do you work in a chippie? Or at a chocolate maker? 😁

That audible book/podcast I linked to a while ago "The Thin Line" touched on wider societal implicataion of GLP1 meds. Food companies are already responding with "WLM" suitable foods/snacks etc.

Provided we don't all start having unforseen terrible side effects, I think we really are on the cusp of seeing GLP1's move into wider society and they will be used to treat other conditons too. We are the front runners & the tip of the GLP iceberg.

🍸🍹🍻Gin company

You lot all need to out there and start partying again (responsibly of course!) and bump my employee shares price back up! 🙏

I won't ask you to disclose if you work for Diageo @WeAllHaveWings but this article in the Guardian in January was on similar lines: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/jan/26/skinny-jabs-are-turning-slimmers-teetotal-and-drinks-companies-are-feeling-the-loss

Weight loss aside, the impact on my drinking is probably the single most important benefit of MJ for me.

‘Skinny jabs’ are turning slimmers teetotal – and drinks companies are feeling the loss

As the public rejoice at shedding weight, the likes of Wegovy seem to be controlling other bad habits – in particular drinking to excess

I've seen similar articles @VelociraptorsVelociRapping , all the big drinks companies diageo, pernod, constellation, brown-forman, LVMH etc all have such similar share price graphs. A dip then recovery after covid, then currently a downward trend (a bit like our weightloss graphs!) - the biggest impact being inflations and customers not spending on non essentials such as drink. There was no mention of how big an impact GLP-1 are having, but must be enough now or they feel the potential is there to impact it got a mention.

Same as you, I have no desire for alcohol at all since starting Mounjaro 8 months ago. I have tried twice, but it just didn't do anything for me and I stopped after one each time.

alwaysscared · 13/03/2025 16:53

Can I have some electrolyte recommendations please. I tried some from Holland and Barrett when I first started but they made me feel weird and I can’t remember what make they were! I think I need to try again as I just feel so rough all the time

I got one from Amazon called Freak Athletics Electrolyte Powder 250g. It says it’s unflavoured, but there is a slight saltiness to it, which I don’t mind. It comes with a little scoop and I shake it up in a 750ml bottle of water.

Did you get a free sample of 30 sachets off Vidrate? You order, pay for P&P then cancel the subscription a few days later after they dispatch the samples/before the send the next month (put it in your diary!).

I don't use often, only when feeling a bit bleurgh, so still have about 4-5 left even though I ordered ages ago.

I will need to order some more to have handy but not the vidrate ones as they seem expensive for what they are.

gimmemounjaro · 13/03/2025 18:14

The Freak Athletics one was £15 for 250 servings fyi, I don’t know if that’s cheap or not, it seemed ok but I only looked on amazon

RobinEllacotStrike · 13/03/2025 18:32

have big fun @MooBaggage 🌴🍹

@WeAllHaveWings the no booze movement is huge isn't it - and that was before GLP1's started to kick in. Teens aren't much interested in booze these days - not that I am encouraging drinking, but my older teen isn't even interested in having a sneaky drink. I wonder sometimes if we are related. Then again G&T, Margaritas & Negroni's aren't really entry level drinks. I'm an older Mum and I was a teen in the 80's so things are VERY different now.

Wine cooler anyone?

Its great that non-alcoholic options are so great and widely available now. Though its relly annoying that the alcohol tax is either 1) being charged or 2) being kept by the bars. (I don;t know which). Given the massive tax element on booze you would think non-alocholic options would be considerably cheaper?

Nope, not helping the share price yet, #tryharder!

🤣 enjoy yourself Moo!

I've just been playing with the 16kg kettlebell & it occurred to me that that's a bit less than what I've lost so far 🤯 it's pretty heavy!

Carolwithane · 13/03/2025 18:53

I only weigh every few weeks when I feel lighter 😂 as someone said upthread!

Anyway 18lbs down since 6th January which although not the biggest loss, I'm delighted with. Still a long way to go at 236lbs but feels doable in a totally managable way

Due to move up to 5mg next week but might start with 3.75mg, been lucky with side effects so far but feeling a bit cautious

I don't post often but read along most days and am grateful for the support, information and encouragement ❤️

My young adult (21 now) and friends seem to enjoy a drink still. They don't drink as much when out as too expensive, but "preload" before they go.

A lot of the better non-alcs are the same price as alc because the costs to produce are higher. Many are distilled the same way as alc then have to go through distillation many times to remove the alcohol. There are more complex production processes/techniques to give the flavour and sometimes higher quality raw materials and ingredients. As sales are not as high they have shorter less efficient production runs. Their shelf life, unlike alc which is almost indefinite, is shorter too which means any slow moving inventory needs to be avoided. There is also a lot of development costs invested in the products. It is a strong growth area, but there isn't masses of profit in them yet compared to alc.

Ahhhh the good old days when you'd get pissed with your mates on bottles of lemon hooch or blue WKD, then graduate to uni level drinking where you'd drop an aftershok into your £1.10 pint of Fosters and down it. Christ only knows how we survived to actual adulthood.

😆 as freshers we each spent a maximum of £3 (strictly enforced!) on a bottle of wine then iced them in hope of dulling the taste to drink before leaving for a night out 🙈every Friday and Saturday. Livers are amazing 😬

I had to lug a 19kg suitcase up a couple of flights of stairs a few days ago. It was hard. But I've lost more than that since late August....

Isn't it remarkable

My goodness

I could barely manage most stairs
Now I fly up and down them

Walked 15k steps today

I refuse to give up

I can no longer be obese it was utter hell

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/03/2025 20:27

Yes it's strange to think about losing a heavy kettlebell or suitcase in weight, not surprising it is a bit easier to exercise etc

hellohellooo · 13/03/2025 20:28

On a Thursday I used to drop my girls off to sports club

Then go get a takeaway

Followed by ice cream
Crisps
Chocolate

I want to steer clear from all this as long as I can

I found this weight loss tracker on PinchofNom which is great for visualising what you have lost! It gives me a chuckle once a week. Here is mine from today…

I've posted this on the other MJ thread too but thought I'd copy it here for info:

I had an interesting chat with a GP friend today who was having a rant about weight loss providers contacting GPs. Apparently they are getting quite a few letters now and their feeling is that the providers are trying to fob responsibility onto GPs who are already swamped. Some areas are pushing back by telling the providers it is the responsibility of their prescriber and to ask patients to supply info from the NHS app or for the GP to class it as private work and charge for any replies .
He said the letters usually say "the patient has consented for us to share this info with you" but don't recognise that the GP has not been given consent to share NHS info the other way so they then have to spend time contacting the patient, which inevitably leads to questions, discussing, advising, etc. none of which is in their scope of work and all unpaid (not to mention not covered by their state-backed indemnity).

He said they have had a few where patients have not disclosed health issues so are just responding with "We believe this to be inappropriate for this patient but do not have the patient's consent to share records. Any future prescriptions will be the responsibility of the issuing prescriber" or similar. He also mentioned one from a local beauty clinic where a patient who had been seen at the surgery recently and BMI recorded as low 20s had been seen in person and issued MJ by a nurse prescriber.
He was not happy and it does worry me where all this will end

Am roaring drunk on 3 x drinks - who'd have thought it..?!

Warm, sunny and wonderful here - am going to enjoy the next 4 days, then back to it on Tuesday 😇

When I was 19, I was working at a boarding school in one of the boarding houses for an absolute pittance. There was a staff house on site, mainly for the overseas staff but I was sofa surfing in my friends room. Because Sunday was always a day off for assistant staff, Sat evenings were party night once duties had finished. Bin and mug parties in particular. One plastic dustbin, one bottle of alcohol poured in the bin and one mug to drink the foul concoction.
I don't even drink now- to me it all tastes like hand sanitiser. I think the bin parties have put me off for life.

MamaNewtNewt · 14/03/2025 08:46

Week 2 weigh in for me and I've lost exactly 4lbs again. I'm really pleased with that as I've been calorie counting and weighing my food this week and was surprised by the info this gave me. I've been using eufy for calorie counting, but it's not great (although the scales and the app are) what is everyone else using for calorie counting?

SW: 18st 7.4lbs
CW: 17st 13.7lbs
GW: 10st 7lbs
