbing snacks. I never, ever feel full, so this is definitely working!

whatdoyouthink123456 · 08/04/2025 16:55

Hi everyone, can I join?
I just took my first injection yesterday. Has anyone else just started?
I don’t think iv had any symptoms. Iv not eaten much today but I'm not sure if it’s a placebo effect! 🤣

W2D3. I took my jab a day (well the night before) earlier as hunger was creeping in and it was the right decision. Last week - the first week I was very conscious looking for SE and supression but I also worked hard counting calories and fasting. Today I can say I am not thinking about food or MJ. I have noticed the sulpher burps this week - quite mild - hope they will be transient. I was 9lb down last week so dont have too many expectations for this week. My mini goal is shifting the next 6lb so that I will weigh 12st 2lb and tips me out of obesity and into overweight. I am doing IF and 2MAD. Trying to up my protein in take at each meal. Other goals will be to walk 12k/day and get back to resistance training - might buy some dumb bells or try body weight exercises first to see if I can stay motivated at home.

I am feeling that a lot of headspace has been freed up from not either obesssing about or try to resist food, then willpower breaks, impulsively eat rubbish --- and I plan to fill that headspace with plans and activities for self care. I am feeling a sense of relief on week two that this is working for me but I am conscious that I have to do my part.

Is it better to take injection in the evening? Any thoughts? Side effects ( if any) seem to vary on when they arrive. Will be starting on 2.5mg on Good Friday. Holiday first!

I like the evening, as you're not waiting for it to kick in, you wake up and it's there. Typically any negative side effects I've had have come about 2-3 days after the jab. I thought they'd come quicker as the positives come really quickly got me

Melon2312 · 08/04/2025 18:55

Hi, I’d like to join you please!

I took my first jab on Sunday. I’m only just over the 30 BMI threshold so not got as much to lose as some but I was on an upward trajectory, getting bigger and bigger over the last couple of years and finding it harder and harder to shift. Am 43 and definitely think peri-menopausal, so I wanted to do something before it got even worse.

Anyway, I’m astounded by the amount of suppression I’m feeling, struggling to get my head around it! Having to force myself to eat anything and when I do eat I’m eating very slowly, such a change from before when I would scoff food down! Is anyone else feeling kind of creeped out by how different it feels?!

Not really had any side effects so far other than feeling really tired and having to have a nap when I got home from work yesterday!
