Well done on all the achievements @MooBaggage!

@Reginaphalangeeeee I take the dose regardless of if I’m ill and haven’t noticed it making anything worse. If anything I think it’s actually helped with my hayfever a little so far this year because it targets inflammation so my sinuses haven’t been as swollen and stuffy.

MooBaggage · 14/04/2025 10:56

Reginaphalangeeeee · 14/04/2025 10:13

@MooBaggage you are doing so well!!!
I started at 21st one 5lbs just under 300lbs.

Weigh in yesterday 18stone 7lbs which was a 2.5 lbs loss this week but in total since January 40lbs!!!

what dose are you tweaking to?
The BMI points are great mini achievements but do seem to take more weight to shift than I expect. I was delighted to breech under BMI 40 last week.

I'm going to go for 5.5mg I think - 44 clicks of the 7.5mg pen! Was wondering about 5.25mg, but will try 5.5mg to see if that helps shut down the noise without bringing on the insane nausea!

I think re: the feeling poorly, I'd try and stick to the same jab day - but that's mainly because if I start switching days as well as doses, I'll tie myself in knots....

Hope you start to feel better soon - colds/hayfever stuff at this time of year are very annoying..!

AnneinEdinburgh · 14/04/2025 13:25

@Reginaphalangeeeee how about aquafit? I have just come home from doing it for the first time in ages, and feel like I have had a really good workout without putting pressure on my joints.

MabelSpan · 14/04/2025 14:09

@MooBaggage congrats on your 1lb loss! They all add up!

@InfoSecInTheCity How lovely to get a compliment from a stranger! Thankfully no one has asked me outright how I have lost weight yet, I think if they did I would just say eating 30 plants a week and counting my cals, which is true, I dont think I would mention MJ..or maybe to a stranger I would, but not someone I know, I really dont know tbh. Its tricky isnt it.

@Reginaphalangeeeee well done on your 2.5lb loss, 40lb since Jan is huge!
I havent been poorly on mj other than mj side effects now and then, so I think I would try and stick to my normal schedule or at most delay by one day if I was feeling really rotten. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi everyone!
Nervous starter here with about 5 stone to lose. I am so inspired by all of you and am really hoping that this works for me after years of yo yo diets and a terrible relationship with food. It all felt pretty hopeless but this thread has given me some much need positivity.
Have just been approved and the 2.5 arrives on Friday so thinking to start Monday since lots of family around this weekend and don't want to have to explain anything to them if I'm feeling strange.

Hi @AdotHam and welcome to the thread! 😊

I jab on Mondays and it works well for me - I have good suppression during the week and can enjoy my food more at the weekends! But honestly, I just started the day I received the medicine because I was too impatient to wait... 😃

There are brilliant people on this thread that will give advice and share their stories - I take hope and inspiration from them every day, so don't be afraid to ask anything that will help with it all!

alwaysscared · 14/04/2025 16:41

Is there anyone on here who has done the insulin syringe method with more than one dose of the pen?
My husband is worried that doing it for all 4 doses (so I get 6.25mg from my 5mg pen) might break the seal on the pen? Does this make sense? Anyone have any experience?

AdotHam · 14/04/2025 16:54

Thank you so much, am looking forward to following along with you all, since only my DH knows that I am doing this and it feels a bit isolating to be embarking on this essentially in secret:)

SilenceInside · 14/04/2025 16:57

@alwaysscared It would be piercing the seal no more times than attaching 4 pen needles, as they also pierce the seal. I can't see how it would be different?

alwaysscared · 14/04/2025 17:05

@SilenceInside yes I know it would, that’s what I said to him. He’s just super worried and doesn’t want to get it wrong

hellohellooo · 14/04/2025 17:12

Ah so a 2lb gain

Have not injected for a few weeks

Back on it this week and have ordered a 5ml pen

Hope to get back on track have two stone to lose

(Already managed 4.5 stone from Oct to March)

April not been great but I did get 15k steps per day so not all bad

Could only previously do 3k steps a day
Could barely bend down to tie my shoelaces 😥😥💔

I jab Thursday because I picked it up on a Thursday and wanted to just crack on and get it done rather than think about it too much. Have been lucky enough to never have any symptoms besides the ones we want and feeling cold a bit more.

i would say I’ve seen some prior stories from people who decided to have ‘one last big hurrah’ and ate their fill of KfC/ chinese takeaway or a massive curry then did the jab. Please keep in mind that one of its affects is to slow your digestion, you do not want a vat of oil very slowly brewing in your belly, it will likely end badly, so eat clean for a couple of days before your first dose.

The diets that seem to do best from a symptoms perspective are those high in protein, fibre, good fats and low in refined carbs, grease and stodge.

SilenceInside · 14/04/2025 17:19

@alwaysscared has he thought about what happens if you have a duff pen needle and need to change the needle, in normal usage? That would pierce the seal again each time you change the needle. The seals will have been tested to well beyond what is considered reasonable usage. If you have to change needles each time you use it, you could pierce the seal 8 times for example. The instructions tell you to change needles if the priming doesn't work, so it has been anticipated that the seal can handle more piercings than 4.

I am the sort of person to logic my way through any anxieties, but I don't know if that would help your DH, if he accepts that it's the same number of piercings, but is still concerned about it nonetheless.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 14/04/2025 17:26

@alwaysscared very gently and with the greatest of respect to him, it's not his risk assessment to make. It's yours, and you sound happy with it.

OP posts:
alwaysscared · 14/04/2025 17:34

@SilenceInside yes, he gets it now. I think it’s just that he says it’s not specifically designed for using it that way, so he’s just cautious. He doesn’t want to get it wrong.
And yes @VelociraptorsVelociRapping you are right. It’s up to me and I’m confident about it.

MabelSpan · 14/04/2025 19:39

@AdotHam welcome, I hope mj works well for you! Starting on Monday sounds like a good plan to me.

Weigh and jab day for me. 2nd week at 4.75mg, no side effects (other than the ongoing complete lack of emotions😑).

SW - 20st 3lbs Aug 24
CW - 15st 11.6lbs 14th Apr 24

I am now over half way to my goal weight, 61.4lbs down 60.6lbs to go!
Almost sounds doable!😉

Incredible! About 15lbs more for me before I get to halfway...

The emotions thing is a weird one - I've got emotions, but they're definitely calmer/flatter - which at the moment I'm grateful for, as life is a bit crazy. I'm enjoying the calm but do see how strange it is...! I've been on antidepressants for a few years and have been wondering whether I could come off them, but will give it a bit longer before taking the plunge..!

Thanks! You will get there!😊

My emotions are pretty much zero, no ups or downs, no excitement at reaching new goals, no disappointment if I dont, its really strange. I have kind of got used to it now and just accept that if I want to keep using MJ, which I do, then having no joy and no mood drops or anger in my life is going to be the way it is.
I do miss being happy though!

I have wondered if anti-depressants might help, but because this is a side effect of MJ and it reducing the rewards part of the brain, reducing dopamine (or something like that, I cant remember) then I am not sure they would, as I am not depressed at all, just devoid of all emotion😄. Its a tricky one🤔

Thanks @AnneinEdinburgh, I am doing a sort of swimming/water running & in the gym doing strength work/weights. The xtrainer is ok but running not yet. I’ll try again when a bit lighter.

Great you found exercise you love. The aqua classes at my gym are all in the day time and from what I have seen, is not aimed at my age demographic but sure I would be welcomed. Shame have to work!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 14/04/2025 21:01

Welcome @AdotHam you are in good company here!! I inject Sunday night, makes me feel I am set for the week. Strongest suppression is then Monday night to Wednesday night. It allows me at a weekend to enjoy an occasional treat like a meal out which I would not be able to in the week. Agree… don’t have a last blow out day before you inject. I made that mistake regretfully.

Thanks @MooBaggage, @MabelSpanand @InfoSecInTheCity.

i did inject last night even though felt poorly and was doubting if I should have. So so tired today I have been on the sofa most of the day. Have zero appetite and it’s been really hard to eat. Hoping this virus moves on quickly!
To be fair my husband was concerned taking MJ would make me ill all the time. I think his concern was I would feel
sick all the time which I haven’t but it did make me think 🤔 is MJ a suppressant of immune system?

Interesting chat about emotions too.
I definitely feel lower energy and lower motivation. I definitely get less excited by things. However, think I am getting more of a dopamine hit from my phone than I used too. Many of you know I lost my dad quite recently and grief has been hard on me. I have wondered where is the line between grief and depression. I am not crying all the time now but do feel sad. With support from people here, I continued my MJ journey despite my father’s death. I am pleased I did as I am more than 10Kg lighter than I was when he died. I know he would be proud of me and want me to be healthy & would have commented every time I saw him about how slim I had got. He was my biggest supporter and I still feel lost without him.

And so as for the emotions, it’s making me wonder is MJ actually dulling my sadness? I am scared I would feel worse off it (sad I mean) rather than just apathetic. 😐

Run 1 of week 4 completed, 5 min warm up walk, 3 min jog, 90sec walk, 5 min jog, 2.5 min walk and repeat. I did it. I was feeling it by the end of the 5 min jogs but I did it!

alwaysscared · 15/04/2025 09:59

Right, what is going on because the maths isn’t mathing.
Yesterday I ate:
Apple x 2 - 140 cal
Kiwi x 1 - 60 cal
Alpro protein no sugar yog 200g - 100 cal
Small amount of berries and grapes - 35 cal
Small amount of chopped hazelnut - 13 cal
Cinnamon - 0 cal
1 crushed up weetabix - 70 cal
2 slices wholemeal toast - 202 cal
1 boiled egg - 70 cal
Half an avocado - 160 cal
Salt and pepper - 0 cal
500g mixed berries and grapes - 340 cal
2 x bowl of carrots and cucumber - 90 cal
That equals 1280 and is an average day of eating for me, I have rounded most of the calories up to the nearest 10. Some days I may have 100 more, some days I may have 100 less (ish)
I have tried adding more protein, but everything I have tried makes me feel ill. I have tried having less carbs which just makes me more hungry and doesn’t change the scales.
I have not lost any weight now for 5 weeks. I am hungry a lot but am used to feeling hungry now. I have upped my dose to 6.25mg but I don’t think this should make a difference as I am already eating more than 500 below my TDEE (1940)
It doesn’t make any sense. I haven’t been exercising as I’ve been feeling really rough. But the numbers don’t lie, I am in a calorie deficit every day and nothing is moving.
I just don’t understand.
Edit to add I drink 6 litres sparkling water a day

Darlinghag · 15/04/2025 10:05

Well done @InfoSecInTheCity !

Dulling of emotions, I experienced this too.

It was worse at the start and I certainly never get lows, just flatness?

I do think its ebbed away quite a lot over the months though and I do find more excitement in things than I had.

Also re: illness. I’m one of the ones with minimal side effects (but would argue lower suppression etc as well) so don’t know if it correllates, but illness has been generally easier for me. Colds have been more minor and pass quicker, with the exception of something more severe I had in December with a chest infection.

Thanks @Darlinghag. Glad emotion wise things have improved for you.

Illness:
I actually feel much better today which is quiet the surprise from how tired, achey and I’ll I felt yesterday. I had a good sleep last night but my illness would not normally have improved so quickly so maybe the MJ has actually helped 🤷‍♀️

@InfoSecInTheCity well done!!!

@alwaysscaredI really think you need a chat with your doctor for some professional advice. This group can’t give medical advice in the same way they can. It seems you are not eating much at all, the medication is not working the way you hoped and it may be another reason. Please see your GP. Xx

alwaysscared · 15/04/2025 10:24

@Reginaphalangeeeee I have seen my GP a couple of times and talked to her about it. She doesn’t understand why I have stalled either. It was working but now it’s not. Even if I wasn’t on MJ, the calorie deficit should be enough to ensure I at least lose a little weight every week.
