Plodders Club 🐌

Hi,

Anyone on WLI and in the slow lane v. welcome here for a bit of plodding supportive chat!

Plodders, bobbers, plateau-ers, stallers and stuck ducks come on in! Would be great to chat with others who are in the same boat, ie travelling at the speed of snails on their WL journey.

I have a mountain to move (nearly 5 st), am not ready to give up on Mounjaro yet and would love a bit of company here on this long haul to reach a healthy BMI. 🦥 🐌 🏔️

Come join me if you have a long way to go (either due to slow losses or amount to lose) and would like some peer support to keep going when the scales are being stubborn. It’s hard being on WLI when it’s not working as well for you and progress is slow or stalled. This is a safe space to share anything, the good, the bad and the side effecty. Anything positive (scale or non scale related) as well as freedom to vent and grumble as much as you want

If you taking WLI and trucking along nicely or nearly at your goal weight that is fantastic but please post on a different thread.

That’s excellent news. It’s left me
feeling very optimistic about using WLI long term.

Do you / anyone ,think it's true that weight loss stops if you don't eat a certain amount..
If that was true , people wouldn't end up anorexic though
I've had a few people telling me I'm not loosing weight because I'm not eating enough
I've been trying to look this up ,but I keep getting conflicting advice I can't make head or tail of
Especially as I'm literally in the house 22 hours a day ,due to abnormal situation with kids

Doggymummar · 24/04/2025 11:56

I agree with your thinking. People often say you'll send your body into starvation mode and things like this, but if that's the case how do people end up anorexic, or people in hospital or comas not waste away to nothing? I think our bodies are complcated. I lost weight on 3000 calories Keto diet years ago and on Fast 800 so who knows.

Timmygnome · 24/04/2025 16:58

I saw a post on media today saying that exercise doesn't effect weight loss ,it's all about what you eat ,and all these people eating so much food and still loosing weight..I just can't get my head round it .
I am hungry all the time ,my stomach rumbles every night in bed .
But that's how it's for me trying to loose weight
The mj ,just stops the food noise and cravings,it doesn't stop hunger ,I don't know if it does for anyone else .
I'm taking mj ,to hopefully avoid WLS at Christmas,if I can loose 5 stone by then ,they won't do it ..and I'm terrified of surgery..but the mj weight loss is really slow even though I'm on 12 mg

Orangesandlemons77 · 24/04/2025 17:09

I also get the hunger pains at night. Sometimes I eat something like a banana which is filling, or take some glucommanon capsules which is like a diet aid- soluble fibre. This helps a bit.

Timmygnome · 24/04/2025 19:02

Good for potassium bananas

Just checking in to share that I lost a grand total of 2lbs in April. Sticking with it and hoping for a better May.

Letshavetea1 · 25/04/2025 09:52

Hello to all, I’ve posted on the slow losers thread before. Thought it may be worth me giving an update to my (slow) progress on here.
I started October 1st 2024 with the following stats:
height 5 foot 6
weight 12 stone 9.5
BMI - 28.6
hypothyroid and on medication (Levothyroxine and sertraline)

Current stats:
weight 11 stone 8 (total loss 1 stone 1.5 lbs)
BMI - 26.1
Goal weight - 10 stone 7 lbs
Mounjaro dose 7.5 mg (have iterated up very slowly to this)
Average weekly loss according to the app Monitor your weight - 0.52 lb

I started this journey having been able to lose at most 1/2 to 3/4 stone and then putting it all back on repeatedly. Have a wardrobe of 12 - 16 plus clothes. Felt fat and demoralised and pretty unfit with joint pain.

I have mumsnet and these weight loss injection blogs to thank for giving me the confidence to start MJ. I spent ages reading through threads from the beginning of people’s journeys on here. I started with the view that it may take at least a year to lose the weight due to my hypothyroidism etc and previous slow weight loss. I decided to monitor my weight on an app and look at the trends over time. It’s a good job I did because sometimes I can have a plateau. I don’t track calories but I do follow Tim Spector’s Zoe podcasts - an invaluable source of evidence based advice on nutrition.

I’ve gone up the doses slowly as I’ve had side effects of nausea, constipation and acid reflux. I find drinking lots of water and eating fruit, veg and protein has helped. I’ve reduced portion sizes massively and find I can’t tolerate carby/fatty foods. MJ has been fabulous for this. I’ve dropped some previous dieting bad habits like low fat products and calorie counting (I know this works for others but I tend to obsess!). It works for me and I’m trying to internalise the changes so this is sustainable in the long term. I’m thinking I’ll stay on MJ for maintenance (when I get there) as it seems to suit me. I feel so much better. The biggest issue now is that I know I’ve probably got another six months to go and I don’t want to buy a lot of interim clothes but a lot of my clothes are so baggy! I have bought a pair of size 14 jeans to keep me going but they are now loose!

StrikeForever · 25/04/2025 11:48

@Letshavetea1 slow and steady is best so they say. I have to be careful not to put myself into that obsessing space too. It’s so bad for us. Today is my injection and weighing day and the number has gone up 0.6kg since yesterday (I don’t weigh daily, but popped on yesterday). I know I can’t have gained that in fat. I’m going to go off yesterday’s number 🙄

Letshavetea1 · 25/04/2025 14:05

@StrikeForever thank you. Yes, I’m now really comfortable with the slow rate of loss. I can vary by up to a kg from one day to the next. So I look at how I’ve done over a month even though I weigh daily and plot my weight weekly. Using a weight tracking app on this journey has been really helpful for me to see that even though I go up as well as down or stay the same - the overall trend over time is down!

tryingtobesogood · 25/04/2025 22:14

I have decided to step back from calorie counting and the scales. It was becoming obsessive. I am going to try weighing every couple of weeks instead of daily 🤦‍♀️

Doggymummar · 26/04/2025 08:59

I moved my weigh day to Saturdays, as consistently that was my lowest day of the week. I have lost 4lb this month, which is the best month for six months, so pretty pleased with that. It all adds up and I'm now down 5 stone 6.8 pounds. I wanted to lose 100 pounds initially so off to calculate what that is.

Doggymummar · 26/04/2025 09:00

77.6 pounds, so still a bit to go. I reckon another 8 months I should get there. Then to re calculate the final target , I guess.

StrikeForever · 26/04/2025 11:56

I’m thinking measuring might be better than weighing. What do you all think about this?

My husband is going to take the batteries out of the scales and I am going to move to measuring as I find I get really disheartened if I don't lose consistently. However I can see that i am changing shape so think measuring may be better for my overalll wellbeing

I understand, I feel like I’m losing more than the scales are showing 🤷‍♀️

Timmygnome · 26/04/2025 12:10

I weighed today
Yet again another week my weight stayed the same .
I've so much more to loose ,it's so frustrating

Deadringer · 26/04/2025 12:22

I am half a stone down, at last, but since moving up to 5mg last Tuesday i have had two nights of dreadful indigestion and stomach pains, so bad I thought I was having a heart attack at one stage! Both times I had eaten beef so looks like that is off the menu.

tryingtobesogood · 26/04/2025 12:24

@StrikeForever i am going to use a ribbon to measure my waist, each week I will mark any progress. I agree I look like I’ve lost more than the scales say.

I've found my people! I started Mounjaro at the start of February with 2 worl friends. They've both had lots of side effects (bad stomachs, the runs etc) and the weight has fallen off them. They're both visibly slimmer and look great.

I'm 21lbs down which I'm pleased with but i can't help but compare myself to them!

I've been lucky with side effects and I'm hoping that a slow plod will help me to keep it off.

That's an average of about 1.75lb per week which is excellent and very healthy. Well done. I genuinely think that anything more than that is too much too quickly, and don't forget that very rapid weight loss carries a risk of gallstone / gallbladder issues.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 26/04/2025 19:33

I started in early September at 106kg. By the end of November I was 94kg and my goal was 90kg by Christmas. Here I am in late April at 90.3kg. I'm past feeling like a failure, and am just pleased that MJ is stopping me gaining and that even if it takes another two or three years to lose the other 20-25kg I need to lose then so be it. I'm disabled and have many health conditions and food intolerances working against me.

Timmygnome · 27/04/2025 05:22

I've not had side effects really..a bit of hair loss for a while ,(a dicky tummy ,that could actually of been a 24 hour bug) ,and I was a bit cold at first ..
I'm on 12 mg and I've had many weeks where my weight stays the same
So I wonder if lack of bad side effects
Combined with slow loosing, means it's not that effective for me.
Has anyone switched to ozempic to see if that works better for them
But I suppose you would have to start at the lowest dose again , people won't want to do that
I tried mysimba tablets first ,and they were horrendous side effects wise
