DH and I were discussing the potential impacts of people on WLI both within families and also in the economy.

Since I started on mounjaro DH has also lost weight. A mixture of being a little more conscious of his own portion size, not having so much 'treat' food available, not being tempted to get a takeaway because I'm not suggesting it.

Is the same thing happening in other families? Is there a natural knock on effect? Fewer biscuits, sweets etc being bought, less temptation in the home. I could see this being a potential benefit for all members of a family.

Will there also be impacts in local economies? Local takeaways which get a certain proportion of their income from a small number of regular customers. I'm not meaning mounjaro laying waste to whole sectors just certain shops seeing a little down tick in their revenue.

Just idle thoughts on a Friday!

I’m going to be ‘tested’ next weekend. DH is away from Friday morning until Sunday evening, so it’s just me all weekend. I have a busy day on Saturday, but usually if he’s away for the weekend I’ll meticulously plan what I’m going to eat. Usually it would be a takeaway courtesy of uber eats, or my other favourite, thickly sliced fresh bread toasted with butter and marmalade and chocolate/crisps with a couple of good films.
I know that I won’t be doing anything like that this time round, but nestling down to a couple of good films with a salad doesn’t quite hold the same appeal!

@bookishbabe just letting you know your thread was such a hit we’ve started another. I hope you can come and join us again when you feel you are ready.

I do exactly the same when my partner is away. What about

jazzygenie · 07/03/2025 12:02

Sorry fat fingers sent too early.. what about planning in something nice to eat that feels a treat but lower calorie? Or something you don't usually have if your partner doesn't like maybe. My partner is going on holiday in a fortnight so I'm going to try and do the above

TragicMuse · 07/03/2025 12:11

Zara. I want to be able to shop at Zara.

Hadn't really thought about it before, but now that I have it's a real target for me.

I think I’ll probably go down the scrambled egg and feta on toasted sourdough bread, still indulgent in my mind and a real treat! Might also treat myself to some popcorn! ❤️

@GnomeDePlume my DH has also lost some weight, about half a stone I think, because my habits have changed. Our Saturday night rituals of chocolate and crisps and Sunday dessert rituals have gone, he is eating smaller portions, but also eating my leftovers 🤣.
Our once a week takeaway is no more (we did have a takeaway last night but it was two subway salads so doesn’t really count) so the local Chinese/Indian is losing £100+ a month by us not using them, I don’t miss it one bit.

I can't imagine my hips ever being Zara sized 😂

I'm having a lot less takeaways if I do want a pizza instead of ordering a large pizza and eating it over 2 days, I order the 7inch thin base.

I have a day home alone soon too, but I'll probably just stick to salad for lunch instead of what I would have got delivered previously, or I'll walk to the shop if the weathers ok, then at least if I get something Which isn't as healthy I'll have burnt some calories!

jazzygenie · 07/03/2025 16:32

@Iwouldratherbesinging that sounds sensible and a treat, so a good balance.

What are you all having for dinner tonight? I'm feeling hungry and would like something tasty yet easy but can't decide

GnomeDePlume · 07/03/2025 16:42

@Iwouldratherbesinging and @Lds1 that was the sort of thing I was thinking of. Rinse and repeat for other people on WLI and that's a fair amount of revenue they will be down. Not saying it's a bad thing but I think it is a thing.

Of course that will be shared over a lot of different takeaways so maybe won't be noticeable. But then again I imagine the odd local chippy might be wondering why their revenue has dropped a little bit.

DH thinks that Greggs might see a change if WLI really start to roll out.

Kay2000 · 07/03/2025 16:49

My husband is eating all the food I’m not, so he’s definitely not going to lose weight!

After a 1lb gain last week, I’m 5lb down today, bringing my total loss since January to 1st 7lb, am well chuffed about it too, I did a little happy dance back to bed this morning 🤣

I just went to my local pharmacy to ask for an alternative to lactulose, as being lactose intolerant, it’s having a rather unpleasant effect. He gave me some fibre capsules but along with that gave me a “warning” to only be on Mounjaro max 6 months as “it causes osteoporosis”. Now I’m pretty sure some thinner people taking it, who don’t need to, may well be showing signs of osteoporosis especially if their diet is poor - but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t give everyone it, otherwise people with diabetes might be shouting about it more. And the side effects of going into old age morbidly obese didn’t seem to occur him. I came away feeling quite upset/annoyed.

I am still having takeaway once a week, I don’t see what’s wrong with that, it’s only food and I’m working on not banning anything, just eating like a person without overeating issues would. . With less food noise and desire to eat, I eat a smaller portion and have no desire to scoff the lot. Last Saturday we had pizza, I enjoyed about 2/3 of it and although the leftovers went in the fridge, I haven’t eaten them and threw them out on bin day. Tonight we’re having fish and chips as a van is in the area, I eat and enjoy the fish and around 10 chips.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 07/03/2025 17:24

@Kay2000 that’s very uninformed of him, I’m sure rapid weight loss can cause osteoporosis, and there was something in the news a while ago about someone taking WLI but was not overweight and was told she had lost bone density. I’m sure that somewhere in the depths of my mind I read something about obesity can also cause issues with osteoporosis - dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t!
I’ve bought a box of movical today for constipation to see if that helps as the lactulose is a bit hit and miss. I have noticed though, that because we are digesting things slower, it’s the same for anything we take for constipation (at least for me it is), so overnight relief turns into 48 hours before relief…

@jazzygenie tonight we are having prawns, avocado, salad and some potato wedges. I had a bizarre lunch today that consisted of beetroot, pickled cabbage and a babybel, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Hello lovelies, @Iwouldratherbesinging I went to centerparcs a few weeks ago and really struggled with eating pizza and snacks. I had a bit and then stopped It was magical - like I had a “thin” brain 😂

NSV this week, I’ve finally swapped my WFH black joggers - size 26 down to XL - the best thing being that they came from Asda - £10! The ones I usually buy are £22 from simply be. I know we’ve all been victims of how expensive plus size clothes are. (As well as being cold shoulder and full of fecking butterflies 😂)

4 pounds down today so that’s 1 stone 12 since 10th Jan! Going for 2 stone next week!!

Lobsterteapot · 07/03/2025 18:38

Ooh meant to tell you all, the half size me podcast this week is covering the emotional size of weight loss on GLP1. Well worth a listen

We're having a quorn korma. A good sauce with coconut yogurt or normal
Plain instead of cream and not sweet like korma can be. Lots of spices and deliciousness!

Doggymummar · 07/03/2025 21:22

We had fish and chips from the chippy. I managed 6 chips and two bites of fish. Boy it was delish. My OH said why didn't I get him a large cod like usual, then saw how much he got off my plate. Nice little treat.

Kay2000 · 07/03/2025 21:59

Can I ask what pharmacies everyone is using? I’ve been with Asda but want to move to a cheaper one. However I’ve seen MedExpress have had supply issues, wondering if others are too? Asda took ages to ship my last pen and even when I got a shipping notice it was then followed by another delay, with no explanation. Any recommendations?

Doggymummar · 07/03/2025 22:43

I'm with oushk now. But was with Chequp for the last 18 months

Iwouldratherbesinging · 07/03/2025 23:03

@Kay2000 I changed from MedExpress to IQ doctor in November mainly due to price. MedExpress referral codes everywhere drive me mad, they even sneak in on this thread but soon get reported!

OP posts:
Lds1 · 08/03/2025 07:26

I use Zava they were the cheapest when I started and you can buy more than 1 pen at a time, I'll try to move before I get to the cut off BMI (30 or 27, I can't remember) to somewhere that offers maintenance

TragicMuse · 08/03/2025 09:26

I'm with IQDoctor. I think I might be doing a bit of switching to keep the prices down!

It's my jab and WI day.

Jan 19th 270 lbs
SW 263.5 lbs
CW 260 lbs

Total loss 10 lbs
Loss this week 3.5 lbs

It's been fairly easy to stay focused - I think that's partly new diet or first week zeal as I have had food thoughts but they've been mostly cushioned with a feeling of 'I'd like that but I really can't be arsed'. Is that suppression? I don't know!
Is full active suppression no food thoughts at all?

Either way, I'm feeling focussed and supported.

And I'm enjoying revisiting my old MFP recipes log and reminding myself of all the things I can cook which will be within my calories.

Onward!

TragicMuse · 09/03/2025 15:50

I'm tidying!

This was a funny little find...no idea when it dates from, I'd guess early 70s, based on the style of the print.

Cannot wait!!

Snap! I'm wearing a dress I have no recollection of owning today 😂
There are some I bought on lockdown that I thought would look a bit less sausage-in-skin by now, but not quite. And then the Thin Clothes From 2013 await for later this year.

Wow, this is awesome. Such tiny calorie allowances. Where did you find it?
