Welcome to thread 2 never thought we would be posting so much that we have to start a new thread.

I am still hovering around 12 and a half stone. I have been absolutely freezing to the point I have a duvet on the sofa.

I have had one NSV so far I can zip up my boots and they do not feel tight anymore.

In other news I took first 5mg last night and feel so so sick today 😭. Might have to do 3.75 next week if doesn’t reduce x

I really feel for you. I’ve posted above about my awful nausea on only 2.5mg!!

Hello! I’m new to MN because of Mounjaro and can honestly say if it hadn’t have been able to read the first person experiences of the posters here in the last few days since my first dose on Thursday night I think I might have gone insane!
I posted on another thread about swollen glands as that was the first thing - I had terrible aching from the base of my skull, down my shoulders and into my back by Friday night which was so tender to touch even my husbands hugs were painful (challenging given I’ve not told him!) luckily it wore off by Saturday but turned into incredible nausea, which gets worse when I eat (and I’m eating whole, lean food with zero snacks/junk and limited dairy), i think my calorie deficit is that bad I feel so weak and tired it’s taken me 3 hours this morning to mobilise enough to put the washer on - yesterdays load is still in the basket and I just feel so unwell I’ve had to log off sick. I have a headache too but I don’t know whether that’s hormones.

Here are my stats:

First dose 2.5mg 27/3/25
SW 12st0lb
CW 11st11
GW >10st
5ft6inches

I don’t feel I can continue as I now feel ill and injecting another dose feels like self harm to me right now. I also don’t understand how ‘microdosing’ works - I don’t remember any clicks from the Mounjaro pen, just the turning back to ‘1’ on the dial. Any advice on that appreciated as I can see it going in the bin at this rate!

Thank you for reading!

Some people do stop taking MJ because the side effects are just too much. I wonder if it's because they already have a good helping of the relevant peptides and so essentially are overdosing? I think that may be one reason why there's a limit on who can take it bmi-wise.

Anyway. To microdose, you can take half the 2.5mg dose by only turning the pen halfway to the 1 mark. People are measuring this by clicks - when you turn the pen, you should be able to hear a click. So you need to turn it half the normal number of clicks. I actually don't know what that would be but I'm sure someone will be able to tell you.

Another way is to extract a half dose with a syringe.

Either way, sorry to hear about the side effects. I hope you find a way forward.

taylorswift1989 · 01/04/2025 12:21

I'm surprised at how little weight some people on here have to lose! I'm not sure I'd risk all the side effects and expense for the sake of a couple of stone. But I'm glad if it's working for you and feels sustainable, and I know it's all relative!

Has anyone on here got a bit more to lose? I'm hoping to lose at least six stone, and could probably go to eight to be at the lower end of a healthy bmi. Would be great to connect with others who have a bit more of a journey!

There are some threads on MN of people with more than 5 or 10 to lose…

A few stones are enough to put people into obese and health jeopardising territory so that’s why those at ‘lower’ weights try to use it. For me it’s a fire break, weight was slowly creeping on and two stone becomes four, becomes six… the SE thing is chance, none of us know how we’ll be effected unless we try.

The weight you have to lose is all relative, I was obese at 13st 4lbs and now I am over weight, I will be still overweight at 10st 8lbs.

I was really unhappy and I am quite willing to have the side effects although I have had no nasty side effects.

A couple of stone extra can have a significant effect on your physical and mental health.

We are all in this together and celebrate everyone’s loses, maintains and there maybe a time that we put on a couple of pounds, I also would like to be still on the thread when I am at maintenance.

Good luck in your journey and keep us posted.

@Iamnewaroundhere Sorry to hear how rough your first week has been. I too had the terrible neck and shoulder pain. I couldnt even wash there it was so sore. It didn't happen again though when I took my 2nd dose.
When you are loading the pen, you turn it until the marker hits 1. The pen will click 60 times as you do this. To do a half dose of 1.25, you only turn it to 30 clicks. HTH

Thank you so much. I contacted Numan and I found the support appalling. The best they could offer was “Please note muscle aches/tenderness are not listed side effects of Mounjaro. It could be the case where these symptoms are unrelated to the weight loss medication or could be that you experienced an adverse effect from this medication” no shit it felt pretty adverse to me. Thankfully lots of other people on here saying the same.
They then went onto tell me to take the next dose if they had subsided! I’m almost scared to. I’m going to cancel Numan as they offer little to no support despite the claims. Thankfully their offer starting price was the same as the market rate so I’ve not overpaid but won’t pay full price will instead price match from the list that’s doing the rounds.

Coming to the end of week 2. The suppression has been even higher this week than last. I wasn't expecting that. I genuinely keep forgetting to eat. First week I was starving on day 6, but today I'm not interested. Im actually worried about not eating enough! I don't think I've lost that much, maybe 1.5 lbs, will see tomorrow am.
Tummy has been fine, just mega tired all week.

Thank you, I wondered if it was the twists rather than the clicks. That makes sense to me now.

I evidently don’t know my GLP/GIP levels but I do know I have food noise. Lots of it. I have suspected ADHD as well and am terrifically sensitive to medication, any medication so did fear this would happen and have not been disappointed.

I’ve not secured the MJ under false pretences - my BMI is 27.1, I have Atrial Fibrillation, I also have lost willpower and if I don’t do something together with perimenopause hitting I’m going to be enormous. At my recent health check at the Drs my cholesterol was elevated. For context I feel enormous for me I realise my starting weight could also feel like a goal weight for some but I mean no ill by that. It’s all relative.

Me I have 4.5 stone or 30kg as an initial goal but that puts me at the top of healthy. To be at an ideal I should be looking at 40kg off but that number is huge and I’m not sure if I could maintain 11 stone at 5’11’’

Realistically I want to sit at an easy size 12 and be able to shop where I want and feel good. I know from the past that is my happy place where I can maintain. Size 10 was always very hard work to maintain.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 01/04/2025 13:08

@taylorswift1989 I have at least 5 st to lose, I'd still be "overweight" at that going by my BMI. I think 6 st would be amazing. I've list 1st so far....

I actually can't believe I'm fat enough to lose 6 st.

Just because some of us only have a couple of stone to lose doesn't mean we don't experience the same problems that people heavier do. I used to experience terrible food noise, binge eating, boredom and stress eating. I've been trying to lose weight for 5 years, I put on 1 stone last year taking me to 13 stone at Christmas. If I hadn't lost some weight myself and then started MJ, I'd be well on my way to 14 stone.

This thread is about solidarity and support. I'm sure you didn't mean it but your post came across with judgement in it.

Best of luck with your loss.

Hello @taylorswift1989

i have between 5 and 7 st to lose depending on how I feel as I get slimmer. I’m expecting it to take at least a year though I’m hoping it will be a bit quicker. I can see why people might use the injections from a lighter starting point, part of me wishes things hadn’t got to this point, that I had done something about it sooner.

how are you finding it, I’ve gone up to 3.75 mg this week but may make the move to 5mg next week. I get some nausea and upset stomach but nothing too awful and would like to keep my weight loss going at a steady pace.

That is your decision, of course. I'd point out however that some of us who are at the lower end of the eligible BMI range may still be experiencing health issues that would be less risky with weight loss. And that we may know full well that we're not going to lose and successfully keep weight off with traditional methods, because they've already failed on multiple occasions. If you know you need to lose a set amount of weight and you know from experience that attempted dieting won't achieve that, it makes sense to look at other options.

That is what has brought me to MJ, and thus far I've had virtually no side effects either. They're not a given.

taylorswift1989 · 01/04/2025 13:30

Hello to all the bigger losers! I guess we are in for the long haul :) thanks for saying hello @akafrosty @Puddingpiper and @Illbefinejustbloodyfine I feel a bit less alone! Hoping this drug really does work for all of us.

To pp saying my post sounded a bit judgemental, I apologise - not my intention at all and I do understand that being overweight at any weight is very hard. Being very obese (my bmi is 44!) is just a different experience to being a couple of sizes bigger than is healthy and I was feeling a bit alone.

It's great that MJ is accessible to so many people and I personally think at some point we will see these and or the next generation of these drugs rolled out to many more people, including those with a healthy BMI - and I'm all for that. Especially when the side effects look set to become much less problematic in the next generation GLP meds. So I'm not judging anyone's choice to take MJ at all! I hope it will work for all of us as safely and with as few risks as possible.

Hi 😊 Yes, I think looking at a year to get to my target weight range and then I'm hoping to be able to stay on a maintenance dose of MJ for at least a year. I think it will take some time to become used to being in a smaller body! When I've lost significant amounts of weight in the past it's always been so difficult being smaller - it feels weird, people treat you differently, and I think my self-image never caught up with my actual body! So I'm expecting this to be a long journey!

No real side effects so far but the food noise that was silenced in week 1 has come back this week, which is disappointing. I'm experiencing more hunger too this week. Hoping it's not like this all the way to next month when I can go up to 5mg.

Slow and steady is the way, I think! Have you thought about splitting the 5mg dose into two? I'm wondering if that might help reduce the side effects? Although it could just draw them out, I guess.

AvantiAreShit · 01/04/2025 13:39

I can see that it's a different experience moving through life with a much larger BMI than it is for those of us who would probably just be seen as a bit chubby. It's good there's a dedicated thread for people aiming to lose 5 stone plus, and hopefully it provides useful support.
