Looking for some advice from a bigger girl who has skin folds and been on mJ a while.

i have developed a painful spot/pimple… gosh I am scared to write it or think it.. could it be a boil!!!
It’s on my lower tummy (not near injection site) and is red/purple like spot that is swollen and sore but not pussy. Skin around bit red too. It grew and is swollen/painful near my bikini skin folds. Yuck, hate the saying FUPA.
I wear my pants high to disguise skin folds and oh no.. more horrid words/descriptions…. I have a pendulous/ apron tummy. I think with weight loss the area has got, yes smaller but also much softer/squidgy with worse deeper folds?

has anyone else developed a infected like spot or boil? Is this a MJ thing or a weight loss/squidgy skin impact.
i am washing regularly and applying warm compress and antiseptic but It is sore. Really don’t want to go to the doctor and have to ‘lift my tummy’ for them to see it 😭😭😭😭😭
Any advice?

NewbieMJ · 21/03/2025 23:34

@QueenOfHiraeth absolutely! I saw the headline about the 400 calories a day woman, and everyone was piling on and saying how dangerous MJ was...eh? Eating 400 calories a day might be the issue you'd think.

Yeah, good luck with eating noodles for life and expect the repercussions of severe malnutrition to catch up with you. Not sure what the answer is, even if there is one, I suppose calling it out best we can is as good as we are going to get it, but it's not great for folk coming on these forums for genuine advice.

I was admittedly a bit envious in the beginning that I have never been a super responder to MJ and don't get the suppression that everyone refers to (I am now on 8.5mg). It is, however, suiting me fine and I feel it is helping me to get to grips with how life will be post MJ or reduced MJ in the longer term. I have to adapt my lifestyle for sustainable loss, and that is the overall ethos of this thread, which has helped me tremendously.

InfoSecInTheCity · 22/03/2025 06:00

Ahhhh @Reginaphalangeeeeeisn’t life just full of delightful little moments and experiences that try our dignity and ability to remain unembarrassed. I’ve had such skin complaints, thankfully not recently but they’ve happened. I also really enjoyed the post pregnancy ‘there’s weird lumpy bleeding sore things hanging from my butt’ stage of life.

Keep it really clean and really dry it carefully, some kind of topical antifungal cream like canisthan for athletes foot can be helpful. If it looks like it might be a ‘popping’ kind of lump then Magnesium Sulphate ointment which you can get at Boots in the creams and ointments bit of the pharmacy can help to move that timeline forward. If it’s likely to get sweaty then use a large plaster to cover it over to keep it dry. As with all of these things, try to avoid scratching picking, squeezing because you’ll just inflame it and make it angry.

PeskyPotato · 22/03/2025 07:29

Hi all, here to join you please! I’m just about to take injection number two. Lost 5lbs in my first week, starting weight 21st 3lb. No side effects last week, found it absolutely life changing!

Carolwithane · 22/03/2025 08:17

Just checking in! 🙋‍♀️

Lost another 1lb this week, making a total of 19 since Jan 14th. Not a super responder but happy with slow and steady AND relatively painless weight loss

Tbh I'm happy any loss this week, was my birthday last Saturday and I had a chippy tea followed by cake 😋 Difference is rather than starting a 3 week binge I was straight back on it on Sunday

Been consistent with exercise too, 3 classes per week (2 weights and 1 cardio) plus a long walk at the weekend

Moved up to 3.75mg this week with minimal side effects, will stay on this for next 4 weeks then see where I am

Keep on keeping on!

SqueakyDinosaur · 22/03/2025 08:26

@NewbieMJ I so hear you on the thigh issue! The tops of mine look like festoon blinds.

Oh yes - I'm with you, as I had a large infected boil right at the top of my inner thigh about 9 months ago, when the weather was hot last year.

I'd say definitely go to the GP - I had to in the end - it was so painful. She drew a line round it, asked me to make sure the red area didn't get any bigger and gave me strong antibiotics - I felt silly for not going sooner, but was just embarrassed about my size, so I feel your pain!

I needed the antibiotics though and they did the trick, so please go if it doesn't start to get better soon - we shouldn't have to suffer with everything else because we're big!

Ke11 · 22/03/2025 09:29

@Reginaphalangeeeee just adding you are not alone, I've experienced these too, in the fold of the apron (for lack of a better term) at the bikini line. I went through a time at my largest that I'd get them fairly often. I've found keeping it very clean and dry works well, do not squeeze, it just makes it angry at you. Honestly I have popped one or two with a sterile needle when they have developed a clear head and just needed a bit of help, then put a blister plaster (hydrocolloid) on top to help it keep draining and heal. Something I found helps is that I tuck my underwear under the fold at the bikini line if that makes sense, absorbs the moisture and I haven't had one since in that area.

Don't be afraid to go to your doctor though, they've seen much worse and would much rather you go in than sit in pain and let it get worse. If it gets very hot or looks like it's growing rapidly that can be a sign of infection. I know it's easier said than done, I've also waited it out rather than show a doctor.

I have once been to A&E for something similar but it was developing rapidly over my eye and within 3 hours it was affecting my vision. They were great, I was seen in about an hour and back home in 3 hours with a free (no prescription to collect, just handed to me) box of antibiotics and orders to come back if it doest start getting better in a few days. This was on a Saturday too.

MooBaggage · 22/03/2025 09:30

I had a dream last night about eating wine gums, so think it's definitely time to increase my dose slightly..! 🙄 My suppression is definitely lower and I can do without food noise in my dreams, so am going to increase to 6.5mg from Monday, for 3 weeks until my next pen which will be 7.5mg.

MabelSpan · 22/03/2025 09:35

@Reginaphalangeeeee I feel your pain! I had a big boil develop on my bum, right in the middle, it was so painful! I was able to sort it myself, but that was more out of desperation and it being a bank holiday weekend when it was at its worst and what I did is probably not what you should do.
I got a little cup of boiling water and a flannel and held it on the boil for as long as I could bear the pain of the hot water, a few seconds to begin with, then a little longer as the water got to a more sensible temp. I repeated this several times through the day. It worked, it must have been "ripe" as I was able to burst it and release the pressure/pain and drain all the blood out. After that I repeated it for another day until it looked and felt like it was totally defeated!
As I said, I am not suggesting anyone does this but I was desperate!

MabelSpan · 22/03/2025 09:37

@MooBaggage Mmmm wine gums...I do love a wine gum🙂

Ke11 · 22/03/2025 09:40

I'm starting to work on my fitness now. Just finished my first swim in ages. I used to go before work about 3 times a week but an incident with a false fire alarm where we all had to sit at the side of the pool and awful timing of my (very physically fit and slim) next door neighbour happening to be there and coming over to talk to me made me want to run away screaming.

I managed 50 lengths or 1250 metres in an hour. My aim is to get back up to at least 100 lengths in the 90 min 6.30am session. It's always been something I loved and I've been swimming since I was 2.

Once I'm established with swimming again I'll start doing body pump and eventually I'll work my way up to the actual gym (my biggest fear). I'm planning to do a few sessions with a personal trainer to learn the equipment and get some sort of routine going, then hopefully once a month with a trainer to make sure I'm pushing myself enough, upping weights, difficulty etc. My sister sent me a great home workout plan she used over covid, I'm going to try that out for days I cant mentally face a gym.

InfoSecInTheCity · 22/03/2025 09:47

Well done @Ke11I only have time for 30 mins in the pool before work, currently can do 36 lengths in that time, working my way towards 40 which is 1km. DD has decided when she turns 11 she wants a gym membership and to use the machines so I plan to go regularly with her.

Mounjaronewbie25 · 22/03/2025 10:04

Morning! Just checking in with end of week 5 results. Have done 4 weeks on 2.5mg and this was my first week on 5mg.

Highest weight - 16st 9.5
Mounjaro SW on 15.3.25 - 14st 12
CW - 13st 10

Loss this week: 2 lbs
Total loss on Mounjaro: 16 lbs (1 st 2)
Total loss overall: 41.5 lbs (2st 13.5)

Annoyingly half a pound shy of being 3 stone down in total (and I was 13st 9.5 on the scale yesterday but typically it’s bounced up again on my official weigh in day!). Ahh well next week I will hit it. Off to take me second 5mg dose :)

RainbowConnection1 · 22/03/2025 10:20

@Mounjaronewbie25 that’s amazing!! I’ve just done first weigh in and have lost 6lbs in the last week! Still a long way to go but I am chuffed to bits 😃.

That's brilliant! Please nag me to go back swimming...! I did a huge amount of swimming in October, when I was doing a sponsored swim and I loved it - but have been very infrequently and haven't been since starting MJ in January 2025 🙄

No idea why I can't make myself go - I love it, it's 10 minutes away, it's good for me and I have time...! 🙄🤔Oh and I obvs bought membership in January, so am paying for the pleasure of not going...

QueenOfHiraeth · 22/03/2025 11:34

@NewbieMJ I agree. I don't get suppression even on 12.5mg although food noise and becoming "hangry" are controlled which lets me eat better. The only time I get this feeling of fullness and not needing to eat is if I've had a big, high fat meal, like fish and chips or a pub meal, when I can then not eat later.
I do feel a bit aggrieved by not having it at times but it does mean I can eat healthily and still enjoy life. No danger of 400cals a day here!
@Reginaphalangeeeee Sympathies with the boil. Good advice on here for simple strategies but second a visit to GP if there is redness around it that is spreading
I'm another one struggling to force myself to exercise. I live by the seaside which should make it easier to get out but it's always either too cold, too windy or too busy!

Hi @PeskyPotato what a great start for you, hope your second week goes well too. I totally agree that it is life changing, it really has been for me so far.

Darlinghag · 22/03/2025 11:40

Happy Saturday folks!

Well, its a cracker of a week for me, I have lost 2.8lbs!! So this has made a milestone for me - I am now under 15st and weighing in at 14st 11.5lbs!!! I am THRILLED!!

I have an interim target of 14st 7 sometime in mid April, and then to try and hit ONEDERLAND sometime in the first half of May.

Some things to note this week:

  • the cashier at the local corner shop, or which I visit maybe twice a month has noticed my weightloss!! She doesn’t even know my name 😂😂
  • 8mg is still a great dose for me - I’m pleased I’ve settled a little bit into it, and I’m using a 10mg pen and taking 6 doses.
  • The 15st bracket felt like it took an age to get through - but 14 is already moving fast - its interesting to track the rise and fall of weighloss sometimes!!
  • Moving around is so easy!!! Getting off the floor with kids, crossing my legs, moving between crowded aisles - I’m slowly learning to judge what I can do and its a lot!
  • Despite the above, I am still not doing a lot of exercise. I have my set up in my spare room but I have to get a handle on it - I really want to do some stuff with a kettle bell etc and build some muscle in arms and butt!!

Following @RobinEllacotStrike recommendations, I think I am going to go with The Family Chemist for my next pen. Its a little cheaper than ASDA and I really want to be established with a maintenance provider before I get a BMI of 30 (which is still awhile away!). ASDA has gone down in the customer service dept lately and have gone quite slow in approving!

hope everyone is well!!

SqueakyDinosaur · 22/03/2025 12:22

Right, lovely peeps, I need to change suppliers (currently with MedExpress). What's the best combination of decent price, discreet packaging and sensible maintenance plans, in your opinion, please?

SqueakyDinosaur · 22/03/2025 12:28

@Darlinghag I've looked at the Family Chemist site, and under Maintenance Plans, it just says "Coming soon".

@RobinEllacotStrike have they told you that they do support low-dose maintenance?

morbidcuriosity · 22/03/2025 12:34

@Darlinghag @SqueakyDinosaur I went with IQ doctor, I've only had 1 pen so far.. ordering my next next week.. but my 1st order with them I was impressed with how quick they were, they answer the phone and I had to explain why I had a gap in ordering, but was all done very quickly. They use royal mail and if I remember it was a plain box.. also have discount for everyone, think my next 7.5 is 129 quid..

gimmemounjaro · 22/03/2025 12:48

@SqueakyDinosaur
I asked Family Chemist about their maintenance policy and they said: “You can stay on the 2.5mg or 5mg long-term if you have a weight-related comorbidity but we do allow everyone else to stay on these doses for a few months to help with appetite suppression or food noise.”

I asked them did that mean no longer-term maintenance available for patients without comorbidities, and they said: “We can provide the medication to all patients long-term but we do encourage patients who don't have a weight-related comorbidity to eventually come off the medication as we still don't know the long-term effects of the medication.”

That was 3 weeks ago but things might be changing.

gimmemounjaro · 22/03/2025 12:50

Well done btw @Darlinghag, absolutely smashed that 15st barrier 💪

WeAllHaveWings · 22/03/2025 13:13

The 14's are eluding me with my first gain - 1lb up on last week 😱. Not unexpected as previous two weeks were higher losses and last week I just wasn't feeling right/eating well, so perhaps that was just balancing itself out now I am eating again.

I have been eating better this week than last, and a day out at Culzean Castle, lunch (mini mac n' cheese with garlic bread and chips 😳) followed by a Chinese last night (1/2 portion but salty) wouldn't have helped! Although we did walk 4 miles, a lot of which was up hill pushing a 2yo in a buggy - so that must count as strength training! 😂

End of week - 39 (5 x 2.5mg, 34 x 3.75mg)
SW - 21st 5lbs BMI 44.8
CW - 15st 01lbs BMI 31.5
Losses (2024) - 10,2,2,4,1,3,3,3,1,3,2,2,3,3,2,3,3,2,1,4,0,2,3,3,1,4,0
Losses (2025) - 0,3,2,1,3,1,1,0,2,3,3,-1,
Total loss - 6st 04lbs (88lbs), 29.4%
Next Target 🎯- 14st 3lb by end June (BMI < 30, 100lbs lost, Onederland!)

I can wait another week for those 14's to appear!

A ham hough is simmering away on the hob to make a big pot of lentil soup and it smells amazing - leek, carrots and swede are all cut up ready to go, lentils rinsed and soaking. Will be having a huge bowl for dinner tonight!
