Hello all, just checking in. On 7.5 now, lost almost 3 stone, and feel great. Over half way to target! Seemed impossible before I started, and yet here I am :)

Loveachoc · 12/03/2025 12:03

Well done everyone on their milestones.
MJ Week 25( 4 weeks on 2.5 the rest on 5mg)
SWon Mj: 99kg( lost 10kg before that)
CW 76.2k( officially overweight with my bmi)
interim GW 73 Kg
Final goal: 65kg
I definitely agree that the weight loss slows down the closer uou get to your goal weight. I'm also on this for diabetes and hopefully will be reaching my target in by July. I'm not sure what maintenance is going to look like but cannot believe I am at this weight. This thread has kept me pushing on. ❤

Reginaphalangeeeee · 12/03/2025 13:14

Can I ask about % body weight loss. Bit confused after reading more stats on average loss and expectations.

I read by week 8 most people loose about 6% of their body weight.
My start weight was 136kg and I have lost over 12 KG in 8 weeks so that's about 9-10% of my weight.

I guess what I am trying to understand is, if you loose more early, does it just slow down quicker and mean you need to increase the dose? Will you still end up loosing the same amount in total over a year as someone who looses slower at the start?

Research says people loose on average 21-22% body weight over 72 weeks on 10-15mg.

This would only equate to me reaching 100kg which is still much larger than I should be although loosing 30KG would be great, this can't be the end point for me as my BMI would still be 33!
I really really want to get into 'the overweight' category. In total to get there I have worked out I need to loose a minimum of 48KG but aiming 50 will give me some wriggle room.

Can someone tell me if this is actually possible for me?

I haven't read all the facts and studies about % body weight loss, but I can show you my results. I think it's highly individualised and any of the studies are just going to give averages and approximations.

I started BMI 33, 15st 8 or 99kg
I am now BMI 24.8, 11st 9 or 74kg

That's a loss of 25% bodyweight in 29 weeks.

First couple of weeks I wasn't on MJ yet
I was on 2.5mg for 4 weeks
5mg for 20 weeks, it was still working so I stuck with it.
7.5mg just the last 3 weeks

I'm on it for diabetes predominantly and the protocol there is that you stay on 5mg until it stops being effective, for some people that means they never move up, for others they move up on the 4 weekly schedule, but it isn't set out like it is when you buy it for weight loss alone,

InfoSecInTheCity · 12/03/2025 13:28

Oh and here's how it broke down week by week,

Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose: Thread 6
SilenceInside · 12/03/2025 13:33

I've had a look at the Surmount 4 research, and the supplemental online content that has more detail about the average weight lost, including box plots for the percentage change in body weight. I am very rusty at interpreting these things, but the outliers at either end go from not losing any weight really at all, to losing towards 60% of the starting body weight. So a really wide range of responses.

I have been on Mounjaro for 35 weeks and have lost 33% of my starting weight, which is about 46kg or 102 lbs. I still need to lose another 35kg or so to get to my target weight, another 10kg or so to get into the "overweight" category. I am still losing weight, although a bit slower now. That's not unexpected as my daily calorie needs will now be a lot less due to losing the weight. I could do more exercise, I probably should, which would help to boost my weight loss now. Finding the time and the inclination is the issue there.

QueenOfHiraeth · 12/03/2025 13:40

@Reginaphalangeeeee I'm not sure anyone can pin this down as humans are all so individual. The trial results are showing an overall average for a large number of people but it is very hard to apply that to individuals, if that makes sense. Apart from genetics there is all the variables like diet, lifestyle changes, etc. I also suspect "patients" who are motivated, paying and engaging with it all may get better results than those in trials or who have used it previously on the NHS (no evidence for that, just my own suspicions after many years of working in the NHS)
Personally I can tell you I am 43 weeks in and have lost 24% of my start weight. Currently on 12.5mg

Loveachoc · 12/03/2025 14:13

@Reginaphalangeeeee I completely understand where you are coming from but I'm not sure exactly how much research there is out there as MJ has become widely available only recently. Personally I wouldn't worry too much at this stage as you are just at the start of your journey. I actually had planned to take it only for 12 weeks to kick start my weight loss plan and have been on it for 25 weeks as I know that it's the tool that I need to help me achieve my goal. 12 kg is a fantastic weight loss over 8 weeks. Looking back on mine it was just under 4kg for that same amount of time. I would recommend reading this thread from the start when you have bits of time as your frustration is something that a lot of people have suffered. Before you know it you'll be in the under 100 kg category and won't even remember what plus 100kg felt like. I still can't believe I can see my toes because my flabby belly doesn't stop me anymore! Good luck.

Got it towards the end of summer last year and instantly regretted every previous year that I hadn't had one, it is my very favourite place to be.

I challenged myself a lot last year and ended up building a permanent gazebo and massive shed to sort the garden out. All by myself, with a lot of swearing and some really stupid stubborn moments resulting in cuts, bumps and strains. So now I have a big metal and Perspex gazebo that gives a rain free sheltered area with an outdoor sofa and hammock in it. I need to get a gas heater for out there too I think, to extend use through spring and autumn.

It's this one and it's really sturdy

I didn't just buy a hammock - that would be ridiculous!!

It will be here for the weekend.

@InfoSecInTheCity forgot to mention how impressive your DIY skills are!

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/03/2025 14:35

@Reginaphalangeeeee I started MJ end of July 2024 & so far I have lost 22% of my starting body weight. I'm no where near finished. If I get to goal I will have lost 40% of my starting weight.

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/03/2025 14:32

@InfoSecInTheCity forgot to mention how impressive your DIY skills are!

Not even a little bit but I am impulsive and stubborn.

So I decided a gazebo would be a good idea, found one online and ordered it, then I had 3 really really big really really heavy boxes in my back garden, and a hammer and battery operated screwdriver as my only real tools.

With the mindset of 'well if that idiot down the road that I regularly see trip over his own feet because he's staring at his phone can do it, then I an intelligent and determined woman can' I set to it. As mentioned there was swearing and quite a lot of 'if I just hit it harder will that bit finally stick into that bit do you think?' But it got done and survived the storms over the winter so, yay!

@RobinEllacotStrike @InfoSecInTheCity @QueenOfHiraeth @Loveachoc @SilenceInside

Thank you all. It's great to hear your journeys and putting actual stats of % is really helpful, it makes it feel like my long journey is possible too.

gimmemounjaro · 12/03/2025 17:28

@Reginaphalangeeeee
To add to your data I have lost 62.2lbs or 4st 6 in 34 weeks, 26% of my starting weight. I have a couple of stone still to go.

It's been very up and down in terms of pace - in my 'best' 4 weeks I lost 13lbs, in my 'worst' 4 weeks I lost 3.3lbs. Not really doing anything differently - I think I just got to a certain point (actually bang on 20% lost) where my body needed to sit there and regroup for a while. It did speed up again, I lost 7.5lbs in the 4 weeks after that. (Without MJ I would definitely have stopped.)

I think the trick is to try not to get too caught up in your weight - see this as a project to eat well, get healthier and feel better, those are the real goals irrespective of what the scales say. And celebrate all the wins you notice along the way. If you can find a way to enjoy the process it won't feel like such a slog and you will ride out the inevitable setbacks and disappointments much more easily.

gimmemounjaro · 12/03/2025 17:36

I heard someone say the other day - this isn't a diet, it's me creating the life I want. For me that means being strong, healthy and active, eating well, feeling well, easy around food, confident and feeling like anything is possible.

I do still monitor my weight weekly to make sure I'm on the right dose, and I have a rough idea of when I might be ready to stop losing so that I can plan financially. But really, how much I weigh is neither here nor there if those other goals are met.

radioactivekumkuat · 12/03/2025 17:57

I started in September and have lost just over 3 stone, 6 more to go! I’ve been feeling a bit apathetic about it all, though without any real reason. My partner is wonderfully supportive, I’m losing weight steadily and the worst of the side effects are long gone.

Has anyone else reached a point like this? All I want lately is to quit the jab and order myself a big takeaway! (Which is silly in itself, I’ve been eating some really delicious food lately, much better than a so-so pizza)

this is so true & well worth remembering.

Taking MJ helps me live the life I want to live. I want to eat pomegranates and 🥝🥝. I want to eat "Mediterranean diet", with not much crap/sugar. I want to go to yoga 7 times a week & keep myslef well hydrated.

MJ seems to facilitate all of this.

WeAllHaveWings · 12/03/2025 18:18

@Reginaphalangeeeee I have lost 29% of my body weight in 38 weeks. BMI 45 to 32.

Weight loss has slowed from average of 2.4lbs/week to 1.8lbs/week since Christmas. I think I have not been as focused since Christmas, it has possibly been impacted by starting HRT, the weather and not getting out as much, and a few others things going on. I don't feel like I am anywhere near levelling off like the graph you have shown.

Remember averages are just that, averages, some will be more some less and you, with the help of Mounjaro, do have control over this too. You also have something those guys in the trials didn't have - this thread and all the contributors to spur you on whenever you need it.

Few of us were saying this back in Feb, just all feeling a bit blah and bored.

What worked for me was going away for a few days, the change gave me a bit of a break and when I got back from my holiday I felt like I could refocus and feel more energised.

Not a perfect solution if going away isn't an option for you but could you do something different to the normal this weekend, visit somewhere you haven't been before meet a friend you've not seen for a while, get your hair done.......

I often feel like this. I started in October and lost 3 stone by the end of Jan and since the start of Feb have lost 8lb. I'm still losing but it's definitely slowed down and I still have about 6st more to lose. I'm managing to fit in 4 HIIT beginners work outs in a week but I feel like everything has kind of stagnated. I can get in some size 20's but still feel my size 22 jeans are quite snug.

I think its shown me that I like the dopamine hit of the scales changing or NSVs to keep me motivated and I haven't had any for a while. I was hoping to be 4st down by my birthday next week but it seems very unlikely as I'm still 6lb away from that.

I think I'm going to go up to 10mg tomorrow and see if that kicks stuff up a bit. I'm jab 24 tomorrow and still on 7.5mg. I still have a gnawing worry at the back of my brain that I'm getting high up the doses and eventually it'll wear off and I won't have reached my target.

alltablenochairs · 12/03/2025 20:18

In the 7 months I have been doing this I have lost 22kg and have gone from a BMI of 45 to a BMI of 37.2. It works out at about 17.3% loss.

However I seem to have slowed down to an absolute snail pace. I've upped the dose to 12.5 so will see if this has any effect.

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/03/2025 20:22

Just spent half an hour looking at photos from this time 2 years ago. I was probably at my largest or nearly there.

It's so odd looking at them. I liked the photos at the time, but I don't really recognise myself.

Feeling a bit discombobulated now but also fired up to keep going in this shrinking journey.

SilenceInside · 12/03/2025 20:29

I don't have any photos of me really at my largest, only a couple from a family event that I couldn't avoid going to in early summer last year. That's what made me really think about starting Mounjaro, as I had to get a size 24 dress, stretchy, and even then it was uncomfortable. I absolutely hated what I looked like, so much, in that dress. I have sold it now, and got myself some things that I do like.

One thing I have started doing is being in photos with my children, as if you look at my photo stream it's like I don't exist, as I used to avoid having my picture taken.

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/03/2025 20:37

Oh @SilenceInside 😢

I think that is sadly an all too common experience. My dear friend has very few pictures of herself- her daughter is now 15 & they have hardly any photos together.

I have lots of photos of myself & with dc - but they are quite edited in that I only keep pictures I am happy with. Lots with my kids which I love. But any "fat face" or "unflattering" pictures get deleted.

So I'm looking back at the photos I was happy enough to keep and it's like I'm seeing myself for the first time. Or with different coloured glasses. I am really seeing just how much weight I have lost now.

Same me.

Different me.

Slightly confused me.
