Hi,

Anyone on WLI and in the slow lane v. welcome here for a bit of plodding supportive chat!

Plodders, bobbers, plateau-ers, stallers and stuck ducks come on in! Would be great to chat with others who are in the same boat, ie travelling at the speed of snails on their WL journey.

I have a mountain to move (nearly 5 st), am not ready to give up on Mounjaro yet and would love a bit of company here on this long haul to reach a healthy BMI. 🦥 🐌 🏔️

Come join me if you have a long way to go (either due to slow losses or amount to lose) and would like some peer support to keep going when the scales are being stubborn. It’s hard being on WLI when it’s not working as well for you and progress is slow or stalled. This is a safe space to share anything, the good, the bad and the side effecty. Anything positive (scale or non scale related) as well as freedom to vent and grumble as much as you want

If you taking WLI and trucking along nicely or nearly at your goal weight that is fantastic but please post on a different thread.

Forgot to add my graph. Randomly went up 1 kg this week (well last few days), which hasn't helped morale!

Edited

Hi! That graph looks very like me. I've gone from 106 kilos to 84 kilos, but the last 10 kilos have taken me since last November, so around a kilo a month loss. I've been royally pissed off at times but I'm not giving up. I accept my age (54) and a host of medical issues are playing a part in my painfully slow loss.

I couldn't stay on the other threads as so many people were complaining of only losing 3 to 3 pounds per week and it being sooooo slooooow and I just wanted to scream. I've never achieved that kind of weekly weight loss no matter what I've done. Some folk when I did Slimming World were often dropping 4,5 and 6 pounds per week.

Anyway, I get my yearly bloods done at the end of August so I'm hoping they will show a big improvement in my borderline high cholesterol level and my blood sugars which had been creeping up year on year.

Just had my first 15mg pen delivered so I'm off to jab.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 09/08/2025 10:59

Also @AlmostStopped I meant to say that I agree I could be doing more too. I've decided that it's stupid to be paying £200 a month and not putting every ounce of effort in myself, so I'm also focused on better food choices, more water and more walking.

Good luck to us both! (and everyone else here)

AlmostStopped · 09/08/2025 11:18

Thanks for your reply @RainbowZebraWarrior . We do sound very similar! Chat gpt told me this was a typical response to the MJ...I stay away from the other threads completely that paint a very different picture! I think being younger and more active makes a big difference.

I missed off my current BMI on the graph (32.6, so I still have a long way to go). I feel, and look, so much better though and in many ways these 60 weeks have flown. I have accepted that I will need to be on WL medication longterm. A long history of yo yo dieting, and of course every increasing starting weights. Not gaining weight is a success in itself.

I drink loads of water at work but not at home, which is a bit of an odd habit I need to address. I'm a teacher so I've really noticed it this holiday. I thought I was going to get properly on top of meal planning/prep this holiday...half way through already and only one vague attempt so far! I think the key is going to have to be a water bottle...off to get it filled now. Oh and back on MFP starting now.

Yes, good luck to us all!

tryingtobesogood · 09/08/2025 11:53

I love your graph @AlmostStopped it shows how we need to take a longer term view of all this. I don’t put the ups on there now, only the downs.

I have stalled this week so I am having a reset, planning out my meals, upping my activity and cutting back on the booze as that’s crept up this week. I hope this will give me a whoosh next week.

AlmostStopped · 09/08/2025 13:27

Thanks @tryingtobesogood . Your graph is looking good too! Nice idea to only record the losses now. Yes, longer term view definitely needed!

I think back to my last 'major' weight loss attempt I had before MJ. I went from 16 st down to 11 st in about 9 months, about 6 years ago. That was on a VLCD (which worked out 1000 kcals/day with milk allowance/veg) in blocks of up to 12 weeks with a break of 1-4 weeks in between (where I would gain but then lose that in the first week back on). So, yes, I lost 5 st in 9 months (it was 1 lb/week at the end) but where was I at the one year mark? I had definitely put a stone back on by that point. Five years? I had put it all back on plus a stone. I am not deluding myself that I can get to goal and come off WL meds unless something seriously changes. If it takes me three years to get to goal (I accept that may not be a BMI of 23-24 now but more like 26) and I can then STAY there that is way more successful than any diet I have ever been on.

If I aim for 40% protein, 30% carbs, 30% fat on MFP that is quite challenging. Even though I don't eat much I can see when I aim to do this how my current eating is quite far off the mark. Even if I cannot lose faster then I would like to enjoy what I'm eating more/feel better on it/continue losing. Habits need to change!

PlodAlongPolly · 09/08/2025 18:34

Hi @AlmostStopped 👋 lovely to have you join us in plod along club! Thanks for sharing and I also really related to a lot of what you said, and very well done on your overall progress, that’s amazing! I suffer with low metabolism due to hypothyroidism which makes it hard to shift weight, even on MJ, am also at the start of peri so hormone stuff rumbling on in the background which also doesn’t help. Like you I also had good success on a VLCD in past years (I did the Cambridge 1:1 plan) lost nearly 3 stone but fell pregnant soon after and gained it all back plus some postnatally. You have a great plan going forwards with your diet and fitness, all the very best and let us know how you get on! :)

@PlodAlongPolly i think so - I just registered that there was something on the horizon. Bone density is a worry - I guess you have to weigh up the benefits vs risks.

And I hear you re the runny tummy! I’m trying to understand what sets it off. Do you think it’s if I’ve eaten too much (relatively)? I do have some suppression but nowhere near what most people seem to have. And I’ve never experienced this cessation of food thought.

@GeraniumRoseblush I have a finger prick kit. You can buy them pretty cheaply. The only issue is that you won’t have a baseline to compare the impact of MJ on your blood sugars. But you can still see how you perform against the ‘good’ criteria.

I have not figured out what’s triggering my runny tum either @0ncemorewithfee1ing! It seems a bit random but is def comes on quicker with more urgency since being on the higher doses. I think it might be related to having no gallbladder as I was having some (but fewer) episodes since removal. I don’t have head space to start a food diary it being summer hols as have my hands full with my DC and their boundless energy 😅 (I would love more energy to match theirs!). Not having enough water though so am going to try and re-boot this

Thank you @PlodAlongPolly 🤗

I am very happy to have finally 'joined' plodders!

My friend had the urgency/runner tummy on MJ when she was on the higher doses (almost symtom free before that). Seemed to be related to cheese, she was starting to think anyway. She's now come off MJ (for a different reason) so never got to the point of solving it fully.
I had it much earlier on but that resolved quite quickly, I did drop my dose slightly though (I sub-dosed). Anyway, I hope it resolves for you without the need to do a food diary/cut anything out.

Ripping out carpet, going down the tip and furniture removal for me today. Good exercise I suppose. I'm pleased to have something fixed to do really - I have a love/hate relationship with the summer holidays now no children to entertain during it!

Solidarity with all fellow plodders! Interesting that a few of us have done a VLCD. I do wonder if I buggered up an already rubbish metabolism.

I definitely don't think it has helped losing and gaining weight so many times! I've been having a think about how my general lifestyle and activity levels have changed so much during my adult years...that would be a long post so I'll leave it there...one of the many reasons why I want to lose weight is to change my lifestyle too. It's a slow process...

0ncemorewithfee1ing · 12/08/2025 07:15

I only weigh when I’m at my flat in London - so only once or twice a week (always on consecutive days). And I spend the preceding 36 hours veering from fear to a completely irrational hope that something will click and I’ll lose a couple of lbs. Given that’s my usual monthly loss, on a good month mind, this is ridiculous and I’m just setting myself up to failure and disappointment. Anyone else go through this emotional rollercoaster?

Doggymummar · 12/08/2025 07:33

I weigh everytime I walk past the scales pretty much, multiple times a day. They no longer get to dictate my mood though, and I only record my weight when it's gone down, so it could be a few weeks between.

Sounds very sensible

AlmostStopped · 12/08/2025 13:31

Yes, sometimes the emotional rollercoaster still happens. Hard not to let it affect you...I WI once a week 'officially' (and record on spreadsheet) but have a quick check another 0-2 times in the week.

I was 86.55 kg on my 59th sat WI, 86.25 kg a couple of day after than but then up to 87.25 kg by my 60th WI. I know that was a temporary thing but still...it was quite a hike up.

I did think about going back to daily WI (and just record when it goes down) but I really can't be bothered with that. Oh and it would 'ruin' my spreadsheet!

I think overall though it feels like less of a rollercoaster on MJ as I am not making a massive effort and counting calories and feeling hungry etc. I know I am in this for the very longhaul.

What else are you working beside weight loss? I'm trying to focus on other changes too in this 'transformation'. Find so many things are either directly or indirectly related. I'm getting my 'colours' done (again, had then done 15 years ago but I don't think I am that season now as I have aged) tomorrow - narrows the choice down if nothing else when hopefully buying new clothes in smaller sizes!

tryingtobesogood · 12/08/2025 13:43

I’ve been buying new, bright ‘not dowdy’ clothes as I’m likely to be in this size for some time, maybe until Christmas and all my clothes this size are old. I’ve tried vinted but never seem to get things that are that nice or fit that well so I’ve been looking at sale stuff instead. I love dresses and now have quite a collection to see me through to my next drop in size.

I weigh every day but very casually, as in I get on, make a mental note of up or down and record if it’s down. It’s helped take the emotion. Out of it, mostly

AlmostStopped · 14/08/2025 09:29

Turns out I am still a Winter - although maybe true rather than burnished (not soft autumn as chatgpt suggested) - lipstick in the correct colour palette made a massive difference.

I feel more motivated towards making a few tweaks that I hope will take me from a very very slow loser to just a slow loser, as a result. Get to the next dress size down...go clothes shopping (I think I am going to get help with this and pay the very stylish lady who did my colours to come with me - as that is a service she offers). I've got enough in my current size (been here forever but from tight to almost too loose).

That is one of the good things about losing slowly - staying in an interim dress size so long that you can get a decent amount of wear out of new purchases so can you justifying buying them more.

True about sticking at a size being worth investing in clothes. I actually bought some new jeans from Zara this week and they are lovely. I used their algorithm thing to get the size and they said I should order large, but having worn them for a couple of days I should have got medium. Nevermind they are lovely and loose and I might order the smaller ones as well to see me through Autumn. I've gone grey since I last had my colours done so I might look at doing them again.

tryingtobesogood · 14/08/2025 12:03

What are you doing? I want to speed things up from glacial to a snails pace so I am:

  1. using WW to record my food intake. I hate calories but find WW points less annoying.
  2. increasing my exercise from not a lot to some. To do this I need a new sun shade on the conservatory as it gets so hot in there and that’s where my treadmill is
  3. doing strength training to tone up
  4. drinking the water and eating the fibre so that I go 💩 regularly as I have been glacial there as well
  5. go up a dose to 10mg. I was ready this week but it’s my birthday next week and I don’t want SE to spoil it.

I am away towards the end of Sept and would like to have some regular losses between now and then.

@AlmostStopped i have found that dropping a size which allowed me to buy some nice new clothes has inspired me to keep going. It’s so nice to care about my appearance again

AlmostStopped · 14/08/2025 12:24

I'm on 15 mg now (due my 6th dose later today). So no where to go now. It works very well, especially at the start of the week...hope it will keep working.

I'm not really doing anything at the moment. That is the problem. I will make healthier choices but mainly relying on just not really wanting to eat that much. I need to do MFP for a few days and look at macros. Knock those odd glasses of wine on the head. Plan. Meal prep. I did start this a couple of weeks ago but I ended up getting a shoulder impingement (almost certainly due to adding in some strength training) and that went out the window. Shoulder considerably better now so I can get my head around it again. I know I am overthinking it! I feel like I need something really formulaic 90% of the time.

AlmostStopped · 14/08/2025 12:54

Now the price hike news. That rather forces the issue! 😯

tryingtobesogood · 14/08/2025 12:56

What price hike?

AlmostStopped · 14/08/2025 13:27

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5391635-big-price-increases

@tryingtobesogood

Will have to wait and see what happens...but it sounds like we can expect some kind of price increase.

I would order my next pen today, a week early, but away Tue-Fri next week and turnaround from ordering to delivery was 6 days last time from ASDA. I wonder if there will be any left with other people ordering early/buying more than one at a time...

Big price increases? | Mumsnet

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so? Very concerning as it looks like...

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5391635-big-price-increases

tryingtobesogood · 14/08/2025 14:00

Does it work though? I have just ordered my next pen early and might see if I can get one more order in to see me through the next 3 months. I will then review where the prices are and where I am financially.

so annoying as I know I need a year to get to goal

0ncemorewithfee1ing · 14/08/2025 14:21

The pens keep in the fridge for a year @tryingtobesogood, but it’s a case of predicting what dose you’ll want.

I am keeping my teeth gritted as a bloke in the office talks about his diet (whilst eating a huge pasta salad). He’s on his 2nd week and lost 6lbs last week. I might be green with envy - that would take me 3 months.
