Hi,

Anyone on WLI and in the slow lane v. welcome here for a bit of plodding supportive chat!

Plodders, bobbers, plateau-ers, stallers and stuck ducks come on in! Would be great to chat with others who are in the same boat, ie travelling at the speed of snails on their WL journey.

I have a mountain to move (nearly 5 st), am not ready to give up on Mounjaro yet and would love a bit of company here on this long haul to reach a healthy BMI. 🦥 🐌 🏔️

Come join me if you have a long way to go (either due to slow losses or amount to lose) and would like some peer support to keep going when the scales are being stubborn. It’s hard being on WLI when it’s not working as well for you and progress is slow or stalled. This is a safe space to share anything, the good, the bad and the side effecty. Anything positive (scale or non scale related) as well as freedom to vent and grumble as much as you want

If you taking WLI and trucking along nicely or nearly at your goal weight that is fantastic but please post on a different thread.

What is the difference between Mounjaro and Wegovy? Is one better than the other or more expensive? People seem to prefer Mounjaro.

Timmygnome · 27/04/2025 05:39

Ozempic came before monjroro, but I read somewhere it's now only used for diabetes..but that might just be in America,I don't know .
At some point people definitely got a choice of the two when starting WLI.
But I don't remember my provider offering me a choice

Mounjaro works in two ways and Wegovy in one. It mimics two different hormones rather than one. Mounjaro is statistically more effective with higher average weight losses. The price difference isn’t that much and most pharmacies offer either. Wegovy has been around longer so there is more known about side effects etc. Wegovy and Ozempic are the same drug but Ozempic is licenced for diabetes and Wegovy for weight loss and Wegovy has higher doses available than Ozempic.

BackToWegovy · 27/04/2025 06:15

Has anyone switched to ozempic to see if that works better for them

I have been back and forth due to side effects. Both similar in terms of slow weight losses for me. The break you need to stake and restarting at the lowest dose did set me back each time.

I’m still sauntering along, 20 weeks now. Steady weight loss, still around 1 lb per week on average. Though am slightly annoyed to see that reversed this last few days; amazing what a couple of rich meals can do (even small ones). I guess there’s a reason why dieters eat more salads etc….

Ah, the tyranny of the scales. Mine are now going to be hidden where I can’t easily get them. Measuring scales are just meant to be for information purposes, sometimes giving helpful feedback; they’re not a design for living or aim in and of themselves. My true goal is about moving towards looking and feeling better and healthier.

So, I shall be weighing-in less (perhaps once a fortnight, maybe less even) and focusing on other health aspects and things.

I hope everyone is keeping the motivation. Mine waned a bit this week. I think that may be because I’ve been too focused on it (especially scales) ironically. Watching a watched kettle can get a boring, so lightening and opening up I’m hoping will help …

DarlingCoffee · 27/04/2025 12:47

I started in August last year and have lost just 1 stone 1lb! Better than nothing or worse being heavier but I’m starting to question if it’s worth the money. I’ve just started on the 15mg dose of MJ so hoping that might kick start what has been a very slow weight loss journey! :( I definitely have seen better results from MJ as at the start I was on Wegovy and the weight loss from that was practically non existent! Sigh…

Im considering coming off it in the summer but then I’m worried about putting it back on again!

I've found my people! I started Mounjaro at the start of February with 2 worl friends. They've both had lots of side effects (bad stomachs, the runs etc) and the weight has fallen off them. They're both visibly slimmer and look great.

I'm 21lbs down which I'm pleased with but i can't help but compare myself to them!

I've been lucky with side effects and I'm hoping that a slow plod will help me to keep it off.

That's not plodding, I've not lost that much since September, that's a rapid loss to me, almost 2 stone since Feb is excellent

StrikeForever · 27/04/2025 13:03

@Timmygnome Mounjaro should always be more effective than the others. It is duel action. It curbs appetite like the others, with GLP-1, but also effects a second hormone GIP, which is linked to metabolic benefits, slowing down of digestion and regulating blood sugar.

Thanks ,I think the having to start at 2 mg again would put me of swapping, even if there was a choice .

tryingtobesogood · 29/04/2025 07:36

I’m trying not to be disappointed with the rate of my loss, but I am!!!

I have switched to looking at my monthly loss rather than daily/weekly which was not good for me. I have lost 5.3kgs in 2 months. I know that slow and steady is good but I would really like a bit more speed than this. I feel like I eat very well, drink almost no alcohol, do not snack and my portions are small. I feel very frustrated.

I am away this weekend, so am expecting the scales will not budge or maybe go up. I had hoped they would have gone down more beforehand to give me some wiggle room. But no.

When I get back I am going to reset my eating, go back to basics, watch my portion sizes more, do more exercise and move up to 7.5mg. I was reluctant but I think it will be time.

FFS, why is this so hard. MJ was supposed to take all this stress away.

StrikeForever · 29/04/2025 10:46

@tryingtobesogood don’t be disappointed. That is a great loss. It’s just short of 12lbs, not far off a stone. We’ve all been on diets over the years. Think back, when have you ever lost nearly a stone in two months?

I agree about weighing monthly though. My weight loss is slow and on some days, some of it reappears 😳

tryingtobesogood · 29/04/2025 11:33

@StrikeForever yes you are the voice of reason, and a year ago I would have given anything to have lost this much weight. I just need to focus on the long long term, and that this time next year I will be in a completely different place. It took the best part of 5 years to get to this size, I can't expect to lose it in just a few months. Thank you for talking me down.

And yes, what is this going up and down thing? Why can't it just lose it and be done 😂

ChristmasLightsLover · 05/05/2025 18:27

Hello. I’ve been awol for a while. How’s everyone doing?

I’m still plodding on. Weight loss happens and then slows again. I’m more focused on being active than anything else.

I still have a fair bit of weight to lose. Do I want to aim for a BMI number and if so, what number? Or is it a dress size? And which one?

I’m also thinking about starting some kind of calorie tracking. But do not fancy WW or SW. but maybe I need that structure? What plans do other people have?

I'm aiming for a BMI under 30 having been obese my entire adult life. Currently 40 (down from 46) so still got a long old way to go.
I swear by Nutracheck for calorie counting.

1clavdivs · 06/05/2025 21:51

Not doing so well here. Been stuck on a plateau for two months now. Still got a stone till I get to goal but 8 weeks at the same weight is so disheartening. My average for the whole journey must be under 1lb per week by now.

ChristmasLightsLover · 06/05/2025 22:13

Thank you @PinkSour- will look that up!

@1clavdivsI am sorry to hear that you are plateauing. It’s really hard mentally. Are you able to do nice things whilst you’re waiting for your body to figure this out?

tryingtobesogood · 07/05/2025 08:43

Hello Plodders

@1clavdivs sorry to hear you are stuck, I hope you have a whoosh moment and things start to move again soon. I can't imagine how frustrating that must be.

@ChristmasLightsLover I am following second nature - they recommend the healty plate approach, where you have 1/4 protein, 1/4 carbs and 1/2 plate of vegetables for each meal. It's very easy. They also use your hands to work out your portion size, so carbs is the size of your closed fist, protein the palm of your hand and veggies is two handfuls. I was using WW but I don't want to do that long term.

I took a week off from the injections last week as I had a big anniversary to celebrate. We went away, ate out lots, drank wine and cocktails (I've been off alcohol for the whole time on MJ). I got on the scales this morning and I stayed the same, I am soooo pleased with that. I am due to jab today, going for one more 5mg then moving up to 7.5mg next week. I would like to shift a bit more before I go away again in June. I would be happy with any loss, but i would be good to get into more of the clothes in my wardrobe.

Redlightbulb · 07/05/2025 20:30

Do any of you worry about having nowhere to go after 15mg & still having a lot to lose given the slow weight loss?

I just started 12.5mg (was on 10 for 4 months).
Have lost 4 stone in 39 weeks & have 4-5 to go still.
Not quite a 'plodder' overall but definitely have been recently (last 3 months about 7lb lost)

I should have moved up earlier on really but wanted to stretch out the doses.

Suppression / fullness has improved since moving up but it is still not marvellous.
Not like it was when I was on the 5 & 7.5 doses.
I can't see myself doing 12.5 longer than 2 months & then it will be the 15 with probably 3-4 stone to go still.

Appreciate that they are a lot of people slower than me. So apologies if offending anyone. Just given how much I had to lose I would have liked to have lost a wee bit more.
Guess I am to blame in part as really didn't want to calorie count (I am sensible with what I eat - no takeaways / limiting junk etc) but I should really do the whole tdee thing.
I work from home so am really sedentary.
My daily step count must be very low.

Doggymummar · 08/05/2025 08:07

I've been on 15mg since Christmas still losing a couple of pounds a month so it's working for me. If I stopped losing I would be looking to decrease calories and increase exercise, so no. I don't worry there's nowhere to go. Some suppliers suggest reducing the time between jabs to say. 5 days but that's not something I have needed to do.

Deadringer · 08/05/2025 10:56

I am losing about a pound a week which is excruciating, especially since it's costing me 50 quid a week! (In Ireland and ordering from mybmi). Ah well only amother 3 stone (42 weeks ) to go.

Yes it sucks as this medication is so expensive.
Would be very happy with an ongoing 1.5 lb a week loss until I get to about a stone to goal and then I would embrace the crawl.
Just need to accept that my body doesn't work that way.
I am confident I will get there in the end but it is wearing at times.

Letshavetea1 · 08/05/2025 16:57

@Redlightbulb and @Deadringer - it’s a pain, but try an average of half a pound a week!! That’s what I’m on. Still, as of today I have lost another half pound bringing me to 1 stone 3 lb loss. 13 and a half pounds to go to goal. It’ll take me to November apparently! I feel okay with it though as at least I’m losing.

Exactly, I can't ever remember a time when I consistently lost weight every week like on MJ. Christmas Easter, Birthdays Holidays all losing weight. I could gain 10lb over Christmas or on a two week holiday prior.

tryingtobesogood · 10/05/2025 10:14

I have list 1/2 lb this week. Getting back into a routine of eating well, planning meals, upping the protein and veggies etc

5 weeks to my next holiday and am hoping I will shift a few kgs before then.

Doggymummar · 10/05/2025 11:42

.4 of a pound this week, 173.8 today. I think that's the slowest week, but OH had 4 takeaways this week so was pinching chips
