Welcome to thread 8 to MN weight loss friends old and new!
Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we Spring forward into a new season...and consider new swimwear and Summer Wardrobes ❤️

I’m on W17 D3 and on my fourth 5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 6.4 lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look like a melted candle)
Total loss so far 32.6lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.
Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

The 3 stone mile stone seemed to take forever, about 3 weeks, with scale needle seemed permanently stuck between 13:2 and 13:05. Hopefully I have now broken the stall. In any previous diet I would have given up @PinkArt.

Another 16 pounds I will be overweight so hopefully May/June time

murraymcgill · 11/03/2025 13:21

I'm still Overweight 😬

Need to catch up on chat as AWOL for a week but get the klaxon out!

BMI was 40.9 now 33.1

Starting Weight 15 stone 12lbs /100.7kg

Current Weight 12 stone 12lbs / 81.6

Loss to date 3 stone / 19.1kg

So I seemed to stall for two weeks but now I have upped to 3.75 and drank more water it seems to be shifting again. So in 18 weeks I have lost 3 freakin’ stone! I would never have been able to do that with MJ, my next big goal is to see an 11 at the front of the scales.

🥳 congratulations!

Have a not at all jealous klaxon/ woop/ cheer from me, @Pumpkinforever! I'm two pounds away from the three stone milestone but it feels like I've been nearly there forever.

Edited

Keep going! I’m 7lbs away from the 3 stone marker. I’d never have got this near without MJ.

Good morningLovely friends in my phone!

Just had a telephone consultation with my GP following my blood test results from last week and my cholesterol is at 5.1 which is unusual for me. Last time I think it was 3.2? He said that they are noticing people on MJ or similar are experiencing raised cholesterol levels so I need to keep an eye on it. He has sent me some information which I will read later. Not quite sure what I can do on the basis that I am meeting a pretty much clean diet with very few processed foods, but I will have a look - just sharing the information in case anybody on here has a predisposition to high cholesterol levels as it might be something you want to get checked. Reassuringly, everything else is normal including iron levels (he said your iron levels are better than mine!) And most importantly thyroid levels as I know this is a concern of women who are all MJ.

How strange that your cholesterol's gone up! High cholesterol is one of the aggravating factors that allows MJ to be prescribed to those with BMI <30 which, alongside high blood pressure, enabled me to have it. I wonder if they'll change that if a trend is confirmed that MJ pushes it up.......

I know, right? I’ve looked at the advice and I’m following all of it. Healthy diet containing plenty of fruit, veg, nuts and oily fish, weight loss (obvs!), several consecutive alcohol free days per week, exercise for at least 2.5hrs per week, I don’t eat much cheese per week nor cakes and biscuits and I don’t eat anything with palm oil in it. Butter I use sparingly to cook with.

He did say this was an issue with diabetic patients on the same meds as us that they had noticed so I guess it is a side effect not necessarily well known. I have to repeat the test next year and it is only slightly over the norm, but I’d be pissed off if I lose weight and end up needing a statin - because I lost weight partly to lower my stroke risk and avoid ending up on statins!

That's odd, isn't it? I've just googled and there seems to be some research saying the opposite (not explicitly referenced on this website but I think they mean the pubmed study):

"Clinical studies exploring tirzepatide’s impact on lipid profiles are still ongoing. However, early results suggest some promising outcomes regarding lipid management. In trials involving patients with type 2 diabetes who were treated with Mounjaro, there were observed reductions in triglycerides and LDL cholesterol levels.

These findings indicate that while Mounjaro was not specifically designed to target cholesterol management, it may have beneficial side effects that contribute to better lipid profiles in patients who also struggle with high cholesterol."

Thanks @Pumpkinforever and @Mounjaropen. It's a funny one because on any other diet I'd be beside myself with joy at nearly three stone lost in four months. Mounjaro makes anything feel possible though so it becomes 'only' nearly three stone!
Marathon not a sprint, marathon not a sprint....

MounjNewb · 11/03/2025 15:08

I agree @Mounjaropen - most definitely don't want to end up on a statin. Narrowly avoided being put on one a couple of years ago because GP was adding a second BP med and didn't want to 'overload' me. My ideal situation is staying on MJ, no statin and dropping one of my BP meds.....

Need to get a blood test I guess.

Mounjaropen · 11/03/2025 15:10

itsnotagameshow · 11/03/2025 14:24

Maybe this one. HDL goes up ('good' cholesterol) while LDL goes down: Effect of tirzepatide on blood pressure and lipids: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials - PubMed but an overall reduction in cholesterol levels.

Thank you for this.

Ok - panic over....so I just looked up my results on the NHS app and compared them to the ones I received when I took part in the national volunteer 'Our future health' survey in Nov 2023. The 3.1 I recalled was the 'bad' Cholesterol...Phew. Looking at my app, there was no lipid recordings so I don't think the doctor had anything to compare it against aside from me saying I think that is higher. He didn't have the OFH data so couldn't see that It turns out it has dropped....

Weight was 92.5kg (204lbs!) vs 158.6lbs now - even allowing for clothing I was waaay heavier than I thought I ever was. I am 45lbs lighter now...!

Pulse was 102 vs 66 just now
Waist was 99cm vs 89cm last month
Cholesterol was 6.59 vs 5.1 now (overall NHS target is <5)
HDL (the good one) was 1.86 now 1.7 (overall NHS target is HDL>1)
LDL (the bad one) was 3.10 now 2.99 (NHS calculations now different)
Triglycerides (fatty substance similar to bad cholesterol) was 3.35 now 1.01 (target is 0.6 - 2.3)

BP is slightly up today but I have had more than one full fat coffee.

So overall I HAVE not ruined my health at all and I can stop being flummoxed 😂

Well definitely check your old measurements. I think if I keep this up I should be below 5.0 in 3 months or so. No statin required I hope!

Amazing changes in your results @Mounjaropen what reason did you give to your GP for asking for a blood test? I assume there was no kickback from it? My BP was low ish and I'm tired. I'm wondering if that would be enough cause to request bloods.

Thank you. I am 53 and frankly have never really taken the time to check my health properly. Everyone else's I have ensured was dealt with (kids, DH, Parents etc) but at the expense of going to the Dr myself. I took part in the OFH survey because deep down I knew I needed to see in black and white that I needed to do something. I'm glad I did because I wouldn't have had a reference point and the NHS app is only really as good as the data it contains (and my GP surgery is one of the better ones at using it) so I did't have the results to hand from my 50 year old MOT check. I guess there was a bit of health paranoia from taking MJ (thyroid in particular) plus I had the dizziness last week which turned out to be benign proximal vertigo and unrelated but as I hadn't had a full bloods screen for over 2 years the GP was happy to order one.

I've seen/consulted with 2 different GP's at my surgery in the past 2 weeks for different health matters both of whom I have told I am on MJ and neither has 'told me off'. The GP today was interested in how much I had lost and answered questions about when I should stop taking MJ and how (he suggested I just stop when I am at goal weight and continue doing what I have been doing exercise and diet) even though he hasn't prescribed it.

So I think If you haven't had a blood screen for a while and are of a certain age/have other health factors, just ask! I feel much happier today, particularly looking back at my previous stats! 💪

Cantbesure · 11/03/2025 16:52

I wish I'd done the health trial now. I have bloods from about 4 years ago when I first asked for HRT but it didn't test cholesterol. I am in my 50s so would probably benefit from having bloods done.

SW 13st 12lb

GW 11st?
Im 55 F 5’2 so still ‘obese’ not as much as I was so I will take that!
thanks for all the comments and general solidarity- keep on keeping on

Mylittlepea · 11/03/2025 18:45

Checking in, sorry life/work has been v busy.
Good to read everyone’s updates. @Mounjaropen sounds like your cholesterol is great after you worked it all out 😁
mine has been sat at about 6.5 for years and after 4 months on Wegovy - now tested at 5.1 which is good for me. I wonder if giving up the booze for a few months helped this too.

my weight is fairly static since the 🏃🏼‍♀️ 💩🩲🚽 incidents of the other week. Had a busy girls weekend away - made the decision to keep away from the alcohol which was fine but did indulge in some rich food and the trots came back Sunday night with a vengeance so didn’t jab, have delayed a few days until I can get my eating back on track…..

SerenePeer · 11/03/2025 19:28

Ooh catching up on everyone's news! How exciting some of you skinny bitches are almost at goal - that's brilliant!

And good to learn that the expensive death jabs are actually good for cholesterol 😂 Top results @Mounjaropen

I'm in London this week for work, so enjoying overpriced but utterly delicious salad bowls (wanky London salads my mate calls them 😆)

I didn't lose any weight last week but I'm not too worried. I was a complete Debbie downer last week and barely moved my butt off my chair during office hours, so no surprise really. I was starting to worry suppression had worn off completely but I went up to 7.5mg yesterday and couldn't finish said wanky salad tonight!

Cantbesure · 11/03/2025 20:29

Is anyone having a purge of bigger clothes? I'm feeling the urge to get rid of them all!!

DarkForces · 11/03/2025 20:43

@Cantbesure i haven't got rid of them yet. I'm still wearing them, although my pjs are almost falling off. Think it'll be a while before I'm ready to be parted from them!
