Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Im on w1 end of d3 and Im feeling properly hungry for the first time and I need the strength not to eat! Snacks before bed are my downfall and I’m trying hard not to cave. Any suggestions?

I think denying all cravings might make you want something more. I’d think about how to satisfy it with a small token. Portion control is key. How about a Freddy, or something very small to not feel like you’re really denying yourself something you enjoy. It’s trying to find a balance that you can live with long term.

I’m a fan of chocolate coated almonds in the small pack so by the time I’ve shared with DH it’s the perfect portion.

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow You must have read my mind! I’ve just had a mini bag of chocolate buttons 😀

@Alabamasunset I’m on day 5 of my first week - I have eaten a lot less but mainly because for me I’ve felt sick all the time , I’m not sure if that’s what people mean by suppression - I feel sick all day rather than ‘stuffed on small amounts’ if you get what I mean - and so far have lost zilch and that’s onn1250 calories a day - I will give it the 4 weeks but if I lose next to nothing then I won’t carry on because I would rather eat 1250 calories a day for a few months , and not feel sick - I generally eat well and am not a massive ‘food noise’ person - I just I feel eat too much ‘good food’ especially in an evening as I like cooking and I like a few glasses of wine a few times week so to be honest for me there are probably easier and cheaper ways to persist and get 3 stone off - I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being honest and saying it didn’t work for you - I do suspect some think it simply melts fat off by magic - and so far I haven’t felt well on it - I always like to be positive and yes I think for some who have massive food noise issues or cant stop eating it may do the trick -

I have Cyclizine for nausea due to my cycles and it really helps - something you could consider if the nausea is causing you issues? I had HG last year so fully understand not wanting to feel sick all of the time!!

Crikeyalmighty · 07/04/2025 21:27

Yes I might get some in as I do intend to at least do the 4 doses I’ve paid for - I think though if it’s only going down by say a lb a week eating 1250 a day i will just stick to boring old calorie counting - as I can manage that quite easily without suppression and not feeling sick - I lost 2 stone 6 about 18 months ago in 8 months just being incredibly careful and then stupidly let it creep back up, but still a stone and a half down from what I was- and being honest I thought this would speed it up quicker - but we shall see - I may be being overly pessimistic

Potato1234 · 07/04/2025 21:36

@Crikeyalmighty possibly, I feel similar but only started mine on Saturday so trying to remain positive - it may well be that the dose is too low to notice much difference but only time will tell. Definitely understand not wanting to feel nauseous and have the same result without the MJ! Hopefully it eases off for you

For evening snacks maybe something with healthy fat and protein would work like apple and peanut butter or some cheese. Or greek yogurt with frozen cherries and choc shot low sugar chocolate sauce. If you mix the cherries into the yogurt and let them sit for 10mins it's almost a bit like ice-cream (sort of lol).. Low GI, healthy but tasty and filling. I haven't started the meds yet (just submitted my request so hopefully will be able to start by the end of the week) but I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant and found it a good evening snack for hunger/sweet cravings. X

Hi,
I started last week and am only on day 4 but so far so good!
I haven’t weighed myself yet but my stomach is flatter and jeans looser.
I haven’t felt hungry at all and am having to remind myself that I need to eat. Also am naturally wanting healthy foods!
My husband and son stopped for a Maccies at the weekend and the thought made me feel sick.
I started with a BMI of 33.5
15st 10lb and 5’8
Would like to get down to 12st and then see how I feel.
My tip so far would be not to worry as I was so nervous about starting and then doing the injection.
I needn’t have worried at all as I didn’t even feel it!
And have been lucky to have no side effects so far other than a slight headache and feeling cold on day 1.
If you decide to go with Medexpress DM me as I have a code which gives £40 off to both of us which is a huge help!
Good luck & look forward to reading about your journey on here. xx

Jeans feeling looser and flatter stomach both sounds great already.. I'll look forward to your 1st official weight in.

How often are people weighing? Weekly?

I'm currently waiting for the request to be approved but all being well it should be here in a few days and I plan to start on Friday night so I have the weekend to manage any symptoms. Thank you for your advice - I will try not to worry. I'm not so worried about the injections as I had to have blood thinners throughout my whole pregnancy with my son, it's just nervous it won't work and feeling a bit like this is my last hope to ever getting my weight down. Feels a bit dramatic saying that but I'm sure I'm in company with people who understand that.

I've gone with Zava for my 1st order, they're the people that Asda Pharmacy use but by going to them directly it saves money. So I'll see how I get on and definitely reach out for a discount if needed (thank you for the offer). If anyone wants to try ZAVA then let me know as I have a code for 25% off orders too 👍🏻

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 07/04/2025 22:04

@Alabamasunsetno that’s not what we mean by suppression. It’s the lack of appetite and desire to eat that makes such a difference, so there is very little feeling of self denial as you just don’t feel the desire. Early on I had some nausea, and lots of awful burps, for me I’ve learnt those are signals when I’ve under eaten, and a small snack improves how I feel. I guess a bit like morning sickness, when a small snack reduced the nausea that hit when I’d not eaten (both morning, afternoon and night). I keep some ginger oat cakes as that seems to do the trick. Also lots of fluids as it was easy not to realise that I was thirsty at first as all the signals were switched off. I hope it improves for you soon 😀

JMSA · 07/04/2025 22:10

I was in Home Bargains today. Usually I wouldn’t leave that place without chocolate and crisps, but today I did. Go me!
Today was day 5 of 2.5mg for me. I felt proper hunger at points, so am already looking forward to going up a dose!
It was part willpower today and part not really being interested in that stuff. This is unheard of for me.

Oh I didn’t know that about Zava! I ordered from Asda and picked it up on the weekend. How does it work if you want to switch providers? Could I switch next month if I need 5mg? I chose Asda for convenience and cost me £140, but following this it’s over £200, which is a lot of money. Has anyone got any advice about switching providers to get better deals?!

p.s don’t think you’re being dramatic, I feel the same. I’ve tried EVERYTHING and nothing seems to work past the first 7 pounds or so (and I have loads to lose as also had a baby in December!). I really really hope that it helps us!

Potato1234 · 07/04/2025 22:15

@JMSA Do you have to wait the 4 weeks before increasing the dosage?

Ooh, I assumed so. And I wouldn’t want to waste the pen I already have. I definitely could be wrong though!

Congratulations on your new baby 💛 are they your 1st? Boy or girl? My son's my 1st and I'm still obsessed with him haha

Yeah I read somewhere about trying Zava directly they're £139 for 2.5mg & 5mg doses then the prices go up a bit after that but worked out cheaper than ASDA longer term. I don't know about changing suppliers but I assume if you're just paying as you go month by month rather than a subscription then I assume it's pretty straightforward 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm sure there are threads about it. If you do want to go with Zava direct let me know and I've got a 25% off discount code so it'll be just under £105 then 👍🏻

Crikeyalmighty · 07/04/2025 23:08

One thing I would suggest for evenings or feeling like a treat based on when I lost 2st 6 without mounjaro in 8 months was stock up on the hot chocolate 40 cal options - I found it covered off that low cal fancying something sweet thing if you still have it

Morning 😀 I took my first dose yesterday and have woken up slightly squeamish. Not sick exactly, but the thought of eating makes me feel a bit sick. I'm wondering how much of this is real and how much I'm creating in my own mind?

Incognitoburrito88 · 08/04/2025 07:43

@SausageCatYellow that doesn’t sound like a lot of food at all! For context yesterday I had:

Greek yogurt (full fat) with pineapple, strawberries, grapes and a few nuts
3 egg omelette with a slice of smoked cheese, cherry tomatoes and cucumber
homemade veggie lasagne with salad and 2 slices of garlic bread

I’m on W1 day 5 today and I’m lying in bed daydreaming about my breakfast! I’m not sure how things are going. I’m on holiday for two weeks so not weighing until I get home. I would normally have snacked and had pudding on top of what I ate yesterday but I’m certainly not getting the have to force myself to eat or forgetting to eat that some people are describing. I don’t jab again until Friday so feel I’ve got a long way to go before things possibly improve.

Reading all your posts is definitely helping but I’m feeling super jealous of all the people with strong responses when I’m not sure anything is really happening for me!

SaddlebagSal · 08/04/2025 07:46

Interesting reading the experiences of people having to adjust their thyroid doses. Past couple of days I’ve found I’ve got more “oomph”, which I put down to psychology. Ie the feeling of taking control and doing something positive. But last night I added up a couple more bits and pieces and realised this is how I felt when I first started taking my HRT.

I’m on Oestrogel so it’s really easy to tweak my dose and take it down a bit if necessary. For now I’m enjoying the oomph.

Funny, isn’t it?
I’m Week 1 Day 5 and I’m pretty sure I’m drawing on my own willpower at this point, though I can’t be totally sure 😄

I know.... I'm kind of regretting starting on a Monday as my work week will power is decent - its the weekend when I go way of track, and now I'm worried this will have run out by the weekend! Still very hopeful not be quite so fat though

If it helps I'm jealous too! I had a bit of suppression for a few days with my first jab last week but nothing so far this week. I know these first few doses are just to get your body used to the medication and most people only start to lose on the higher doses but I'm impatient 😅

SausageRoll90 · 08/04/2025 09:40

@66babe I've tried to send you a PM so let me know if you get it xx

Lundier · 08/04/2025 09:59

W1 D4

I don't think this is agreeing with me at all. I feel absolutely awful, though a little better today. Worst day was yesterday. Had to take off work as I felt so so ill. I can't be that far from the toilet.

I've barely eaten since the jab. Doing my best but can't stomach it. In total in 4 days I've eaten: a few bites of homemade pizza, half a piece of toast, a cherry tomato, about 5 mini cheddars, a cup of chicken broth. I tried to eat an apple and couldn't swallow it.

Nausea, heartburn, diarrhea, fatigue, freezing cold, and a shocking, blinding headache. Yesterday I just lay in bed in the dark, sipping water or diarolyte and running to the toilet occasionally. I'm sure I'll lose weight this way but to be honest it's too drastic for me.
