Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Yesterday was W1D4 and I had food noise worse than I had it pre jab, so not happy. Broke down and ate a kitkat and my lunch and dinner were not great choices.

I think I need to move up to 5mg next month.

I’ve just stepped on the scales for the first time since Mounjaro and I’ve lost 2lbs in 4 days. This is much too slow to hold my interest.
To be fair, I lost a load of weight last week on my VLCD, before I made the switch.
At least this way I’m eating ‘proper’ food that is healthy. And it’s sustainable.
Hopefully it will all balance out as my body adjusts. I’m staying positive.
If my losses do prove to be too slow, I’ll quit this and go it alone. I’m not paying £££s per month for Weightwatchers results, appetite suppression or not!

I can see you are disappointed but if you have just done a VLCD then you will have already lost the first week of water/glycogen stores that every diet is associated with - and 2lb in one week (4 days) is really good and very smart of you to 'get ahead' with a VLCD loss before starting MJ.

I am looking at the longer term - all my diets fail when my motivation / willpower fails ..... I see MJ as being the 'will power' after the wane to keep it going. But you also need to do healthy CC as at the end of the day whether you fast, VLCD, SW, WW - its calrories in calories out. MJ is not a fat burner - we are accountable for the input - I have chosen to IF and CC for the first week (18:6, 2MAD and 1000cal. This week I will IF and intentionally look at my protien intake (looking at Glucose Goddess) - I will actively try to change my diet establishing habit by habit over the months but ensuring CC is approriate.

There is a great video on YouTube by Juniper on how to administer. The guy says to leave the needle in place for a good 5sec count and then sure he says not to worry if a small drop comes back out.

Skinni · 07/04/2025 09:13

58 years old. 5ft 3 / 160cm

SW: Mon 31st March 84kg/BMI 32.8. 13st 3lb = 185 lb

Mon 7th April 80kg/ BMI 31.2 12st 8lb = 176 lb = -9lb /- 4kg

Thrilled with drop in BMI. Hope to transition from 'obese' to 'overweight' by the end of the month. Recognise that this first week is all water etc.

I think everyone moves up to 5mg as 2.5mg is not therapeutic but an important process to acclimatise your body to the medication - email from my provider says it takes months to see results.

Hi guys I was hoping I could join you. I've not started yet but I have an appointment with my GP this afternoon to double check there are no contradictions with my current meds before starting (I don't think there are but want to be sure) and then I'm ordering. Super keen to get started. I don't know if people are introducing themselves but a little about me

35yo mum of 1 🩵
I've been doing SW for a year and while I lost 7-10lb initially, I've struggled since to get anywhere.
I have recently been diagnosed with insulin resistant PCOS which explains alot so hopefully mounjaro will help.
Currently UK size 18/20 (realistically a 20 more often) and I'd love to be a 14/16.
My aim is to lose a few stone before we start TTC for #2 next year.

How is everyone finding it? Any tips for a soon-to-be new starter? Xx

PhantomErik · 07/04/2025 09:28

Wk2 D1 lost 4lbs which I'm very happy about.

Biggest change for me is that I'm not 'trying to be good' it's that I'm no longer craving the stuff that has made me like I am. I could have happily lived on carbs, but haven't had bread at all & haven't missed it.

I feel very free of food & just eating sensible food in small quantities at the moment. Very happy so far, long may it last!

JMSA · 07/04/2025 09:31

@Skinni

Thank you and you’re absolutely right. It wouldn’t have bothered me if I wasn’t going on holiday later this week 😁 I think I was hoping for a last minute miracle!
I’m going to do a day of protein shakes before I leave and hope that speeds up things a bit. Last time I was on a Ryanair flight, the seatbelt was very snug indeed. I’m just hoping that I won’t have to contort myself to get the damn thing closed this time 🤣 My travel companion/friend is very slim, which doesn’t help!
My view of the whole thing will be much more long-term once I’ve got this holiday over with.

Skinni · 07/04/2025 09:37

How long are you away for and will you inject before and/or during? I would be gutted to risk reversing all of your achievments to date.

Just been reading about someone who was on a 3.75mg dose - I thought the second month was at 5mg?

That was me, I reacted quite strongly to 2.5 so didn't want to go straight up to 5mg. So I carried on at 2.5 for an extra couple of weeks before moving to 3.75mg (45 clicks of a 5mg pen or 1 full injection and 40 clicks from a 2.5mg pen). I went up to 5 on week 12.

I hit target at week 16 and am doing maintenance at the moment. I kept I. 5 last week but I've dropped to 2.5 this week to see how it goes

Oh, absolutely. The thought of sabotaging it all! 😱
I’m going for one week. Will jab the day before I go (in case of side effects) and as soon as I get back.
It will (hopefully!) be the first holiday I’ve been on where food noise doesn’t dominate 😄

Skinni · 07/04/2025 09:58

Brilliant - thats the attitude.

Skinni · 07/04/2025 09:37

I went on holiday, all inclusive, just before target. I injected the day before travelling, and then ate and drank what I wanted on holiday. A week later on my return I weighed in and was 2lb up. But within 2 days I was 2lb down from before holiday weight, and actually lost 4lb that week.

I think if you enjoy your holiday but then get straight back on it the weight you gain on holiday doesn't stick around. Also I think I benefited from the extra, as if my body realised it wasn't in famine so didn't need to hold on to the weight so hard. I reached target the week after.

I wanted a plan that I could live my life on, which means there will be bread and cocktails occasionally. The Mounjaro helps me not binge and balances my sugars so that not 'starving' and over eating on carbs, but if I want something I'll have it in moderation.

Someone mentioned not worrying about healthy eating now, just aiming to lose weight. I've chosen a different approach, I'm using the MJ to make it easier to switch my approach to food now to the way I'll eat on an ongoing basis, otherwise I'll just gain it all back.

I've lost 3 stone 5lb and dropped from an 18 to a 12 in 16 weeks plus 2 weeks in maintenance now.

Skinni · 07/04/2025 10:44

Yes I agree with your approach and it has to be about healthier eating avoiding the highs and lows and living life. I think at your point your appetite suppression and weight loss were well entrenched by your holiday so imagine you didnt actually go crazy to only have a 2lb gain .... but I think right at the very start of this journey where many of us are highly anxious that this wont work and at risk of self sabotage / confidence collapse and not established suppression / weight loss / healthy eating routine - its a bit more risky.

Huge congrats on your loss and especially maintenance - what are your plans for this?

RhaenysRocks · 07/04/2025 10:57

It's v hard when you are away anywhere. I'm working at at a residential this week and on the snack table are chocolate brioche and...nothing else. The catered food is all carb so I'm going to have to go out and buy stuff if I've a hope. MJ is working well re suppression for snacks but I am hungry. Trying to drink lots, even more than usual to compensate. I'm doing jab 2 tomorrow night so it's all still new.

You could do your jab early - I did as I was getting hungry over the weekend which is a risky time - you are in a risky environment.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 07/04/2025 11:07

Fair point @Skinni 😊 yes by week 14 we had become used to 2 meals a day and less sweet things.

I didn't eat any of the breakfast pastries as I didn't fancy them, I had boiled egg, a slice of brown bread and some cheese most mornings. I drank slots of water and alternated water and alcohol in the evenings, drinking slower than I would have done in the past.

I tried different puddings most days but just a bite of each most times as it was the taste I wanted not the bulk.

Good luck on the holidays, try to enjoy, but eat mindfully 😊

SaddlebagSal · 07/04/2025 11:11

I’m half a week in after my first jab and making good progress in losing that water weight. Appetite has completely gone, but I’m also a bit stressed at the moment which also reduces my appetite. Noticing I’m feeling fuller a lot quicker and so eating smaller portion sizes, which is excellent, it’s one of my aims towards more sensible long term eating habits.

In addition to the weight dropping, another key aim for me is to reduce my blood sugars. Last year they tipped over from “a bit high, we’ll monitor them annually” to “pre diabetic and please lose weight”. That test will come around again in July, which will be three months in for me. Hopefully that will be long enough to drop them out of the pre diabetic range. 🤞🏻

Your weight loss there is the equivalent of just short of 4lbs per week. That’s hardly a slow weight loss.

I’d agree - it depends on your starting weight of course, but I thought a maximum of 2lb a week was the figure to aim for for sustainable, healthy loss.

wordywitch · 07/04/2025 13:33

Nice to see everyone’s updates on this lovely Monday :-)

I am W1D5 and this morning the scales said I am down 1.8kg, though I did start on day 2 of my period so I reckon some of that was water retention and that in actual fact I’ve lost 1kg as that was my weight the day before I started. Still happy with that either way.

Side effects have been minimal to none and I still have an appetite just far less cravings for carbs or sugar. I eat a mainly Mediterranean diet and don’t count calories or macros, I am hoping I won’t need to as I find CC very tedious but if I need to I will.

In other positive side effects, my energy levels are very high so I’ve been able to exercise and walk a lot more, and this morning I went for an NHS health check and my blood pressure was excellent after being borderline high for the last couple of years. Does anyone know if Mounjaro can impact BP that quickly? If so that’s another amazing benefit 🤩

EllaSaturday · 07/04/2025 15:10

Hi everyone! I just had my pen delivered but waiting till Thursday as I am on a work trip and was worried about tge side effects. Would not want tummy issues whilst flying!
I am hoping to lose the impulse to mindlessly snack on chocolate. My meals are fairly healthy and not all that big, but the snack are not helping.
And insulin resistant PCOS, peri menopause and underactive thyroid are wreaking havoc.
Been trying to lose weight since I was a child really so food us always on my mind.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 07/04/2025 15:17

@EllaSaturday are you on Levothyroxine? If so keep an eye on how you feel on Mounjaro. Within days of taking my first dose my heart rate increased and I felt hot all the time. I thought it was a Mounjaro side effect but it seemed to kick start my thyroid and I was over medicated, after a blood test I've reduced my dose and feel better it, I'm waiting for the next blood test.

I'd only heard of people needing more, due to slow absorption, not less. So I thought I'd best share so you can watch out for it.

I've got hashimotos so an immune condition rather than damaged or missing thyroid. Others with immune conditions have noted improvements in things like psoriasis etc.

Good luck with everything 😊

Sounds similar to me with the pcos, insulin resistance, and thyroid playing havoc. I have borderline under active thyroid so it's not enough for treatment but they're keeping an eye on it. Just felt like I have so many things going on making weight loss harder... hoping Mounjaro helps us both 🤞🏻

I got the green light from the GP this afternoon - no contraindications with my current meds and he was supportive, so while we don't need a GP to approve or sign off to start it, I do feel better knowing it's definitely ok. Going to order tonight hopefully when my toddlers gone to bed 👍🏻
