Welcome one and all to the next instalment of our magical weight-loss journeys!

Good luck over the next few weeks. Loving all the ongoing support and encouragement.

Has anyone seen a badger? I’ve lost one!

Please excuse the name change - issues logging in with old/new app.
W4 D7, weigh in day
SW 96kg
CW 90.2kg
GBMI 22.5! Or at least in the healthy range

i was hoping to get to 90kg, but I’ll take 90.2! That’s nearly 6kg I’ve lost in 1 month.

i ended up ordering a 5 pen - I’m planning on taking 2.5 this week, but I wanted to be able to go up if I felt I needed it, and they were the same price.

No one has noticed/said anything, but I’m feeling clothes are looser. I’d love to lose faster but I’m worried about loose skin etc and I know I’ll hit a plateau at some point and want options.

My goal for this month is to up the exercise - I’d been doing better with steps (but no so well this week). What do people recommend - I need something that doesn’t involve lifting weights as I have pelvic floor issues?

HoratioBum · 21/03/2025 08:13

W5 D2, so second day on 5mg and I’ve lost three pounds in three days. It really is mystifying as to how MJ works as I spent a month losing and gaining the same pound. Not doing anything different, in fact I’ve done slightly less exercise than usual as I’ve had too many chores around the house this week.
Last night I just couldn’t face dinner but made myself eat. I always found on Jab day that I feel slightly queasy but that passes in a day or so. No other side effects so far apart from a few burps and a gurgling tummy.
Got family and friends over this weekend so lots of eating out and alcohol. We’ll have to see how that goes as normally I’d be the person straight in with the food and drink! I haven’t told anyone apart from DH and I’m not ready to yet - I think my fear stems not just from judgement but from what happens if it doesn’t work and I’ve told people I’m using MJ - they’ll think Christ she couldn’t even lose weight with ‘help’. ( I know this is all in my head but I can’t deal with it right now until I’ve seen some physical loss that’s not just scales based.)

DelightfullySoSo · 21/03/2025 08:45

Marking my place here with a wee update:

Tales from the Scales:

SW: 16st 2lbs
CW: 15st 5lbs

  • 11lb loss in month 1

Totally thrilled with progress - at my lightest for over a decade after yo-yo-ing around 16 stones which was extremely depressing. MJ is working for me!

Side Effects: Zero! I'm a belly injector. No bad side effects since a headache/bleurgh feeling right after my 1st dose.

Eating: really clean, no takeaways or junk (not had crisps other than lentil waves (yum!) or chocolates or cakes/ biscuits at all). Eating loads of eggs, chicken, veg, yogurts, some fruit, porage, salads, soups - and as often as I want but getting full quickly. I'd rather eat 2-3 meals a day as I'm 48 and set in my ways - but with MJ I am learning than 5-6 very small meals or snacks works much better to keep hunger at bay and avoid over-filling and feeling urgh.

Exercise: my local pool has been closed so I get myself out for a brisk walk for 30 mins every day except a Sunday. I do lots of housework on a Saturday (I work fulltime) which balances out so I can relax on a Sunday. Back to the pool next week when it opens, and then back to the gym for strength training come the Easter hols.

Calories: Hitting about 1200-1300 average daily cals over the week. Feel hungry often but completely manageable and just grab a piece of fruit or a yogurt and it vanishes.

Mindset: Focused and determined and just reminding myself it's a marathon not a sprint as I've been obese all my adult life. The GLP studies were done over 72 weeks - and people lost on average almost the same % of body weight.. so I console myself I'm losing faster than some and slower than others.. it doesn't bother me at all because it's my race 😊

Helpful Tools:

  1. Water - water - water. This often squashes a hunger pang easily, especially in the evening when I'm happy I've eaten well but 'could do with a wee something..'.
  2. Coffee. I take a small decaf coffee if I'm feeling peckish but know it's not legit hunger. This suppresses my appetite for more than a couple of hours.
  3. Tracker. I bought a 'journal called 'My Health & Wellbeing Tracker & Journal' off Amazon - cute rose pink cover and super helpful trackers for weight, habits, journaling, setting goals and reflection etc. It is my best buddy and keeps me motivated and zen lol!
  4. Youtubers. I follow a few YT'ers on the same journey (UK 'real life vlog' style ones so I know it's actually real!!) I find this really encouraging and interesting as no one I know is on a GLP (or letting on that they are!)
PerditionCatchMySoul · 21/03/2025 09:12

Why is it so important to drink so much water on MJ? I think I need to be more conscious of this. I have a few large glasses a day, but not 2-3 litres…..

SpiralSister · 21/03/2025 09:18

Hi and welcome, @Kate240!

I get your apprehension, honestly I do. It took me 4 months to get up the courage to start! The thing is, none of us can tell you how you, personally, are going to react to MJ. The experience of side effects varies wildly - not only from person to person, but from day to day, week to week and dose to dose.

It literally goes from no side effects whatsoever, to unable to function and have stop completely. The thing to note though, is that according to the research, for the majority of people the side effects are mild and manageable, and go away with time as you adjust to the drug.

I think that if I were you, I’d pick a supplier with a good support offer (won’t be the cheapest), and start when you have a few free days. If it works for you, you’re going to be delighted. I am!

Wishing you luck.

And I'll just echo everything here! It took me months to get the courage to start. I've had weeks with no side effects, I have a few at the moment but it's perfectly manageable and I'm so glad I started!

hennybeans · 21/03/2025 09:38

Jab 6 for me today.
Only 400g off this week but I’m fine with that because I’ve had a terrible virus for the past two weeks and horrible nausea. So I’ve barely been able to eat except things like toast and smoothie. I’m just about recovered and back on the healthy eating.

I’m slowly working my way up to 5mg. I’ve had 4mg today, 3mg last week, 2.5 mg before that.

I tried cottage cheese for the first time today, Longley Farm pineapple. I was expecting it to taste a bit sour like lumpy yogurt. To my surprise, it was salty tasting like cheese. I had to spit it out. I don’t think I’m a cottage cheese person!

Hangryfastjo · 21/03/2025 09:45

Quick question

I have 2 home cappuccinos a day, look forward to them, theyre a ritual drink 🤣. Went up to 5mg on Monday. Suffering with nausea after having no side effects. And I really feel like the coffee is making it worse. Anyone else gone off coffee? Feel like this would make me sad if it was that 😢

OntheTrainX · 21/03/2025 10:02

@Hangryfastjo nothing would put me off coffee! But I’ve seen on other threads that people have gone off it. Tea, also.

@Kate240 the minor side effects are worth it in my opinion. I look and feel so much healthier l since I started jabbing on 12/2/25 and increased my exercise. I haven’t been sick or had gastro issues. It’s mild nausea, minor fatigue, and coldness for me. All manageable, although I will say that I went to the rugby last weekend and didn’t enjoy the occasion as much as usual due to feeling a little bit groggy. I think “all-dayers” are a bit beyond me currently but that’s no bad thing.

Everyothernamewasalreadyinuse · 21/03/2025 10:08

Morning All,

Checking in. Feeling ok this week. Have a period from Hell, so feel swollen and bloated.

SW - 247.8lb
week 1 - 235.7lb
week 2 - 232.6lb
week 4 - 230.1lb
week 6 - Did not weigh
Week 7 - 226.6lb
Week 8 - 221.3lb
Week 9 - 217.3lb

Pleased with the progress so far, 5mg is working well, so am going to stay on it for the next dose. Appetite is increasing, which is good as was finding it hard to get the calories in, but am up to around 1400 a day now

Oh no! I hope not. For your sake. I’d miss mine dreadfully too. Could you cut down to one?

I have one a day and would hate not to. I also have a tumeric honey latte ever other evening, alternating with cacao and collagen. It keeps my calories and good fats up and is comforting (and is a lot better than wine!)

Could you try something similar - unless it’s the milk setting you off?

Hangryfastjo · 21/03/2025 11:00

@SpiralSister they sound like nice alternatives, I'll look into them. I'm wondering if it's more the coffee is filling me, leaving me with little room for food to fuel me. Not going to have my afternoon one and maybe try a weekend without.
I've always had nausea when I've needed to eat, and feeling too full to eat continuously isn't helping.

WoolerOwl · 21/03/2025 11:21

Wk4 2.5mg jab, taken just now. One day early as I'd delayed a previous dose by a few days and wanted to go early with this one to get me back to a Friday injection day, and prepare for 5mg next week.

Felt a bit light headed just now, probably low blood sugar, so had a snack and feel better now.

For those considering starting, my side effects have been minimal. Headache to start with, but went with paracetamol and more water. Gurgly stomach. Slight constipation but easily solved with fibre tablets and an occasional sachet of Movicol. I take Magnesium anyway at night, so have also doubled that. Anxiety feeling on the first day or two after injection. And a bit of sleeplessness the first night.

Full very quickly, so eating smaller meals. No food noise until about day 5/6, but even then more manageable. Eating lower carb with some intermittent fasting. I just don't have that desperate, ravenous feeling all the time (partly caused by migraine preventative medication). I feel so much better generally, skin glowing, joints not aching as much, more energy. Waistbands feel looser. Will do monthly weigh in next week when I go to supervising pharmacy to collect next pen. Intending to move up to 5mg.

MissionToSize10 · 21/03/2025 11:51

Checking in. I did 5 weeks at 2.5mg. Today ive gone up to 5mg. Did it this morning and ive got a headache/sicky feeling coming on.

in the 5 weeks, i started at 17.3 stones/lbs and im now 16.8 stones/lbs = -9lb loss. Happy with that overall. Clothes feeling looser, i feel much better internally/flexibly! Its hard to explain but internally, i feel reduced fatness! 😂

just so glad no one found the pen in the veg drawer hidden under avocados and aubergines! 🍆 🥑 🙊

Ke11 · 21/03/2025 12:04

Weigh in for start of week 8

Sw:116.5kg
Cw:106.6kg
Loss so far: 9.9kg/21.8lb
Loss this week: 0.8kg or 1.7lb

Pleased with how it's all going so far and have just ordered another 5mg pen. I'll be attempting the extra dose next week so if it goes wrong I'll have the new pen for backup.

My rate of loss has slowed slightly but to be expected I think since I had big losses at the start. I'll see how I go for another month on 5 before I decide about moving up. Very little in terms of side effects again other than feeling very cold the first day. I did have one lot of diarrhoea this week after I had a very greasy chicken thigh from one of the Costco cooked chickens, I wasn't surprised since it was very greasy.

Hopefully starting back up with swimming this weekend.

I was going to buy ice-cream yesterday, haven't had any since I started but even with giving myself permission, I looked and just didn't want any of them.

I did have a tiny junk binge yesterday, a bag of sainsburys prawn crackers and a couple of squares of Scottish tablet, felt horrible about an hour after, sort of glad since it makes me want to limit junk even more

Ke11 · 21/03/2025 12:56

@Kate240 in answer to your questions

  1. I think I've had diarrhea twice in nearly 8 weeks, both following greasy food, it stopped after one toilet visit each time.

2.for me the worst nausea was after dose 1 and 2 of 2.5 and I think it was because I jabbed not long before bed, switched to morning jab and it's much less, I've never actually thrown up. I do take a 24 hour anti heartburn pill omeprazole I think after the jab too.

3 my worst headache was after dose 1 of 5mg,it was just annoying, fixed it by drinking lots of water with electrolytes and taking an ibuprofen.

4 mu worst side effects tend to be 4 to 24 ours after a dose, the rest of the week I barely have any

5 luckily I haven't had much constipation, I'm going less because I eating a lot less.

6 not experienced low blood sugar but it is noted in the possible side effects. If you are worried about this speak to your prescriber or your gp. You could also buy a blood glucose tester and do the finger prick test at home. Having done this myself in the past, I found these more painful than the mounjaro jabs. I barely feel the jab each week.

I had similar thoughts and after starting I wish I had done it earlier, it's been a real game changer for me.

Also remember everyone is different and a lot of people find side effects ease off after a few weeks. A lot of people also don't get any side effects.

I would recommend you try and eat as simple foods as possible in the day or two before you take your first dose to give yourself the best start as lingering greasy food could mean you get some bad side effects.

Going up to 5mg this weekend and weirdly even though it's Thursday I'm not that hungry! Cakes in the office today and I wasn't even really tempted either. Starting to doubt whether it's actually worth going up to 5mg given the horrible side effects everyone seems to have. Supposed to be on Saturday morning, debating doing it a day early, also wondering whether to do the 3.75mg thing instead. I can't decide!

I'm reading a lot of people being quite frustrated by slow losses and notice quite a few seem to be on 1200 calories which always strikes me as very low (too low) for overweight people, I'm not convinced a large body can be properly fuelled on that. The last time I made serious attempt to lose weight (successfully at the time) I learned quite quickly that it was miserable to be that restrictive and I lost more if I ate more and moved more. I'm applying that this time too and staying around 1500 calories (it is a struggle some days to get up to that I admit) but I feel it works.

For me (at or around 16st) even reducing my daily cals to 1500 (pre-MJ) would at best keep me at the same weight. I really believe in the set point theory - my body was just stuck and it's only now that I'm on 1200-1300 average that the weight is coming off at long last. I guess it also depends what you eat - I am also a believer that 1500 calories of junk/carbs/booze is going to work against your system releasing fat more than fruit/veg/clean eating. It's fascinating - all trial and error for every-body literally :)

MynameisJune · 21/03/2025 13:22

@Kate240 I waited a year, NYE 2023 I told my DH I was starting OZ/MJ jabs because I was so sick of being the fat one, being unable to lose weight or I’d lose a bit and then put it back on. But I listened to all the negativity online and got scared.

Started MJ 19/02, have lost 9lb since then and feel so much better. I think because it targets inflammation too it feels like I’ve lost more.

Side effects have been minimal especially on 2.5mg, I was super tired at first but after about a week and half that abated, I’ve had a few headaches but nothing painkillers couldn’t solve. I did have constipation for the first 3 weeks but resolved with lactulose and plenty of water.

Did my first 5mg on Monday, had no problems until Monday night into Tuesday but I think I’d actually eaten something a bit dodgy and that upset my tummy because I’ve not had any issues since then.

Overall I wish I’d have been brave last year and started then. I don’t think you’ll regret it.

Another 1.75 lbs (0.8kg) off this week. 18lbs (8.16kg) lost since starting MJ 6.5 weeks ago.

I’ve been eating around 1900 cals a day although I am not being super strict. Lots of protein, salad and veg but I’m still eating a grab bag of crisps every day, sometimes twice. I might need to tighten up on food intake soon because my BMI is 29.5 now so my body might start “holding on to” fat stores in the coming weeks, I guess. I do a lot of exercise and am very happy with my muscle tone from all the lifting I’ll see how it goes.

Shefliesonherownwings · 21/03/2025 16:49

It’s been a really rough day today. I’m on W4, D4 and I have had really bad stomach cramps, nausea and some diarrhoea. I think it’s because I had sweet and sour prawns and rice for lunch yesterday which was probably too rich for me. I only ate half but I am paying for it today. I noticed similar side effects after some pizza last week but today is worse. Guess now I know not to even go near anything rich or fatty, which is a good thing I suppose.

MJSpideySenses · 21/03/2025 17:42

Thanks @UsernameShmusername2024 I'm not sure where I saved it from, but here is the blank template for you to save.

I'm shattered. Switching over to Zava for my 3rd pen so need to muster up the energy to take photos tonight.

Bit of a disappointing weigh in today (i weigh everyday tbh so i know a medium up on the scale will be followed by a bigger down) but based on today ive lost less than 1 lb this week.
First week on 5mg, no real side effects to complain about but have caught my first cold in ages so think that hasn't helped with tiredness and generally feeling a bit blah.
2nd 5 mg today, Hopefully next week I'll be able to celebrate the first full stone gone, hopefully 🤞

MatriarchCaz · 21/03/2025 21:10

10th Feb SW 90.1kg
21st Mar CW 86.2kg

Slowly slowly for me as I'm counting calories but not at a very reduced rate so It is sustainable for me. Also pop over friends once a week for wine.

Made the mistake of having a chinese meal last sunday evening and had quite spicy food. I was up all night with acid reflux which did my vocal cords in for days. Note to self = no spicy food on an evening.

So, far side effects for me have been constipation (and the reflux one night) but no sulpher burps or anything else.

Off on holiday next week so just going to try and take it easy with food etc. Already ordered my next pen, 5mg again as I feel like it's doing more for me than 2.5mg and going to take things slow.
