Don't feel embarrassed @Reginaphalangeeeee. I would go and get it checked out to put your mind at rest.

Only a couple of days into the holidays here and I am already wiped out. My DS11 (who has LD, Autism and ADHD) currently enjoys calling me - fat pig, fat loser and fat fucker x50 a day. I try not to visibly react as it fuels him. He just asked me to help him with something (in the same breath calling me fat pig) I told him that unfortunately as a fat pig with trotters not hands I could not help. The silver lining for me at the moment is that in the past my response to this kind of abuse would be to get some nice food but that is no longer my go to. It's only been three months since I started mounjaro but I am really hoping that I can develop some better habits and coping mechanisms

taylorswift1989 · 16/04/2025 08:07

I think losing a lot of weight is tough on the body. Remember that fat cells are metabolically and hormonally active, so as you're losing weight you're triggering so many different processes in your body. It's kind of weird when you think about it!

If you're worried then do of course get it checked out, regardless of what anyone else says. But I think it sounds fairly normal.

MooBaggage · 16/04/2025 08:52

Reginaphalangeeeee · 15/04/2025 22:07

Feeling a bit worried tonight.

I always check myself (boobs) in the shower especially mid-cycle. I noticed I have lost more weight from my boobs and upper chest area recently and doing up my bra band is much looser. Boobs feel less full too but normal. While checking myself I did notice the bottom of my sternum (xiphoid process) seems a hard lump. Now I am not sure if I can noticed now because I’ve lost weight especially around there and maybe it was like that before. When I slouch (which I normally am) you can’t feel it but if I stand really up right I can feel it. It doesn’t hurt or anything and feeling a bit silly because maybe it’s just a boney but I am not used too.

Can anyone relate to this?
Maybe being obsessed and wearing a tight bra propped up on it makes it grow 🤷‍♀️ and maybe all
nirmal body changes that happened over time like my hump 🙄. I have also noticed the hard fatty lump (my hump) back of neck has shrunk in size lately and feels more boney there which is a good thing.

Will get husband to check the bellow boob sternum bump tomorrow and if worried still will see GP but gosh I would be so embarrassed if it’s just ‘something you normally have when not feeling through lots of fat’.

Any wisdom welcome!

Edited

So I've had a feel at the bottom of my sternum and can feel a lumpy bit too - I think it's bone?!

Definitely get it checked if you're worried though. I think we'll probably discover all sorts of bones and bumps that were hiding under the fat...! 😯😃

I know what you mean re: lymph glands and when you're poorly - mine always swell in my neck and armpits when I'm not well. I've also been trying to do regular little lymph drainage massages - for no other reason than Instagram told me to and am hoping it will mean a less crinkly neck... 🙄😬

Blimey that sounds really tough - I'm so sorry 😔

Well done on managing to cope though without food - proof that you will get there and are doing it even under very difficult circumstances - and roll on back to school time....!

@InfoSecInTheCity I have tried soups, hot liquids have always tended to make me feel sick. The problem is is that I don’t really eat meat, and I don’t really eat dairy (makes me feel sick) so I’m stuck on what to eat protein wise. I’ve had bits of meat here and there to try and up my protein but it just makes me feel gross
Im interested in the BMR @QueenOfHiraeth should I be eating more to get over the 1500?

I'm a veggie and these are my main sources of protein:

Protein yoghurt (I appreciate you're not a dairy fan)
Chia seeds
Protein shakes with coconut water
Tofu
Quorn
Collagen powder
Eggs

I hope this list helps!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/04/2025 10:03

Thank you @dimples76
So sorry you are dealing with this. I would not cope with this abuse, you are so strong. I cry at everything. Do you have some support to help you with your son’s needs & behavioural problems? I hope you can work with him to help him understand it’s not ok & make some positive changes.

You make a really good point @taylorswift1989

@MooBaggageglad I am not alone in the lymphatic drainage trial.

As for this bump on the end of my sternum. My husband felt it and agrees it wasn’t there before. He thinks it’s swelling over the bone. I actually asked AI software which says this is common after weight loss, who knew !! It said:

A painless swelling or lump over the xiphoid process (the small cartilaginous extension at the lower end of the sternum) in a woman following intentional weight loss is actually a fairly common, benign finding. Here’s a breakdown of what could be happening:

1.
Prominent Xiphoid Process (Normal Variant)

After significant weight loss, especially if rapid or substantial, fatty tissue around the chest and abdomen decreases, making previously subtle anatomical structures like the xiphoid process more visibly and palpably prominent.
It can feel like a small, hard bump or nodule.
Painless, non-tender, and not growing — typically nothing to worry about.

2.
Xiphoid Syndrome (Less Common)

This is a benign condition where the xiphoid process becomes irritated or inflamed, sometimes due to mechanical stress, weight loss, or trauma.

Anyone have it?

Ahem - I also have quite a big lump/bump at the top of my bum, which I've had for years and years, but it has been less noticeable under all the fat, but is now back! I have no idea what it is - am thinking I'm maybe less evolved than other humans and still have a tail stump 😬

Hi all so countdown is officially on with everything arriving tomorrow, was wondering what time of day everyone injects? I am prone to insomnia although not sure if that changes anything! I am so ready to get going, I’m wishing this weekend away…
Mortifyingly my 7 year old referred to me as fat the other day and the worst part was he didn’t even realise how hurtful it was, it was just a ‘say what you see’ moment. I really hope this journey will end with me feeling proud to be his mum instead of constantly feeling embarrassed :(

I tend to inject in the afternoon/evening - no reason other than the day it arrived, it was about 5pm! I've moved the time from anywhere between 2pm - 10pm - doesn't seem to make much difference as the suppression (for me) tends to kick in the following afternoon and last for about 3 days, before tailing off a bit.

I used to teach the piano to lots of young children many years ago, and unfortunately at that time had bad face acne, even as an adult (another joy of having PCOS....) and so many of the children would comment on the spots/bumps on my face 😳 - they just say what they see and anything slightly more unusual intrigues them - they don't tend to put a value on it - we do that!

I remember my ds1, when he was about 10/11, looking at me saying he never wanted to be fat "because fat's not cool" - again, just a statement of fact from his perspective, but hurt at the time - although I was never going to be cool in his eyes 😬

SilenceInside · 16/04/2025 11:28

@AdotHam I inject on a Friday morning, after the school run and before I start work, so I know I have some time to myself and won't be interrupted. I prefer Friday as I tend to get the highest suppression over the weekend, which is usually where my over eating was worst. It also means that any side effects are over the weekend too, although I haven't had any for months now.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/04/2025 11:41

@AdotHamI have always told my children fat is a mean word but remember still recoiling when they described me as ‘having a big big tummy’. They meant no harm and nothing wrong with the word big except it hurt me.

By age 8-9 I suggested I prefer being described as curvy and that ladies with bigger body parts may also prefer it but made clear we shouldn’t comment on people’s bodies or say anything mean about others or our own bodies because it is fine they are all different. My nephew asked why I had ‘such a big tummy and is there another baby in there or do I just eat too much food’. I felt my DC’s embarrassment for me & although I brushed it off and replied oh I just like yummy food they must have seen the hurt in my eyes and cuddled me.
Children will be children and say what they see, but hope as they get older they all learn to be kind for the sake of all those who look different.

My DC are older now and since my weight loss they have not said a thing but I know they are looking at me and seeing my body change. When they hug me I can feel them checking how far their arms go around me and checking how I feel. I refuse to mention trying to loose weight, injections or counting calories etc and still eat all my meals with them. I don’t want them to see my burden or worry about weight as I began to at their age. I was told by a school nurse I must be eating too much as I weighed much more than I should for my age.

Arglefraster · 16/04/2025 11:50

@dimples76I would be in a puddle on the floor with those comments. I think you're brilliant 💐💐💐

@MooBaggageever damaged your coccyx? They can get banged quite out of place /heal funny.

@AdotHamI jag in the morning (I avoided evening because of sleep problems) recently did the evening due to being away & it didn't seem to make any difference.

Thursday evening, although I forgot last week so did it Friday morning. Never had any side effects except feeling the cold, so doesn’t really make a difference what time or day for me.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/04/2025 12:12

I inject Sunday night. It allows a more relaxed weekend when I am more likely wanting to join in with different foods Saturday. Sunday I weigh in the morning and practice my will power knowing the injection the same day will lead to a terrible Monday if I go over board. I do it before bed and always find I have better sleep Sunday and Monday. Suppression high through the start of the week and eating more routine/predicatable which I think helps. The occasional treat at weekends I read helps leptin levels and helps prevent ‘starvation mode stalls’ right before I cycle into lower intake Monday to Thursday.

That's interesting re: sleep because I find I always have the worst sleep in the few nights after injecting! I was up last night having a brew at 3am 🙄 I inject on Monday, have terrible sleepless nights on Monday/Tues/Weds and then finally settle down and sleep like the dead over the weekend!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/04/2025 13:11

Wow that is interesting @MooBaggage
when I very first started (first 2-3 weeks) I struggled to sleep but think maybe anxious, but I did feel so tired on it. Now, best sleep is a Monday night.
i think MJ puts me into a sort of hibernation mode though where I am cold, don’t want to eat or do anything but sleep first few days.

I do feel incredibly tired during the day on a Tuesday and Wednesday - I could stay in bed forever and have to make myself get up and get working, but I get headaches at night that wake me up after a few hours (I take 2 x paracetamol when I go to bed, but they don't see me through) and that's that - I have to get up, make a drink, take painkillers and try to get back to sleep in an hour or so. Don't think it can be dehydration as I'm drinking a minimum of 2 x litres of water, plus coffees (which I stop drinking at 2pm).

But it's not the worst thing in the world - just annoying!

RainbowConnection1 · 16/04/2025 14:09

I inject just before bed on a Friday. Decided to do it then when my first pen arrived so that if there were any issues I had the weekend to deal with them. Thankfully I’ve had very few side effects but find that time works well for me.

Hi 👋
Sorry for the lack of input this week. I have been reading and celebrating all your successes. I really do appreciate everything you share on here, I learn something new every day. I don't comment much as I don't feel qualified yet at 4 weeks in.
I've just had a really rough week (wk4). I didn't want to put a downer on the thread by moaning on here. I have either felt completely numb, or crying for no reason. It's not like me at all, and I've worried dh. He's been trying so hard to help, but I can't rally. To add insult to injury, I've only lost a pound this week despite not going over calories and eating well. I see from back reading that others have suffered similar SEs. I hope it is short lived for anyone else feeling the same.

Trying to stay positive but at the moment, it's not worth 1lb per week. I've just managed to get a 5th dose from my first pen and injected 0.7, so just below 3mg (I think). Next 5mg pen in the fridge, planning to do 3.75 next week. Sorry for the moan.

Sounds tough going - I'm sorry it's been so rubbish 😞

How much have you lost in total so far? Some people seem to lose loads right from the outset, but others take time to get going - one thing I like about this thread is that there are some people (can't remember who now!) who say they barely lost anything in the first month or two, but then have seen steady losses and are doing really well.

I know the evidence tells us that a steady/good loss with MJ is 1 - 2lbs a week, but I know what you mean re: adding insult to injury if you've also been feeling rubbish. Are you sure you want to up your dose from the 2.5mg? How has your eating been and food noise/suppression?

Sorry no answers - I wonder if you should talk to your prescribing pharmacy re: the side effect of low mood - see what they advise?

akaFrosty · 16/04/2025 15:08

@MooBaggage thank you for your kindness.
Losses so far:-
SW 15st 8.5
CW 14st 13

Wk1 5.5lbs
Wk2 1lb
Wk3 2lb
Wk4 1lb
It is coming off, and I'm pleased to have lost 9lbs. I think I feel like I'm being put through a wringer so I deserve higher losses. I know that doesn't make sense really. I couldn't even find joy in the 14 on the scale this morning.

I eat around 1200-1400 (depends on suppression level) cals per day. Very low carb and around 100g protein per day. Lots of veg, nuts, no alcohol. I'm walking lots, taking supplements, and having lots of early nights.
Suppression has been OK. I can only eat small portions, but for the first time since starting MJ, I have been really craving carbs and sweet things. Craving crap whilst my mood is so low is a dangerous combo. I thought this may be a signal that I need to increase my dose? Happy to be advised otherwise.

Thanks all of you for the encouragement and the advice, much appreciated. It's really hard not getting bogged down in feeling really crummy about yourself. This is a really supportive thread, I'm really thrilled to have found it!

I’ve been lurking for ages reading everyone’s stories and have just done jab, looking forward to see the numbers reduce BMI of 47 and only 5’1 so have to get rid of half of me! Hopefully side effects will be manageable as I’m in for the long haul.
