Mounjaro April 2025 Starters

1000 replies

OpheliaABC · 26/03/2025 19:28

Anyone else starting soon/in April? I've seen there has been lots of threads for new starters for the previous months which looked helpful so I'm starting one too.

Starting weight: 98kg
Goal weight: 75kg

I will be starting either at the end of this week or early next.

I have a huge appetite, lots of cravings for junk food, and I'm hoping to get my portion sizes under control. Three members in my immediate family have now been diagnosed with diabetes and I'd rather not join them.

I'm having full blood work done in a few days to make sure I don't have deficiencies, thyroid problems or overly high blood glucose levels. Trying to give myself a full health MOT but I love my food so it won't be an easy ride. I can only hope this works for me and that my portion sizes will be halved without going hungry as I've seen happen to some people.

Welcome, if you are joining me! 😊

Hi everyone,

I took my first dose yesterday and was quite nauseous all day. Woke up this morning feeling really sick and vomitted. Also have some diarrhea and burping so seems like I am in the for the full list of side effects 😵‍💫

Anyone who had side effects when did these improve? I know everyone is different but some stories of hope may help get me through!

My lessons: Don’t eat heavy foods when starting out. When going up a dose to inject in the morning after a 12 hour fast and continue fasting until that evening (20 hours at least) and eat rice or bread—simple carbs and no protein. This prevented me getting the upset stomach and vomiting/diarrhoea....Do IF everyday. I didn’t focus on movement to start with as it felt like such a big hurdle. I just drank plenty of clear fluids, kept to 3 meals a day, used a calorie counting app to stay in a deficit and focused on trying to build good habits around protein and my 5 a day.

Can anyone help?

I went through the process with ouschk on Friday and paid and haven’t heard a thing since?

I thought there would be an approval email in between this and receiving it - I had to specify a delivery day when I ordered

I ordered my first with Oushk, I got a confirmation email straight away saying it has been passed on to one of the prescribers. I then got a confirmation email a couple of days later.

Peasinthefreezer · 03/04/2025 13:21

Took my first dose on Tuesday morning, was fine watched the video posted up thread on how to which was really helpful.

Certainly less hungry, not felt the need to grab a bag of crisps or some cheese (my biggest downfall, Otto finish off my kids leftovers! Feel fine a little queasy maybe but nothing that has stopped me from doing anything.

Is that a bit tricky then as you extract the bonus dose - which would be week 5? 35 days?

Also do our suppliers expect us to puchase every 28 days ... and will there be a problem if you are puchasing every 35 days?

I just had a look at this thread. I think I will try to get a fifth dose out with an extra syringe and take it, if there's enough left.

I will still order my next pen as normal. It will stay safe in the fridge unopened until I need it on week 6 (or week 5 if I don't manage to extract the "bonus dose" from the previous pen). :)

Hey everyone

i injected for the first time yesterday afternoon (at about 5) but was basically so tired (not because of Mounjaro!) that I went to bed without dinner.
No side effects today though I do feel a bit more lacking in energy. I had made myself a big container full of overnight oats for lunch (like one of those Sistema plastic soup cups for microwaving). I enjoyed every mouthful and stopped myself before finishing. Not because I was uncomfortably full, but because I was worried about the side effects of eating too much.
I feel satisfied and comfortable but the remainder of my lunch is calling out to me.
I really hope this works out for me, but I can see why people try to sort out their food issues psychologically first Grin

RhaenysRocks · 03/04/2025 14:18

Day 2. Same smoothie for breakfast, Clementine at break and just had an Aldi chicken salad and yoghurt protein pot. Feel v full. I agree with others that I'm not finding it hard to turn down biscuits or toast. Also weirdly, I would have 5-6 cups of a tea a day, last two days I've had 1 first thing and I late afternoon. Just don't fancy it. It's breaking habits though isn't it?

wordywitch · 03/04/2025 11:06

@TimeToGetThin Try not to overthink things, it’s only been 12 hours since you took the first dose and most people say it takes 24-48 hours to start having even small effects. Just keep yourself hydrated and eat healthy meals and snacks when you’re hungry, and try to put it out of your mind for now.

Thank you - you’re right! I am going to try to be positive 🤞

Is anyone else finding medexpress slow to dispatch?

Mounraine · 03/04/2025 15:29

DP messaged to say mine has arrived. Plan is: 5pm eat and 7pm yoga. Wondering when is the best time to jab. Would probably prefer to do it as soon as possible, before 5pm.

RonMJ · 03/04/2025 15:43

TimeToGetThin · 03/04/2025 09:34

I injected last night at 10.30pm. It was more fiddly than I’d expected but the Juniper video (although I’m using Pharmacy2u) was much more helpful.

I had a scone with cream and jam and a glass of milk before bed because I’d had my dinner before 5pm and was peckish. Woke up this morning and I’m actually hungrier than usual. I normally don’t eat until midday or later but am making my breakfast in a minute. So for now it has increased my food noise. I’m dreading being one of the cohort for whom it doesn’t work.

Also I’ve gained 2 and a quarter lbs this morning, up to 215 & 1/4lbs.

Feeling deflated and anxious.

If you ate a carbs heavy supper like that before starting MJ would you have been hungry the next morning?

The dose takes 12+ hours to peak, and 2.5mg is only to get you ready for the therapeutic levels to come. I don’t think you need to worry yet that it won’t work for you.

have a think about what you ate the day before you started. Was it fatty/rich/spicy? These are often the culprits that cause these side effects.

There’s some good advice in here and some that I couldn’t live with - so please don’t anyone think “I’ve got to do it that way or it won’t work”. I don’t eat heavy meals, and by default I fast for 12 hours before jabbing as I do it first thing in the morning but only because the first pen arrived in the morning post and I was eager to start straight away (New Year’s Eve) and I’ve carried on at the same time each week. I use the app to monitor my macros and calories.

But there’s no way I could fast all day, afterwards. And I don’t have simple carb meals or avoid protein after jabbing. In fact, I’ve not eaten rice or bread since starting - I switched to cauliflower rice, as carbs bloat me, but that’s just a personal preference. I focus on getting plenty of protein as it keeps me fuller for longer and I’m terrified if my hair falling out. And I try to hit 30g of fibre daily.

That’s not to dismiss the lessons; just wanted newbies to understand that having read through the previous month’s starters posts, there are many different ways to get through this.

If you take 5 doses from the pen, they will be on days 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 so you will be within the 30 day window.

I’ve not heard of anyone having a problem with going over 28 days between orders. Many posters seem to have a bit of a stockpile, often saying it’s for tapering down/maintaining at the end of their weight loss stage.

PhantomErik · 03/04/2025 16:31

I started on Sunday evening so I'm on week 1 day 4 & so far so good. No side effects really, very slight nausea on Monday morning but that's about it.

I'm finding it really strange to not crave any sort of bread or sugary things. Have fancied & eaten salad & fruit & making myself eat protein. I've noticed I'm chewing more slowly & taking smaller bites of food. Also my dinner plates suddenly look huge, it's very strange but very freeing.

I was really nervous doing the injection but it was absolutely fine.

Starting weight is 16.6 at 5'5 tall, age 44.

This was a specific response to PP who experienced D&V early on - and seems consistent with NHS advice to manage D&V - light, low fibre, easy to digest foods.

Louise071 · 03/04/2025 16:35

Had my first dose yesterday, and definitely not feeling any effects yet, I'm absolutely starving and can't wait for my dinner!! Patience is not a strength of mine Confused

Stepfordian · 03/04/2025 16:36

So I’m 24 hours in, I had a chicken sandwich for lunch at about 1 and I still feel full now at 4:30, normally I’d have had a sandwich, crisps, chocolate bar and I’d be ready to snack by now.

Sorry, I missed the original post and thought it was general new start advice. Apologies.

What apps are people using to track calories or macros, and to record weight loss?

RhaenysRocks · 03/04/2025 17:05

@wordywitch I'm not to be honest. I think the whole point is to try and forget about food, not make it a focus so Im stocked up on sensible options, lots of chicken, veg, cauli rice, yoghurt, smoothie ingredients, nuts, cheese, berries etc and just having those as and when. Whenever I used fitness pal or similar I get so pissed off trying to work out accurate info and the time it takes it has contributed to me stopping completely.

I’m using NutraCheck, out of curiosity rather than calorie-counting.

Mounraine · 03/04/2025 17:15

So, I’ve just taken my first ever jab. Unlike most people I have to say that I really didn’t find it easy. However, it wasn’t painful, I’ve put the pain as 1 out of whatever on the Shotsy app.

Bless those people who have to inject regularly and for years for all sorts of medical reasons.

How has it been for you since you started?

Good first few days and then hunger came back but I’ve fasted & calorie counted so still hoping for a loss of some sort.

I've not had any issues with this. I started in December and I worried about Christmas impact on post so ended up ordering my 2nd pen very early. The supplier didn't bat an eye at the longer gap between the next pen purchase at all
