Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

@RhaenysRocksI feel the same about tracking calories and definitely don’t want to do that, though I did briefly think maybe I should track macros to ensure I’m getting the right mix of nutrients. But I need to give my head a wobble because, as you said, I already know how to eat sensibly and just have to do it. I know I’d become stressed about logging everything too. Thanks for the reminder.

qotsa · 03/04/2025 19:02

I started MJ in November and just wanted to share a tip. In December I copied and pasted my MedExpress referral code a few times, a few different days. Probably only three different days though and Mumsnet stop you posting multiple times if you do it too many times on the trot. So not many. Anyway. Since March the 10th I have had so many £40 credits. I am now at over £3000, have four pens in the fridge and there’s no way I’ll use the credit as I have about a stone to go 🤦🏻‍♀️ so do it now. So wish I had as it would’ve paid for the lot. Honestly have never shared it anywhere else. Just a few threads on here. Madness. Great too - but wish someone else could use my credit 😆

SaddlebagSal · 03/04/2025 19:16

Well I’ve just done my first injection, was too impatient to wait until the weekend, and to be honest Thursdays would be a good day to do it in the future.

The instructions look a bit complicated, but I think that’s because they break down each step in great detail. It was actually quite straightforward and I barely felt the needle.

screamingsiblings · 03/04/2025 19:41

So I have my pen now.
But have also just scoffed a family sized Tiramasu. 😢
Should I wait until the weekend, and try and have a clean eating day tomorrow?
Do you think it will make any difference to having side effects?
Or should I just inject it now, tonight?

PhantomErik · 03/04/2025 20:11

I did my first injection at 9pm on Mothers Day having been out & had cake & a roast. The delivery arrived around 5pm & I couldn't wait any longer! Very mild nausea the next morning when cleaning my teeth but no other negative side effects so far.

screamingsiblings · 03/04/2025 20:14

ok. I'm going to go and do it now….

ValliBec · 03/04/2025 20:17

@SaddlebagSal snap! I did my jab around 5.30 this evening. I’ve had it since Saturday but nerves got the better of me.
I had eggs, avocado and tomatoes for dinner and was much burpier (is that a word!?) than I normally am. Took me a bit by surprise 😆 so not sure if it’s already kicked in? Will update tomorrow.
Really glad to have found this group- nice to know I’m not alone!

Definitely.

The last week I've been paying attention to feelings of nausea, stomach cramps or strange aches and pains. Now I've taken the jab I can tell myself, "Yes, but you had that last week before you'd even had the injection".

I injected last night at 10.30pm. It was more fiddly than I’d expected but the Juniper video (although I’m using Pharmacy2u) was much more helpful.

I had a scone with cream and jam and a glass of milk before bed because I’d had my dinner before 5pm and was peckish. Woke up this morning and I’m actually hungrier than usual. I normally don’t eat until midday or later but am making my breakfast in a minute. So for now it has increased my food noise. I’m dreading being one of the cohort for whom it doesn’t work.

Also I’ve gained 2 and a quarter lbs this morning, up to 215 & 1/4lbs.

Feeling deflated and anxious.

I also bizarrely woke up ravenous on the first morning. Did a bit of research and it’s most likely GERD or reflux presenting itself as hunger like pains. Have taken appropriate omaprozole - which isn’t instant, today (day 2) has been better. Think once the symptoms of heartburn are gone will feel better. Am crossing fingers 🤞

The medical word is eructation. Grin. I have a small hiatus hernia and as a consequence I can do some very impressive and anti-social burping.

Yikes! After writing my latest positive post I clearly got too smug and now I'm being punished. Since yesterday I've felt very hungry and not really satisfied after most meals. I'm due to inject my 2nd dose of 2.5mg tomorrow so I'm wondering if it's simply a case of the medicine wearing off. It's annoying to be feeling hungry and thinking about food again. :( I know it's only early days though.

I came here to pretty much write this post - I’ve definitely not been as hungry like before the injection but definitely more hungry today and actually made a couple of not so good choices today!! Due my 2nd injection tomorrow evening.

not going to let it get me down though because like you said it’s still early days and I’ve had a positive start so far

ValliBec · 03/04/2025 21:22

@SaddlebagSal Love that I’m learning new things 😂I’m hoping it was just a one-off, not sure my husband would be keen on that happening post every meal!

TimeToGetThin · 03/04/2025 21:25

Oh that’s interesting @clayspice2

I am nearly 24 hours in and I think the appetite suppression is kicking in.

After my breakfast at 10am I didn’t eat until 3pm and it was just (another! Trying to finish the pack) scone this time with butter and jam.

It’s almost 9.30pm now and I haven’t had dinner yet due to putting the kids to bed and being busy with other things. For the past few years I’ve been eating dinner very late (often at 10.30/11pm) but the past few weeks I’ve decided to skip dinner (and go straight to bed myself) if I don’t get to eat before kids’ bedtime.

Tonight is a weird one because although I’m not “stomach hungry” I do feel “Head/psychologically hungry” and also a bit jittery from not having very much since 10am. I should just go to bed now but I “feel” I need to have something.

Pinklady81 · 03/04/2025 21:32

Can I ask how much are you all paying for a month roughly please?

I paid £109 (£169 less £60 discount code) plus £6 something delivery with Pharmacy2U but strongly considering switching to MedExpress after reading PP!

Check Monj.co.uk for the discount codes.

I received a £20 voucher off my next dose with my first order so next dose will be around £156 inc. delivery.

Newmum110 · 03/04/2025 21:56

I've found my tribe. Can't wait to join ye properly next week. Have about 4 stone to lose & can't wait for it yo happen. Will check in with starting weight next week.

I paid £169 for Asda click and collect. I appreciate that’s way more than everyone else on here but I can’t wait in for a parcel and also haven’t told anyone in my house (for complex reasons) that I’m doing it so didn’t want some massive refrigerated parcel turning up and blowing my cover!

RhaenysRocks · 03/04/2025 22:41

I had a read on one of threads from a few months back. Obviously with some months of experience they'd identified issues with loss off suppression on day 5/6 so those on higher doses were splitting it and injecting half on day 1 and half on day 4, or similar strategies. They did recommend not messing about with it until much more familiar but it does make sense that maybe a smaller dose topped up more regularly would even out the effects...but I would not advocate administering it in anything other than the way prescribed for now.

Lundier · 03/04/2025 23:51

I've gone with Juniper, for the exercise plan. I'm not keen on counting calories and won't be doing that.

I have weighed myself, though, and am currently 86.2kg or 13 stone 8. Up until a few years ago I was happily 64kg, eating basically the same as now. Or it feels like I was, anyway. It really feels like it.

I'd love to be 64kg again. I'd settle for 70kg. I'm really interested in this whole endeavour. What a strange transitional time to live through. People have such Big Feelings about weight and what it means, now. Will this fade if it really becomes optional?

This is a really good tip!

I'm forever scrutinising my various aches and pains. You're right, in my case at least, they could basically be anything, and definitely predate my WLI 😂🤦‍♀️

I have had similar thoughts - it really does feel like a transitional time! So many potential knock-ons. Changing society's attitude to food, possibly? Will it also drastically reduce the amount of diabetes / endometriosis / heart disease etc? Will our great grandchildren be agast at pictures of hoards of overweight people? Really interesting to think about.

Also, it's interesting to me, all the Big Feelings that people have about WLI and weight loss in general now. So emotive. So much weird judgment / shame etc around it. My mum is really worried / annoyed that I've started, for example. But not really for any particular reason as far as I can tell, except that "there might be side effects", same as any drug.

£114 for 2.5mg pen, through MedExpress. This includes postage and a sharps bin for the needles.

JMSA · 04/04/2025 00:49

How are everyone’s energy levels?
Mine are fine during the day at work, as work is obviously something that I HAVE to do. But home is a different story Sad I am absolutely exhausted. I come home and can’t stop myself from having a massive nap. Then I’m awake and going to bed at crazy o’clock. I’ve barely seen my teens in days Sad
It feels like I’m in a really bad cycle. My washing pile is insane because I just haven’t had the energy to tackle it. I’m not sure how normal this is, but I’m guessing it’s not!

I paid £100 + £6 P&P through Zava (who are the wholesaler for Asda) with discount code from someone on this thread. If you want to use mine its REF J62XQHK. I ordered after hours on Thurs eve, was asked for 3 photos (of feet on scale, side view and front view all with piece of paper with days date on it) on Fri + quick onlline Q&A - pen arrived Sat am. V efficient. Injected on Mon. No issues - finding this thread v supportive.

My energy was low at the start of the week - but I was anxious and very self conscious looking out for side effects etc. Feel more energised now (day 4).

This is what Zava sent in an email today - think its notable that month one is maybe not a therapeutic dose - just body acclimatising. I would be disappointed if I didnt lose this month!!
