Checking in. I went for a walk by the sea today. 18min there and then a rest and 18mins back. I am in awe. It was amazing. I so hope this doesn't wear off/I break myself somehow as it's amazing!

Well done everyone, so in awe of you all and this thread has really kept me going these last 6 months, so thank you and for the new thread!

I was at my Granddaughter's birthday party today and I got so many comments telling me how amazing I look from people I haven't seen for a few months. It really lifted me. I also got mistaken for my Granddaughter's Mum the other day (it happens quite a lot), despite my new scales saying I am 57 (not my actual 54). It is such a boost - I think it is cause my face is so much better - lost the bloat/inflammation and have cheek bones and a chin. Still masses to lose, (I am a fairly slow loser, averaging half a stone a month) but nevertheless hearing it from people is a real delight and it motivates me so much!

I scoffed 2 boiled eggs en route to the party, so I would steer clear of the sandwiches😂

I realise (tonight), I have actually forgotten to order my next pen, so will be Tuesday before I can inject, but no harm done.

I am 47 lbs (3 stone 5) down since 2nd September and now 15 stone 6. Loving my new scales too😊

dimples76 · 09/03/2025 19:54

Thanks for the new thread.

My Mum and sisters are teasing me about my love for the new scales!

NSV I can bend over and pick stuff off the floor much more easily now my tummy is a little smaller.

QueenOfHiraeth · 09/03/2025 20:49

Thanks for the new thread @VelociraptorsVelociRapping
I'm having a bit of a wobble today as I've felt really hungry and sorry for myself. Although MJ is making it easier to eat sensibly, Heaven knows I couldn't have dieted this well or for this long, I'm starting to find it a bit of a grind.
I have an ongoing problem with my foot which restricts my walking and activity so, especially now I've lost some weight, my daily calories are quite low and my weight loss has slowed so I am starting to feel that I am restricting myself and feel a bit resentful that others seem to have appetite suppression or be eating more and losing more easily.
I think I need to go back to basics and try to centre myself a bit.

Any advice, thoughts or stern telling off appreciated Smile

Aww - we're all definitely allowed wobbly days. Maybe a reset would be good - drink lots of water, eat protein - and can you do some hand weights stuff if you can't walk much (I'm hand weights obsessed at the moment 😀). Are you due to increase your MJ doseage soon?

I hope tomorrow feels better - keep going - doesn't matter if it's slow, you'll get there.

gimmemounjaro · 09/03/2025 21:17

@QueenOfHiraeth my two penneth..
Firstly, do you need to / could you go up a dose if you're not getting much suppression? Just a thought.

Anyway..

  • by feeding yourself well, you are doing amazing things for your body, your health and your future, whether weight is coming off or not. This is an end in itself.
  • remember there will be times when your body is desperately trying to hold onto fat stores, it's a completely normal and natural biological response to weight loss. It's not a failure or a reflection on you. Expect it and accept it.
  • hunger is an inevitable part of the process, it's uncomfortable but not an emergency, nothing to worry about, you can live with it now and then
  • follow some simple principles: eat plenty of protein and fibre, drink plenty of water, go easy on the UPF and refined carbs
  • do your best to get good sleep
  • do some strength training with dumbbells, sitting down if necessary
  • try to focus on the here and now, find the joy in the process of living well, learning what your body needs and how to provide it
  • notice your progress, find the little things to celebrate. What has changed for the better already? You are doing great!
  • ultimately this process is a bit of a slog even with MJ, and some days / weeks are not a lot of fun. But it will be worth it. The next six months are going to pass whether you take care of yourself or not, so who and where do you want to be in 6 months' time?
  • most importantly, go easy on yourself and treat yourself kindly 💙
SqueakyDinosaur · 09/03/2025 21:30

Several friends have suddenly noticed that I've lost weight. I have not said I'm using WLI (except to one small group of friends who don't interact with the rest and who have all tried it - 2 were fine, 1 had hideous side effects). But I have said truthfully in response to "HOW" questions that yes, it's been slow and boring, yes, I've felt like giving up at a lot of points, etc etc. I don't know why I'm quite so reluctant to tell others. I think basically there is still a part of me that thinks it's cheating. But it works and I am keeping on keeping on.

I'm going to have to stop fairly soon because of a medical procedure - 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after is what they say. I do want to find out from them why they say this, but I expect it's linked to all hospitals' absolute obsession with whether you've "moved your bowels" before they will discharge you.

BeaTwix · 09/03/2025 21:50

@SqueakyDinosaur it’s because the drugs delay your gastric emptying and increase your risk of aspiration under GA altho’ the national guidance about what to actually do with the drugs around the time of GA/sedation is a bit woolly.

QueenOfHiraeth · 09/03/2025 22:29

@MooBaggage @gimmemounjaro Thank you for the kind words, you are both right and I will keep going and, hopefully, feel a bit brighter about it soon

In answer to a couple of points:
-- I've only fairly recently gone up to 12.5mg (on second pen and don't want to go to 15mg yet as that feels like there'll be nowhere else to go) so not ready for an increase yet
-- I have never had much, if any, appetite suppression I am always able to eat and frequently peckish although I am able to resist cravings on MJ that I would not resist without it. It has happened once or twice, to my great excitement, but has never lasted and I am very jealous of people who have it.
-- I am already doing some arm exercises with weights and seated exercise but, because they are not particularly strenuous my calorie allowance is 1200-1400 a day depending on which calculator you use which I find quite difficult to stick to.

The next six months are going to pass whether you take care of yourself or not, so who and where do you want to be in 6 months' time? This is a brilliant point, thank you

alltablenochairs · 09/03/2025 22:52

@QueenOfHiraeth if your foot is making your life unnecessarily difficult, could you do something like swimming? If any walking at all is difficult then a lot of pools (especially the newer ones) have different access options depending on your level of mobility. I've also seen various YouTube workouts that claim to be effective but without needing to stand up. Haven't tried these myself yet.

I've booked DS and myself onto a 3 day accessible adventure holiday. He's desperate to do stuff like kayaking but because he has additional needs he'll need someone to be with him. DH flatly denies it but is more than a bit scared of water (I'm not entirely sure he can actually swim.....) and is definitely scared of heights so looks like I've drawn the short straw and will be going with DS. I'm also seriously tempted by a beach wheelchair I've seen that means I can actually get down on the sand/in the water with the kids. I'm under the minimum weight limit now for one. Neither of these I would have been able to do not that long ago because I was too big/heavy. I've still got a long way to go (BMI of 37.2) but doors are beginning to open.

Arglefraster · 09/03/2025 22:57

@QueenOfHiraeth sorry you're having a low day, I feel very similar today although it's everything including MJ/weight loss slog rather than just the later 🤣
I've only been taking MJ since November but gosh it feels like forever at the moment but also like I'm getting nowhere...

W.r.t. to exercise could you either look at what can you do (swim, row, cycle?) with your foot restrictions.

OR remind yourself that the exercise to be able to eat more calories thing doesn't really work (see "exercise paradox" Pontzer w.r.t. Hadza etc )

Also Stacey Sims says you can recomp by eating v high protein even without exercise (I haven't read around this)

QueenOfHiraeth · 09/03/2025 23:03

@alltablenochairs Thanks, I probably could swim but I hate it! I tried aqua-aerobics but the only classes locally are in the middle of the day so felt like they took the whole day up by the time I added on getting there and back, showering, hair, etc
Give the beach wheelchairs a go! They are bringing them in on the beach near us and I've seen really good reports from other areas that already have them

@Arglefraster Sorry you are feeling it too. We can have our own little pity party!

I do try to do bits of exercise but bloody hate it. I think I'll go and Google Stacey Sims instead Grin

MooBaggage · 10/03/2025 03:27

So my insomnia is striking again... but gave me chance to do a random weigh and my BMI is FINALLY under 40!!

SW 20 st 3lbs
CW 18 st 9lbs
(BMI of 39.7!!)

Today is the start of week 9, so I'll be injecting later today (at a sensible hour!) and am going to try and get the magical 5th dose out of the pen for the first time... have got needles - just need to not be squeamish 🙄😀

I'm losing about 2lbs a week now and am 1lb ahead of where I hoped I would be at this stage, so am v happy 😊😊😊

gimmemounjaro · 10/03/2025 04:42

Well done @MooBaggage 🥳💪

@QueenOfHiraeth maybe some HIIT would be good for you if you're not a fan of exercise? Hard work but at least it's over quickly 😅

I just googled "seated hiit" and lots of options popped up, 15 mins a day would make a difference.

One other thought - have you ever tried intermittent fasting? My BMR is low like yours, I aim for 1000kcal per day and I quite like eating twice instead of three times. 3x300ish feels like restriction to me, never quite enough, whereas 2x500ish feels much better. I have never really been into breakfast though, so it suits me. It's not for everyone but might be an interesting experiment for you, to pass the time if nothing else and make this tough patch a bit more doable.

sageGreen81 · 10/03/2025 04:58

Hello! I'm new!! Started Mounjaro yesterday. I'm 100kgs at the moment. When I stepped on the scale last night but will weigh myself this morning with no clothes on. I was dressed last night. Maybe make it 97kgs. I think I need a new scale!

I'm up as been feeling sick!!!

I'm just wondering what supplements people are taking?

Ditsy79 · 10/03/2025 06:40

Hi! I started Mounjaro 7 weeks ago. I had bad side effects at first, so stayed on the 2.5mg for the 2nd month. I move up to 5mg next week.
Starting weight 111.1kg
Current weight 105.1kg
Apart from constipation, the side-effects have been fine the last few weeks.
Supplement wise, I take Psyllium husk and a multivitamin.
Going on a plane in 5 weeks' time, and hoping not to have a fight with the seat belt again 😅

Timetofindme · 10/03/2025 06:57

@SqueakyDinosaur I'm due an operation and bizarrely my surgeon has said I'm OK to keep taking the MJ but I don't believe his answer. Fully expecting to be told differently at pre op. I assumed that I'd have to stop cos of the slower digestion and I know that post op I often don't 'go' for a few days which is probably a combo of GA/ codeine and eating/ moving less. Just hope it doesn't derail my progress too much but the op has to be done so I'll just have to take it as it comes I guess!

Orangesandlemons77 · 10/03/2025 07:46

Placemarking, thanks for the new thread! All ready enjoying reading everyone's progress and updates.

I'm going to aqua aerobics today, it is much easier getting in and out of the swimming costume these days which is helpful.

Could you check directly with the anaesthetist rather than the surgeon, so you know in advance what to expect? I saw someone mention recently that their anaesthetist used a breathing tube to lower the risk of aspiration, so maybe that’s how they manage it now.

Iwanttoputmytreeup · 10/03/2025 09:02

S/W = 18st 7lb
C/W = 14 stone!
G/W = 1/2 a stone at a time and will see

So today I have hit 14 stone exactly which means I have lost 4.5 stone since the end of September...and I have gone from obese 3 into obese 1 with a BMI drop from 45.9 to 34.9. Happy with that for a Monday morning!
