Hi,

Anyone on WLI and in the slow lane v. welcome here for a bit of plodding supportive chat!

Plodders, bobbers, plateau-ers, stallers and stuck ducks come on in! Would be great to chat with others who are in the same boat, ie travelling at the speed of snails on their WL journey.

I have a mountain to move (nearly 5 st), am not ready to give up on Mounjaro yet and would love a bit of company here on this long haul to reach a healthy BMI. 🦥 🐌 🏔️

Come join me if you have a long way to go (either due to slow losses or amount to lose) and would like some peer support to keep going when the scales are being stubborn. It’s hard being on WLI when it’s not working as well for you and progress is slow or stalled. This is a safe space to share anything, the good, the bad and the side effecty. Anything positive (scale or non scale related) as well as freedom to vent and grumble as much as you want

If you taking WLI and trucking along nicely or nearly at your goal weight that is fantastic but please post on a different thread.

I am on 15mg and have lost 3 stone (very very slowly - nearly 11 months). I have another stone to lose but have stalled at 11 stone 4. I have just calculated my TDEE and it says that I would have to eat less than 1200 calories a day to lose a pound a week. This is under the recommended daily allowance so I am not sure where to go from here - I have osteoarthritis so exercise is difficult sometimes, but the weight loss helps the arthritis so catch 22

I'm not telling you what to do. And plenty disagree with this, but I have to do 800 cals and I lost three pounds last month.

womananddog · 30/07/2025 15:06

@Doggymummar - thanks. I am going to have to consider this. Even with MJ, I am going to find that level of restriction very hard to stick to

tryingtobesogood · 30/07/2025 15:11

I have lost that 1lb to reach 2st loss. I’ve also invested in a treadmill, I love a treadmill and can’t wait to get moving more.

@womananddog i couldn’t eat that low either, I would create a sense of deprivation and cause me to over correct.

perhaps you have reached a set point, and need to give it some time.

womananddog · 30/07/2025 15:32

@tryingtobesogood possibly a set point. ChatGPT says I need to do strength training so I will look into that

GeraniumRoseblush · 01/08/2025 15:10

Hi plodders 👋 can I join? Have been looking for a tribe who understand how bleedin' frustrating it is to lose weight at a glacial pace! Particularly when compared to weekly losses others talk about. Obviously very happy for them of course, am just jealous! 😁

Can totally relate to the bobbing about that goes on - I drop a bit, then go up and then go down further. Anyone know the reason for this?

Angie7654 · 02/08/2025 11:40

Chronic plodder here. According to MyFitnessPal I’ve lost 2lb in 3 months, mostly by bobbing up and down. I’ve lost 50lb in total over the course of a year. I’m on oushk conti maintenance plan although I went into maintenance at bmi 25.5 so started at a higher level whilst others are getting to lower bmis before maintaining. Currently sitting at 153lb. Lowest weight was 150 but over last few weeks it’s creeping up again. It’s very frustrating as I was trying to titrate down and now I’m going to have to go back up again to stop the gains. My highest was 7.5mg and I wanted to get down to 5mg but I’m conceding that I might need to maintain at a higher dose. It’s also frustrating as technically I could lose another 20lb (and might want to over time) to get to about bmi 22 but I’m not psychologically ready yet for that level of thinness and happy with how I am at present. I’m eating well below tdee which tells me that I can eat 1850 cals in maintenance but most days I’m just having 1400-1500 which makes the gain even more frustrating. Anyway just thought I’d vent my frustration to my fellow plodders who understand, thank you for listening ☺️

Welcome @GeraniumRoseblush 👋 come plod with us! 😊

tryingtobesogood · 02/08/2025 11:48

@Angie7654 well done on 50lb loss that is incredible. Could you be bouncing around a set point?

Angie7654 · 02/08/2025 11:56

@tryingtobesogood it is possible. I’ve been bobbing up and down around 152 for a few months now and my body keeps bringing me back to 152-153lbs. I liked my brief moment at 150 as thought it a nice round number but then would also have liked to be in the 140’s since I haven’t been there in over 15 years, but here i am back up again. I think the panic just sets in when it goes up by a few lbs but hopefully I’ll get it off again - it might take me another 3 months but hey, I’m in this for the long haul ☺️

PlodAlongPolly · 02/08/2025 12:05

Thanks for sharing @Angie7654 50 lbs in a year is a great overall loss but totally get your frustration. I think lots of us have to have less than our tdee to lose / not gain which is frustrating, and just doesn’t seem fair (when there are lots of people a healthy weight who eat over it yet don’t gain?! 🤷‍♀️) Yeah you may need a higher does to maintain, perhaps go up with your next pen and see how it goes?

I feel grateful for MJ in dulling the hunger though so not sensing the food deprivation as much and makes it easier to fill up on less. Doing it without MJ was a painful process of restrict-lose-fail-gain (despair and repeat! 🙈) as could only manage cal restriction for so long on will power and feeling miserable/ hungry.

OP posts:
Angie7654 · 02/08/2025 12:30

@PlodAlongPolly thank you. Yes I’m going to go back up again to see if that helps. I’ll be staying on MJ for as long as I can as it helps with inflammation and insulin resistance so I know I have plenty of time. It’s been amazing and I know that losing 50lb (25% of my body weight) has done wonders for my health. I never want to be without it. Good luck to you all. We will keep plodding on ☺️

Deadringer · 05/08/2025 13:53

I have been happy plodding along with a pound a week loss but this week i have stayed the same and I am definitely feeling a bit hungrier so I am going to move up to 7.5 next time. Not looking forward to the side effects coming back but I suppose it makes sense that if the annoying side effects are wearing then off the beneficial ones are too.

PlodAlongPolly · 06/08/2025 11:02

Yes I’ve had the same as you @Deadringer re the side effects wearing off and the benefits. My stall pattern is getting me down a bit as not had any losses for a while (just maintaining and the bobbing we chatted about further up).

I’m on 12.5 and getting a lot of nausea (been on the brink of throwing up so many times, my DC are confused why I kept retching! 🙈) so don’t want to take the dose higher as don’t think I could handle the nausea going any higher. It’s like pregnancy morning sickness but wanes towards the end of the week. I felt better on 7.5 & 10 but no real losses, more sickness on 12.5 but still no loss(!). I feel a bit stuck

On my second 12.5 pen with 3 doses left and have another 12.5 in the fridge ready to go. I’ve decided if I’m still not getting anywhere by the end of the pens I’m going to switch to another WLI. Ozempic I think is the other option.

I have a friend who got good results with Ozempic but not with MJ and beginning to wonder if I might be in the same boat and that it’s maybe worth trying a different med. Will complete the next 7 doses and see where I’m at.

That's a shame Polly, this stuff works like magic until suddenly it doesn't. Good luck

tryingtobesogood · 06/08/2025 12:32

I am getting tired of the bobbing up and down. I am trying to be all big picture about it, that this time next year I will be at my goal (most likely) and that I have managed to lose just a few ounces short of 30lbs which is amazing.

But is anyone else just a bit bored of it now? I hate not knowing if I am going to lose this week or not, even though I have done all the right things exercise and diet wise and drank my bloody water. I wish I had a magic wand and could wave it and all the fat melts away and I am at goal already. Or that things were more consistent. I also need to stay off threads where people lose 2lb a week and then say they are losing soooooo slooooowww. Sigh!

@PlodAlongPolly that sounds like a good plan. Maybe switching it up will help to restart your losses.

Deadringer · 06/08/2025 13:29

I am getting a bit cheesed off tbh. I was so excited about finally doing something about my weight, but it's boring as hell. Still i would never have done it without the mj, and I do feel better in myself with the weight I have lost, so I will keep plodding on.

Angie7654 · 06/08/2025 14:26

@PlodAlongPolly I’m tired of all the bobbing up and down too and this last month have put on 3lb and heading towards the 4th! Have lost nothing in last 3 months now, just bobbing up and down. I’m on 7.5mg but so close to goal that I’m loathe to move up but might have to if I am to shift the last 5lb. Even then I’ll will be around bmi25. I now feel it is impossible to expect anything lower but am grateful to be close.
That sounds like a good idea to try another wli. I might do that too if this keeps going but have 2 extra pens in fridge to use first

0ncemorewithfee1ing · 07/08/2025 07:24

@tryingtobesogood and all - yes, it is dispiriting. I’m almost 8 months in and have only lost 1st 7lbs total. I’m ploughing on, not least as it has a great effect on my blood sugar levels, but I’ve seen there’s something with even better results around the corner and will definitely be keen to try that.

And I know what you mean about it being depressing to see others losing a couple of pounds a month and being all sorry for themselves about it being so slow!

@PlodAlongPolly do let us know if you do switch and what effect that has.

@Angie7654 did you have a good rate of loss up until this last bit?

PinkSour · 07/08/2025 08:41

Another bobber here, nothing lost really since the end of May. I'm starting 15mg tomorrow, I should have moved up earlier I think. I'm coming up to a year on it next month and 34lb lost which feels good in theory but then when other people have done that in 3 months or whatever it's hard not to feel despondent.

PlodAlongPolly · 07/08/2025 11:41

Thanks everyone, it’s really helped to read your posts and feel less alone with this stuff 🩷 I’m really grateful for all of you and the comradery on here! I’m normally quite good at the glass half full thing, but have been feeling a bit fatigued and deflated lately. I think maybe because the combination of stagnant losses with side effects becoming more pronounced up the doses (nausea, runny tum episodes and tiredness). If I’m still here by the end of these two pens I will need to take a step back and look at other options I think.

Oncemore did you mean the retatrutide, the new ‘triple G’ med that Elli Lily are developing? It sounds promising and will be good to see what the outcome of the clinical studies will be. The only thing that concerned me was the reported issue with bone density and possible elevated risk of bone fractures and also something about kidneys.

GeraniumRoseblush · 07/08/2025 12:02

Yes, another one here bored of bobbing and the glacial speed of weightloss. Maybe our slow weightloss will mean that coming off the jabs won't result in a quick weight regain? Still I haven't been my current weight for at least 9 years so that's the positive I'm clinging too.

@0ncemorewithfee1ing do you test your blood sugar levels? And how? It's those unseen overall health benefits that I'm guilty of forgetting in my focus on the scale numbers. Same with the amount of visceral fat etc.

@PlodAlongPolly totally hear you re being deflated about the slow/stagnant losses combined with SEs. I've had to be so cautious about increasing doses as well.

Very interesing re the new med thats being developed.

Onwards plodders, we ARE getting there, just in our own snail-like way 😁

0ncemorewithfee1ing · 07/08/2025 14:31

@PlodAlongPolly i think so - I just registered that there was something on the horizon. Bone density is a worry - I guess you have to weigh up the benefits vs risks.

And I hear you re the runny tummy! I’m trying to understand what sets it off. Do you think it’s if I’ve eaten too much (relatively)? I do have some suppression but nowhere near what most people seem to have. And I’ve never experienced this cessation of food thought.

@GeraniumRoseblush I have a finger prick kit. You can buy them pretty cheaply. The only issue is that you won’t have a baseline to compare the impact of MJ on your blood sugars. But you can still see how you perform against the ‘good’ criteria.

Hello, this is my first dose in plodders 👋. Not sure why are I have definitely been plodding for a very long time! For the first 20 weeks I lost on average 1.56 lbs/week...then 20 weeks after that 0.45 lbs/wk...and the 20 weeks after that 0.45 lbs/wk again.

I've been on 15 mg for the last 5 weeks (I was undersuppressed I would say for a long time as I had issues moving up to 5 mg and as I result employed an overly cautious approach to doses).

I am 52, late perimenopause, and not particiculalry active, so I knew that I wasn't going to lose fast. I'm ok with that but if I am honest I don't think I am putting in enough effort. As I go into the next 20 week block (takes me to Christmas/new year) I really want to change that. I'm not expecting anything wild like 1 lb/wk average (!) but I know I could up the walking and eat better (use MFP to track) make more of an effort with meal prep...I've just got super lazy with it. Sometimes I think I would be better off having a few meal replacements.

AlmostStopped · 09/08/2025 10:26

Forgot to add my graph. Randomly went up 1 kg this week (well last few days), which hasn't helped morale!
