Plodders Club 🐌

Hi,

Anyone on WLI and in the slow lane v. welcome here for a bit of plodding supportive chat!

Plodders, bobbers, plateau-ers, stallers and stuck ducks come on in! Would be great to chat with others who are in the same boat, ie travelling at the speed of snails on their WL journey.

I have a mountain to move (nearly 5 st), am not ready to give up on Mounjaro yet and would love a bit of company here on this long haul to reach a healthy BMI. 🦥 🐌 🏔️

Come join me if you have a long way to go (either due to slow losses or amount to lose) and would like some peer support to keep going when the scales are being stubborn. It’s hard being on WLI when it’s not working as well for you and progress is slow or stalled. This is a safe space to share anything, the good, the bad and the side effecty. Anything positive (scale or non scale related) as well as freedom to vent and grumble as much as you want

If you taking WLI and trucking along nicely or nearly at your goal weight that is fantastic but please post on a different thread.

For a bit of background, I’ve been on Mounjaro nearly 4 months and am glad to be down 8kg from my start weight (97kg), however most of this came off in the first month and been very slow since. Stalled the last 8weeks with no further losses (frustrating!). Am feeling a bit invisible on other threads atm as no one else seems to be having issues with progress, with most speeding towards their goals and obvs v happy (understandably). This is very different to how I am feeling though and trying to manage (a slow) MJ journey. I don’t want to feel like a failure just because my losses and progress are very slow and stalling. It is taking a lot of mental effort to stick with the program and I don’t want to quit (in my case Mounjaro but any WLI medication is welcome here) as have had some losses, but having to accept this journey is looking like a long haul with more mental effort and willpower involved than was foreseeable at the start.

I am sticking with MJ for now, in the hope it will aide further weight loss at some point further along (the snail trail). Am on 5mg, moving up to 7.5mg soon.

So here we go, a new thread where plodders can meet!

There is a slow losers thread, but quite a slow posting thread too. You might find it helpful to search for it and have a read through, I’ve found it very motivating when feeling frustrated at crawling along. Good luck with your journey!

Ah, thank you I will look that one up! Thanks am hopeful titrating up will help and trying to be patient in the mean time. There must be a reason losses slow down or stop for periods of time but does feel a bit endless atm

How is your journey going?

Do you drink lots of water? I've lost just over 10kg 1st 9lbs in almost 5 months so around 1lb a week on average!

1clavdivs · 28/02/2025 21:58

My average loss is 1.2lbs per week (6 months). I could probably drink more, tbh.

MissionToSize10 · 28/02/2025 23:24

Ive got 7 stone to shift. I want to plod in a way because im terrified of saggy skin. Im eating well, exercising im on wk 2 of 2.5mg. Ive lost 5lbs so far.

have any of you suffered with the skin issue?

Bluehels · 28/02/2025 23:34

I have a feeling Im a member of your club!
im wk5d1 and have only lost 2.9kg. I actually gain last week and had a small loss this week.

i moved up to 5 mg so im hoping that will help. The supression ive had is very milkd. Tbh its mostly taken the edge off of sugar cravings and occasional feelings of fullness but nothing t much. Im currently eating about half of what i used to. If not much change happens over march i will continue to move through the doses.

I do however need to drink more- maybe thats the problem?

In 4 months you probably should be on 10mg and ready to go up to 12mg. I think the low dose may be having an impact on your slow weight loss. Have you stayed at low doses due to side effects?

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/03/2025 07:15

As above you are on a too low dose

ideally you are meant to go up monthly till you hit your dose and lose well

many people don’t lose a lot on on 5 (but obv Some do) but you aren’t in the gang

at 4mths I would have expected you to be on 10 going onto 12.5 for 5th month

also you do need to eat healthily and count cals and drink 2lit of water + daily

post a few days of what you eat

PlodAlongPolly · 01/03/2025 09:09

Hi everyone, doseage wise has not been straightforward for me (due to other health conditions and their medications) but will be moving up soon which am hopeful will help!
The hydration is a good point, and def an area I could do more.

I didn’t want to get too much into the nitty gritty of my own stuff but was keen to set this up as a support thread for anyone losing at a slow pace or struggling with stalls, plateaus etc and generally feeling ‘stuck’.

Lovely to have more joiners on here and welcome! :)

Hi Mysticmaiden that’s a great loss, v well done! What dose are you on?

Water wise is ok but some days (particularly the v busy ones) I could do with having more. Would love to lose 1 lb a week (or anything tb honest! 😅) and hoping going up a dose might get things moving again. From what I’ve read on the other MJ chat threads 1 lb a week seems normal, although appreciate it might feel sluggish esp if there’s a lot to lose. Are you getting much suppression?

Consistent progress is great though and means what you are doing is working, keep going!

Hi MissionToSize10 👋 all the best in your first month! Well done on 5lbs off, how are you finding it so far?

Re the speed of losses, it seems results vary widely with some having a big losses in the initial weeks and others not, so will be hard to gauge what your longer term pace will be at this point, but wishing you the very best and let us know how you get on!

Re skin, I don’t know if speed of losses has an impact on loose skin but maybe there is something that can help minimise it needed further along on your journey? Sorry is not an area I’ve explored! (admittedly the end goal is well out of sight for me)

Hi Bluehels and welcome! 👋 that’s a good start, nearly half a stone! 2.5 is under the therapeutic dose so hopefully the move up to 5 will help you along. Did you get any side effects moving up?

With you on the mild suppression, the effects of the meds are minimal for me atm for me with food noise and no suppression most days. I did get sugar cravings completely curbed in the early weeks too which was great but they have been back since Jan unfortunately, which isn’t helping for sure. It sounds like MJ is having an effect for you if you’re eating half of what you used to though, so that’s positive! Smaller portions will help you make downward progress and hope the dose increase helps too. Drinking more is a good goal. I am thinking of a technique of using different coloured bands (hair bands or elastic bands) on pint glasses to visually track how many glasses throughout the day ie light colours to dark, eg white band for the first pint in the morning, then yellow, orange, red, (and if I get further!) purple, blue. Just an idea, just filling a big jug is another probably easier option! 😆

Hi FlipFlopSpots yes unfortunately it was due to medical reasons I had to stay on a low dose for longer (drug interactions)

Sorted via GP now with medication adjustments and thankfully has settled down so will be moving up a dose next week (just finishing off my current 5mg pen).
I did get gastric side effects too but was primarily due to the effectiveness of my other medications being impacted.

Can I join please? I get so down reading other threads with massive losses from day 1, that just isn't my experience.

I started in July last year and have lost 24lb, so 3lb a month which is pretty crap compared to most people. I have 2 doses of my second 10mg left and my 12.5mg arrived today. I think it is finally starting to work for me in the way everyone else is talking about (no appetite, can't finish a small meal, not interested in food etc) so I hope my loss will speed up a bit but it has taken a hell of a lot of patience, faith and money to get this far!

ChristmasLightsLover · 01/03/2025 21:17

Hey @PlodAlongPolly this is a great thread. Thank you for starting us off. And well done on your progress to date. Keep going.

SW 125kg
CW 90kg

I have been stuck at 90kg since mid December. It is so frustrating. I am however upping my walking and fitness significantly so I wonder if I'm eating too much and not in calorie deficit.

I'm considering my fitness pal as a way to track my calories.

PlodAlongPolly · 01/03/2025 21:54

Hi PinkSour! Yes come on in, you’re v welcome here! 😊 I can relate as was getting down on other threads too so wanted to start one for us plodders. I found out today that there’s also a slow losers thread which Sadteacher mentioned higher up.

Well done on your overall loss so far, 24 lbs is great going! That’s encouraging that the higher doses are starting to work for you (my hope also). Have you had any side effects going up to higher doses?

Totally agree with you with the hell of a lot of patience, faith and money! Lots of these needed and determination too. I am holding on to hope that it will be worth it in the end. It’s so helpful to hear from people like yourself who are sticking with it. Keep going and wishing you all the best with your move up to 12.5 soon.

Hi ChristmasLightsLover 👋 Lovely to have you join here too! Your 35 kg loss is awe inspiring, wow and well done! Can I ask when you started WLI, ie how long did it take you to get from SW to 90kg?

I was starting to feel like the only one with a long stall, so am slightly relieved to hear from someone else having the same issue, but obvs would love to get things moving again for both of us(!) and anyone else in limbo the stall zone.

It is frustrating isn’t it? You are doing so well on the fitness front though, keep going, the health benefits will be stacking up 🌟 I previously heard that a metabolic adjustment can happen with upping exercise so maybe your body is getting used to the changes. I’ve heard good things about MFP so maybe worth a go. Hope things start to shift again for you soon

Thank you replying @PlodAlongPolly :))

I love how threads make me do things differently. When someone mentioned water, I got up and necked a pint. And have had two more before bed. Makes me realise that I'd not kept that going...

I started at 125 kg in March 2024. So it's now been a year. I have been tracking my weight daily until Feb as I was finding myself struggling with head stuff around the numbers.

I weighed myself maybe once a week in Feb. In theory I'm going into March at 89.8 kg. But it just doesn't move in the right direction consistently.

For my height I think I'm looking at 1600 calories a day. 1200 would be very low calorie. I think MFP would help me get more of an idea on where I use them too.

What's worked for you so far? And what hasn't?

BackToWegovy · 02/03/2025 01:56

Hello. I am a regular from the slow losers thread. Come and join us there if you want to. It does feel like we are a minority and it is great to have safe spaces where we are not the only ones not losing 8kg in week one and then 4 stone down a few months later. It is still working for us if the trend is downwards or even maintenance for a while instead of more gains. Hope the next dose gets things moving again for you on the scales.

PinkSour · 02/03/2025 08:15

I'm aware of the slow losers thread but it's been going so long the losses are still huge and it makes me feel down again.

Thanks, I had some bad nausea and sulphur burps on my first 10mg so decided to have another but that's all gone away now so I'm moving up again.

I'm hoping the weather improving makes it easier to stick to my calories as well, it's tough around Christmas and I find Jan and Feb so depressing.

DarlingCoffee · 02/03/2025 08:48

Hi! Can I join? I’ve been on injectables since August last year and have lost only 9lbs! I’m going to keep going until summer and then reassess. I’m on 10mg hoping to move up soon as I’m still at just over 14 stone which is not good 😔

I am definitely eating less and my appetite is curbed. I could be drinking more water and pushing myself harder with exercise. But it’s so frustrating! I wish I was losing more so it’s of comfort to see others losing slowly too.

1clavdivs · 02/03/2025 10:16

@PlodAlongPolly I've just moved to 10mg. I stayed on the lower doses for a while as I felt I was losing ok (around half a stone per month to start with) but it's slowed down a lot. I only lost 2lbs last month. I've ordered another 10mg for next month but if I stay at this slow rate I might ask for the 12.5
